Went lastnight with my date and it was great! The sliding door when you first come in, is awesome. THe decor is cool and the music is good. I had the classic pork chop with veggies and it was yummy! Great tasting food and even better prices. I highly recommend it.

RECURRENT TIP FRAUD. BEWARE!

We went to dinner at Sea last night and, for the THIRD time, we were tricked and almost paid 40% tip.

This happened three times, twice when my boyfriend and I went and last night (we were five guests).

Last night the waiter added 20% tip on the bill (ILLEGAL for parties of 6 or less!), when the bill came my boyfriend gave them his credit card without looking at the bill. The waiter came back with ONLY the credit card receipt (NO ORIGINAL BILL CAME BACK - which already included 20% tip), and, in the credit card receipt, they had the TIP line once again. My boyfriend asked to see the original bill (they HAVE TO return it with the credit card receipt as you check it to see how much tip to leave etc.) and they reluctantly gave it back to us. We clearly saw that the they had already added the 20% tip.

We asked for an explanation (Illegal + tentative fraud) and the waiter - who spoke perfect English- started to pretend he didn't understand what we were saying.

This happened twice in the past and it also happened to other friends of ours. A couple of years ago there was also an article on Time Out about restaurants that try this scam, SEA was one of them.

The food is unexpensive and good but they really upset us last night, it was NOT a mistake, it's a recurrent behavior and we were tempted to call 311.

If you choose to eat there beware of it, it will certainly happen to you too.

Pros: Unexpensive, okay food

Cons: They ALWAYS try to add the tip and make you pay it twice

My two favorite classic Thai dishes, theTom Yum soup with shrimp: tasteless, lacked the balance of sweet, sour and spiciness that it is usually found in the dish, it had the right ingredients but lacked the Thai essence that really "makes" the soup; the Massaman Curry with chicken: says on the menu "thick sweet and mild curry w/ peanut" however, I found it to be watery, bland and the only peanut flavor were the peanuts themselves - blending of ingredients was lacking. Overall, the food experience was below average in my opinion.

East Village eaters know that two requirements must be met to satisfy its predominantly student residents: great food at affordable prices. Those with tight budgets and an appetite for Thai food will find that Sea Bistro delivers. Those who get satisfaction from paying the lowest for a full meal will find their low prices an absolute steal; a starter and a solid entree will run you about $10 on off peak hours $15 on. I started off with Steamed Pork Dumplings in Peanut sauce. What the dumplings lacked in size (it is a starter after all) it certainly lacked none in taste. The peanut was not too overwhelming allowing the sweetness of the dark sauce to emphasize itself (although fuller taste would've been delivered had the sauce been allowed to infuse better into the dumpling itself rather than just pouring it on top.) As for the entree (Drunkman Noodle), i find it hard to put into words the actual description of the taste, as it contained various peppers I am not familiar with. But I can say that the spicy did not mask the taste of fresh caramalyzed onions and bell peppers. A must for any first time eater at the Bistro. Enjoy. Only neg is subjective: enourmous quantities of European techno. Although i do enjoy it at parties, dining is a different story.

love this place! its cheap and the food is predictable and good everytime. Unlike the last reviewer, I like the drinks. The only downside is its really small inside and you are basically sitting on top of the person next to you.

I found this place a couple of years ago. I've been to both the Manhattan and Williamsburg restaurants. Both have delicious food at a reasonable cost. I must admit, the Williamsburg location is larger, more grandiose and impressive (with a huge Buddha sitting at the end of a indoor pond), but you have to head over to Brooklyn (which ends up being only a short ride on the L train). Either way it is worth it. Its a nice place to take a date for a romantic dinner.. It's a must see!

Good food for little dough. Drinks aren't great, so drink elsewhere. Very cramp place so don't expect roomy dining area. Not authentic, but good decent flavors. Have fun

We went on a Saturday night around 9 and waited only about 15 minutes for a table for four. Although you may have to assert yourself to get a table as the hostess was busy helping bus tables, refilling drinks, etc. Food was high quality with a wide variety. The hot dishes weren't as hot as expected. Drinks were dectnly priced and a nice selection of appetizers and specials. Try the calamari - the sauce is fantastic.

I went to Sea with a couple of coworkers on a Wednesday night. The food was great and the prices were even better. Very cute and cozy and the customer service was really nice. They were a little stingy with the seafood but it didn't take away from the taste of the food. I can't wait to go back again!!

A friend of mine, who is a diehard SoHo fan, put me onto this place. He was absolutely right about it when he said it was good food for reasonable prices. We also didn't have any problems getting seated reasonably quickly when we arrived on a busy Saturday night. All in all - good deal.

