I have eaten in some of the best steak houses here and abroad, while Florentine beef is
very good, Delmonicos is still number one.
Yes, historic Delmonicos, originator o Lobster Newberg, Baked Alaska and Chicken ala Keene (king). The service is still first rate and atmosphere hasnt changed since 1837. The only curious thing is that the appetizers and desserts are small while the main courses are enormous
We celebrated a birthday there recently and we were not disappointed. The double porterhouse was buttery and even sweet and cooked just right. The serving was so big that we served three instead of two. The sides were very good and both were swimming in heavy cream or butter.
For dessert a chocolate mouse cake sandwiched peanut butter and vanilla ice on the side made me think about spending an extra hour at the gym, but it was worth it

I think this place was fine. I was expecting better and have only gone there once. The food was fine, I don't think on the same level as the other fine restaurants in NY but if you're looking for a good place for business dinner, it is ok.

Excellent food. Very good Burger and fries. Friendly staff. Ambience was very good. Went during the peak lunch time but did not have to wait long. Will go again.

Delmonico's is a great Old School steak house with a great wine list, quality aged steaks and great service.
It does not however do breakfast...

My friend and I went there for dinner and we sat at table in the lounge. The service was good and our waitress was nice and friendly.
I ordered theT-Bone Steak , medium rare. The steak was very good, tender and juicy. I would have given the place 4 stars but the price of the steak was a bit to high for it. I was expecting a very good to excellent steak. I've been to other places with the same or better steak and it was cheaper. Our salad was the Garden Salad and it was okay. Next time, I will probably order the Delmonico's Steak . Over all, a nice place.

Living in NYC for many years, I've always known about Delmonico's but had never gone. Maybe we take things for granted here sometimes. When's the last time you visited the Statue of Liberty? :-) Anyway, Delmonico's came through on all fronts. Fantastic service, delicious food, yes, especially the steaks, and a nice wine list..... all in a very nice atmosphere. Highly Recommeneded

Great tasting steaks and shrimp cocktail. Located in the financial district making the atmosphere very quite and pleasent. High prices for steak but they are delicious.

Although Delmonico's has received mixed reviews during restaurant week, my boyfriend and I thought we'd give it a try for our first NYRW experience. Our reservation was at 8:00pm, and we arrived a couple minutes early. Upon entry, we had no idea what we were in for. There was absolutely no order for checking in. It looked like a pack of hyenas trying to get to the food. The hostesses were taking names randomly on a notepad -- so reservations were utterly useless. They would take a few names, then seat people and before they could make their way back to the podium, patrons would bombard them with names. It was absolute chaos. People with reservations were livid. Since I've never been here before, I cannot say whether or not this is standard form. In the end, we waited 45 minutes to be seated, which honestly, I really shouldn't complain about considering you can wait longer than this at chain restaurants.

Now to the food! Knowing that we were paying $35 for the prix fixe menu, we weren't expecting huge portions. But it was delicious! I ordered the tuna carpacccio; he ordered the Caesar salad. These were small portions indeed, but the bread basket complimented them. We both ordered the filet mignon (8oz) with garlic mashed potatoes. Absolutely amazing. My steak was cooked to perfection and the potatoes were to die for. The chocolate mousse layer cake was a sweet conclusion to the meal. We shared a bottle of the special wine for $29 (hey, we're still young and on a slight budget) and enjoyed it.

The service was impeccable and we never felt rushed. I'll definitely come back here in the near future and will be happy to order from the regular menu.

No surprises at Delmonico's. Their dry aged steaks, sides, desserts and prices are on par with other old school steak houses in NYC.

its ok for a steakhouse, but should be a lot better considering its 'oldest steakhouse in america' title and price. the steak i got was pretty overdone and small for the cut i would expect. no great sides either, just kind of the normal offerings(mashed potatoes, 2 slices of veggies) the baked alaska desert was only ok too, so you should probably stay with the tried and true molten chocolate whatever.
the insides of the place are like a room in scrooge mcduck's house, opulant and old feeling

My boyfriend and I shared dinner at Delmonico's last Thursday evening. We had reservations for 8:30PM and found the restaurant to be rather empty. Unfortunately, we were sat next to a rowdy group of Wall Street folk - 10 guys who yelled, cheered, and cursed their way through dinner. The host finally went over to shush them after every guest in the restaurant glared at the table. Ambience aside, the food was fantastic. Oysters rockefeller were tasty, the Delmonico's salad was fresh and light with melt-in-your-mouth fresh mozzarella, avocado, roasted red peppers, and a flavorful viniagrette. My boyfriend got the filet mignon (a LARGE, thick piece of meat with a delightful smokey flavor) and I relished in my seared tuna (again, another LARGE piece of fish which I had cooked rare). Although dessert was a forgettable cheesecake (paired with some UNforgettable berries and whipped cream), we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. With two glasses of red wine each, the tab came to about $150.00. We will definitely return...although we recommend that something be done about the ambience as the lighting is quite bright and the atmosphere quite stuffy.

its the oldest eatery in the apple. And its still one of the best business lunch spots out there. The meat is well served and rather delicious. The decor takes you back to another time. But prepare to spend because the guy at the table next to you just might be Hank Greenberg.

We just moved to the financial district and thought it would be worth trying the famous "Delmonico's" for the first time....unfortunately it was not worth it. The ambience was all wrong, the bar opened into the main dining room causing the noise to flow into the room. The lighting was wrong creating an almost cafeteria feel. Although the wine was very good; it was quite over priced. The wait staff was on point; but the heart was not there; they seemed almost mechanical. For the food; we got the oysters as an appetizer; although they were tasty they were very small. The steak was the worst part though; the filet's were large but the meet was tough....

Overall it was an establishment that went ary. It was not worth the price.

Basically, they treated us funny b/c we were ordering from the restaurant week. The food was good, but the portions were really small. Service was ok--but I asked for a specific wine...the waiter said he didn't know. He asked someone I think, but still came back with a lame-I don't know answer. I wish I had ordered the filet from the regular menu

I went to Delmonico's for the first time last night, and it truly lived up to its reputation. We were a party of four, and all ordered from the prix fixed menu available for Restaurant Week. The service was fantastic - attentive, prompt, and polite. We were there for almost three hours, and never felt rushed, even at the peak of dinnertime. The decor was bright and elegant, while also exhibiting a historical ambiance. The food was extremely flavorful, especially the hash browns, with more than sufficient portions. The best was their recommended wine - a smooth, sweet, and flavorful Cabernet for only $30/bottle! This restaurant is a NYC institution, and I would gladly go back any time!

Avoid Delmonico's during Restaurant Week. Not only are you charged $35 for a sub par meal, but the portions were minuscule. The steak was the thinnest cut I've ever seen, the potato and spinach portions were the size of a quarter and and the chocolate cake for dessert was served to me frozen. If I had known all of this, I would have ordered from the "real" menu.

I took advantage of the 20.00 and did wait 20 minutes for a table with a reservation but it didnt bother me a bit i understood that everyone had to take a chance at this offer it was one of the best dining experiences i have had through the city and i would most definetly recomend it. everyone was to pleasent.

Classy but not stuufy dining room. Comfortable old bar. The food is excellent. Everyone in my group was very pleased. Great service. I had a chicken dish that was jsut about perfect. My companion had a wonderful stuffed veal dish that was great. Nice wine list.
