On 9/25/2010, 6 of us went to Puglia for dessert and drinks during the San Gerrino festival. It was our first time eating at this restaurant, and we had high hopes for the food, service and atmosphere. Everything was a total let down.

For starters, we ordered Sangria which was made by an absolute amateur and was definitely the most disgusting tasting drink I have ever tasted. I think they used a $2 bottle of wine to make it.The waiter agreed to replace it, giving as an explanation that the bar tender was drunk. The replacement Sangria was barely acceptable.

Every dessert we wanted to order from their menu was "out of stoc", leaving us with slim pickings. We ordered the american cheesecake and the molten chocolate cake. The cheesecake was grocery quality at best, and the molton chocolate cake was rubbery, cold, and not baked the day it was served.

We ordered a latte and mochacino, only to be told they didnt have it, 25 minutes after we ordered. What they failed to tell us was that they did have a cappucino.

Dont get me started with the service, we had to keep looking for our server who often disappeared into the back room of the restaurant. He even forgot to give us our bill which was had asked for, and it was only because he saw all of us staring at him while he tucked into his dinner that he remembered he was our server.

The bathroom was absolutely disgusting and dirty.

Over all it was expensive and absolutely lousy, I would NOT EVER eat here, unless you want to be out of money and have the worst possible experience in little Italy. The friend oreos I bought from one of the carts was a better value for money.

The only reason why this place even received one star is because I couldnt give it no star, which is what it really deserved

Pros: Great wines and foods...

Cons: Never thought to a culinary vacation in Puglia?

Ive been going here for almost 30 years and it is still excellent! I grew up in Jersey about 20 minutes away and always go to this place. Now I live in CT and it's our 1st stop when we go to the city!
Bella!

Pros: ALL THE FOOD IS GREAT

Puglia Restaurant makes a mockery out of Italian cooking. This basement restaurant in Little Italy regularly brings in the crowds to sit at the long wooden tables and enjoy "authentic Southern Italian cooking", but trust me, the food is not good. Nor is the homeade wine. Sorry to say, but not worth it.

Outdoor seating was awful. The umbrella was broken & falling over. The water had something floating in it. The plastic chairs were flimsy & dirty. Service was lazy. Ravioli was flavorless. The marinara sauce tasted homemade & was yummy, as was the bread. Linguini shrimp w/ white wine sauce was mediocre. Cheesesticks, mediocre. Pizza was average. Point is, nothing was overly flavorful or "distinguished". An okay place for a not-so-quick bite. The atmosphere was just sort of trashy, and I'm NOT at all a snob. It just seemed like a neighborhood pizza joint, just more expensive.

My wife and I were in Little Italy this weekend and stopped in for lunch. The service was amazing and so was the food. I usually get spagetti carbonara and love it. My wife had never been there before and she ordered the Lasagna and loved it. I then tried it and also fell in love with it. We travel alot and both love italian. They have the best LASAGNA of any place we have ever eaten. I would highly recommend stopping by and enjoying this lovely restaurant.

We went there 6 years ago and had a really fun time because of the live music and loud atmosphere, the place was crowded with people and energy... we decided to go back recently on a Friday night even though we knew food was ok at best (recent reviews still looks positive). What a big disappointment!!! Well we didn't expect food to be good but we were the only table there for the entire night (repeat... it was a Friday night). Because there weren't anyone else there, they were reluctant to perform live music. After a few inquiries, they decided to send a woman who didn't even know how to sing for a few songs... really pathetic!!! No wonder no one was there. There were 12 of us and my co-workers jokingly asked if I reserved the entire place! I thought to myself "maybe it's cold out and not a lot of people are hanging out" but as soon as we left we saw every restaurant around there was packed.

We came in on a weekend, being that all the other Italian Restaurants in Little Italy were full. The amount of people in here on a busy Saturday should've given us signs as to the quality of food/service Puglia should be known for.

This place serves their food luke warm (its as if it was only reheated in a hurry and they didn't heat it up all the way) and the waiters write in their own 20% tip when the bill comes. When asked why he wrote it in himself, he said that all Italian restaurants charge 20% and when we wrote 15% he kept insisting that we short changed him. He also insisted that it was customary to pay 20% in NY. That really took the cake, since he obviously thought we were tourists - and he was out to scam us. (The waiter is a Bald guy in his 30's)

Bottom Line, poor service, unclean atmosphere, it was not crowded, but yet very noisy, and food was not even heated properly and very very salty. And to top it all off, the waiter harrassed us. For the price they charge, you can get much much better elsewhere. This is a definite no - go.

Honestly, all the people who've written good reviews sound exactly the same. I wonder if it's insiders writing their own reviews. I honestly say "beware. " We were also sitting near their dessert bar, the waiters were touching everything and licking their fingers of the whip cream while touching the sliced strawberries afterwards. It's a completely nasty experience sitting there and watching this being done - poor person who had to eat those strawberries. Very very unhygenic.

