Washington Square Hotel

Small rooms but didn't spend much time there.The location is great for getting around. Staff was very accomodating when the first room we were assigned had sagging beds. They gave us another room which was fine. Only ate the provided breakfast which was good but wish that breakfast started earlier than 7:30

This was a great place to stay. Me and my family had the best time. Great location, great staff, good food, and the rooms were very nice.

The best thing about New York is the service - but not here.

You are pretty much ignored from the moment you step in till the moment you leave. No thank you after you pay. No bell boy, no assistance whatsoever provided to you once you check in.

Lugged bags through heavy door, up wrong set of lifts, couldn't find room - was not told I should have used other lifts.

Cleaning staff dont know how to clean. breakfast was HORRIBLE and not even worth $1. Best thing - Babbo across the road. Stayed there for 9 nights and really was so unimpressed wtih it. The cafe downstairs was actually shut most afternoons and I ate in the restaurant once - and was the only person in there. Had to flag down a girl to serve me - she was too busy chatting to her other wait staff, and then when the bill came they charged me for 2 extra glasses of wine - and when I questioned them didn't even get an apology.

Really noisy airconditioner that intermittently switches itself off and on during the night.

TV was really old and had terrible reception.

Really - pay the extra and get a better breakfast, better service and better facilities. Not worth it at all.

Only good thing was the proximity to everything.

You're lucky to get a decent room with your own bathroom in Manhattan for $250/nite but this is the place! quaint lobby, nice staff. Our room was clean with new linens. Furniture was new-ish. Classy decore. Loved the 1940's feel. There was a TV. Not much of a view. Doorman was very kind and helpful but didnt offer to take our bags to the room. Halls were narrow and elevator small so our big bags were awkward. Only down side was the really small rooms. Ours was approx 12' x 12' - Just big enough for our bags. We couldnt really unpack since there wasnt a dresser (the vanity table was good to get ready at but no storage) and the closet was just big enough for a suit and a couple dresses. The bathroom was tiny too. But heck, we were in Manhattan! Who needs to spend time in their rooms? The location is excellent - we walked to 5th Ave and University Place and found many shops/eateries. There also was a few pizza places open within walking distance for our 2am hunger. It is close to a university so most of the people in the closer establishments were of college age. We didnt eat in the resteraunt but had a cocktail (a little weak for the price).. Babbo's is across the street - yum! Room service was good - they waited until later in the day to clean up (us west-coasters sleep in late due to the time change). The subway system is close by which made traveling easy and inexpensive. The staff called a car for us to get to the airport early AM on a Monday and we were driven in a great Ford Escalade. I was nervous about this place since there were not any good, recent reviews but my friend did a walk-by and gave us the thumbs up. I would recommend it especially if budget is an issue but next time will save more $$ to stay uptown.

Check in was OK. The doorman was too busy listening to his iPod to bother with the door so make sure you can manage your bags and the door at the same time. The room was small, not very clean, and everything was really old. It somehow seemed sterile, though because the walls were completely white and barren. The bed was horrible. It was supposed to be a deluxe queen and two pillows barely fit across the bed next to each other. It was lumpy and more like a cot. I even called the desk to ask if they put us in the right room. Our "view" was a boarded up building. The whole place needs to be updated. We went to the bar at 11:30 pm and barely made last call. So much for the city that never sleeps. (NOTE: They added 18% gratuity to our bill.) The continental breakfast is homogenous fruit salad that tastes like the plastic bucket it was delivered in. (I work in foodservice - it's not fresh fruit). There are also blah bages and muffins. Upon check out, they didn't ask how the stay was so I didn't bother telling them. The best part is the location for the price. There aren't many resonably priced hotels in the Village.

Its all about location. Steps from the beautiful Washington Square Park, Ave of the Americas and ACEBDFV subway lines. Close to : NYU, SoHo, and The village.

The rates are reasonable and rooms are basic. Spring the extra 20 bucks and get a deluxe room, its worth it. The staff is not overly friendly, but helpful. I have stayed at this place more than 4 times now and love it.

Most of the rooms face the street and provide side views of Washington Sq Park.
This hotel is a nice break from the tourist ridden Times Square and is always full of fun places to visit!

the rooms are tiny and old, but clean and well-kept. great coffee and service with the complimentary continental breakfast. two intimate bars. there is a lot of attention to detail here; the management or owner cares. right across the street from Babbo!

The Washington Square Hotel is a very pleasant small hotel which give a lot of value for what you pay. The restaurant is also quite good and the Baked Alaska is wonderful. The hotel gym even has a Woodway treadmill which is something you dont get even at the most expensive hotels in NYC.

The front-desk staff are polite but rather curt (they did not offer us help with our bags upon check-in). The elevator was rather slow and antiquated and had a peculiar, animal-like odor. The first room my wife and I were given was situated right next to the elevator, and requested a room change. The next room was barren; the closet was tiny, the bed very hard with what appeared to be a military-issue grey blanket, and completely bare walls. The window looked out at three walls, allowing very little light in, and the air conditioner at the window had spikes on top with a few bird feathers, suggesting a wayward pigeon had unfortunately attempted a landing there. The bathroom's toilet was miniscule. Moreover, the walls were so thin that we could hear the toilet flush in the next room, as well as being forced to listen to other unmentionables.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel, expecting worse for the low price we paid ($150 a night in NYC is pretty cheap). Yet, we were impressed by the Euro feel of this hotel, very art deco. The rooms were small but not as small as I expected. They were clean and safe. Downstairs there is nice restaurant (North Square) and a great lounge area for late night cocktails. The best thing about it was the location, smack in the middle of the Village and very convenient to all transit. I recommend it to anyone looking for a decent but not expensive place to stay.

Rooms are very dated (1970's furnishings and wallpaper, no desk, just a low shelf along one wall), the hallways are dark and narrow, and the hotel offer no frills whatsoever. Moreover, the staff was not very helpful. However, the rooms were clean and the location is super if you like East/West Village, NYU, Soho, etc.

For the money, its OK for a short stay. However, if you like more modern accomodations you can get good discounts in better hotels in other parts of Manhattan and then take the subway to the Village.

This hotel was quite a surprise for me. I paid $154 for what I expected to be a near luxury room. What I got was something you would expect on an aging cruise ship. Very narrow halls, a metal cabin looking door, leading into a room about the size of a large closet. There was barely enough room to fit the full size bed. Nothing else in the bedroom, just the bed!!! The bathroom looked like something out of the fifties, with all white ceramic tiles. In summary, the rooms you get at this hotel are probably less then you can expect to pay $19.95 a night for at a roadside motel. My advice, go elsewhere. This hotel has location and nothing else.

Visiting New York and staying at the Washington Square Hotel reminded me of my stays at cute romantic hotels in Paris or London with good restaurants in the hotel.A family run operation with a lot of women s touches made me feel at home.Bravo
