i just got home from the salon. all i can say OM to the G-stunning. Peter is a genious with color- I came with high hopes after another salon messed up my hair completely, and Peter worked magic on me its crazy but I told him what i wanted and he did exctly that and more. Mauricio cut my hair beautifully!! - and I have not cut my hair in a salon in over 7 yrs :) I must say after doing my own hair for the past several years I'm putting down the scissors and paint. Plus the atmosphere is awesome, everyone is super nice - can't wait to go back. I once again have long blonde BeauTfull hair! thanks a bunch.

I have been a loyal customer of The Christopher Stanley Salon for over 2 years. I am usually one that likes to always try new things, but i always tell everyone one who asks me about my color or my cut/style, i am MARRIED to Peter Jon Ripley, and Mauricio Ciufuentes. Peter has been keeping me in my signature platinum blonde hair color successfully for 2 years. No yellow, no damage, but simply beautiful, elegant and healthy. He is meticulous, and takes his time to be sure everything is done right, and is not afraid to try different methods to improve his work. I get nothing but hundred of compliments everywhere i go, even trade shows for hair! Mauricio has alway kept me in beautiful edgy layers cuts. He truly works with who you are and what suits your head, but always listening to what your ideas are and works with you to achieve your best look and your satisfaction. This is assuredly a dynamic team, and you could not walk away with out loving yourself completely after appointments with these two.

Here's my journey to the most amazing colorist and all arond wonderful guy, Peter Ripley... I went on line looking for the BEST colorist in New York City... I went Uptown to see this person... they messed up my hair - a month before my sisters wedding where I was the Maid of Honor... I know, what was I thinking... I didn't want to make another mistake, so I came here to City Search and read all these reviews about Christopher Stanley Salon and this great colorist, Peter.... so I called up to talk to him first... the manager, Miguel (another nice guy) gets busy Peter on the phone for me... he SHOULD have hung up on me the way I was ranting... but he didn't!!! He was sweet, helpful, inquisitive and set up a consoltation the next day so we could meet and see what was up with my hair... what a doll... he had a cancellation and took me right away... I could not have felt more comfortable from the time he took my hand... he's honest, he's funny, he's had an amazing life and best of all for me - HE'S TALENTED. As Amara finishes me up with a gorgeous blow-out (Peter's knowledgable assistant) I see what everyone here was talking about... I actually cried in the dressing room when I saw my BEAUTIFUL color transformation... I would have paid double for what he did fo me... I shouldn't say I looked better than my sister at her own wedding... but.... If you want to look and feel your best... make an appointment with Peter Ripley... you won't regret it.... he'll make you feel like a million buck... I went to Julie for a hair cut and had a great experience. She took the time to discuss my hair with me and was constructive without being pushy. She was also willing to answer my questions about when the right time to start dying my hair to cover the grey is (even though I was just in for a cut) and gave her professional opinion without trying to sell any services (and in fact said i could probably hold off coloring it for a while). The salon itself is hip without being pretentious--cool, "industrial" ceilings and an energetic vibe. I've been to more expensive places in the city and find Christopher Stanley to be higher quality and more comfortable.

I have been going here for a little over a year and have always had great service! The staff is friendly, professional and knowledgable - I feel confident in taking their advice about better hair management. Although the prices may be a bit high - it is definitely worth it!

The first time I went for a single process, my colorist didn't show up, so one of the owners worked on me. Boy was he annoying. He wouldn't shut up about himself and barely listened to what I wanted. Needless to say he gave me awful muddy dark brown hair. To his credit he spent FOREVER trying to fix it and wrote a lot of notes for the next time. I figured that they must at least know what NOT to do at this point, so I decided to go back. Big mistake. They screwed everything up just as badly the second time. They did feel bad and offered to clear an appt. for me to come back the next day for a fix. I don't think the third time is a charm for me.

Also, notice how ALL the reviewers have only reviewed this salon and nobody has a single bad thing to say? Something fishy here...

