We have been bringing Briscoe, our chocolate lab, to Susan Ferry at Pawsitive Experience, since he was less than a year old. Eight years later, and we are so grateful that we made that decision. Susans expertise, care, and concern for not only the animals, but their families, is something you will not find just anywhere.
Briscoe goes to Pawsitive Experience on a weekly basis for doggie daycare, and is also boarded there on numerous occasions. The minute we say Susan to Briscoe, he gets so excited and runs to the door with his tail wagging and cant wait to jump in the car. It is comforting to know that while we are away, not only is Briscoe in excellent care, but that he is happy to be there as well.
From training Briscoe (and more importantly us) when he was a new pup, to acclimating Briscoe with both are babies when they were brought home and the change in structure that comes along with that, Susans expertise in animal behavior has been a valuable asset to us. She has also worked with our children as they grow, who are sometimes timid when there are different animals around, how to remain calm and actions to take to not alarm or trigger an animal, so that both are safe.
Susan and Pawsitive Experience has made an impact on not only Briscoes life, but his families as well. We are so grateful to Susan for not only providing excellent care, training and behavior modification for Briscoe, but for teaching us as well on how to make adjustments in our behavior to allow for a better relationship between us and our pet.

I recently needed to go out of the country for a month. My fur-babies are my 3 dachshunds, Pippin, Stella, and Chloe. I was sick with worry about them...and then....I found Susan at Pawsitive Experience. SHE KNOWS DOGS!!! My smallest, Chloe, was hyper-sensitive around bigger dogs and I didn't think that she could have been boarded. But Susan's place is like one big happy family with room to run around AND spaces to go if you want to be alone, and, with Susan's experience as a Dog Behaviorist.......Put it this way, I saw video of Chloe playing with other dogs, both large and small and even running under their legs. All three spent their month happy and healthy.

Susan was a life saver for my wife and myself. We had a small puppy that was going to train us. No matter how hard we tried little Holly came out the winner. We had a home visit with Susan who was prepared to correct us as parents in the proper training techniques to stop our Holly from doing her business in our home. Within just a couple of hours Holly learned who was the boss and where she was to go potty. With the correct instruction and faithfulness to our training Holly is a success story. Thank you Susan.

We recently moved into hamburg and were looking for a place for our gsd Duke to interact with other dogs. What a fantastic place and person we found!! Susan and her home are the best ! Duke just loves going to Susan's a couple of days a week! He comes home and is a a tired happy pup! His manners are improving tremendously!! Thanks to Susan! We needed to have duke stay over night recently. We were so comforted knowing our boy was staying with Susan and her dogs as part of their family.

We've been bringing our dog to Susan for the last 4 years, since he was a puppy, and wouldn't consider taking him anywhere else for daycare or boarding.

For one thing, the facilities and grounds are more like a home than a kennel. There's a lot of open space for the dogs to play, not to mention a toddler-size swimming pool for the 'dog days of summer.' Every day that we take him there, our dog can't wait to get out of the car, he enjoys it that much.

Susan has always been so caring and thoughtful with him, so we know he's in good hands and don't have any worries about him while we're out of town. Susan has an in-depth, instinctive knowledge of what makes dogs tick, as well as how to keep them healthy, and she's always ready with helpful advice and suggestions. Whenever we have any questions or issues with behavior, she's our 'go-to' authority.

I have had the PRIVILEGE of bringing my puppy here 9 years ago. I have NEVER met an equal in understanding a dog's needs or a dog's heart as I have found here. I would NEVER trust my furry friend in anyone else's care. The knowledge, love, structure, and passion in the facility is exemplified in a way other institutions should only wish to meet.

I would like to take a moment to say that our personal experience with A Pawsitive Experience and Susan Ferry has exceeded all of our expectations in caring for our dog Lexi and helping us to understand our pets needs so that we get the optimum return in our time and efforts. I was seeking a place where Lexi could get some socialization with other dogs. She was also experiencing some health issues that we were trying to resolve. Susan zeroed right in on the problems and directed me to a wealth of resources to aid in our understanding of Lexi's needs. She is currently happy and healthy and has gained 10 pounds over the last two months thanks to Susan. I also love that fact that if you need to have your dog stay for a couple of nights she is not just in a kennel and crated but is outside and playing all day long. She is also always happy to return there . A Pawsitive Experience was recommended to me by a friend. I did not even know such a place existed. I looked at several places prior to having Lexi go for daycare and the minute we met Susan and saw her facilities the decision was made on the spot. We are very fortunate to have this standard of care within minutes of our home.

