i bought a dress for $1200 from Alice. I found the same dress for a third of the price in other stores. the owner is very moody and forces her opinion on you. She mistreated me and yelled at me many times if I differed in opinion with her.

Forget David's Bridal. Yes, there are other boutiques in Brooklyn but none of the owners/employees there had the experience, warmth, and professionalism of Alice. She is fabulous. She is the only one who actually tells you what will

I am honestly floored by the negative reviews. I'll tell you exactly why they don't give you the designer's name:
#1 - They don't have to. A Sku # is more then enough as they note it in their book.
#2 - They, as many retailers know a customer who is trying to scam THEM is wasting their time by trying it on, visiting the dress, trying to copy it by bringing a seamstress to the store, and wasting their time, WHILE searching for a better price on the internet.
What people clearly do not understand is that those websites that can carry a dress for less, are usually buying large volume like a department store, so they get a better wholesale price. If you knew anything about a small business/boutique, you'd understand they are competing w/the department store giants and thus, not trying to rip people off, but barely marking up from the wholesale...which BTW, if you're so smart, are you aware that most retailers work on a 65-80% mark-up?? And I know this FOR A FACT because I have worked in the wholesale/retail industry w/giants like Target, department stores, and specialty stores to know this.
In addition, if you watch "Say Yes to the Dress," Kleinfelds only allows a person to view 5 dresses before they consider the bride - unmanageable and in fact, don't allow you to walk around and pursue their selection...so yes actually, they would not give you info or even let you see a huge variety.
Every store has the right to handle the business themselves.
If you think a salesperson/manager/owner is lying - be smart and don't buy it. Fact is, bridal dresses and headpieces require a long leadtime (4-6 months) which most places will tell you up front. I also know this because I worked in the bridal industry, so I am not making this up. I have been to this store so many times for my wedding, gifts, showers, communion, and baptism and NEVER had a problem. Bridezilla reviewer below?? Think so.

After reading the negative reviews below, I'm shocked. I had a completely different experience at Sposabella. The ladies at the store were sweet. After ordering my dress in the summer I didn't need to go back until February for my first fitting. But I couldn't get enough of the store. I took two of my bridesmaids with me, we sat and chatted with Alice for almost an hour - just because. I didn't need anything. We just sat, talked about her past celebrity clients, and she even showed us pictures. Now that the wedding is over I want an excuse to go back!

My first experience at the store was delightful. It?s nothing like Kleinfeld ? I?ll tell you about that experience on their Citysearch listing. Sposabella is a small shop, nothing fancy, but you?ll find lots of things if you take your time. As soon as I walked in I saw these lush, lace Pronovias dresses. They were just taken out of the box having arrived seconds before I did. My cousin was in the store when the 2008 line was delivered ? in summer 2007. It was fate. I tried on three of them and the third was the charm! At the time I placed the order not many shops in NY carried Pronovias dresses. I was tired of searching. Sposabella was my last try in NY before heading to NJ to look some more. I was so happy to not have to search further.

The prices are fair as well. I went to Bridal Reflections in Long Island first. Their dresses start at $5,000. I won?t even mention Kleinfeld?s prices. I purchased my veil at Sposabella for less than $300. I could have gotten the longer veil that matches the dress exactly but Alice said that it was unnecessary to do so at $600. She was right. Everyone kept complimenting my veil at the wedding. So I kept it on for most of the reception! I regret not getting my headpiece there. Don?t get me wrong, my headpiece was gorgeous but I feel like I might have spent too much on it. I paid $400 for a huge floral comb. Sposabella had similar pieces for about $280.

Cons: Nothing!

I called in advance seeking a specific dress which they confirmed they had. Once I made the 90 minute trek they had some trouble finding the dress, but finally were able to as it was mis-filed. I did not like the dress as much as I thought and they suggested I try on others. Of 3 others I tried on, 1 was absolutely gorgeous and when I asked the consultant, Theresa, who the designer was she assured me she'd write it down for me. Once I got downstairs I asked again for the designer and they still wouldn't tell me claiming they'd put it down in their book. I explained 2 other locations, one also in New York, had written down the designers and even styles of all dresses I've tried on and I even showed them the lists they had given me as proof. They first said it was their policy not to tell me, but I did not see this written anywhere and the fact that they were so rude to me was very surprising. Then after I explained I called them looking for a designer and they confirmed, it was essentially the same thing I was asking. Next, I asked the other consultant (possibly the owner) who the designer was and she replied in a nasty tone, "I dont know who makes that dress." Finally, they changed their story said it was a private label and couldn't disclose. In the future, how could I ever compare, or ask for a specific dress if I didn't know the style or at least who made it? For some reason, they could not see this logic which bewildered me and my friend who was also with me. By withholding this information, they ultimately hurt this sale. Also, legally, there could be implications if they were an unauthorized dealer of that designer, which is to be suspected. They tired to say Kleinfeld would have done the same thing, but I watch "Say Yes to the Dress" and they always disclose the designer and this is on national TV. Beware of this store; it was my worst dress search experience yet and even message boards on theknot said this situation was very bizarre.

Pros: They had some lovely designers

Cons: Lack of customer service and ambiguous policies; dingy, crowded interior

This store might have everything needed for a wedding but they are wayyyy over priced. I felt like I was being tricked and kind of pressured into buying my gown from there (The owner, Alice, is very sneaky). I ended up buying my gown, and I really love it, but I was able to find it at other places for almost half the price! Too bad I rushed into it, otherwise i would have definately gone elsewhere. If you dont care to spend almost double the price then this place is for you.
i agree with quetee02. they would never tell me the designer of my gown. all she did was write down the number on my receipt. luckily, i was able to find it online for more than HALF OFF!!! but it was too late, i couldnt bargain down the price. they are also very sneaky in payment. they okay putting the deposit, which is half the total on credit card, but they never mention that on pick up of the dress it must be paid in CASH!!! who the hell carries $1,000 in their pocket? i felt that the transaction was done in a very unprofessional way and i totally regret ever walking into that bridal store.
on top of that, after my wedding i sent the dress to the cleaners, where they looked for the cleaning instructions. guess what.... IT WASNT THERE!!! they rip off any tags so that you think all their gowns are 'exclusive'. now i am screwed cuz i have no idea how to clean my gown. usually dry cleaning is the method, but the cleaners told me the pins on my gown would have to be removed and re-sewn - totally ruining the style of the dress!!
if you walk in and speak to a short, blond spanish lady who claims she is just a worker - DO NOT BELIEVE HER!!! SHE ISSSS THE OWNER!!! she lied to us about that and once the sale was made she admitted she was the owner.
To begin with, i would not even bother walking into that store. All my friends who are getting married are warned right away to NEVER step foot into that store!

This place is the best. I had my prom dressed made here in 2002. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. I gave them a picture of what I wanted and they actually customed designed the dress to fit my body. The best part is the made my dress within three weeks before the prom and I only paid 600.00. Everyone that saw the dressed said I looked like I was getting married. I can't wait to go back to have my wedding dressed made. I brought all my accesories from them also and they were so cheap. I LOVE THIS PLACE.
