I recently went to visit this salon looking for a new look. I decided to change my color ( i went for a light blonde) & I got a cute shabby cut w/ bangs. I was so happy with the whole look. I had Karen do my color (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!!! She came recommended by my friend & is seriously talented) & Veronica do my cut. I can't say enough how happy I am with the whole process, this is a great salon.

What can i say? I ve been coming to him since 2006 and I have not been able to get away from him. He is an amazing hair dresser, and really pays attention to everything you tell him. How you want your hair and how you dont want your hair, he would listen, and wont disappoint you. You will feel like you've gotta a good hair cut . Ever since i ve been coming to him, i'm so satisfied that i see him every few months.. :)

I have been seeing Peter regularly for blond highlights the past 3 years. He is very passionate about color! The results are natural and always in line with the look we discuss before he gets started. He takes his work seriously, while simultaneously keeping me laughing and entertained for the 2+ hours I am in his chair. I love him to pieces and highly recommend him.

I have also been seeing Mauricio for more than 2 years for cuts. I have never been so happy with my cuts - ever! He is very talented, and even manages to give my fine limp locks great body and style. On top of that, he is a complete sweetheart.

Maria took plenty of time with me & knew what I needed for my super curly but fine & frizzy hair ... not only the right color but also best conditioning/styling tips (and I thought I'd heard them all...). I was delighted with the experience.

It is rare that a day goes by that people don't stop me and ask about my color! I have the pleasure of working on my various shades of red with Christopher Gamper for the last 11 years! People always take notice to the different, unique shades of red and always ask where I get it done! Christopher is a exceptional colorist!

My stylist is Stanley, who knows his ways around a head of curls! He is very honest about his opinion of what needs to be done to enhance the curls and texture of your hair! Stanley is the best and you can count on styly that will last a very long time!

Besides Christopher and Stanley, the whole crew in the salon are always friendly and fun! I have continued with them because of the warm, wonderful service! Do yourself a favor and make an appointment!

Peter has been coloring my brown hair for the last few years. He has done amazing work and people are noticing. Friends and family consistently comment on the color of my hair -- most think it is natural but I have slipped a few times as I want to spread the word. I also get my hair cut by Mauricio who is a master hair cutter!
Love the results, love the salon.

I had been getting haircuts at Ouidad for years, but I was very tired of the experience there. The cut had become a little stale and I just didn't feel like they were hearing me when I asked for something different. When I met a woman on a flight who had a cut that I liked, she directed me to Christopher Stanley.
Well...what a change! First, I got a great curly hair cut from Mauricio. My hair is now super bouncy, filled with life, and I get a ton of compliments. I went in two weeks later to get my color done by Peter, and that was just a lovely experience. He listened to what I wanted, took his time giving me a beautiful, multi-tonal color, which actually serves to complement my haircut. I feel great and I honestly can't wait to go back.

I went to Mauricio a few times for haircuts. I was pleased with the first haircuts I got but the last one was a doozy. Mauricio clearly had no idea who I was and had no recollection of me. This is fine. He is busy and he probably has a huge panel of clients BUT at one point he tried to sell me a hair straightening product even though I have stick straight hair. Not knowing me is fine, not paying attention is not okay. In addition, the haircut was bad - choppy, difficult to maintain and not really me.

I've been to many high end NYC and Central Jersey salons. Peter does the best color blonde. My hair is very long and he is sooo patient. Everyone at the salon is very nice and extremely friendly; it's not your typical salon. I highly recommend this salon and Peter for Blondes to anyone.......

Peter gave me exactly what I wanted! Natural looking blonde hair that doesn't grow in too harshly. He is an artist, blending different colors to make certain strands pop and to give your hair a glossy, healthy feeling. The people there are all very friendly and natural... it's actually FUN to go there! Peter listenes to you before he does anything because he wants to understand exaclty what you want before he gives that to you! Fabulous!