Went on a Saturday night for a friend's birthday. They don't seat you until your entire party arrives and there's not much room to wait, so we waited outside for a straggler. The place is crowded but it didn't seem like we or anyone else needed to wait very long. We had six people and they crammed us into a table meant for four, but if they hadn't we would have had to wait longer so it was alright.

Ambiance was above average. It's visually very attractive, and so are the clientele and wait staff. However, the music is loud and it was hard to hear everyone at the table. I didn't have any complaints about the service.

The food was worth it for the price, and drinks are cheap too. It's a good place to bring someone you want to impress because it's very stylish and inexpensive, but not for a first date or a situation where you need to have a conversation.

I went to dinner at Sea on a Tuesday night for some good eats. I have dined here a few times before, and I very much enjoy the food at the affordable prices. However, this past experience was the worst, and I won't return again. As the restaurant was at capacity and with more ppl coming in, the manager had asked us to move to another table, claiming that the table we were seated was "reserved". That's pure BS! Don't expect a comped drink or anything when you oblige either. Secondly, I requested for glasses of water for myself and my partner...and then I had to ask again, from another waiter. After 20 minutes, we finally got our water (water refills were another problem). Lastly, because I only ate half of my dish, I asked for it to be packed. We received the check, paid...and yet no food returned. I asked where was my packed food. The waiter went into the back to look and returned with nothing. He had to ask what I had eaten. (What?!) Honestly, I think my food was sitting w/the other dirty dishes. They managed to find drunk man noodles stuck on the plate and scrape it off into a container. I know we weren't the only ones who had a bad time at Sea. Other instances we observed: (1) Telling a couple who were seated for abt 5-10 minutes that they had to get up from the seats and wait again, b/c one of the waiters had accidentally skipped the other party. Of course no comps for either party, (2) Seating 3 ppl at a 2 ppl table, (3) The manager started patrolling the area, handing out the bills to those who didn't quite finish eating

SEA has become so popular that they've let it go to their heads. It's super-trendy and there's always someone to take that empty seat, so it seems that customer service has been deemed not of the essence. The food is usually good but it certainly isn't a relaxing place to go. After being told that our party of three would be seated in 10 minutes and watching other parties (multiples of 2 and higher) seated for 40 minutes, the three of us were squished into a small 2-person table. And, atlhough tables opened up next to us and we ASKED for a slightly larger space, they left us awkardly seated. Needless to say, I'm never going back and you should be wary too.

This place is really trendi but they have forgotten about the most important part of a
restaurant, the food. The last two times I ordered from here my food was soo spicy that
I could barely eat it, and the spice took away from the flavor of the dish. And the Tom Kha soup was pathetic. If you want good authentic Thai this place is not the place to go.

What a great place. I came into the city to try out this restaurant because a friend had recommended it to my husband. The ambience was so fun, and the prices were great, on top of the fact that the food was really tasty. I wasn't thrilled to have to wait on line for thirty minutes, but I guess that's the price you pay for a popular place. I would definitely recommend SEA if you like thai cuisine!

Delicious food at a great price but do not go here on a cold day and sit by the front door. The red sliding doors may be unique but they do not block off the cold air from the outside. I was with a party of 7 (close but not next the the front doors) and we were eating with our coats on. Too cold to enjoy.

Awful from start to finish. Upon arrival there was not a host in sight which resulted in a couple arriving after us to be seated before us. We were escorted to a table twice and then turned back after losing our seats at the bar. We were subjected to the same CD over and over every 20 minutes. The host offered us 2 free appetizers; but, they were not of our choosing, just plopped down on the table. As for the food, we asked for nothing sweet. The waiter assured us it was spicy not sweet. Every dish from appetizer to soup to volcanic chicken was sickeningly SWEET. Not to mention that they served mushy CANNED peas and carrots in their dishes. This place may be cheap but as far as I wouldn't eat this place again if they were giving it away.

Went there and had a combination of different seafood dishes and appetizers. The food was spicy and delicious. It might have been a little too spicy for my friend, which you can couteract with eat more rice and keeping water on hand. The place is a little tight and on a cold day, the seating by the entranceway can be pretty drafty. The price was extremely reasonable for the appetizers and food we ate. My suggestion is to eat family style because you'll want to try the other dishes.

I didn't expect a good Thai place in the E. Village, but the city is full of surprises, including the fact that it's really inexpensive ($20 for a salad, drink, and entree after tax and tip). The duck salad was on the overcooked side but tasty. The Spicy Dark Ocean was chock full of calamari, but nearly drowned in an overly salty brown sauce. My friends loved the Drunk Man noodles and sweet-ish pad thai. The "All Asian" drink special was as sweet as the lychee floating in the glass. We couldnt understand our servers accent sometimes but overall, with good, inexpensive food, trendy decor and chill music, its not hard to see why Sea was packed on a Tuesday night.