What a fun place for a big group to go for dinner! I was at Puglia this past Saturday night for my friend's 21st birthday. There was about 15 of us and we definitely had a blast! The music sing-a-longs were hilarious and we just had an overall great time. Price was reasonable, but the food could have been better. I can't speak for everyone but my friend and i both had the lobster ravioli, which definitely wasn't bad, but wasn't that great either. The fun, loud and friendly atmosphere made up for it though...would definitely recommend it for a big group if you're looking for a real dining experience.

We visit Puglia on every trip to New York. This Quirky Italian Restaurant serves very good food and provides some great entertainment in the form of lounge singer Jorge!! His songs will leave you howling!!!
This is one of the very few restaurants in Little Italy that does not have someone out front hawking the fares of the restaurant. It doesn't need to because the food and ambience speak for themselves. The communal seating is intresting and provides another source of entetainment.
The food portions are good sized and always fresh, ditto for the salads. My wife is fond of the Lobster Raviolli and I prefer the mixed platter of Sausage,Veal and Hot and Swet Peppers. The house wine is acceptable.
We have eaten here for over 25 years and have yet to be disappointed. We recommend it to family and friends and they all agree dollar for dollar you can't beat this gem in Little Italy.

I visit Puglia twice a year with a very large group (50+ people) as well as a few times a year for smaller dinners with family and friends (in fact, I was just there tonight). We love the food (especially the garlic bread, chicken parm and pizza) and always have a great time. Jorge amuses us with his songs (like the Napkin Song). The owners (love you, Greg!) and staff are always very gracious and accommodating. We will continue to have lunches there and recommend Puglia to anyone visiting Little Italy. It is a bustling, fun place with great food.

To anyone who hated this restaurant....are you feeling alright? I have been several times for different occasions, birthday celebrations, bachelorette parties, just for dinner and it is probably one of the most enjoyable places to go in the city! The food is good, the service as well! The little man on the casio is great fun. "Get up and Shake your napkin"..what fun!! I don't know anyone who has been there and hasn't wanted to go back! If you are looking for good food, a fun atmosphere and a memorable time I recommend it, in fact we are headed back soon with a group of girls for my future sister in laws bachelorette dinner. GO! You won't regret it. P.S. Not a place for snobs!

Cheap wine, drunk Italians and a singer with a Casio. Puglia is fun, if too loud. The food was overall bland, but the antipasto was excellent. A good place to bring out-of-towners.

If you are going to the city and want some great Italian food, Puglia's is the place to be. I was raised just outside the city and had since moved away. I visited Puglia's for the first time in the ealrly 1980's and have been eating there every time I come home to visit. My children now 11 and 9 know the resturant well and always ask when are we going back. I have proberly been there over 100 time in the past 25 years. And will continue till the day I die. Jorge will entertain you as you enjoy one of the best meals you will ever eat. Puglia's is a great place to have fun and be merry!!!!

Cons: None, None, None

Definitely a favorite. Their Italian bread is divine and frankly, I could go there and just eat a loaf of that and be happy! But their traditional Italian meals are the best. I love their spaghetti and meatballs and lasagna. No frills, but some of the freshest sauces and flavors I've had. They also make their own wines. I recommend the red. Great antipasto too. And Jorge is a lot of fun!

I live in the area and have frequented them twice in the past ten years. After each time I said I would not go back. I recently went because they offered a $25 meal certificate from Restaurant.com. I purchased it because I thought it would be somewhere to go when I just wanted to have a nice cheap meal. Cheap meal it was. Not in terms of price though, which is average. I had the fusilli w/ pesto and my friend had the linguini white clams. Both were very bland and the house wine wasn't good as well. I will definitely not make the mistake again and would rather pay for a good meal than have a cheaper untasty one. Definitely a pass on this one.

I just got through one of the worst meals I've ever eaten. The calamari was oily and rubbery, the stuffed mushrooms were mediocre and my $17.95 shrimp parmigiana was absolutely terrible-- it was barely identifiable as shrimp. Not only was the food bad but it was very taxing to listen to the contrived and repetitive "authentic" "Italian" music. The service was a joke as well (no refills on water during the entire 2 hour meal). The entire experience was completely regrettable and even with a $25 gift certificate from restaurants.com it was a ripoff. I do not reccomend Puglia to anyone.

We have been comming to Puliga's since we got caught in the rain in August 2004. We live in California and our daughter is going to college in the city. We met James, and after we made him smile (he was having a long day) we were hooked. We have been half a dozen times (and we live in California) and everytime we are in the city, we go down to Pulgia's. I love their Vodka Riggatoni Pizza. (If you need some meat, add some meatballs or maybe pepperoni.) We have always had a good time. Their house wine is the BEST!. Will be there again next week. Can't wait to take my Mom!

This restaurant in Little Italy has all the charm of its environment which features an Elvis singer to entertain guests. The breads are hot and tasty, the appetizers quick to arrive and equally delicious and the main dishes are generously proportioned. This is one of the best in Little Italy. Easy to find and charming place.

