I searched the city to find a really skilled hairstylist. I could tell you nightmares about some of the top salons. My first appoint with Stanley was a breath of fresh air. He not only truely listened to my desires but he gave his honest opinion about what would look best and what my hair type would actually do. He is Great! I recommend him to all my friends!!

Ok so I am one of those people who highlights their hair but is so afraid of any dramatic changes. I booked an appt after the many wonderful reviews & was absolutely scared to death! I went for the consultation. That went well, Maria seemed genuine and very attentive to what I wanted. Then I finally went for my appt., two hours flew by. I was so scared that I talked her ear off & she very politely listened. Anyway I love my hair color (I brought a pic w/me & she was so exact its crazy). She is very sweet, genuine and just knows what exactly she is doing. I am definitely making my next appt soon!

I moved to the city and was looking for a stylist, I read the reviews about Johnny and decided to try him....THE MAN IS AMAZING!!! I had my last cut in January... my hair still looks amazing... I can't wait to go back again... he is a true artisit, I can't say enough things great things about him... he worth every penny.

Highly recommend this team to anyone (with disposable income). Stylish, confident and extremely talented staff. Paul and Johnny are both able to work magic on anybody/everybody (Paul for color, Johnny for cuts). Customers don't have a particular 'look', which makes me even more confident in the staff. They are also fairly accommodating and friendly on the phone/with scheduling, which is an added bonus!

Nothing is more agonizing than trying a new hair salon. But that did not happen at Christopher Stanley at all. Julie did the color and was absolutely terrific-she did the most natural highlights, even 2 months later I don't have to leave it in a ponytail until I squeeze an appointment in at the salon! My hair was cut by Noelle and she didn't cut off 2 inches more than I asked which seems to always happen to me and it has never looked so good with so little effort. I was so pleased with the quality of both the cut and highlight, but most impressed with how the stylists listened to what you wanted. The fact that my appointment started on time and that products were not pushed is just an added bonus.

I recently had a haircut by Stanley and he did an amazing job. This is a high end salon without the attitude. My appointment started on time and I can't say enough positive things about Stanley. He is extremely talented and it was a pleasure sitting in his chair. He patiently listed to what kind of cut I wanted and explained what would look good and what wouldn't. I received many compliments the next day and I plan on going back for highlights.

I have been going to Christopher for 8 years. The work done here is better than anywhere else. It is so natural looking every time. People compliment me daily on my beautiful hair color and many are even surpirsed to hear i color it. Everyone here is so fun and friendly. Only the best of the best.

When it comes to hair I am the type of person who is NEVER satisfied. When I went to see Paul for the first time I didn't know what I wanted. I must have given him ten different colors and wanted them all mixed into one. He kindly listened to my every word....patiently might I add. He made me feel comfortable and I trusted him right off the bat. He worked his magic and BAM! he created the color and highlights I wanted but could not verbalize. He explains every thing in detail so you don't feel as if you are in the dark. He is highly recommended if you are not happy with your current situation he can quick fix you in no time.

All I have to say is Mark is amazing! He cut and colored my hair perfectly to my personality. Best of all I didn't have to explain to him what I wanted he just knew. I am extremely picky about my hair and have never worked with any stylist i met in NYC, until now. The salon staff is very sweet and they were accomodating to my schedule. Go see Mark!

My last color was 5 years ago at a reputable salon where the colorist didn't listen to my loud and clear request for subtle highlights. Since this has been my typical experience with colorists, I resorted to do it myself kits or just let the color go, tired of not getting what I wanted. Deciding to give it one more try, I spent considerable time searching online for a salon in which customers said that their colorist LISTENED to them, which is how I found CSS. I can't recommend Maria B enough. She is the only colorist I've ever been to who GENUINELY LISTENED and gave me WHAT I WANTED not what the colorist felt like doing!!! I'm so thrilled to have found her. And the guy who did my blow-out afterwards was just as good. For once I actually felt GOOD when I walked out.

I waited two weeks for the appointment but it was soo worth it. I just had my hair colored and highlighted with Paul Cucinello. The color he did is gorgeous!! I was afraid that since he is famous and comes so highly recommended that he was going to be a snob. He was super nice and I'm completely ecstatic over my hair. The salon is OK but the experience was great because of Paul. New York Magazine was right, he is the best colorist of New York. No attitude just great color and conversation.