I keep going down to the Sea, again & again, for the unique mix of high-design / minimalist ambiance, electronica music and exceptional Thai food. I usually don't mind loud, crowded spots, but it used to seem literally elbow-to-elbow. They must have removed a few tables when they closed for rennovations over the winter; the extra space helps. The crowd sometimes seems to be uniformly 20 years old... but go in, order pad thai, green coconut milk chicken curry, spring rolls w/ extra peanut sauce and a couple frosty bottles of Singha beer. How do you say "mmmm-good!" in Siamese while groovin' to Massive Attack? Rest an elbow at the small pink-under-lit bar in the rear if you have to wait for a table, instead of hanging on the sidewalk. Sea consistently delivers awesome Thai vittles... and it's a very cool little subterranean spot.

i have to agree it is the best tasting thai food in NYC. Their noodle dishes were perfect, not too saucey and not too dry. they don'd skim on the shrimps either. the Lemongrass chicken was mouthwatering. Portions are just right.
my only complaint is the lighting of the restaurant. ITS WAY TOO DARK!!!!! i hope someone works there read this. we were literally eating blind. i don't understand why it is so dark in there. it is strictly a restaurant, there's no bar. the staff must have bad eyes from working there. in order for us to read our menus, we had to collect candles from other tables. if it wasn't for the food, i would not recommend this place at all.

if you want great thai food, go to sea. remember to go during the day and sit in the front where there's light coming in.

this place has been great since day 1. i live around the corner and haven't had better food, ambiance, quick service, and cheap eats. to the user who only left a $6 tip, you got what you deserve- who the hell do you think you are leaving such a measely tip?? you OBVIOUSLY are not from nyc. please stay at home- you are probably one of those customers who runs the waiter around, complains about everything, orders your entree with 5,000 changes, and then writes a complaint on citysearch. please move away, new yorkers hate 10% tippers like you.

Food wasn't great, but we were having fun until the friend who bought dinner left a $6 tip.

The man who worked there very rudely told her, "the tax was $4! You only left $6! " At first we had no idea what he was saying, and he said it to us twice more, both times rudely and unpleasantly. Okay, so that wasn't a great tip and she probably meant to leave a dollar more, but he's TELLING her to leave more?!?!?!?! We will NOT be going back.

Pros: food, service, value

Walking toward the restaurant I literally expected a hole-in-the wall kind of restaurant. However I found the restaurant catered to hip, but low-key crowd of patrons. I had to get there early to put my name down for the group of 7 that I had. It was a bit confusing at first, but I finally found the waiter/host that told me that it would be a 45-50 minute wait. It turned out to be relatively accurate and my group showed up at about the right time to be seated. Overall, the food was quite tasty and reasonably priced. They offer a few types of beer, wine, and cocktails. Although small, this restaurant serves up quite a nice meal. Check it out if you're on the Lower East Side and are itching for some Thai. Enjoy.

Pros: Food, Reasonable, Location

Cons: Crowded, Long wait

Sea has great food, no doubt about that. BUT, going here depends on what type of restaurant you're looking for. There are waits (no rezzies) which can be annoying, but once you're seated it's quick. Get some sangria and order a $4 appetizer (i love the puffs). Entres are priced at around $7 - $8, specials being around $12. It's a great buy, with quick service but it's NOT romantic. I've had almost everything on the menu; my favorites are the Pad Woon Sen, Drunk Man noodle and Pad Thai.

I have been coming to Sea ever since it opened a couple of years ago. The pad-thai is simply the best in the entire city (trust me, I've tried them all). Ever since I discovered their amazing dishes I haven't found any other restaurant that satisfies my craving for Thai food as completely as Sea.
As further inducement, their prices are so reasonable that you can't afford not to try their food at least once if you are a true Thai-food afficionado. Take it from me, you'll be coming back for more.

We went to Sea Thai because of it's high rating at Citisearch. However, our experience was definitely disappointing. The food is average, too salty and overcooked. Price is reasonable.

Pad Thai here is the BEST I've had! This place is a great value - the food is excellent (been here a bunch of times and have never had anything that wasn't delicious) - the service is great and quite fast!

The ambience is makes for a really enjoyable meal - dim lighting, funky music, candles, and a cozy seating arrangement makes for a great place to have dinner with a group of friends or a date.

MUST try the crispy banana dessert!

This Thai restaurant is not expensive. It has a lot of creative dishes. Like Jumbo Shrimp Fried Rice for one. It is not your usual Thai restaurant. It also has nice romantic ambience.

Miles ahead of most NY Thai food. Tup Tim Fritters are great. Stay away from big ticket entrees, but the noodle dishes are great, as are the basil ones. The fastest delivery in the neighborhood, too. \