My dog spent a week boarding at Pawsitive Experience and I think he got a better vacation than I did. He got to play with all the other dogs all day rather than being stuck in a crate like he would at a traditional kennel. And under Susan's experienced care, he came back a better trained dog! When I kenneled him elsewhere last year, I could tell he was peeved at me when I picked him up. But, after his stay at Pawsitive Experience, he was happy as a clam...and tired like crazy from all his running around.

We as a community are lucky to have Pawsitive Experience in Western New York. Susan is an amazing person, she has an uncanny rapor with all the canines she works with. She is totally dedicated to learning all she can about canine behavior, nutrition, and the latest pet craze. She usually can answer any question or give me a reliable reference to research it.
I have been Breeding and Showing champion Saint Bernards for over two decades. Several years ago, one of my large males who had two cruciate surgerys, (torn ligaments) was confined to his kennel for several months, it was a long recovery, unfortunatley, he missed out on crucial soicalization. I noticed some unwanted protective behaviors that I didnt like. He was a gorguoes dog and I didnt know if I would be able to show him with that attitiude. I was referred to Susan, she came to the house and we started working with him.
A few months later I took him to a big show over two thousand dogs were entered. He did wonderful, not only did he win 3 point majors two days in a row, he was extremely well behaved and very lovable. I called Susan immediatly after the win and were both estatic. I have been working with Susan ever since. I have had 3 of my puppys complete her PAWS program, and a fourth that is in the program now. It is the best investment I can put into these dogs. An investment that will last a lifetime.
I could talk a lot more about the benefits of this facility, but I think you should go check it out yourself and see.

As a local veterinarian, I have had the pleasure of working with Susan Ferry for the past 2 years. All of my experiences with her have been extremely rewarding. Susan is a very knowledgeable individual who has done and continues to do research to further educate herself with canine health and training.

As far as her facility, it is nothing short of beautiful. She has worked tirelessly to create well defined areas to suit all types of personalities among dogs. Those in her care receive the best treatment possible. I would never hesitate for a second to recommend her to anyone seeking assistance in training, or anyone looking for a responsible, dependable, and enriching daycare establishment.

absolutely the best. We highly recommend Pawsitive Experience! We are first time dog owners and didn't know what to expect or how to raise a dog. Susan taught us and the dog and it truly was a POSITIVE experience. Our dog is very well behaved and a joy to be around.

I took our puppy, Oscar, to Susan mid May for a week while my husband had total hip replacement. I found Susan through my neighbor, who has two rescues they adopted as older dogs (not puppies). When I took Oscar to Susan, I was looking for a clean, safe environment for my then 3-1/2 month old puppy while I ran up to Millard Suburban for my husband's surgery and initial recuperation. Basically, safe, clean custodial care.

We lost our last dog to cancer in November. He was 14 years old. Although it was my insistence we get another dog, after Oscar was home, I really didn't like him (sorry Susan)- he wasn't our Rudy.

Much to my pleasant surprise, what I got when I picked Oscar up after a week with Susan was a dog that had developed his own personality, very different than Rudy's, but one I quite like and enjoy. Oscar tends to be on the submissive side, and a week with Susan and the dogs gave him the confidence to develop in his own, individual way. Leo is indeed my hero. I just love to observe him working with the puppies and teaching them in a gentle, loving manner.

When I took Oscar for that week, he was still having accidents. Actually, I don't think they were accidents. I think he was trying to mark his territory because they were always in the the front hall where the old dog spent a lot of time gazing out the door. I mentioned this to Susan and she assured me Oscar would learn the proper place to potty from the other dogs. I was a bit suspect but she was right. Since the middle of May, we've two accidents in the house, and I believe this time, they were accidents. I wasn't home and my husband wasn't getting around quickly enough to let him outside.

Oscar hadn't been to Susan's for a couple of weeks because my husband was getting around and enjoyed having the dog home with him. I took him this past Tuesday and the submissive behaviors were evident again. This dog is walked at least twice a day, allowed to interact with neighbors and other dogs in the neighborhood, and still we had the behavior. After just a few minutes, he fell into line, with Leo at the helm, and had a wonderful day.

