Recently 7 of my friends and I ate @ Lumi. We had carefully selected this restaurant earlier in the day. My friend & I reviewed the menu to make sure everyone's needs would be accounted for. We were shown the "Private Room " upstairs (reached by spiral staircase) & we spoke with the owner to make sure a 9:00 seating would not be a problem. This was not to be the case. When we arrived promptly @ 9:00, our table was not ready, there was a large party celebrating upstairs (almost done) & a couple in the corner (who's romantic evening was soon to be halted-thanks to the clumsiness of the wait staff). They sat our party @ a round table which was fit for 5-6 adults (not 8). Although the appetizers were delicious (calamari, salad) the scallop dish for $27.50, was more like an appetizer than a entree. We were given abt. 3 scallops & abt 6 artichokes on our plates (3 of us ordered this dish). Obviously they did not have enough scallops for all of us & should have admitted this. One in our party was not quite finished w/ her dish & kept being "hounded " by the wait staff who were hanging by the table & asking every 2 min. whether she was done, when she obviously wasn't (half of her food was still left). Somebody needs to inform these people that you never leave a lady eating alone-you leave the plates even if others are finished. He also started tapping a vase nearby w/ his nail. When the bill was paid (in cash) no change was given-another bad assumption on their part. I am sorry to say that this restaurant did not live up to their appearance nor was I in the least bit impressed w/ their service. In addition, a restaurant of this size should have more than 1 toilet for their customers.

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Lumi after spending a good part of the day at the Whitney Museum. The waitstaff was very attentive but unobtrusive. We ordered what could be the best steamed mussels I've ever had. The best part is the gluten-free menu. My sister has a gluten allergy, so it's nice to know there's a nice restaurant I can surprise her with where she isn't limited to only one or two choices.

I chose this restaurant to go to for an early New Year's Eve dinner because they offer a gluten-free menu, and one of my best friends has Celiac's Disease, so although the choices are limited here in the city with restaurants that offer a gluten-free menu, the choice was easy, and all of us could not have been happier with the decision.
The establishment itself is one of a cozy environment, and that night the restaurant was decorated beautifully.
The staff was so accomodating to each and everyone of our needs. The food was great! My friend who ordered from the gluten-free menu had such a delicious meal prepared for her. Not only was she thrilled, but I as well. I am so happy that now we have a place to go to that she can eat and enjoy the food just as much as I do.

I visited Lumi w/ a group of friends-it was a memorable experience for all of us. When we arrived, the place was bustling + we needed a table for 7 yet the manager was remarkably accommodating. We had cocktails at the bar (the Gladiatore martini was delicious), and in a few minutes our table was ready. The manager sat us at a round table and service was very attentive. I had a pasta for appetizer - home made ravioli with ricotta and spinach, and it was surprisingly tasty. For my main course I tried the Osso Bucco and it was marvelous: tender, succulent and full of flavor - one of the best I've had. We went outside for coffee and cigarettes in a lovely outdoor cafe, and wrapped our dinner up with some grappa and muscat with home made biscotti. I'm definitely going back for more.

Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere

It was quite delightful to find this charming Tuscan-influenced restaurant on the Upper East Side amongst its pretentious neighbourhood restaurants, with its unique cuisine and an elegant ambiance. The upstairs dining room is particularly romantic with comfortable bunkets and seductive lighting. For appetizers, try the delicate baby artichoke salad and for main course, try the whole roasted striped bass, which is cooked to perfection and can be served whole or filleted. Magnifico Lumi!

This is a solid little place in a really cool neighborhood. Salads were delicious (the frisee with gorgonzola and baby artichokes with parmesan were the best) and the entrees (salmon, lamb shank and cavatelli with sausage) were great! Service was friendly and efficient too. Just one caution: Review your bill. We ordered wine that was clearly listed at $39 a bottle on the Wine List but, when the bill came, they showed it at $41. When pointed out, the correction was made, no problem. All in all, an enjoyable meal in a comfortable place!

The classy atmosphere makes Lumi a good place to eat out with an intimate group of friends. You'll enjoy the Tuscan dishes including pastas, risottos, fish, chicken and other meat dishes. There's also a gluten-free menu, as well as many…