After trying so many salons and paying such high price for awefull highlights that turned by brown hair red, a friend recommended this salon and my experience was excellent. Peter knew exactly what I was looking for my color and fixed my highlights to look very natural and a very nice light brown color that I was looking for. Highly recommend this salon!

After being blown away by how wonderful my friend's hair looked, I had to make an appointment with Mauricio at Christopher Stanley. Well, I have have finally found a stylist who I can trust and knows not only how to cut my thick wavy hair but actually cut it with a style in mind. The experience at the salon was great--the feel was very down to earth while still being chic and modern. Mauricio listened to what I was looking to do with my hair and had great suggestions on the kind of cut that would work well for my hair type and face. I highly recommend you make your next appointment here!

It takes a lot for me to trust someone to color/cut my hair but after reading so many positive reviews about Christopher Stanley Salon, I had to check it out. I was taken in right away and Christopher was so patient in listening to what color I was looking for and what I was hoping to avoid. He explained different precesses and techniques tome and never once made me feel like I was being rushed.
I look forward to my appt to get a haircut with Stanley, who I've heard is a genius at cutting curly hair and making it wearable curly and straight.

Went in to see Maria after seeing all of the positive reviews on Citysearch and reading about the salon in Allure magazine's Beauty Directory. I am extremely picky and was upset over a past color job that left me completely unsatisfied with my hair. I didn't really know how to articulate what I wanted, but Maria seemed to read my mind and described in detail what she would do to fix my hair and bring it back to life. It's extremely obvious that she knows what she's talking about and she makes you feel instantly comfortable in her chair. I had consulted with several other colorists, but decided immediately that she would be the one I trusted to give me the beautiful blond highlights I'm looking for...I've booked an appointment for this weekend and can't wait to see the results!

Peter continues to impress me with color skill-he is an amazing, thoughtful artist and it comes across in his style, approach and personality. he has totally improved what was great color and recovered a botched job from someone else. i've learned my lesson to never stray again! Peter rules.

I was going to the same haircutter / colorist forever. Then a friend recommended the Christopher Stanley Salon for my color.Once I experienced my first consultation with Christopher,I realized one person can not do both. He is an expert in his field.Christopher makes you feel so comfortable when you spend time in his chair and I love the natural color he gives me.Also,his crew always makes you feel welcomed.

Let me start by saying that I used to color my own hair - or let friends color it for me. Bad idea. Then I went to Aveda for a few years and that was bad too. Peter was reccommended to be my a friend and thank God!!! he gave me amazing natural and sassy color. It's so great and healthly looking now. Now no one says to me "your hair looks like Madonna... in the bad way" True quote.
The salon itself if really relaxing and hip - it's just such a pleasant experience all around. I can not reccommend this place enough. I've gotten two haircuts here from different people, and they were both good (for curly hair - I was pleased) but my out and out love is Peter - the amazing colorist... the hair repair God! I feel like I get a makeover each time I go.
Also - they're not trying to get you to buy a ton of product or upsell you in any way - I felt like they are really trying to create a rapport with their customer base and it shows!
Color on!!!

Christopher is the best colorist in the whole wide world. People come over to me all the time and ask me who does your color. When I walk out of his salon, I feel like a movie star. The service is also excellent, which makes the whole experience enjoyable.

After fllirting with every salon in the neighborhood, I returned to and will permanently stay with Christopher Stanley. Mauricio gave me, by far, the best haircut ever for my curly hair--getting my hair right is no longer an "issue" in the morning! Peter took the time to discuss in detail how to make my color more natural and the best way to lighten a too-dark job done elsewhere. The shop is mellow and friendly, and they know what they're doing. This really is the best place in Chelsea/Flatiron!

Oh, my god...! My hair has never looked like this before I met Mauricio. He makes magic happen. From my crappy average outgrown hair he made me look like Sarah Chalke from "Scrubs." I tried many other different places before with average results. I thought that looking great is just a thing that happens on TV, but judging Mauricio's work; it is reality. My husband thinks so too; and the way I look now he doesn't mind to pay the extra buck. MILLION THANKS MAURICIO!!!!!

