Ratings_icons The BEST Mexican in NYC!

KELLY M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,128

Forget, Rosa Mexican (They should be ashamed to call themselves authentic Mexican) and say hello to El Mole! Now, let's get something straight, I was born & raised in the barrio of So Cal(southern California) & I was raised on high quality Mexican food, but Mole is my favorite! The tamales are to die for, especially tamales de rajas con queso (spicy green pepper & cheese) The restaurant is small, but extremely charming and with true Mexicana decor! If you are in Queens, you must try! It's off the 7 train at 46th street. Walk to the south side of Queens Blvd towards 48th Ave.

Ratings_icons Fresh, Delicious Food!

EvaK

I live one block from this wonderful restaurant. The food is cooked to order - and consistently delicious. Go here for fresh eggs, wonderful salads with fresh grilled shrimp, spinach/cheese quesadillas, chicken mole and especially their incredible freshly made juice. A large mixed apple carrot orange juice is $3.

Pros: Freshly prepared food, with freshest ingredients

Cons: small restaurant - can be busy

Ratings_icons Come on, people.

I can understand why people would be charmed by this place. the staff is friendly and very helpful, the atmosphere is perfect for the food and the price. However, this is just another example of bland mexican food New York City style. The guac and salsa were almost tasteless, we actually tried to up the guac with salt and the salsa was made with canned tomatoes, gross. One of my tacos was cold. Not room temperature. Cold. The ingredients went from the fridge directly onto my plate. The cornmeal in the tamale was hard and chewy from being nuked too long. Nothing was quality and it obviously wasn't so fresh. All of this after waiting an hour and 15 after being told it would be 40 minutes with a phone call. No call, then 75 minutes later we literally had to fight other patrons for our table. Spice, please! Fresh clilantro, please! Quality ingredients, please! we'll pay the extra dollar!

Pros: staff, atmosphere

Cons: food

Ratings_icons Authentic MX Restaurant in Queens

NYMex

This is the first authentic Mexican restaurant in Queens that I have found, (and I'm Mexican!). My husband and I come here once a week. The Chicken Enchiladas with salsa verde are great as is the Tinga de Puebla. They also make fresh juice to order (w/ a juicer). Prices are about $10 / plate. You can't go wrong.

Pros: authentic food - worth the wait

Cons: slow staff (even when the restaurant is empty)

Ratings_icons Good MOLE

jemjem9999

Good quick authentic mexican food. I have been there twice with my wife and two kids, we have treid all three enchiladas, the Verddes are excellenet and not too spicy, the red are very spicy and full of flavor and the Mole ones are great also. My kids enjoyed both quesadillas traditionales and sinchronizadas. I lalso tried their Burrito with chicken and mole and it was excelent very juicy and succulent, with lots of mole sauce, which is very good. i would reccomed this place for casual dinning or lunch. They serve no alcohol so bring a bottle or two.

Pros: Good food and authentic

Cons: No Alcohol license, small place

Ratings_icons simple dinner for two on a lazy summer Sunday

De Mole is the place for you. Located on 48th Ave in Sunnyside, Queens. An inviting Mexican eatery that institutes an authentic regional cuisine garnished with hospitality. And an isolated little hideaway that compliments from beginning to end starting you off with their DeMole Roasted Tomato Salsa and fresh tortilla chips. Go with the Ceviche de Veracruz (your choice of scallops or poached fish) for an appetizer. Even though, I prefer a spicier version of this classic appetizer. The mixture of diced tomato, cucumber, onion, avocado, and we mustn?t forget cilantro was pleasantly cradled inside a crunchy tortilla that saved your appetite for the main course.
I chose to go with a mainstay, Enchilades Verdes con Pollo. It was very fresh and tasty and wasn?t as heavy as what you are accustomed too. My best friend chose a more risky venture and gave in to her carnivorous urges ordering the skirt steak, one of the night?s specials. It was cooked to temp accompanied by fresh black beans and fluffy Spanish-style rice. The staff was accustomed to all types of diners and was happy to inquire if everything was alright even suggesting lighter-side items such as the el Mole salad with the Grilled Tiger Shrimp. Detail #1: they dropped off a glass bottle of H2O and eliminated that ever pressing question, ?May I have some more water?? or enduring refills that require countless thank yous. I imagine you can bring your own alcoholic beverages for their bar was lined with soft drinks and juices. As for the decor, the walls were in need of some color. Detail#2: The interior and exterior were adorned with beautiful plants and flowers. If you have an once of wiggly room left don?t hesitate and try the No Way Jose Orange Flan. They also offer breakfast and lunch.

Open Seven days / week 10am-11pm

Take the #7 train and get off at 46th Street.

Pros: plenty of parking

Cons: Decor

Ratings_icons Great Mexican food at very reasonable prices

thewhitetiger

Very cozy place, very small, nicely decorated. The servers are overly friendly, the food comes in large portions, and it has a very home made taste to it. Prices are low, too low, suspiciously low I would say. They dont have a liquor license, so bring your own (no charge there either), and go early, because they close a bit too early for my taste.

Pros: Food taste and quality, price, ambiance

Cons: No liquor license, closes too early

Ratings_icons Best Authentic Mexican Place in Queens, NY

anacrisot

After reading raving reviews of "De Mole" formerly named "El Jarro" on a website, my boyfriend and I took a nice little 20 minute walk there & let me tell you, we were not disappointed. Javier, the host, was so friendly and welcoming & the ambiance was just great. Although the place is small, it is very cozy and
inviting. As for the food, it was very simple in taste yet very authentic and not at all greasy or heavy. It's definetley not your run of the mill Mexican joints like the so many that people go to here. It's a family run business and even the chefs in the kitchen are related. I just hope the quality continues to be the same since it is starting to become very popular.

If ever you so desire to venture out of Manhattan, you MUST take the 7 train to Sunnyside, Queens and get a table at De Mole. I read about it in The Times and took my wife for a late lunch over the weekend. We were very impressed with the friendly service and the incredible authentic Mexican dishes. I recommend the tinga quesadilla! And the best part is the value! This Queens gem will absolutely not break the bank.

Pros: Food, Service, Value
