Love to come here and have hot chocolate. Sounds silly, but they make a mean Hot Chocolate. The food is consistent. The service is consistently bad - but I'm over that for the food and the great atmosphere.

Cons: Long Wait for Brunch

I have been going there out of convenience approx. 4 years. Dining in is ok but carry out or delivery is awful. I have been overcharged 4 times (overcharged as in DOUBLE the listed prices which manager claims doesn't have time to update). The employees are clueless and slow. Once after inviting 6 people to brunch, the waiter asked us to leave so they could seat more people. We were still having tea and coffee and talking. They once charged me $9 for an oatmeal and when I argued there must be a mistake, the girl behind the counter just shrugged. Today was my last day ever going there. I was charged $17 for a salad listed $8.95 and it took 1 hr to deliver as the delivery guy couldn't figure out the buzzer.

On a recent family and friends gathering wth a party of eight, I was so terribly disappointed. We were all excited to go there because we heard how delicious brunch was and how intoxicating the atmosphere was....well that being said, it was true about the beauty, however, brunch may be wonderful as people often tell me....DINNER really sucked....If you are putting tuna on your menu, you really need to know how to prepare and cook it. I felt like I was in a salt mine and I love salt...all eight meals were served with various temperatures. Out of 8 6 of us ordered the tuna, and we ordered it RARE...some were rare, some were totally well done, some were ICE COLD, some were room temperature. When I get a meal I want it HOT and the way I ordered it. This is what we got after waiting an hour to be served and the restaurant was EMPTY. I shudder to think what happens when you have it full. Now to the good stuff....the waiters are lacking in personality and perhaps the english language. I was telling him that the tuna was awful and he kept smiling at me and said and did nothing about it and walked away. YOU NEED TO REEVALUATE IF YOU WANT TO STAY ALIVE........

Cons: worse wait staff ever....dinner foods need HELP!!!!!!!!!!

The food here is really good, especially the miso steak, when it's available. The restaurant itself is such an interesting place to sit and hang out in, especially the back garden. Great place for a date in the evening or Mother's Day brunch. The waitstaff is generally pretty bad and if you want dessert you're wasting your time to ask them...go up front to the pastry case and pick something yourself. Overall I definitely recommend you see this place for yourself, it is pretty damn cool inside.

Well, I usually only eat breakfast type food at this place, so my girlfriend and I usually end up with a bill of only 10 bucks or so...Still, we make sure to tip at least 4 clams every time.(We tip at least 2 bones per person until the 20% portion of the bill gets higher.) Yet, every time we come back, the wait staff treats us like we stiffed them. They not personable at all and it took them 15-20 mins just to get water out to us.(And it was a hot day) The servers treat you like they'd rather you not be there. They are complete amatures. During my meal, they never came to check up on us and I went without water the whole time. Sh*tty service and they don't know what they're doing. Food on the other hand is excellent. Very creative and tasty. That's that. This place would be my favorite restaurant in Carroll Gardens if it wasn't for the service....

I've stopped by Le Petit Cafe a few times to grab a quick coffee to go and kept catching glimpses of their glass roofed garden in the back. I finally had dinner there last week and got to soak up the atmosphere. Le Petit Cafe is all about the cheerful, relaxing atmosphere. The colors are warm and golden so it evokes a sunny day even if it's dreary outside. The music is casual and mixes in with the sounds of the cascading water in the back. Dinner was good and fresh- I had the red snapper which came with a mango salad which was tasty and light. Having stopped by quickly in the daytime, it was nice to have dinner and get a better feel for the surroundings. I'd like to come back on a lazy Sunday to sip coffee underneath the atrium in the garden.

I've been to Le Petit Cafe a few times and I have to say that I'm absolutely in love with this place. From the outside, it looks like a small coffee shop, but once you go inside and out to the garden area there's much more room and it's so beautiful! I'm amazed every single time. The food is very good too and inexpensive although it does take a while before it gets served. Friendly and pleasant staff. I would highly recommend this place to anyone-- from those looking for a date spot all the way to those looking for just a place to grab a cup of coffee and pastry.

Pros: beautiful place, inexpensive good food

Pros-The atmosphere is amazing.... end of story. Tommy , the owner has poured his heart and soul into this place and it shows. The fountains and landscaping make it worth going to if for no other reason at all. It is very beautiful and a great spot to go on a date or just to read the newspaper and have a coffee. The prices are decent as well and I think you get what you pay for. The food is pretty good. It?s not great or the best but its pretty good. Now for the cons- the service is not good at all. I am going to try to offer constructive criticism rather than just be rude but it is true. The service is actually bad more often than it is decent or good. There are 2 issues here. First is the wait staff. They are young and inexperienced. Tommy means well but to be quite honest he should hire older more "professional" (for lack of a better word) wait staff. The 2nd issue is that the kitchen is too small for the amount of business that they get on a regular basis. This is not really an opinion, but rather a fact. As for people saying that the owner was rude, to be honest I am not surprised, although he should know better. Acknowledging your faults and handling them the right way would stop people from reviewing it as a place that they wouldn?t return to. Rather then get defensive or nasty, they should apologize and try to make it better. Overall it is surely worth going to for the food and the atmosphere and if you have a bad experience, give it another try or two. I have been there a million times and they have their good days and bad. Despite issues with service or speed I like the place...enough that I keep going back.