I must have lost my mind last week when I decided to dye my hair some bizarre shade of red. I had never really touched my hair before, and it was a disaster. I suppose if I wanted to move to Williamsburg and get my arms tattooed, it would have worked, but as a writer in Park Slope this would not stand. Plus, I resembled Ronald McDonald more than a little.

Peter (or is it St. Peter?) is down-to-earth and very skilled at his job. I got an appointment that morning and he and his assistant Amanda spent more than two hours fixing my grave mistake. My hair looks great & feels healthy. The Hamburglar would never recognize me now. While the prices are indeed high, they were willing to stay within my budget and it was worth every penny. You simply cannot put a price on confidence. Thank you!!!

I just got back from Chrstopher Stanley salon. For years, I have been putting up with my frizzy, Latina curly hair with brassy highlights. Peter fixed my color, gave me exactly the color that have been trying to get back for years, which is much like my natural now with highlights. Stanley cut my hair and it feels so healthy and full when it felt so weighed down before . The only downside is the price because I am not used to paying so much for hair but Ill be going back again.Thanks guys!

Let me just say that after going to all the "top salons" in New York City, I have found the TOP COLORIST in the whole state... Peter Ripley. I sat down with him and immediatly felt comfortable... he listened to me, asked questions that made sense, made me feel calm in a new environment, and ended up giving me the most beautiful, natural, amazing color that I have EVER had. I MEAN IT... friends tell me so and people (ok, women) have aksed me in elevators and in the middle of business meetings. I'm VERY happy to have found my new salon home!!! Then Peter sent me to Mauricio the next week for a cut... and every thing came together even more... they are a GREAT team and Christopher Stanely is a GREAT SALON. No attitude and a friendly staff.

Peter my colorist not only listened to my concerns, but fixed my color to make me look like a natural blonde! Mauricio performed my cut and I left looking like the cover of Vogue!!

Mark gave me the best cut I've ever had.

I've always shied away from bangs, since my hair is wavy, but he cut them in a way that was so easy for me to style on my own and the cut looked fabulous either blown out or let to dry naturally. He showed me how to blow-dry it so I felt confident enough that I'd be able to do it on my own.

I let him do what he wanted with the color and he gave me highlights in the front and dark blond on the back longer pieces. I received many compliments from my friends and the best part about the style is that it grew out nicely and I was able to make it look as good as it did when I walked out.

Pros: Down to earth staff, great haircut/color and instructions on how to do it all at home

There are many standout characteristics about Stanley, his haircuts, and the experience of having your hair cut by Stanley. There are 2 features that I rarely, if ever, hear someone say about their hairstylist that apply to him: Firstly, Stanley's haircuts grow in *beautifully.* I often receive comments from others that my new haircut looks great, even though I haven't seen Stanley in six weeks! I have never had haircuts that grew in so well, particularly given my hair's inconsistency (curly here, straight there...). Secondly, Stanley is so very personal and down-to-earth. I cherish his haircuts and my time with him while in his chair so much that he has cut my hair for the past 9 or 10 years, including the 5 years during which I lived in Nashville, Tennessee!! On rare occasions in the last decade I had to visit another stylist, and wow could I tell the difference in the cut. I think the personal attention that Stanley gives his customers, combined with his expertise, creates an experience that can't be duplicated.

I will never forget the day...I had just left Christopher Stanley Salon after a fantasic cut and color by Mark, I took a taxi to Mid-Town and walked to a restaurant where I was meeting a friend at....Well...I never received so much attention in my entire life! I tell you I felt like a model! Men and women everywhere were looking at me and complimenting me on my hair, telling me how it was so stunning and becoming of me. Mark is fantastic, actually everyone in the salon is, he really listened to what I wanted, he used his expertise to examine my face, coloring, etc., and gave me his expert recommendations. And they were right on! I travel from another state to see Mark and I will ALWAYS travel to get my hair done there. They are truly experts!! Someone just told me today how amazing my hair is! I love Christopher Stanley Salon and I highly recommend them. I always searched for 'the' salon that would be the expert and 'tell' me what would work with my face, skin type, etc., and nothing ever worked. My search was over years ago when I found the Christopher Stanley Salon!

