My 8 yr old minpin has seen both Dr. Kross and Dr. Burya, both are fantastic, warm and professional vets. I never felt rushed or talked down to, as I did at Heart of Chelsea. HOC was right in my neighborhood but I just couldn't withstand one more appointment where the doctors would go on and on in their egotistcal rants about what they think the problem is, without asking or listening to what I had to say. At Rivergate, you feel right away that they are compassionate to the animals and deeply concerned about what the problems are. They ask many questions about the wellbeing of your pet, and if they don't fully understand, they make sure to get as many details as possible. This is what a routine procedure should be like - thorough. Unlike HOC where they rattle off a few opinions and leave the room, only to send in a vet-tech to do some bloodwork. As far as fees go, it is about the same everywhere in the city. But during my recent visit with Dr. Burya, she even clipped my dogs nails to make sure there is nothing stuck between his paws - without charge. She gave him the most complete checkup I have ever witnessed with my dog in the 8 yrs I've had him. Highly, highly recommend this hospital.

Pros: Warm, kind doctors who listen to both pet and owner.

Dr. Burya is one of the best doctors I have ever seen. She is very patient and professional. I highly recommend her to anyone who want a real doctor, not a fancy vet ripping you off

Cons: not fancy (for people who care about this things)

I love rivergate clinic. This vet took very good care of my puppy. I was a little put off by her bedside manner, though. She was a little condescending but her recommendations and advice were good. I would go back to her for her medical opinion.

Pros: knows what she is talking about

I travel 30 blocks to bring my puupy to Dr Kross. The service is exceptional. The staff is friendly and organized and loves animals. Dr Kross is kind and easy going. When I picked up my dog after surgery (neutering) he was not overly sedated or sick at all. Your pet will get really great treatment at Rivergate. I highly recommend Dr Kross.

Pros: Exceptional all around care

Cons: There is only one Dr Kross

I love going to Rivergate. Kim at the front desk is nice and knows all my pets by name. I usually see Dr. Erin Burya or Dr. Peter Kross and I find them both excellent. They listen to and understand my concerns. For example, I am concerned about giving my pets too many vaccinations. Dr. Burya patiently went over my pets risks and offered me vaccine titers instead.

My only complaint about Rivergate Veterinary Clinic is that it isn't in my own immediate neighborhood. Still, as much as possible, I take a taxi or bus to get there. I haven't known Dr. Burya as long as I have known Dr. Kross but I've always found her to be kind, caring, knowledgable, and professional. She has had to fill in to take care of my dogs or cats, and, always has done a wonderful job. The support staff are top knotch caring professionals too. As a pet care professional, I have visited a number of veterinary facilities in Manhattan with clients' dogs and/or cats, and, the fees at Rivergate are completely in line with or lower than many other comparable facilities. Dr. Kross is personally responsible for saving the lives of or enhancing the quality of the lives of three of my own dogs, several rescues, and five of my own cats and numerous others I brought into rescue over the years. I can't think of another veterinary service I would have trusted to do the dental work on my twenty-year-old Maltese dog.

Pros: Appointments scheduled to avoid long periods in the waiting room; experienced, professional veterinarians, technicians, and front desk staff.

Cons: Not an emergency hospital.

My dog was a patient of Dr. Kross, whom I found to be a caring vet.
Recently, however, after making an appointment to see Dr. Kross, I arrived to find Dr. Burya taking over the appoinment. I was not informed of the switch, but I went ahead with the appoinment as I was leaving town and putting my pooch in the care of my mom and wanted to give him a thorough exam.

While overseas, my dog developed a little constipation. My mom took him into Rivergate and Dr. Burya was there. She suggested and x-ray. When my mom declined and asked that my pooch be given a small enema, my dog was whisked away and my mom was told to return in 3-4 hours. She called me, concerned, because Dr. Burya had told her the charge would be $120 (including a 'boarding fee' for 3 hours!) The last time my dog had an enema (at another midtown vet) the charge was $20.

I phoned from Europe to speak with Dr. Burya. I asked her about the charges, especially the 'boarding fee.' She said 'Well, we have to keep your dog - we're busy and can't do the procedure right away.' She was charging me a boarding fee because SHE was too busy to do the procedure!
I found Dr. Burya's attitude to be histrionic, uncooperative and unprofessional. She was quite upset at my simple question and told me to have my mother 'come immediately and pick up the dog.' When I asked if she had done the procedure she muttered 'Um..yeah. Nothing much happened.'
She said she would not charge me under the circumstances. Low and behold, I received a bill from Rivergate a week later for $120 for the procedure that may or may not have been done. Also, there was an erroneous additional charge on the bill for heartworm medication which my dog is not and has never been prescribed.
As of this date, the billing person refuses to remove these charges.
This situation is unfortunate because I did like Dr. Kross, but Dr. Burya has sullied my associaion with Rivergate. And I am still working to get the billing situation resolved.

Dr. Kross is a truly exceptional veterinarian. He is very patient and kind, and he is wonderful with animals, even my fiesty and highly resistant kitten! The staff is also very friendly and professional. Even the waiting room experience is pleasant- the other clients and the staff have created an atmosphere of community that is lacking in other vet clinics I've been to in the city. I would highly recommend Dr. Kross and Rivergate to anyone who is looking for a good vet.

This is an amazing vet. office. Everyone there is kind and genuinely caring and concerned. I have worked with both Dr. kross and Dr. Erin D They are both WONDEFUL. I had a sick puppy and every time I went back they went above and beyond for me-my doggie is doing great. I actually look forward to going to see them because I come away feeling happy and secure that my puppy is getting the best care possible. THere prices are also very resonable. Other NYC vets charge you for walking throught the door..I never feel taken advantage of. Go see these vets!! you will NOT BE DISAPOINTED!!

Peter Kross is a great vet who will treat you and your animal with respect. He's never talked down to me, rushed me or left me with unanswered questions. My only complaint ( and it's a big one as my dog is 135 pounds) is that there's no street parking anywhere around and I obviously can't hail a cab! I end up paying $20 for the garage.

Dr. Kross is wonderful. Our dog Gus, who is generally a very picky dog when it comes to the people he likes, loved him! He was gentle, kind and caring for our dog. I couldn't think of a better person to take your pet to!
