Once a quaint Italian-Argentinean cafe, Sosa Borella has blossomed into a full service New York restaurant featuring lunch, dinner, brunch, delivery service and off premise catering. This New York Italian restaurant has expanded its Argentine infused recipes to include wholesome foods and larger portions while maintaining a great dining atmosphere and personal touch towards the palates of Manhattan's Theater District goers. With a keen design sense, the clean lines give the space an open, airy feel but the dedication to Argentinean Estancia decor shines through with white walls, exposed beams, stucco columns and rich woods. The dress code is "New York" casual, the menu items affordable, staff attentive and wine list extensive. Sosa Borella also offers private party accommodations and New York catering services. For an intimate Italian-Argentinean meal, visit Sosa Borella.
I work nearby, so I go to Sosa at least once a week. It's a great place for business lunches. It's got an unassuming decor, so you feel comfortable sitting there and talking to your mealtime companion. And, the food is delicious. My absolute favorite lunchtime entree is the Americanata - their version of a tuna melt. It is on bread grilled to perfection. But I have also ventured into their salads, pizzas and pasta dishes. Their specials always offer an interesting combination of flavors. I especially like their fritatas. Dinner is also very good with an interesting combination of flavors. And they are very sensitive to get you out on time for the theater.

Be sure to tango into this restaurant which has expanded its menu.
Dining is a different experience here, definitely out of the ordinary. Don't be put off by the ordinary decor (and the less than perfect service). The food is really good and the Italian-Argentinean fusion offers some delightful surprises.

We made plans to visit NYC for our 26th wedding anniversary to attend a Moody Blues concert at Radio City Music Hall. We stayed over night at the Hilton Garden Inn on 48th&8th (highly recommended) so I looked for a place in between the hotel and concert and came across Sosa Borella with good Google reviews. I made reservations for 5PM and wrote to proprietor asking for a quiet table. I got a reply within hours stating that at that time it would be no problem. When we arrived at teh rest. there was a notation about our table and we got a corner table on the 2nd floor - very romantic. The decor is very charming, old floors and nice Argentine wall hangings. Everyone says you go to NYC for a nice dinner and nice show well Sosa Borella did not dissapoint, it is a great dinner spot. The cantaloupe and honeydew cold soup was fabulous for a hot night. My wife had the Spinach Agnolotti with the lamb sauce that she just loved. My strip steak Bife alla Sosa Borella was done to perfection and the chimchurri sauce added interested flavor. The Argentina Pinot wine was excellent. To top it off we shared cheesecake (lite not heavy) with strawberries in raspberry sauce. Our waiter Pedro was very efficient, answered all our questions, and took a great picture that I'm sure we will be looking at in the future remembering our perfect evening at Sosa Borella. We left by 7:00 PM promising to recommend this to our friends.
Pros: Romantic, good service, great food
Cons: None

Stepping on to the patio on a warm summer night felt like leaving midtown and entering a secret place with good service and great food. We started with a jarra de sangria, it was huge and the best I've ever tasted. We tried the salad special- it was wonderful, with roasted apples and gorgonzola cheese. After that and the empanadas, I could barely eat my entree. The steak and halibut special were cooked to perfection. Our waiter was fabulous; not intrusive but always knew when to check on us. I recommend this place if you're looking to impress your date with a magical evening. It worked for me!
Pros: atmosphere, sangria
Cons: none

We decided to sit in the outdoor patio since it was a warm but nice evening. The ambiance of the place is truly amazing especially the patio which is surrounded b buildings of at least ten stories, so you feel like you are litteraly in the middle of the city. The food was great, we started with am appetizer of empanadas which were justthe right size to keep us wanting more. The steak and fish that we ordered were cooked just right, and the mashed potatoes were defenitly some of the best i have ever eaten. We tried the sangria which was was made with just the right amount of fruit so as to make it sweet but not enough to make you feel as though you were drinking juice. All in all a perfect place for a nice romantic dinner. i would defenitly reccomend it to anyone. My girlfriend and I have officially named it "our" restaurant
Pros: Steaks, Snagria, the desserts
Cons: none that i saw

I was taken on a date to this lovely Italian style restaurant. I actually felt like I was in a real Italy setting. Everything was beautiful...and I even saw a movie star!! The lady from S*x in the City was there!!! I was really excited...but the food was amazing, the meat was perfect... the wine was great.. and so was my date.. hope I can come back here again.
Pros: Movie Stars, Wine, and Food
Cons: Nada

Becuase of the positive feedback (and convenient location), I gave this place a couple of tries after the initial debacle - the fish on my salad had gone bad and the waiter seemed to care very little indeed about that. Still, this place was, during my best meal of the 3, painfully mediocre, and I very much hope not to end up here ever again.

I found this place on citysearch. Sosa Borella has the most amazing food. I had the Rosemary Lemon chicken and my date had the Filet Mignon. The tastes were simply amazing. The Salads were delicious. The wine selection was great!
A romantic restaurant for sure. I will be back soon.

I've been going to this one and the one downtown for years. I've never had a bad time there. The wine list is solid. The food is delicious.
Pros: Delicious variety of food. They have a patio upstairs.
Cons: It can get a little noisy.

My wife and I enjoyed our dinner here last evening. We were seated promptly in the plain but charming first floor dining room. The staff was pleasant and we met Mr. Borella who is clearly in charge here. The wine list is fairly priced and highlights Argentine reds and whites. We selected a 2004 Caboa Chardonnay from Mendoza and enjoyed it. Bread is served with a delightful chimichurri sauce, laden with olive oil and parsley. For our entrees I had the Uruguayan grass fed fillet mignon ("lomo") which I loved . It was served with silky mashed potatoes and roasted scallions. The portions were large and the food was delicious. My wife had the special pasta of the evening, a spinach ravioli which she liked. For dessert we had crepes with caramel sauce and dulce de leche. The food and decor are very much like dining in Argentina with lots of grilled meats and Italian dishes. A man dining next to us had the parrillada, a plate of grilled steak, chicken and sausage and it looked big enough for two to share. When we finished our meal, the restaurant was jammed and it is obviously popular with the pre-theater crowd, the restaurant being close to most Broadway theaters. We would definitely return there to dine.
Pros: proximity to theaters, great imported beef, Argentine wines
Cons: needs a little more decor

My friend reccomended this place as she had had lunch there with co-workers. We went for dinner and were seated right away. The food selection was perfect and the wine selection was great. We had the shrimp and tomato bruschetta, which was unbelieveable! Great place to catch up with a friend or take a group!! I love my meal!
Pros: good location, reasonably priced, good service

The scene of the crime for the latest Beastie Boys video, this hidden midtown Italian joint is definitely somewhere to check out. I admonish first timers to enjoy seating on the second floor terrace. Portions are fairly generous and everything is presented well.

A well kept Italian-Argentinian secret in mid-town...delicious food, impressive wine list, inviting atmosphere, reasonable prices, and a wait staff that makes you feel right at home. If you haven't experienced Sosa Borella mid-town, you are missing out. For a truly memorable dining experience, ask to be seated in at one of John's tables...you won't regret it...tell him Carmine and Vincene sent you!!