It is really hard to find a salon that I can trust to cut my curly hair. After a number of butchered haircuts in NYC, I was referred to the Christopher Stanley Salon and got my hair cut by Carrie...it was amazing!!! She really listened to what I wanted out of the haircut, and then made that vision come to life. This is my first style that curls very well, and also looks great when I straighten it- I will DEFINITELY be going back!!

I have been going to this salon for over 5 years. i have never once had a bad experience-- not with cut, color, atmosphere or attitude.

I have curly (color processed) hair. Always wanted straight hair. About 1 year ago i had heard about this new "Brazilian" straightening treatment. I asked at the salon, rather than taking my money they told me they would not be doing the treatment until they were absolutely sure it was safe. Within that year, the formula for the treatment was perfected and used fewer harsh chemicals.

As soon as they started the treatments, they called me because they remembered I had mentioned it.

That's not just good customer service, it's great customer CARE. . . . and now straight, shiny amazing hair. This is my second time doing the treatment. Mauricio has done it both times-- I can't recommend him enough.

Pros: They will not let you "chop your hair off" or give you bangs, if it doesn't suit you. They will, of course, but you'll regret it. They won't say "I told you so," either.

This salon is wonderful! the staff is incredibly welcoming and the salon is super cute. the best thing about this salon for me is my colorist Shane Thomas. I trust him completely with my hair and he always does an incredibly job. He was my colorist in SF and then he left me for NYC i never found a better colorist so when i moved to NYC i tracked him down like a PI, and so should you, Hes the best. Also, the lemonade they serve is to die for and the hair shampoos are divine. you should definetly go to this salon, yes sir,

After disastrous results with many different salons in Washington D.C., a friend I was visiting in New York made an appointment for me at Christopher Stanley with Peter for color and Maricio for the cut. Finally - people who know what they are doing! Peter colored my hair beautifully - he fixed all of the previous botched jobs and gave me hair in the color I wanted that - in the words of my friend - "looks like it actually grew out of my head."

Mauricio gave me a great cut that is growing out very well (as is the color). I can't say enough great things about either one of them. They are not only excellent at what they do, but are wonderful people as well. The salon on general is fun and friendly while obviously professional. Great atmosphere and very friendly receptionists.

My only complaints are that 1.) the prices at this salon are very high for this Manhatten neophyte and 2.) they aren't in D.C.! They are worth the trip though. I'll be back up in NYC in March, and Peter and Mauricio will be one of my first stops!

Pros: Just about everything, from the beautiful work to the wonderful people

i went here wanting to go lighter without going too drastic and maria knew exactly what i wanted. she colored my hair the exact golden caramel shade i was looking for. on top of that she was extremely nice and down to earth and she really LISTENED to what i was telling her. great experience, wouldn't go anywhere else..

The Christopher Stanley Salon environment is extremely welcoming and pleasant, contrary to the experience I've had at many other salons in New York. Mauricio was on time, worked efficiently, and cut my hair EXACTLY the way I wanted him to. I recently moved out of NYC to attend graduate school in New Hampshire, and I still travel back to the city for the sole purpose of getting my hair cut at Christopher Stanley. In summary, I would not go anywhere else!

I relocated here from Chicago in May of 2005 and had a difficult time finding the perfect salon with the right people until I found Peter Ripley and Mauricio Cifuentes at the Christopher Stanley Salon. From the moment I entered the Salon I was impressed by the warm reception and the relaxed (ultra clean) environment. I have been to the Salon 4 times now for a haircut and color and have never been kept waiting, not even for a minute! When I arrived at the salon for my initial visit my hair was damaged and in desperate need of attention. I have straight, fine hair and unless cut properly results in a nightmare for me attempting to style it myself. Mauricio did a superb job of layering my hair and cutting it in a way that allows me to style it with ease. In the last few months my hair has grown longer than I've ever worn it and is healthier over all. Peter Ripley is masterful at achieving just the right warmth and color. He has helped me to gradually go from way to unnaturally blond to a more flattering brunette (my natural color). My hair is healthier and shinier than it's ever been, thanks to Peter Riply and Maurico Cifiuentes. Not only at they extremely talented and professional, they are down to earth and full of personality! I would recommend the two of them and this Salon to everyone!

