I needed a bike rental for the New York MS ride. I was frustrated about not being able to reserve a hybrid bicycle in advance as I was traveling from out of state for the ride. Manager Don took a reservation so that would be sure to have a bike on arrival. On arrival he had the bikes set aside and ready to go. Changed out some pedals I brought with me and was out of there in less than 5 minutes. Great service, Great attitude, Great manager. Our 2nd year of renting from them for the MS ride and we'll back next year!

I recently visited more than a dozen NYC-area bike shops (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn) while shopping for a new bike. The service here was the absolute worst. After ignoring me for several minutes, the sales staff finally asked if I needed help. When I said I'd like to try out a particular bike, the staff member asked me which one of the bikes I meant (very odd since there was only one bike of that brand - I think it was a Fuji - on display at that moment). His cellphone then rang, and he proceeded to carry out an extended conversation with the caller without an apology or even a look at me. Meanwhile, neither of the two other salesstaff made an effort to help me. I walked out before getting to see any bikes.
Even if the service had been better, I would not have chosen this as the first place to look for a bike because their selection on display was very heavily weighted toward a single brand.

PROS: I can only wonder
CONS: Awful service

Years ago my father and I did a serious search for a fancy new bike and, after months of research, ended up buying from Midtown Bicycle. I was just back by today for help packing a bike to ship and they could not have been more helpful, efficient, or easy to work with. At least two of the people working this morning raced professionally, so they know a lot of technical/practicle stuff from experience, but they are also respectful of the most naive questions and requests (me- who can't fit my own bike it my own case, and another woman with a fancy bike who can't change a flat...). Plus, seemed everyone was bilingual, everyone likes each other, the place is organized and the prices seem great. What else could you ask for?

I highly recommend going to Metro Bicycles (Midtown Bicycles) for all your needs. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, especially Leo, the manager. He outfitted me with a new bike, selling me what I NEEDED, not some supped-up bike that I did not need. He then spent over two hours making sure I was properly fitted on the bike. Great staff, great store!

After a few unsuccessful attempts to buy the right bike at a couple of "trendier" places, it turned out Manhattan Bycicles had a few bikes in my price range/size for me to try built and ready. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They have a great selection of bikes, and if it's not built and on the floor, they can put one together for you in about hour. In fact, it turned out they had the one bike I wanted that was on backorder everywhere else I went.

I would definitely recommend this shop for anyone looking to buy a bike in Manhattan.