Stanley was great. He took time to sit with me BEFORE I had my hair washed (which I think is SO important) and we discussed what would look best for my hair type and face shape. It makes a big difference...he knew just what to do and the cut looks great.
I also had a consultation with Maria for highlights. She took the cut, my skin tone and my personality into consideration and explained to me what she planned on doing in our next appointment. I'm confident she'll do a wonderful job. (I'll let you know...I have my color appointment today!)

I visited Christopher Stanley salon 3 months ago and had my hair cut by Noelle. It was by far and away the best haircut I have ever had. I have tough hair, it's very thick, wavy unevenly. She made this cut last 3 months and I never had so many compliments in my life. I am going to make my next appointment very soon.

I've tried many different hair stylists but my haircut from Julie has always been the best. She listens to what I want and she knows how to cut my hair so that it looks great even when I don't style it. even as it grows out, it still looks good or even better!

I always used to hate my color. I like a nice rich brown but when i'd leave other salons, it's always too brassy or blah. Paul has totally changed that for me. Now I love getting my hair done. I get stopped on the street CONSTANTLY and I always send people straight to Paul. He knows what you want and how to make it happen. TRUST ME!!!!

I was having a bad hair year so a friend referred me to Mark while he was working in Washington DC. I needed a hair overhaul after a string of bad experiences with a number of salons in NYC. Mark gave me a new cut and highlights that changed my life. Beyond just a great cut and highlight, he showed me how to style it perfectly and offered me great tips to manage the cut as it grew back in. Lucky for me, he recently moved to NYC and he's now working at Christopher Stanley. It's rare to find talent like Mark's. He's fun, a great listener and he's equally amazing with scissors as he is with foils and color. If you need an image overhaul like I did or just a simple tidying up, definitely ask for Mark at Christopher Stanley.

I love Christopher Stanley Salon! Maria B. is the best colorist ever, and is great with my super long curly "ethnic" hair. All the staff is very friendly, and know you by name, including the owners. Each of them bring their own authentic flavor to the salon.

I have gone to the best salons in the city and always getting OK but not great haircuts. That is until I met Noelle. She is hip, friendly, and talented to boot. I highly recommend her. She managed to give me a great cut while keeping the length intact. Five stars all the way!!

Go to Paul for color! My hair looks so much better than i expected. I heard about the infamous "Paul C." from my friend who has hair we all GUSH over. She suggested I see a Pro to fix my blah color and get myself pampered before my wedding. Paul was so nice and intellegent. He instantly knew what i wanted and how to achieve it. I was looking for something close to what i had as a teenager and that's what i got...but better! It was soft and shiny and had lots of highlights. I am thrilled with my hair and recommend him VERY highly.

I read about the salon here on Citysearch, but it wasn't until I happened to get Johnny for a cut that realized what a great place it is. Johnny appears totally unpretentious, unlike the puffed up "stylists" who are in love with themselves uptown. But he is so talented at cuts... that since a trip to Paris 30 years ago I never have had such a great cut for my face. And he very calmly explained what he thought would be best for me. 7 weeks later the gut is still gorgeous and I can blow it out myself!

After my first haircut in New York (from a chain salon) eight years ago, I was in my office restroom on the brink of tears when a co-worker told me she had a good doctor. I made an appointment with Stanley, he fixed my terrible cut, and I haven't seen anyone else since. Stanley is a perfectionist, and his cuts allow me to leave the house with wet hair, and to extend the time between cuts when needed, because they grow out so well. When I decided to get highlights, I made an appointment with Christopher, and was amazed by how natural and seamless the color was. Friends even said, "this is what your natural color Should be." His color is as thorough and meticulous as Stanley's cuts, and together they've created a wonderful salon to visit. I feel lucky to know them both.

A few months ago I got the best cut I'd had in years from Stanley.

Stanley takes the time to notice who you are and how you look best. He gives an organic cut that suits the way your curly hair moves and gives great tips on hair care.

To save time I then got a few trims from my neighborhood place down the street, but I'm heading back downtown to Stanley because my curls don't like being disrespected by cookie-cutters anymore.

Great salon - very friendly staff and highly talented stylists. Julie is wonderful - has given me some fantastic haircuts and is always spot-on with color. Mauricio does the most phenomenal blow-dry. I highly recommend them both and the salon overall - I will definitely keep going back for more!