I've been to soooo many salons in NYC - once. Maybe twice. Finally I found a long-term relationship with a hair salon. Peter is a fantastic colorist and Stanley cuts my hair and styles it in a way that I can actually keep-up. And both of them were so great with giving me tips and advice about how to maintain the cut and the healthiest hair possible.

Melissa did a great job with my hair!!! She has a terrific sense of color-- she just looked at my hair for a bit and found the perfect color for highlights that made me look beautiful and natural. I usually have a horrible time finding hair stylists and colorists because I have curly (also unfortunately frizzy) hair, and I find that most hair stylists don't seem to be able to grasp how to style and color hair that isn't stick straight. However, Melissa knew exactly how the curl and share of my hair cut would work with the color and found a perfect shade for highlights. I have continued to get compliments on the job even a few weeks later! Seriously, I have had horrible hair experiences and after going to the salon and getting my color by Melissa, I LOVE my hair!!! So awesome-- will definitely go back in the future!

....And suddenly that name, will never be the same to me! I've been searching the city for years for the perfect colorist. The couple times I actually found a good one, they moved to another state. But now I found Maria and am so happy I did. She is so sweet and talented. She gave me exactly what i wanted, better than anyone I've seen in the past. I look forward to going to the salon now because I know I'm going to walk out looking more beautiful than I could have pictured myself! If you are looking for the perfect colorist too...you need to try Maria and your search will be over!

Mauricio has been styling my hair for almost a year and my hair looks better than ever..I luv it !!! My haircut is awesome..everywhere I go I get so many compliments and women wanting the style. My haircolor is rich and divine, it suites me perfectly. Mauricio is a good friend of mine and I have to say is an amazing artist.. my very own " Edward Scissor Hands "!!! Okay, so I'm really picky about my hair, and I just moved to New York. The last thing I needed after a major life change was hair issues. Yes, it IS that important! Citysearch reviews indicated Christopher Stanley Salon was a good choice, so I made an appointment and kept my fingers crossed.

Peter is hair color Nirvana, and masterfully matched my colored and highlighted hair, and has made it even more gorgeous since coming to see him over this last year. He listens to you, understands what you want, and delivers. No worries about a color nightmare with Peter in your corner.

Mauricio's precision cuts allow for a longer grow-out time because they are so perfect. He makes suggestions, yet listens and takes your wishes into account. You can rest assured you will end up with a simply fabulous cut. And -- you can get your bangs trimmed for free!

Everyone at Christopher Stanley is friendly and helpful. They are always ready to take me right at my appointment time. I'm SO glad I came to Christopher Stanley.

If you have frizzy dry hair or big hair with too much body ? this is for you!! ? I had Mauricio give me the treatment last week and my hair is completely smooth and so soft?.I highly recommend this for anyone who is under the hair dryer trying to smooth out your hair and make it manageable. The only drawback is waiting the 4 days after you get the treatment to wash your hair ? you can?t get it wet at all. (Read the weather forecast!!)- Be prepared, your hair will be so straight ? it gets some time to get use to ? but you will be very very happy..

Truth be told, I never feel compelled to write reviews for anyone or anything. But I have felt so good about my hair and in return, myself lately that I just had to rave about my colorist. Peter Ripley at the Christopher Stanley Salon really is a wonder. I?ve seen him three times now and in that short amount of time I have grown to love the man and love his work even more. I have never had such healthy, beautiful highlights that grow out so well? ever. He makes me natural blond without making it look fake and had make my hair shinny and bouncy which is not the way I came to him. He always explains how he does it but really I couldn?t tell you ? he?s the genius and the artist. I am so glad I found Peter through a friend so trust what people say about him and this salon. I was in dire need of corrective color...after years of highlighting i was looking worse for wear and went in hoping to get some sort of "natural" color back. Christopher listened to me and gave me a realistic answer and said that my natural color would take numerous sessions to get back (because of years of damage) but would do his best to get it as close as possible. after an hour and a half he towel-dried it and the color was amazing! after getting a blow-out you could really see how close he got to the natural shade. i walked out feeling amazing and cannot wait to go back for another session!