Okay, I was always one of those girls who never went back to the same salon twice. I guess I was just never that impressed by the service or quality of the cut and color I got UNITL I FOUND CHRISTOPHER STANLEY!!! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Suddenly I've become someone who swears by their salon. I just wouldn't go anywhere else. Maria does the most amazing highlights. So natural, and listens to exactly what it is that I'm looking for. I go to Noelle for my cuts, and she is also fantastic. Christopher Stanley is great because it offers that spa feeling, a mini retreat, without the snobbery you can get at other salons around the city. The pricing is competitive with other salons, but the service is far superior. Over all a great deal. I don't mind spending good money on something that is consistently amazing! I almost hate to rate this place and let other people in my little secret... the most amazing hair salon in all of NYC.

About two months ago, I decided it was time for a new look. I'd heard some great things about Christopher Stanley Salon, so I figured I'd give it a try. From start to finish, the experience was fabulous! The salon itself has a very sleek, modern feel. The staff was very professional and friendly, taking the time to make sure they created the look I wanted. Maria gave me the most beautiful honey and golden-blonde highlights. I'd been to other salons in the city and paid big bucks to get only a brassy look, with which I was dissatisfied. In contrast, Maria was able to give me the exact color I wanted. In terms of the cut, Mauricio gave me an excellent, updated style. He showed great attention to detail and made sure the cut looked perfect. Later that day, I met up with some friends, who wanted to know where I'd received such an amazing color and cut. Overall, I highly recommend Christopher Stanley as a quality salon delivering both satisfaction and quality to their clients.

I have been using C.S. for nine months and didn't make it there one month. It was one huge mistake. Everyone noticed that my color was not what it has been as well as my haircut. A friend recommended a place near where I lived and said they do the same thing as C.S. would. I tried it. I was so wrong!!! When I went back to Mark he fixed me up without even saying anything to make me feel terrible. He was great!! Everyone noticed the difference at once and said, glad to see you went back to the right place!!! I will not miss another appointment~~~

I went in to Christopher Stanley salon with a less than stellar color job from a salon that shall remain nameless. Peter was given the task of correcting my color to make sure it looked like I wanted - this was no easy feat. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Christopher Stanley Salon!

In addition to being an extraordinary stylist, Stanley is one of the warmest, kindest, funniest people that I know. His joyful spirit extends to all of the staff in the salon. Stanley has been cutting my hair for the past 12 years (I followed him and Christopher from their previous location) and I am always delighted with the results...I walk out looking great and I look even better weeks later! I am always impressed with the amount of time that he spends with each client in caring for, and developing, a look that is individual and unique.

I have recommended the Christopher Stanley Salon to all of my friends and we all feel the same way. It's always a wonderful experience!

Last spring I decided I was tired of my so called ?experimental teenage hairstyle?, I guess one could call it, a section of bleach blonde beneath my dirty blonde hair, and my mom agreed. My mom decided that it was only right to get my hair done by the best at Christopher Stanley. She, just as well could have taken me to any other hair salon, we do live in New York City with a salon every few blocks, but she wanted to show me what a real hair coloring experience was like. When leaving the salon last year, I never thought that one?s hair could be as vibrant and natural as mine was. Now, with my prom coming up, my mom is treating me with the best in hair coloring, Christopher.

I was on a lunch break and spotted a girl walking down the street with what i can only describe as the most beautiful hair i had ever seen. I literally stopped her and asked her who cuts her hair and she said Mauricio at Christopher Stanley. The very next day i made an appt. I was nervous; I have extremely curly hair that i stopped relaxing two years ago after decades of relaxing and i had yet to find a stylist who knew what to do with it. I had an unimpressive experience at Deva so i was a bit worried - until i started speaking with Mauricio. He is knowledgable,supportive and AMAZINGLY TALENTED. He gave me the best haircut i have EVER had. I have never written a review for anything but I just have to let the world know what an amazing stylist this guy is. My hair looks great whether i wear it curly or straight. I truly love it. I have found the holy grail of salons.