Susan segregates the smaller/younger dogs from the larger ones. My Oscar has communicated to Susan that he's ready and wanting to play with the bigger dogs. She started him out this week with the smaller dogs but he was insistent about playing with the others.

Yesterday when I picked up Oscar, there was a little tiny Chihauau (sp?) that was there to meet the dogs. He'll be in our puppy class. If you could have seen the dogs interact with his little peanut, it was just unbelievable. Susan placed him on the coffee table and the other dogs went up to meet him, of course, under close supervision by Susan. Oscar was a bit zealous, and Leo brought Oscar a toy to distract him. Than Oscar and Bailey both picked up toys to take to the little dog. It is unbelievable how quickly the dogs find their place in this canine community, and it all works.

I applaud you for investigating and finding the right place for your new pup. You've found it with Susan. You will be pleasantly surprised on how your new little charge will come into his own. She is a font of information, not only with behaviors and training, but nutritional and health issues as well. I changed Oscar's food to Artemis, the holistic food that she sells, and his hyperactivity, so common with labs, has improved markedly.

Susan's suggestion to take your dog to Happy Hour has a lot of merit. You need to take a deep breath though and relax and just enjoy watching all the dogs romp and play. You'll love watching Leo with the pups. He's the handsome black and tan Shiloh who is always running with the puppies. Our dogs do take their cues from us, so you do need to work very hard at being relaxed and comfortable with any situation that involves your dog, be it the Pawsitive's PAWS program, trips to the Vet, or fireworks and thunderstorms. If you don't communicate nervousness and anxiety, it will help your puppy adjust more quickly, and in a positive way.

After unsatisfactory results from other obedience classes, I was fortunate enough to find A Pawsitive Experience. I entered my French Bulldog puppy, Layla, into the P.A.W.S. (Puppy Adjustment to World Stimuli) program and the results have been nothing short of amazing! Since Layla's enrollment, her bad habits which included jumping, biting, ignoring commands and excitability have disappeared! The training does not end at the pup, however. Through Susan's extensive experience and guidance, I have learned that my reactions to Layla will mold her behaviour. Layla has now become the obedient companion I've always wanted and I have become the positive and well-informed mom she needs. I also must mention the beauty of Susan's home. It is built for animals, both domestic and wild. When you pull up you will certainly see dozens of birds feeding on her many feeders along with bunnies and chipmunks. Inside, there are cats and dogs of all sizes peacefully lounging together to soft music. Outside you will find an unbelievable set-up for supervised play. The dogs have a blast swimming (big pool area for big dogs, kiddy pool for small breeds), climbing the obstacles, and playing together with many available toys. And Susan keeps her home spotless. I am always impressed by her commitment to the animals and her amazing training skills, for both owner and pet. She is a true blessing to know. Thank you, Susan!

My husband and I researched many boarding/daycare places and Pawsitive Experience is hands down the best we have come across for many reasons. Susan is very knowledgeable/helpful with any questions we have and she has available a wide assortment of useful pet information including but not limited to articles about food, current health issues, etc.

A great aspect is the non-traditional kennel atmosphere, the accommodations are in a home setting, not a fenced in kennel with a cold floor. There is also an ample amount of room for the dogs to run around and play. Susan takes great care of the animals and gives them all personal attention. We know when Diesel (our Pug/Boston Terrier mix puppy) is there we have nothing to worry about.

Due to the health requirements we also know Diesel is going to a safe and healthy environment that other kennels/daycare did not require. In addition the hours are great and Susan is very accommodating. Diesel LOVES it there; he cannot get out of the car quick enough. A Pawsitive Experience has been a truly positive one! We would recommend Pawsitive to anyone.

Choosing the right trainer was very important to me. Susan Ferry is a wonderful person. She takes the time to explain everything and treats all the dogs equal. My new pup just loves going to Susan's place and gets all excited when we pull into her driveway. I've learned a lot from Susan and plan on learning much more. I look forward to going to Pawsitive every week. Her boarded dogs are always happy and well taken cared of. I definitely plan on using her boarding services for my dog soon.

Pawsitive Experience is a service that provides doggy day care/overnite care for our dog. The great thing about Pawsitive is that you can drop your dog off early in the morning (6 AM) and pick him up as late as 6 PM in the evening. They have free play time with other dogs (supervised); a nice, safe, clean environment for the dogs and the owner takes the time to get to know each dog.
Our dog always seems to get excited when we mention that he is going to Pawsitive. We highly recommend this business.