I went in looking like an aging rock star and came out looking dreamy. I had six hours of color correction and and a hair cut so I saw the whole day go down at the salon. It's not just that the staff is super talented, they are genuinely interested in their work. Peter Ripley, my colorist, seemed to get more and more energy as the day went on. He's fantastic. They consult with each other and work as a team...never felt so taken care of at a busy salon. I had been looking for a great salon for a year and am relieved to say that I've found my new home. I highly recommend Peter and this salon.

Everyone always says the same thing? ?I?ve been looking for years to find the right person to do my hair!?? and I?ve always disappointed. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I can honestly and happily say that ?I?VE FINALLY FOUND MY PERFECT HAIR GUY!? I want to shout it from the rooftops and take out an ad in the New York Times. PETER RIPLEY is the best colorist in all of New York City. I had to wait and see if he was great after 3 appointments ? ya know, sometimes they?re just good the first time and then slack off? not Peter. He consistently made my hair amazing 3 visits it a row. If you?ve been to a salon in this city, you know that is a feat in itself. My last colorist made my hair 3 different colors each visit ? and that?s not what I was looking for. Peter made my hair look healthy and shinny AND the correct color. I?ve already sent 3 of my friends to him and they are happy too. Peter is wonderful, and I look forward to years of beautiful hair!!!

I have very long (below the waist) hair of moderately curly hair which used to be strawberry blonde when I was younger, but has faded to a duller golden blonde. No matter how many times I tell colourists that I have red undertones, I end up with highlights that make me look like a orange tabby cat-- and am shorter in tresses several inches more than I requested!

But not so at Christopher Stanley. Shane and Billy listened to what I had to say, looked at my hair in the sunlight, and colour and trimmed it beautifully. I have never been happier with my highlights nor have I had a trim hold it's shape for this long. (It was done in April and I shall be going back shortly for a freshener.) I cannot recommend this place enough!

Fear no more....I was referred to the salon by a friend because I was in a hair funk. Wanted something different. And what about color? How can you change who does your color? Well I took the leap and have not looked back. Stanley was great. He gave me a consultation and told me what he had in mind and just a year later I just let him do whatever he wants -- I totally trust him. And, as for color that is great too - a time or two and we got a better shade than what I had. And, did I mention they are always on time? And Stanley is very funny.

I fell into Peter's lap by accident 3 years ago. The owner, Christopher, was out sick and Stanley, the other owner, told me that if I wanted the most beautiful color he would put me with Chris' protege. Stanley was SO confident in Peter's skill and talent that day that I said "yes". Not only does my hair still look wonderful and healthy after all these years - I also feel part of this little family that is called Christopher Stanley Salon. From the front desk as I walk in until the time I walk out I feel like a welcomed friend. Trust me, these people are talented, honest, funny, and real.... oh yeah, and did I say talented? Thank you, Peter and Stanley.

I must tell the truth that Peter has given me the most amazing and natural color I have ever had. He's funny, he's intelligent, he so talented, and he makes me feel welcome and comfortable every time I come to the salon. But again... the best part of it all is that Peter makes my hair look AMAZING and NATURAL. He brought me from mousy light brown to fabulous beautiful blond in one session and over the year gives me slight changes that make me feel fresh and updated. Great salon. Relaxed environment. I have hair coloring done here and I have been very pleased with the results. The person who does the my color is very conscientious. She brings out color samples and makes sure that she has the appropriate one that matches my hair. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this salon to anyone.