Two years ago another curly headed friend recommended Stanley and I'll never go anywhere again. After years of suffering from triangle head, choppy layering, and always having to have the exact same haircut because I thought my hair couldn't handle anything else, I now have a great cut that takes almost no work and have even been able to vary the style. My mom liked my cut so much that she switched from a very high end place in midtown and goes to Stanley as well.

This salon is top notch. The staff is very professional, friendly (they remember your name) and operate in a relaxed fun environment. It is easy to book appointments and they are always on schedule so you never have to wait. I have my hair colored by Christopher, who is not only very talented, but also personable and unpretentious. I've been going to Christopher for about a year and I still get compliments on my hair color. I wouldn't trust anyone else.

I have been going to Christopher Stanley for nearly 2 years and recommend it to anyone who asks me for a salon. Christopher does my color and Stanley my cut. I have two colors of highlights and a base color to cover gray, so it's not an easy task and I have been to some salons that have really messed things up. Christopher always does an amazing job. As for the cut, I have curly hair and arrived with what Stanley called Cleopatra hair. I absolutely love my cut as well as the advice he has given me to make my hair healthier (you really don't need to wash your hair everyday!!).

I've been going to this salon for almost three years. It was recommended to me by a friend who said she didn't trust her hair to anyone else. She was right.

The Best Hair Salon Ever

I went to the Clairol well one too many times and ended up with bright orange hair. I mean, it was so bad, I was literally wearing a hat everywhere I went!! I came across this salon in Citysearch and, out of desperation, gave them a try. It was the best decision I could have made. Peter, my colorist, corrected my mistake AND gave me the color I was looking for all along. He LISTENED to what I was saying about what I didn't like about my color and what I really wanted and he was able to translate that into a beautiful, natural looking color. He didn't even make me feel bad about the weird color I came up with on my own. If you are unhappy with your hair color, call this salon and ask for Peter Jon Ripley. You will not be sorry.

Everyone there was friendly and attentive. I got my hair cut by Mauricio. It's the best haircut I've ever had because it looks great and is so easy to take care of. My hair falls just right after taking a shower and drying my hair for about 5 minutes. He was incredibly attentive and really listened to what I wanted and how much time I spent on my hair. I got my hair colored by Peter which was by far the best color I've ever had because it looks natural and lasted for nearly 3 months. He also attentively listened to what I wanted. Both Mauricio and Peter were personable and fun to talk to making the experience a very pleasant one. I highly highly recommend this hair salon, especially Mauricio and Peter!

Sadly so many of us walk around with hair we don't absolutely love. This was true for me UNTIL I sat in Mauricio's chair. I had no idea what I was missing! I had struggled for years with my dried-out, unruly curly hair but Mauricio changed all that. His fabulous cuts make me look and feel younger and more fabulous! The change has been amazing ? people literally stop me on the street, the subway, the supermarket, or pretty much wherever I am to comment on my incredible curls. AND not only has he worked wonders on my hair, but my straight-haired friends that I've sent to him have been thrilled by his cuts as well.

Mauricio is a treasure ? skilled, creative, and attentive. He takes his time during the consultation to really understand you and the look you want. He's also not scissor-happy which allows me to sit in his chair with complete trust and just let him work his magic. And not only is he an incredible talent, but he's also a sweetheart and sooo down to earth. I love the Christopher Stanley Salon for having a stylist of this caliber on their staff!!!

I went in feeling drab and I came out feeling really bright and pretty-and very natural. I loved the vibe in the salon; zero attitude, quite the contrary. Christopher is really down to earth and chose the right shade for my color, and added some much needed shine as well. Julie's haircut changed the shape of my exisiting haircut to be much more flattering, and she was sparing with the sciscors, thankfully. I will be back for sure!

Pros: expert coloist and stylists in a relaxed, appealing atmosphere