I've been to Puglia's several times and always have a great time! The food is decent, but the real draw is Jorge who sings Italian classics as well as fun party songs. He gets everyone dancing, especially to "the napkin song"! I always bring out of town guests to this charming, fun, Little Italy destination, and everytime those guests come back to New York, they want to see Jorge again!

It's the BEST!!! I crave Puglia's....it's an addiction. Start drinking the house wine and you'll understand. This place is oozing with good cheesey fun, with an atmosphere that feels as if Tony Soprano could be sitting right next to you. Bring your friends-GO!

Enjoy big crowd fun with dubious, un-labeled wine at this Little Italy favorite, while the resident organ player - Jorge - leads diners in Italian favorites like "Volare" and "That's Amore"... not a place for your important first date, but right-on for a 30+ person birthday party - for sure!

This place has more genuine atmosphere than I've found at other Italian restaurants in the city. My first visit was almost 20 years ago, and I was delighted to find that Puglia was still operating--and still entertaining--when I moved to the area a few years ago. Since then I've been back several times with any number of people, all of whom have fallen in love with the place. At least one visitor keeps asking to be taken back for more. The menu might be a little limited, but the charm (and fast service--those with bad experiences must have come on the same single off night) more than compensates.

Puglia has never ever failed me! I have been there near 10 times and each time have had a memorably hilarious time! The food is - - well - - Food. The service is - well - maybe not white glove - but friendly and festive. (Don't go if your starving - sometimes you will have to wait about 20 mins for your meal...but it will be warm and delish...plus more time for the bread!!!) Its not the BEST Italian you will get in the City - but far from the worst! The bargain house wine does the trick and tastes great! The sing along music demands everyone to let lose and have fun. If you are looking for romantic...exclusive...fancy...quaint, or if you aren't big on socializing and lotsa people - do not even bother - - you will just bring down those that are enjoying it!

If you are looking for romantic...exclusive...fancy...quaint, or if you aren't big on socializing and lotsa people - do not even bother - - you will just bring down those that are enjoying it!

Pros: Fun, Festive., friendly Staff, Sing along!!!!!!!!

Cons: Occasianal long wait, for fun casual types, Not for a first date!

If you go to Puglia looking for the best food in Little Italy you have gone to the wrong place. But if you want to have good table wine and an outrageous time... THIS IS THE PLACE!!! I have been to Puglia on five separate occasions. A few of the highlights have included, whole-restaurant conga lines venturing into the streets, complete strangers grabbing each other and dancing in the middle of the restaurant, whole tables buying each other drinks (just because), and human cartwheels rolling through the aisles. This place is great!!! I try to go every time I am in the city!

Pros: Fun Fun Fun!!!, Great Atmpshere, Great Table Wine

Cons: Food is not great, Can get crowded

Terrible service. I would never go back nor recommend this restaurant to anyone.

My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant last Sunday afternoon. There wasn't a large crowd during this time. We got our table and drinks quickly, and even ordered one of their special pizzas when we got our drinks.

More than 30 minutes had past, we still had no pizza on our table. Their staff was walking back and forth - they can clearly see we didn't get our food yet. My boyfriend had to actually get up and ask our waitress what was going on. She actually left our pizza in the brick oven and had forgotten to serve it to us. No real apologies were made and nothing was done about it. We had already lost our appetite and didn't want the pizza anymore.

We entered the place with a crazy, warm welcome by the dining crowd!!! Everybody was standing up, some of them on their chair, singing to Jorge's songs. It was a Saturday night and the place was packed with "happy people". Might be because of the house wine ($14/bottle). It took us half an hour to get a table but I must admit it was worth waiting for. The food was good, however nothing fancy. However, as an overall experience: DO IT!!!!

Went for a bachelorette party. This was one of the only places who could accommodate our group of 20 on a Sat. night. Fun atmosphere. Friendly service. Good time. More for upbeat party atmosphere than for food, but food wasn't bad. Good value - unlimited beer, wine, soda, family style apps, and choice of entree for a reas. price.

I can't say enough good things about this place. Whether you are going for a birthday party, a bachelorette or for some eats before you head out for a night on the town... this place will get you moving! Jorge (the one man band, singing everything from Elvis to Lauren Hill) gets the entire resturant up on their feet (or on the tables and chairs) swinging napkins to the conga line, you are guaranteed to leave here with a full belly and a smile on your face. The food "hits the spot" and the service is excellent. One final word-- GO (bet anything you will be back for more)!!

My friend and I went out for an afterwork relax 'n catch-up session. We certainly stopped by the right place. The bread really IS to-die-for. I swear I'm going to try it at home.

As the previous reviewer said, the food is basic (I had the lobster ravioli), but still a treat.

There seemed to be a lot of fun going on inside with the karoake session. I'm going to try it next time.