This is a very laidback downtown salon. Everyone is a serious pro, with no attitude. I have worked with assistants, and gotten great results. There is a really friendly vibe, and the stylists all help each other. I'm growing my hair out, and I had been doing my own roots. Stanley, who does magic with curly hair, gave me the right strategy for getting through the summer. Melissa gave an extra special touch correcting my hair color, and bringing the color back to a "normal" level.
I returned a month later and Melissa worked magic bringing my color slightly lighter, without shocking my hair. My hair is now almost its natural color (minus the gray!)...and soft.
In the chair, I've seen them do just about anything, and everything. Great recommendations for cuts, color, and products. Highly recommended.

I?ve seen quite a few of colorists on my quest for Mr./Ms. Right (Hair Colorist.) Each one left his or her mark on my hair and some were unremarkably satisfactory. But in the end, their color creations were really a product of their vision, not mine. (I have brown hair and wanted ?blonde? highlights, and for some reason my highlights would always come out more in the ?red? family). Then along came Peter, and he finally gave me exactly what I never got with the other colorists . Using his expertise he mixed the perfect shade!!!
Unlike others in the profession that my hair has come into contact with, Peter listens and gives his advice so the result is better than anticipated! Without committing any foolish-color mistakes, he is able to see the color not only in your skin tone, but the color in your life.
I?ve looked and researched (and I admit that I am pretty obsessive when it comes to researching) and am so lucky and happy that I found Peter Ripley at the Christopher Stanley Salon (this salon is also the best - it has the ?nicest? people and is welcoming ! )
I can recommend Peter without reservation (though you?ll need a reservation to see him ! )

The only reason I don't want to write a review is that I'm afraid if I share the secret I'll never get an appointment again! Ther Apprentice Stylist/Colorist program is a phenomenal deal. You get an absolutely professional job at a fraction of the cost. I used Shane and now Melissa for color (blond, single-process) and they are both terrific. Miguel at the desk is a dream and both Christopher and Stanley couln't be nicer. There are only certain days you can book but the savings make it worth it. I come all the way from the UWS.

I had all but given up on my hair when I tried Mauricio at Christopher Stanley Salon. I have very difficult hair it is thin but coarse so it never dries and gets frizzy. I have to wear it long but then it doesnt maintain a style. The most i was ever able to do with it was make it long and straight, which kinda dragged me down and also made it look like I didnt do my hair. But Mauricio must have magical scissors because after his cut my hair looked like i had always dreamed it would look it was smooth and wavy with long layers. When I got home and restyled it myself I was even more suprised to see I was totally able to maintain the style.

Getting a good colorist is really hard to do. Finding one and sticking with the person is not an easy task. I tried CS after reading about it online somewhere. And i never went to another salon again! I always use an apprentice and my experience has been nothing but professional and absolutely perfect coloring. In fact, the colorists in training are better then regular staffers at most other salons. If you want to save some money, book an appointment with the apprentice and don't be nervous about it.

I started going to Christopher Stanley shortly after I moved to NYC three years ago. I saw a girl with the most beautiful hair color and asked her where she went, and she said Christopher Stanley. Since then, I have never been disappointed. Christopher listens closely to you, and then takes time to figure out what would be most complementary to your skin tone. I always leave with gorgeous shiny hair. I have tried other places, but no more. This is the best color in town. And Shane is an expert at styling your hair.

For 20 years I have driven 2 hours to Manhattan to get my hair done a few times a year at the best of NY's hair salons. It is my favorite and only vice. I found the Christopher Stanley salon on Citysearch and I am so happy that I did. Mauricio studied the picture that I brought with me and we went for it. My hair went from chin length to short. Not old lady short, chic short, cool short. After my haircut I knew that I needed a color update. Peter gave me a free consultation and I booked for the next week. My hair color was dated and unnatural. Peter gave me a beautiful rich brunette color. I look 10 years younger, really. Strangers have stopped me on the street (a guy at home depot today) and said that they love my hair. And my husband is absolutely crazy about it. Looks like I'll be going to Manhattan more often, to see Mauricio and Peter. The 20 year search is over.