The staff was extremely friendly and customer service oriented. Johnny Boy is an exceptionally talented hair stylist, who I followed to this salon. Upon Johnny Boy's recommendation, I anxiously scheduled a color/highlight appointment with Maria Barreto (and I am not great with change). Maria's skills as a colorist are second to none, and she has "hooked" me as a regular client. I will continue to frequent the salon and will recommend it to all of my friends and colleagues.

After reading some of the great reviews, I scheduled a haircut with Stanley. I was very nervous, as for the past several years other stylists insisted on giving me the outdated Jennifer Aniston cut. However, Stanley quickly assured me that he would not take that route - instead, he suggested what would best suit my face and best of all - HE GOT IT RIGHT!!! My hair is now growing into a look I love and I owe it to Stanleys patience, skill and of course the helpful reviews. Thanks!

I have been having my hair cut by "Johnny Boy" Gaita for nearly 8 years, and I almost had a heart attack when I found out he left his previous salon! After phone calls to friends and many web searches---I FOUND HIM at Christopher Stanley Salon. What can I say? I LOVE him. He preforms pure magic on my (very) curly hair, and even has successfully given me bangs (any curly-headed girl knows bangs are usually not very flattering on us). And, during my last visit, he recommended a fantastic colorist, Maria, to highlighted my hair, and I was thrilled with the outcome.

Maria B, who has given me the most relaxing hair washes and scalp massages for several years, has recently become a colorist to my (and I'm sure others'!) great delight. Maria has colored my hair twice, and I am just thrilled with it. Please keep in mind that I've been to many top-end salons and have very high standards. Maria truly does not disappoint. Aside from her great skills, she is such a genuinely kind and real person who aims to please. My hair is softer and has wonderful, honey-toned highlights; I get many compliments. I highly recommend this very skilled colorist. You will not be disappointed.

I can't say enough about Christopher Stanley! The atmosphere is very inviting and all the staff are warm and knowledgable. Christopher has a deep understanding of color and is willing to listen to concerns, but let you know when a change is needed. He's simply the best. Stanley takes a lot of time with people discussing their hair before putting a blade to it. Having extremely curly hair myself, he has been the best stylist that I have ever had. Both Christopher and Stanley offer suggestions on how to deal with hair and color to optimize the services...which is really helpful. Peter, who straightens my hair (this is no easy task) is awesome and a lot of fun too! It is worth the price. Thank you!

I am a woman of Japanese decent and have been living in new york city for the past five years. I have attended numerous upscale salons in the city and for some reason have always had trouble finding a hair stylist that can give me a cut and style I am satisfied with. I just recently began to get my hair done by Johnny Gaita of Christopher Stanley Salon. I am now proud to say that I plan to keep Johnny Gaita as my permanent hair sylist. His ability to give me a cut that is long lasting and easy to style is a plus and hard to find. Johnny has also broaded my horizons to some new trendy styles that I was too afraid to try before with my previous hair stylists. Johnny Gaita, as well as Christopher Stanley Salon comes highly recommended in my book.

Remember Sun-In, people? Well, my hair had that orange color when I visited Christopher at his salon, which he co-owns with Stanley (hence the name). I asked Christopher to take the color down many notches so that it didn't look like my head was on fire. So he gave me a chocolate brown base color with tasteful highlights. As a result, my hair looks much classier. Highly recommended.

After reading all the reviews, tried Christopher Stanley back in August, and can say 4 months later that my cut and my highlights still look good. I was in a rather bad car accident in September and was not able to go for my second visit as planned, but I still look great. Super laid back atmosphere, no annoying salon gossip, no fuss, yet still cool. My medium length brunette hair with increasing number of greys did and still does not look like a bad brown dye job. It looks natural, the highlights didn't oxidize as I would have expected, and I'm ready to reschedule in January now that I"m better. I don't live in nyc anymore, but it's worth the trip in to their salon for the talent. And forgot to add Noelle's blowout was great, a hard thing to come by sometimes.

Stanley is amazing with curly hair! I have curly hair that I love to do straight. Not only does Stanley know how to cut curly hair, but he does it so it looks good either curly or straight. I always have trouble finding a stylist who knows how to style curly hair so it also looks good straight. Im never going anywhere else!!! I highly recommend giving it a try!

