Had lunch here today. Tried the house made hummus and the angus burger with sweet potato fries. Service was pretty quick even though the place was packed with people. Our food arrived pretty fast. The burger was cooked exactly medium rare though I felt the giant brioche bun was slightly over-sized for the small beef patty. The sweet potato fries were perfectly spiced. The hummus wasn't that great.

My boyfriend and I ended up throwing our speakeasy birthday party here on Saturday, when our previous location (a seriously LAME assed bar that shall remain nameless!) fell through at 2:30 that afternoon. I called CRT at around 4pm, after striking out with three other locations. It was important that we found a location that would let us bring in our own DJ setup and decorations, and was also easy to get to. I spoke with Nicole first; I explained the situation and how I was in a bind. She immediately called her manager Chad (she pulled him out of an event that was already in progress), and I explained the situation to him. He said he'd call me back in 10 minutes to let me know. He called me back in 5 and said we were good to go, same deal as we had at the other location. We weren't able to start playing our music until after 10pm, due to the other event going on, but considering that's what time they normally close, we had no issues with that.

Chad and his staff went out of their way to accommodate us in any way they could, even kept the kitchen open an extra hour so people could order food. When it didn't look like we were going to make our bar minimum, he offered to just keep the bar open to the public so that we could count that. He even donned a gangster hat while serving the drinks, and I swear I caught him dancing more than once. :)

I don't know how many times I thanked him that night, but I still think he deserves a few more.

Pros: friendly & accomodating staff, great food

Cons: the feedback in the DJ setup (not the bar's fault tho)

My lady and I found this wonderful restaurant through an AAA tour book. As she used to fish in Croton reservoir, we were intrigued and visited the place after seeing a show.
It was an incredible experience! We sat at the bar for a couple of hours prior to having dinner. While there are multiple small-screen TVs scattered throughout the place, there was no sound, and the music that was playing was in no way intrusive.
We each had the price fixe dinner. I had the salmon, and my lady had the skirt steak. The portions, flavor, and presentation were wonderful beyond belief! The service was excellent, our waiter Chad II was friendly and knowledgeable. We had the homemade cheesecake for dessert and it was a perfect followup to a perfect meal.
The wine choices available complimented our meal and the cost of the meal was unbelievably low given the location.
This is a place not to be missed!

Pros: Excellent food and ambience

Cons: None

We ate here because it was close to where we work. I noticed that the lower area seems nicer and more intimate, but I've only been seated on the top floor. The dining area there is very thin; the person on the aisle will be zoomed by the staff all night. The floor boards shake when they stomp by. But you get used to it. I liked the lighting and ambience...except that the other half of the room, 6 feet away, is a sports bar. The place suffers from a serious identity crisis.

We split the mussells and chorizo app, which were pleasantly surprised to discover was big enough for two. Quite satisfying. But our steaks were ho-hum. I found my Steak Fritte to be a bit chewey. My date's surf and turf was fine. At least the temps were well executed.

The service was helpful, although they rushed us at first. Eventually they left us alone and everything was fine.

Pros: A nice try. Good enough in a pinch. Great seafood app.

Cons: Upstairs seating isn't as good as it appears. Steaks seemed of low quality.

It's rare to find a place that I'm not disappointed with. I've had several meals here and several cocktails and have not been disappointed yet. I've had dinner and drinks upstairs and I've been downstairs at happy hour with my work group. It's real popular with the people I know. I recommend.

This place used to have a great lunch. Now it seems like they can't even be bothered to try. Right through the door and the hostess couldn't pull herself away from doing nothing but lean on her station to greet you. When the food was delivered it was served on burned rolls and buns. The "cabbage slaw" was some of the worst I ever tasted. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Attended their 80s party a few Saturdays ago. Music was fantastic. I had contacted the promoter ahead of time and was able to reserve a table (for free) since it was my friend's birthday party. At first the crowd was a bit odd, but as the night progressed it improved. All in all we had an awesome time.

The simply grilled salmon really does rank up there among the top that NYC restaurants have to offer. Not your typical dry grilled salmon, but juicy and uniquely flavorful. Contrary to these negative reviews, the staff was nice and capable.

I've gone to Croton twice to get the tuna - it is absolutely delicious! Both times I've taken new people with me to try it and everyone has been completely blown away by the dish. The steak is also good, but not memorable. The only disappointment is the wait staff. Both times I had very cold and unattentative waiters (and I believe one time was a manager).

We went for an early supper before a show at MSG; we were greeted warmly, seated promptly at a table by the window. Our waitress brought over the pre-theatre menu when she found out we were going to a show, reccommending it (rightly so) as a good value. The grilled salmon was perfectly cooked, my mom's steak was scrumptious. The portions were ample, the wine list basic but ample, and the decor. The bar crowd looked happy, and well out of their teens.

