I love going to bakeries and Amy's Bread is definitely one of my favorites. They have a great selection of breads, sandwiches, salads, soup, cookies and cakes. I like too many things to list them all! But of particular note are their grilled cheese sandwich, bread twists and home-made cakes. Definitely stop by!

I have been to this store several times to pick up breads for sandwiches or for dinner. The staff is always so helpful and friendly. They even offer to slice the bread for you according to how youre going to use it. Once they even took the time to do this for my 85 cent ciabatta. Now thats nice! Plus they are not much more expensive than the grocery store, and their bread is 100 times better.

Pros: Delicious Cupcake

Cons: They don't always have Red Velvet Cupcakes

Great baked goods, I'm addicted to the Cherry Cream Scones, even though I think it;s overpriced, I along with half of the westside of Manhattan keep going back ???

I went there to try their cupcakes and they were really good. I think they were better than Magnolia's because their cake was mosre moist and buttery versus Magnolia's dry cake. The were also of perfect size...not to big and not to small. I recommend their cupcakes anyday.

the first time i went to amy's i had a plum and oat quickbread, which was tasty but overpriced. i wouldn't order a latte to go because it was mostly foam and hardly any coffee. i finished it by the time i walked to the subway, which isn't a very far walk. trust me, i was shocked when i opened my cup to find it filled 3/4 of the way with foam. the real deal at amy's bread are the breakfast specials. i had the parisian. half a loaf of delicious french bread with jam and a cafe au lait. it was only $5 ($3.25 if you get a regular coffee). the sweets seemed overpriced, and i'd probably go to the patisserie one block up 9th. they looked tastier and cheaper.

I mean...it's okay. I don't see the hype. The food is fresh and tasty, but waaaayyyy overpriced! $2.25 for a tiny cookie? And I mean TINY! I know it's good quality but come on...it's flour and sugar!

I was very disappointed with Amy's Bread. I purchased a loaf of bread I realized was rock hard as soon as I got in the cab. I wouldn't/couldn't have fed that bread to ducks in Central Park. I had also gotten a red velvet cupcake that was mediocore. it made me wish I had gone to Crumbs uptown. Amy needs to go back to culinary school.

I finally tried the cupcakes today, the red velvet ones with white frosting. They were very good. Better than the "famous" other cupcakes in the City. The cake was just the right texture and the frosting was not too sweet, light and fresh. I have only tried the dinner rolls, they have a nice flavor. Everything looks so good; the sandwiches and the other breads too. The staff is always nice and accomodating.

Unfortunately, although I enjoy the goods at Amy's Bread, I find the experience disquieting and unsatisfactory. The space is cramped and on most occasions the staff is unfriendly on bad days and barely attentive on good ones. On my last visit a gentleman ahead of me ordered a piece of the delicious Coconut Cake ($4.25 / recommended) and I ordered a piece of the Devil's Food Cake (also $4.25 / not great). I was served a portion 1/3 the size of the Coconut. For $4.25, I expect the portions to be equally large (or small as the case may be, but equal nonetheless). This is same kind of experience I continue to have at Amy's. But hey, the goods are better than Starbuck's, even if you can't find a place to sit down at Amy's.

Small shop (cramped if you want ot "lunch-in"), but the bread is fantastic! Not recommended for large quantities (or you should put it in the freezer if possible) but more for daily consumption. Great small breads for kids-lunch boxes.

Amy's Bread is small and often crowded, but that won?t surprise you once you taste their cookies, they are moist and chewy, what cookies should be. Don?t be surprised by the overcrowded feel or the sometimes-hurried nature of the staff, lines form quickly and the staff does its best to get everyone moving. The olive bread is a delicious treat, as are the bread twists. I can?t recommend them enough. I assure you, you will because a regular patron.

Located inside Chelsea Market, Amy's Bread is one of the better bakeries in the city. You'll find all types of bread here, from organic, to whole wheat, to breads made from semolina. The focaccias are very good too.

a culinary friend introduced me to amy's bread. it was warm in there, but uh...it's a bakery. hello?? i know; talk baked goods, not climate. i lugged bags home and gorged, in the privacy of my own home, a couple of chocolate twists, sourdough bread, a black olive twist, a cinnamon raisin twist, and my favorite...a half dozen ginger snaps. yea! there's something about ginger snaps in autumn. it's as though you're consuming the season in sweetness.

the goods were fresh, flavorful and reasonably priced.

the bakery was packed during that particular weekday afternoon, and as i struggled to pass through well-jacketed baked gooders and escape out the door, i knew i would return...for those cheese biscuits i have yet to delight in. enjoy....

My husband and I ate breakfast at Amy's Bread just about every morning on our vacation in NYC in July of 2003. The sticky buns and cheese biscuits are the best I have ever had!