My husband and I went for brunch on Sunday for our second visit to Le Petit Cafe, and were again disappointed with the lack of service. We waited for 15-20 minutes and were never acknowledged -- not even by the owner! We finally had to seat ourselves when a table opened up. Our waiter did his best to take care of us, but the wait staff is spread so thin. Our coffee was never filled and my husband's pancakes were served without butter or syrup.

I put much of the blame on the ownership. It seems that much of the waitstaff is making an effort, but ownership is either too disorganized or too cheap to add servers.

The food is wonderful and the atmosphere is great, but the service is bad enough for me to go elsewhere for brunch. We won't be back until they improve service.

My first 2 visits to Le Petit were disappointing (hence my last review). I recently went back to see if things had changed - mostly because I was craving one of their fabulous paninis. It seems as though someone at Le Petit has been paying attention to the reviews! Service has really picked up. We were acknowledged when we walked in, received attentive and polite service, didn't wait too long for our food, and were given eye contact and a "thank you" by everyone (from the waitress, to the cooks, to the cashier) on our way out. I've been back 3 times since - for both bruch and dinner. Things at Le Petit are really looking up!

This is an adorable place--the atmosphere is really wonderful. BUT, the service is really, really bad. I went for brunch with a friend, and it took a half an hour before anyone took our order (after waiting fifteen minutes to be seated). Then, it took an HOUR for our food to come. If you have all the time in the world, and aren't very hungry or thirsty, it might be fun. But make sure you're not in a rush, because they will keep you waiting, probably without even water. ...oh, and when our food came, they got the order wrong--I had ordered eggs with mushrooms, bacon and brie, and there were no mushrooms in my food. ...but I'm a pushover for atmosphere, and the space itself is beautiful.

I have been to Le Petit a few times and have always come back ranting and raving. Their food is different than most places, in a very good way. There are many healthy, and super delicious options to chose from and you absolutely cannot beat the prices. Not only is the food inexpensively fantastic, the decor is beautiful. The space is small, but its like you are eating in a garden or greenhouse. It is truely a space you must see. It is a great place to go for an intimate setting, so don't go in a group. Also DO NOT GO if you plan on getting "a quick bite to eat" b/c chances are you wont get out in time (seems like they have limited wait staff on hand). However, its a great place to go with a date, or a few close friends. From what I hear brunch is second to none! Do yourself a favor and try out this hidden gem. I promise you will not be disapointed!

I couldn't agree more with famouslinnet's review below. In fact, after I told of my recent experience, the friend who introduced me to the place exclaimed she knew exactly what I was talking about because HER most recent visit was equally horrible. Weeks ago, a friend and I ordered simple brunch food, and after 30 minutes of waiting asked if our order had been forgotten. We were assured not. So, there was no excuse for waiting another 30 minutes after which the waitress said absently that the kitchen was just busy. Well, we waited another 30 mins (now 1.5 hours) and we had only received our drinks! Meanwhile, other groups arrived, ate, and left. We asked the waitress where our order was, and she asked "what did you order?". At that point, we knew there was no way our order ever went to the kitchen and they hadn't even started making it. We decided to pay for our drinks and leave, extremely fed up. Doing what anyone should do, we alerted the hostess and explained our disappointment. The response? She said that we were the only table that had been waiting and the kitchen was very small. She could have easily just apologized but instead gave excuses. Did the rudeness stop there? NO. It went on to the owner who was equally rude and said very loudly as we were paying for our drinks (which any good establishment wouldn't even make us pay for the poor service!), "I wanna get them outta here" (as if we were the reason for their failures). Again, he made the same excuses and blamed a small kitchen. Sorry, but if the kitchen is too small for the business, that is NOT our problem. In addition, he blamed us for being the only table with this problem. On our way out, we could hear him mutter, "It's a mess in here". No kidding. NOT ONCE did any one of them offer a simple apology. Save your time and money and go elsewhere across the street. That's what we did. Lovely service and waiters are there that deserve your business.