I got the worst color treatment (i look fake and horrible now) I have EVER had and the service was condescending and rude after making me wait for an hour--they did not listen to what I wanted AT ALL, gave me what I exactly did not want. They were also doing construction so there were paint fumes everywhere. Overall I have to say this is the most disappointing and worst salon experience I have ever had. do yourself a favor and rethink going there. I found out after going that the reason there are so many good reviews here are are that they give their customers a discount to write reviews, so it does not necessarily reflect anything.

i had my hair cut by stanley a couple of months back. i've been very happy with the cut and i'm therefore heading back today for another. i have challenging hair, thick and wavy, and stanley gave me a fabulous cut that allows me to wear my hair either naturally or blown out.

I must admit, the rating and clientele reviews is what my virgin colored hair needed to feel confident with CS and I can honestly say I was the least bit dissatisfied. The atmosphere and staff was very inviting, and to know that my hair stylist was actually waiting for me and not the other way around, earned CS big kudos. I left the color suggestions up to Paul and he did a wonderful job. Noelle was not scissor happy. She did an awesome job with my layers. Maria did a great job with washing and blow drying my hair. My brother was the first to see me and he kept complimenting me. I knew then that I received great service. It was well worth the money, although it was a bit pricey, which is why I took the time out to glorify such great people:)

FINALLY!!! A salon that actaully listens to your needs but at the same time will give you their opinion. For those of you out there who have long hair like myself...don't worry they won't chop it off. When I say a trim, thats exactly what I get a trim. This salon is superb with color as well...thank god for Stanley. I had too many blonde highlights and one day he looked at me and said it was time to relax with the blonde and start working low lights my your hair. So we did and I couldn't be more happy. Besides their talent with cut and color, I need to say how attentive they are to their clientelle. Everyone who works here makes you feel at home and when you call up to make an appointment they actually remember your voice. Now thats talent!!!

Christopher Stanley is by far the best salon!! After getting horrible bleached out highlights, I booked an appointment with Chris and he fixed it so it looks totally natural and amazing!!! Then I went to Julie who fixed the horrible layers that were put in my hair and she did it without even having to cut it short!
The atmosphere is laid back and everyone is friendly. I would recommend this salon to anyone wanting a fabulous hair cut and natural looking hair color.
I'm going back next week!!!

The positive reviews got me in the door although I was skeptical that any salon could really deliver on them. Bottom line: they did. Natasha did an excellent job on full highlights and Julie C gave me a great cut. I did not get that all too common feeling that I might be pushed into decisions outside my comfort zone. Julie quickly assessed that I was probably not interested in making any dramatic change and worked really well with my existing style. I had total confidence in her judgment. No one I encountered in the salon had attitude- it was an extremely positive experience. I live in Eastern Connecticut and have already booked my return appoinment.

My hair was butchered by a reputable salon on the Upper East Side. CS sorted it. Calmly, professionally and lovingly. A very healing all over hair experience. Beautifully taken care of.

It was a blessing to find Stanley. I have fine, curly hair that was cut wrong and over highlighted. In just two visits my hair has regained its health and I have a beautiful color and an amazing hair cut that can be worn curly or straight. Stanley is a master in color and cut. The attention and consideration to every detail is amazing; not to mention that a dry and a wet cut are given. Stanley knew exacltly how to care for my curls plus he teaches you how to care for them. There is no pressure to the buy the products they provide in the salon, however, I have used them and they are the best. Stanley is priceless and his staff is amazing. Miguel and Billy will make you feel like you called or walked into your best friend's home.

After an arduous struggle to find out where Johnny Gaita went, I finally found him. THANK GOODNESS!! I am probably amongst one of 800 of his clients freaking out trying to find out where he went. Let me just say that it was worth the search. I was in the Christopher Stanley Salon this past weekend and challenged Johnny to a phenomenal haircut. I had a black tie affair that evening and needed to look hot!. I have to say that the haircut I got is one of his best so far. You can just tell that Johnny feels so complacent in his new location. If you enjoy an atmosphere that is unpretentious and the antithesis of snooty, then this is it. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I can't wait to utilize the other services they offer. They made me feel right at home.

I recently moved to New York City from Oklahoma and was in need of a new salon. I found everything I was looking for when I visited Christopher Stanley. The staff is amazing. Natasha colored my hair to my exact wishes. I will never go anywhere else again. Plus, you can't beat the price and the service. It was all my salon dreams come true.