I first came to this place because I heard of their happy hour specials. It was great. Downstairs was nice and ambiant, good music and great drinks at unheard of prices. I had dinner there a week later and found that not only was the service great, the food was better than most upscale restaurants that I've been to. I definitely will be telling everyone about my find.

Pros: Old New York Feel, Great food/prices, very friendly service

Cons: loud at happy hour, no food after 11

This was a great find. I've worked in the midtown area for years and it needed a place like this. It was recommended by a friend and turned out to have it all. The food was great, the atmosphere is comfortable and the service was even better. It was a busy Friday night during the Holiday Season and the servers had time to say hello and give a complete description of the menu with a smile. Lively and friendly is how I describe it.
I've been back several times and have not been disappointed. Worth the trip.

Pros: Food, Service Staff, Atmosphere

Made reservations here out of convenience of the location. We were seated promptly and treated with friendly attentive service. The food was excellent and everyone enjoyed their meals. The waiter was patient and helpful and very genuine even tho' he wasn't a polished burnt out snob as you find in so many places today. The prices are up there without being over the top but the quality of the food commands it. The atmosphere was that of a better bar/lounge/restaurant, the word Tavern seems to not be fitting.

Looking for a restaurant in midtown that won't break the bank? Try CRT. Excellent food, good selection of beer on tap, and an excellent martini (stirred not shaken - Sorry James Bond!). Thought it would be more crowded on a Saturday night, my only criticism. Hopefully CRT will stick around and continue to grow some loyal followers.

So used to midtown places either being over-priced or just plain nasty. Croton is a welcome breath of fresh air - great atmosphere, lively, friendly and surprise surprise, the food is real restaurant quality and at reasonable prices. We loved it.

A great find in midtown. Exposed brick, wrought iron, beautiful bar and friendly staff made our dinner here very enjoyable. Our server was very familiar with the menu and recommended some great appetizers. Service was prompt, attentive and food was great. We had the Tuna and Rib Eye steak (huge) - as good as any "Steak House" in the city and less $$.
Good wine selection and specialty drinks. Maybe a little too good if you know what I mean...
Highly recommended.

Great fun for after work unwinding - Barfood menu was extensive the hysterical bartenders joked with me and my freinds all night. The place was packed despite the snow and everyone was having a great time - includng the chef who could barely stand. the best place in the neighborhood bar none!

The crabcakes needed some crab. However, the rest of the food was perfect. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The simply grilled salmon was not all that simple and I'm glad for that as it was the best salmon I've ever had. The shrimp cocktail, although pricy at first glance, I realized was worth every penny once it landed on the table (big shrimp).

the good, the bad, the ugly - Bottom line is the food is good, the drinks were a bit weak and the waitstaff needs training. We're supposed to be waited on - not us waiting for them. Staff dissappeared after 2PM and we had to send a search party to find our waitress who was parked at a table upstairs reading a newspaper. Didn't expect that in midtown!

Just had a fine meal there after finding the place here on "Citysearch". Met a date there and was impressed with the selection of scotches, while my date enjoyed the house "CRTini". My steak was delicious and cooked as i ordered it and my date gave the "thumbs up" to her fish. The people there were friendly and efficient.
Most importantly, we were able to get a table without a reservation and still make "Aida" ( a great play imho).

This is a very nice looking and comfortable place. However our waiter told us that the cappuccino machine was broken. Meanwhile another waitress had tables that asked for cappuccinos 10 minutes after we asked for ours - and they got them! My companion went to the bathroom and overheard the waiter singing near the back of the place "The cappuccino machine is broken, It's broken...." as some sort of joke. We asked to speak with a manager but no one ever showed up. In a nutshell this place is unmanaged - the staff's agenda is all that seems to matter. With so many places that hire professional help in this city. Who needs this?

went for dinner last week. Good crowd, nice ambiance. Good looking place all around. Me and my friend split the crab cakes and the lollipop prawns - both were scrumptious. The waitress was prompt most of the time and was knowledgable about what was good on the menu. Dinner was a chicken dish that was great but the portion was small. My friend got the steak which was over cooked a little. But both were loaded with great flavor. The happy hour crowd at the bar was mostly "just out of worker" blowing off steam. Only drawback was the chef who continuously tried to get our phone numbers. Maybe that's why the steak was well? All in all we'd fully reccommend this place for good food and drinks in a great setting in a neighborhood that has not much going on.

My girlfriends and I sampled several of the small plates and found everything to be enjoyable. The staff was friendly and warm. There was a party on the lower level, but that didn't disturb our dining experience. I would recommend this restaurant; a new gem for the city.