I was so excited to eat here today after walking by almost daily for a few months. The hostess was really nice and kept us updated on out seating status. Only about 10 minutes or so on a lovely Sunday, not bad. Then it went downhill fast. After being seated we waited at least 20 minutes to get a half-filled plastic cup full of water and were told sometime thereafter that they were out of the lemonade. We changed our order to orange juice (they display fresh squeezed oj outside on a lovely cart) and waited another 5-7 min before our gruff waitress informed us that they were out of that too...the woman who makes it was just too busy. We ordered our food. I am allergic to cow's milk and asked to sub goat cheese on my meal...we waited, and waited, and waited. After waiting about 45-50 min I finally went inside to use the bathroom and inquire about our meal. It hadn't been made yet. Everyone around us (ordering after us) seemed to be eating. The waitress didn't seem to think it was odd to wait so long so I went back to the table. About 5 min later our food arrived...mine with cheddar cheese all over it. So of course I had to send it back and wait even longer. The food was mediocre. When we finally got our bill there was an extra $2 charge for subbing goat cheese. We paid our bill and on the way out I decided I really wanted to tell the owner how disappointed I was in our service. All he had to do to win me over was apologize and I would have probably given them another chance at some point. Instead he apparently knew I was the one who sent my food back b/c of the goat cheese and immediately berated me for even asking about the $2 charge. He continued to say rude things to me and gruffly told me to "have a nice day" as he walked away. Please think twice before you spend your money here. There are plenty of amazing small businesses to support!

Let me start by asking this question: What restaurant doen't have EGGS during brunch on a Saturday? Set aside the fact that there is a bodega next door that sells eggs and they should have gone an gotten some - don't wait until everyone else is served their food and eating (about an hour after arriving) to come out and tell the person who is there for their birthday brunch that they are out of eggs and can't have an omelet. Then forget to bring out a menu so that they can pick something else. Then make us chase them down ten minutes later to get a menu. This is the kicker - they then screwed up his order and gave him the wrong entree. Besides being out of eggs, they were out of most of the white wines and hollandaise sauce, so my first choices for brunch were out the window. The two waitress who initially were waiting on us disappeared. Instead of spending all their time making the place look nice (which is does) they should stop spending money on decorations and spend it on some food and decent waitresses so they can actually serve people, you know, food or something. It's just too frustrating to be bothered with the place.

Pros: Pretty decor

Cons: Worst service ever.

We went recently for brunch, on a very hot and humid day. Although we did have to wait a few minutes, and no one working there seemed to be organized in terms of a wait list, it was all worth it. The garden is beautiful and peaceful, it was so refreshing given the weather. I didn't want to leave! The food was delicious. I agree that the wait staff wasn't very friendly, but the service was adequate and our food arrived without too much of a wait. I'm looking forward to going back.

the service that is...the waitress gives you dirty looks if you ask if you can sit down since there is never anyone there greet you or make eye contact with. Today i tried (again) to get delivery but their first number listed on their to go menu is STILL busy as i write this (it's been 2 hours and 15 min) their second number just keeps on ringing. I have to admit that their decor and ambience is above par compared to other cafes in the area but if the owner only puts time and effort into the aesthetics and not in the service then maybe he should be an interior decorator and not in the SERVICE industry.

I must say...This place should be cloned and placed in every neiborhood! I entertain business associates friends and family at Le Petit. The decor is breath taking. Everything from an indoor train, murals, fireplace, jewelry by local artists...The owner is there everyday and the food is GREAT! The servings are large, I mean you get your money's worth and then some. A sure tourists site! My friends are amazed and it becomes the "favorite" brooklyn spot every time!!! Horray for style, service and Fabulous Brooklyn!

Ive been going there for 3 years now and have had really great experiences there and a few bad ones as well. The Service can be slow at time and there is typically a wait but, the breakfasts are some of the best in the area. Even simple items like scramble eggs and home fries are wonderful. The menu and the place itself have been created with an attention to detail and subtle flair that make this place so popular. Over the years they have gone from being a small cafe with a few tables to a restaurant with a beautiful outdoor seating area and a full wine and food menu. I go fairly often and am rarely disappointed. I do occasionally find the wait to be too long and go elsewhere.

The service. Never the waitress while you dine in, she is amazing. I placed an order for take out... requested certain items eliminated from my sandwhich. They proceeded to pour my soups first and have them sit on the counter for over 10 minutes while waiting for my sanwhiches. After confronting the counter clerck he assured me the soups would stay warm as long as I wasn't walking 20 minutes to my destination. I arrived home realized that they put all the ingredients I didn't want. I went back (with my cold soups) They said they would have to make me another dish since they couldn't scrape off the unwanted ingredients. OF COURSE! WHAT DID THEY THINK? Didn't even offer to get me new soups. Another day I placed a delivery order. I live 2 blocks away. Took over 45 minutes the food was cold.

not only did my friends and i wait approx an hour and a half for omelettes, we were berated and belittled by the owner (manager?) when we brought this to his attention. our server was surly and unresponsive, and we were told the situation was our fault because we hadn't just left. they continue to expand their garden space, w/out expanding their kitchen and cannot provide even adequate service. the food's not worth it, especially when it comes cold, or you don't have silverware, syrup, coffee...or anything else you may need to mildly enjoy.

This eclectic Carroll Gardens restaurant has an outdoor garden, complete with fountains and huge-trunk trees and artwork, which makes it well worth a visit. And the weekend brunch---think eggs Florentine overflowing with hollandaise sauce,…