I've been a client of Shane all the way back in his San Francisco days and was lucky enough to catch up with him after we moved to NY. Shane has a skill that goes beyond his young years. He is the only stylist that I've had that was able to tell me what would look good on me. If I brought him a photo cut out from a magazine he would tell me the truth, he never would tell me something would look great just to appease me. That being said, every suggestion for a cut or color he's given me has been spot on. I get compliments often and have referred many to see him. I have very thick hair and am going more gray than I would prefer, but he thins my hair to just the right point, gives me a structured hair cut and colors the hell out of my gray. It's been almost 6 weeks and not one gray hair is rearing it's ugly head. I have never had another stylist pull this off and that's why I'll follow Shane to wherever else he may move; creepy, I know, but he's that good.

Hair Colorist Extraordinaire, Peter Ripley, has been doing my hair for 2 years now and I can tell you that no one has ever done it better. Forget the years of questioning if my hair looked good ? I KNOW it looks good because I get compliments on a regular basis. He never boars me ? he give me what he calls ?seasonal changes? where a little something different makes me feel like I get something new every 4 to 6 months. Never anything drastic - just a little brightness here or a touch of deepness there. I first came to him when someone had talked me into dying my hair a solid dark color and I cried for a week ? until a friend gave me the number to Christopher Stanley salon and it changed my life. Peter immediately put me to ease telling me we could get the job done together. He didn?t lie to me ? he told me the possibilities and parameters ? all of which Peter met. He and Mauricio, who cuts my hair beautifully, made my hair healthy within 6 months and I couldn?t imagine going anywhere else. Miguel makes my day when he calls to remind me of my appointment and Billy, Peter?s apt assistant, makes me feel welcomed the whole time I am there.

I started going to this salon a few years ago, and left once only to come back and vow never to leave again. I recommend all my friend and family to go here and my mother comes up from VT to get her hair done here. Peter is a highlight guru and Mauricio is the only person I will go to for a hair cut. The one time I left I ended up in his chair shortly after to have my haircut fixed and that is what Mauricio did and I will never go anywhere else.

If you are looking for a great haircut/color or anything I recommend this salon, you will never find a better place in NYC and you will not find a place that you will walk out more pleased with how you look.

In my quest to find the perfect NY salon to give me the perfect NY hair cut, I was lucky enough to find Christopher Stanley after a co worker suggested I go. The hospitality and customer service I received has not be matched. Miguel works at the the front desk and is SO welcoming to every guest that enters through their doors . The staff is not only incredibly talented, but also incredibly kind. While the haircuts are somewhat expensive, they are worth every penny! Mauricio has become my "go to" for all hair emergencies. I have even recommended him to all of my closest friends and now to everyone on the web ;-) Christopher Stanley is the greatest deal in NYC-hands down!

I entered the salon was greeted and sat for all of 5 minutes when Marcus appeared and ushered me back to get me ready for Peter. I want to preface this by saying I have a ton of hair and its long, so most stylists usually take a look and you can hear the internal monologue of.."ugh, I am going to be here forever". Not the case with Peter, and if he thought it he showed no signs of anything other than sheer delight to get to work and correct my many shades orange, gold, russet and brown. He painted my hair like a canvas with 5 different shades being worked in to create a palette that was found in nature as opposed to the one that had been created from several too many times of switching between brown and blone and a number of shades in between. The hair is a work in progress- which Peter made very clear, however after a week the color has blended beautifully and there isn't a sign of orange to be found. Peter is a love with an extraordinary eye for color and was able to balance the outrageous number of colors in my hair. He will be my colorist till I either go bald or go natural- and neither of those are happening anytime soon!

I live in London and do business in NY. I needed a trim when I was here in November, and was referred to Mark. I will never go to anyone else! I had been having my locks managed by top stylists overseas for years, I was always happy. Since I have found Mark I'm ecstatic when I look in the mirror! Now I plan my trips in accordance with my maintenance schedule. Definitely worth the travel time and expense.
