this is great place to stay in nyc, if u want save money and still stay in the city. I used to live there for 2months looking for apart. i paid 200/week, room was really small. just small bed, tv, and small cabinet. Showers r terrible, i went there just with my flipflops on. I had my clother in suitcases under the bed. but it was fine for the money i paid.
i dont know y people complaine about that place. pay more money and go to nice hotel than! what do u expect for 60$/nite? luxury?
now when i go to nyc for few days, i'm staying there. is good just for sleeping, but there is so much to do in the city, so y waste the time in room...

Unless you start looking at hostels, you won't find a cheaper hotel in the city. An interesting building historically with a great off-broadway theatre. However, the staff and clientele can comprise a quite "interesting" set of characters. The bathrooms are shared and questionable. The rooms are extremely small and feel like little cells. A cot, a little walking space, a lightbulb, and that's about it. (Though oddly enough, the TV brought basic channels in pretty clear!)
If you're brave to deal with questionable people and bare minimum room & amenities, you've come across a value. Otherwise, stay away from the rooms & just see the theatre!
PROS: cheap, very cheap...
CONS: bare living

The rooms are small but thats seriously the only downfall. I am a 22 year old female and while planning my trip, was obviously mostly concerned with safety. The rooms have two locks which can only be locked from the inside and the only way to enter the hotel is through the front lobby so I always felt extremely safe. There is also a heavy duty safe under the bed for your laptop or jewelry. The service was spectacular, I arrived too early for check-in so they held my luggage for me! The bathrooms are ALWAYS clean and are newly renovated. If you're not particular about your soap, shampoo, or conditioner, they are all provided for you in the showers. The rooms come with a comfy robe to wear to and from the showers, AND they also provide you with shower shoes! Internet service, flat-screen TV, and iHome all in rooms. My trip was in the end of May; however, the air-conditioner worked great and the room also has a fan just incase. 6 outlets throughout the room and they even offer room service. I'm not sure where these other people are coming up with their negative reviews but, anyway, I stayed for two weeks and I absolutely loved it (and I'm picky)!
Pros: Friendly service, clean bathrooms
Cons: Semi-uncomfortable beds
The rooms were tiny. I mean tiny. I knew that going in, and took a leap of faith that the rooms would be on par with the Ace Hotel chain, just smaller. Here's my takeaway from The Jane:
- The bathroom for the floor was closed, so I was directed to the bathroom one floor down.
- The staff was more interested in the line of hipsters going into the bar. Every night was a private party, so I didn't go into the bar and cannot speak to it.
- It was under construction. Drywall was being hung 10 feet from my room.
- You rely on an absent elevator operator to get you to your floor.
Save up a few more bucks and go to a nicer hotel. Even at $99/nt, this was not a good value.
Pros: good question.
Cons: Not sure where to start.
How unfortunate for what is supposed to be a boutique hotel to be so deceptive. In the middle of a construction zone, guests and SRO tenants have to walk through dangerous hallways, get scalded by extremely hot water, and deal with an extremely rude staff. Is this a new hotel concept? Maybe it should be used at the Maritime and Bowery as well. Good luck to this team of nincompoops (spelling?).
Pros: Great location
Cons: Everything