PROS: Good value; safe & clean; flexible hours

As a kennel, pet boarding, pet training and pet socialization place - this is THE total experience for your pet. I have a dog and have had him trained, boarded, and socialized here. Susan is wonderful not only for the animal, but for the owner as well. The facility is clean, the animals are well cared for and disciplined, there is ample room for play and exercise. I have had experience leaving pets at a kennel where the animal is left in a cold cage and walked (maybe) daily... this is like a home away from home for your pet! I would whole heartedly recommend a Pawsitive Experience to anyone needing such services. Susan has a remarkable rapport with the animals.

My first exposure to A Pawsitive Experience came at the invitation of the owner, Susan Ferry , when I called her out of the blue to ask about meeting her Shiloh Shepherds, and she kindly invited me to a birthday party for one of them, a great dog named Teddy.

Not knowing what to expect, I found not only her own wonderful dogs there, but a total of 100 dogs, all playing happily off-leash ( I counted them ! ). There were lots of fun activities for all the dogs from agility to Canine Good Citizen testing, delicious food, and of course, the companionship of all those other dog lovers and their dogs.

What I truly found amazing that day, was that 100 dogs could play together for 3 hours and get along without any issues ~ really, I watched them all ! No issues. These were the dogs of Susan's client's and friends. It was very clear to me that anyone who could create a harmonious dog environment like that, clearly knew what she was doing. Her cat wasn't even phased by all those dogs !

So, of course, I wanted to learn from her with my own dogs ! I have participated in her weekly happy hour where the dogs play together and also in her training classes. A Pawsitive Experience has truly been a great place to learn and share with my dogs. Of course, I love the beautiful country setting where all these experiences take place, but I especially, really appreciate Susan Ferry and her qualities as person. She is both knowlegeable and sensitive to the needs of both pets and their people, and cares deeply about the bond that they are developing together and wants the best for all concerned. Her approach is positive, individualized, honest, direct and humorous in teaching both the dog and the person, and I have really valued learning from her.

Beyond my own direct experiences with Susan, I appreciate her efforts on behalf of various rescue dogs, as well as her not-for-profit foundation, Teddy's Touch, created in memory of her dog Teddy who died of bone cancer.

Puppy training is only the begining of what Susan has to offer at A Pawsitive Experience. Our dog went through the basic obedience, and we were given the tools to make our little wild man into the dog that people would always want. Not only does our Jackson have a personality, but he also wants to be at our side and obey. Susan will train the owner too, (because we all screw up training, and sometimes we, as owners, need it more than the dog)
Beautiful and well kept grounds, would not flinch at giving a recommendation. Wholistic, scientific, well-connected dog- lover....What more could you ask for?
P.S. Jackson is certified Canine Good Citizen through the AKC, due to the guidance given from Susan.
Thank you Susan for being who you are.

I was lucky to find out about Susan and her Pawsitive Experience operation in 2002 while searching for someone to take care of my convalescent English Setter (Jeddy). Jeddy was a lifelong bird hunting companion and very dear to me and my wife. Jeddys illness required him to be kept in a home setting with someone to care for him around the clock. A regular commercial kennel could not provide either suitable accommodation nor the level of personal attention/service for Jed. We therefore had to take Jed with us on every trip (including business trips) which was physically taxing on Jed and a logistic nightmare for us.

Susan Ferry - Pawsitive Experience - was able to: 1) provide accommodations in a real and warm home setting and 2) give Jed round the clock, personable and very competent care that was as good if not better than what my wife and I were capable of providing. As a result we were able to travel and take care of our business and have the peace of mind to know that JED WAS GETTING THE MOST COMPETENT AND AFFECTIONATE CARE POSSIBLE - period.

Its been a while since Jed passed away. Today we feel privileged to have come to know Susan as a true friend; we know that we can count on Pawsitive Experience to be a true home away from our home for all our K-9 companions, and grateful for it. We continue to use her service and will do so indefinitely.

PROS: Warm home environment; social setting (dogs & people); competent care
CONS: None.

I highly recommend Pawsitive Experience for both your dog obedience issues as well as boarding. My dogs love going to Pawsitive Experience because Susan Ferry treats them as if they were her own dogs. The facility is lovely, with an acre of yard for the dogs to run and play. I would NEVER send my dogs anywhere else but Pawsitive Experience. I highly recommend Pawsitive Experience to anyone who loves their pet enough to give them the very best!
