Ideal place to buy gently used children's books. I have purchased books several times for my nieces and nephews for both Christmas and birthdays. Recently I was buying books for a family in need and the owner throw in extra for free.

Great service. She searched her inventory to find the steam punk authors I wanted. I always find something when I stop by and since I have a new grandchild, it saves me a little money and I get "gift quality" books.

The idea of the place is great, the inventory is wonderful, and the location, setting and cozy accomodations are good too. What ruins the book brower or tea drinker's experience here is the ruined atmosphere. What ruins it: the owner. The female half of this place, Debbie. She can't stop talking! Granted, a hello upon entering is great, and so is offering assistance. But every time I have visited I have experience constant and incessant chatter from her to the point of driving me out the door! I have heard:
her health problems
her retirement issues.
How her girlfriend annoys her
the perils of the building, and owning a business
Where she and her husband have been and where they are going.
Her flea market acquistions.
Her sewing and crafting efforts.
Her dieting experiences, and her woman complaints.
The latest books she, herself has read, and the entire plot line.

I go to a book store such as hers to zone out and relax, to listen to NOTHING, and be able to concentrate on what I am looking at, and enjoy the displays, and new inventory. It is SO incredibly annoying to have her constant chatter, and no stop talk, that I now have to go to N. Syr. to the big store Barnes Nobles. She ruins the entire experience of a used and quaint book store.

She also charges way too much, and will be more than glad to go into deep depth and detail to discribe how little she makes, and the losses she endures, and even how she give a cup of free tea to some of the local misfits who happen to stop in.

Please wake up-I am not the only one who you drive out of your shop!!!!! Leave us to peruse and entertain ourselves!!!!

And PLEASE CLEAN OUT THE RATS NEST OF A KITCHEN!!! IT IS SO MESSY THERE IS NO WHERE TO SIT, NOR TO EVEN WRITE A CHECK OR COUNT OUT MONEY. It could be so adorable their if you just hoed out your crap off the counters, and cleaned the place!!! jeez...

Business Response:

We are a very small business, with NO employees. Because we fly solo, I often have boxes of inventory in our check out area (which is also our storage area for the online shoppe) that we are working on to provide you with the clean, organized stock in our stacks. THIS is the only area with this clutter, if you noticed. We are not a new books chain such as Barnes and Noble, whom you compare us to. So we can't offer this to you, and only wish we DID have employees. There is only me. My spouse doesn't work here. Like most, if not all, USED booksellers, we are often working beyond the 40 hours a week that most jobs require. So, yes, we are messy at the checkout on occasion, and we make our apologies not only now, but then (you may recall). There is nothing we can do about this, energy level being limited to those 50 or so hours a week. Check out other used bookshops. As for the chat: MOST of our customers like and expect us to help them with their purchases in a way chains do not, which can lead to conversations as you will almost always find in small business. However, we don't spend time talking to customers who do not talk back to us. In order to harvest all this information, you must have been talking TO us on more than one occasion. I can't see myself standing in the store and announcing all you cited to an unwilling audience. Some of what you listed, I have a difficulty wrapping my mind around. For instance, we haven't sold tea or coffee in a decade, so the seating throughout the shoppe is for your book buying convenience. I don't know many stores that provide seating at the register, so when our stool has books on it, it wasn't meant for the customer. Since I don't craft or sew, I think this was thrown in, as were several other complaints to make a point. The final issues were over pricing. We sell most like new or close to like new books for less than half their original prices, even to the point of 95 percent off in our bargain racks. I don't know what you were commenting on in this regard. So if you keep coming back, it must be because we have something to offer you. Most of our customers appreciate our efforts to secure gently used, not moldy used books. I know they especially appreciate new unread books when we can find them. And, we go to a lot of TROUBLE, to find them for customers... like you.

This charming little store is set up in the downstairs of a single family house on one of the four busiest intersections in Oswego. The office was once a kitchen, the living room now hosts ceiling- high shelving, ditto the parlor. Attached to the main structure is a large newly constructed reading room furnished in period manner. A bright, comfortable place to sample the wares or just relax with a cup of tea, and there's a private deck out back if you're in the mood to take the air.
The owner claims 10,000 titles and I believe her. I even found a used copy of local author Art Tirrell's debut novel "The Secret Ever Keeps" http://www.Kunati.com in prime condition. The book hasn't been out a month and already they had a copy.
If you drive, there's plenty of parking, and for those on foot the store is close in, a short hike from the Oswego Canal (between locks 7 & 8) so boaters in transit will definitely want to pay a visit.
Highly recommended to anyone who loves to read and doesn't mind a few fingerprints here and there.

Very nice little store. I was surprized how nice of a place this was. They sell books and tea. They are clean, The place is neat and the staff is nice and very helpful. A nice place to get second hand books and they will be happy to help you find what you need. They are not located in a great area but they do have parking and they do offer alot of things other stores done offer.
