5 Stars: LOVES IT!!!! (by dashinglaci)

Last month i went to Taj for their Monday Salsa night. Must i say, it was the best experience ever. Before the actual dance lesson my friends and i sat to eat and the service was great! Our waiter Farh was sooo handsome, with his high spirits, and sparky personality brought excitement to the begining of our night.

This is def a place i'm going to be coming back to.
New Years Eve Party, here we come!!!! =)

5 Stars: TAJ was rockin!!! (by Pestka)

I had a great night two weeks ago @ Taj. They were very courteous and extremely efficient w/ taking care of me. I did bottle service and was taken care of quickly, as were my guests. There was a line but we skipped everyone via the VIP/Bottle line. Once i was inside, the decor and atmosphere were both awesome. The DJ kept me dancing!!!! Service was great. I will definitely be back!!

5 Stars: Mix and Mingle Rocked 2nite! (by lancethechance)

We had a great time here at Taj 2nite. We stumbled upon it this Tuesday because it is usually the last thursday of the month but we are glad we did. We met one of the promoters named Ted and he invited us to next the next party he has at Taj as well as some of his other parties. This was a great kick off to the Christmas holiday.

5 Stars: Great Place for a Corporate party (by cmaddyrun)

Every year we have a holiday party which is usually boring and no1 wants to go here. But this year we had it at Taj instead of a stuffy "ball room" type of place. The DJ rocked and every1 got really tipsy *AWESOME OPEN BAR* The buffet dinner was cool and we all had a really good time. Next year i hope the holiday party is as fun as this year cuz im sure way more ppl will come!

1 Stars: Nice Crowd, standing outside. (by Vallens)

This has to be the worst place I've ever gone to. I rather go to the Ghetto China Club than this place again. For start, they don't give you all information when you call them. When I called them two weeks ago the receptionist didn't mention anything about guys paying cover or their door policy. Also, get ready to stand outside for no good reason. We waited over 90 minutes outside and decided to go somewhere else. While waiting, I ask the bouncers if they will let people in and got a "yeah, don't worry". I don't understand why they would have people wait outside without any chance of them getting in. If you?re looking for a place to hang out and have fun with your friends stay away from Taj. But if you like standing 2 hours outside in the cold just to go to an overcrowded and small room, Taj is the spot for you.

1 Stars: Not Worth The Money We Paid (by dwolf1000)

I don't write reviews but after this experience I feel the need! The line was terrible and when you reserve a table you should be seated immediately. The crowd was not selective and anybody with any sort of dress was inside and I think ten percent was good looking. Alot of pushing and shoving was the norm for the night and it seemed that nobody had manners. Our waitress seemed almost annoyed we were only doing two bottles and tried to get us to drink our bottles quickly so we could move as they had other tables waiting she said. When I told her that we had the table all night and we were taking our time we were told that quote "We will see about that". Very sad that this is the state of this business. We then discoved that our friends were charged even though we were told there was no cover for our party and when I confronted the doorman they told me it was the promoters rules and not theres. Very poor Night had by all and will not return here.

2 Stars: A-okay! (by Kim D)

A few friends and I went to Taj last Saturday night! The service I must say was pretty good. We paid $300 for two bottles of Moet... We didn't have to wait in line, free admission, and free coat check. The tables upstairs were too small...The music was COOL.. It was overcrowded...

1 Stars: Total rip off! (by alissaj1)

Way dissapointing. And such a rip off. I expected much better with so many good reviews.

Had my b-day party here last night. Huge mistake, DON'T DO IT! Arrived early (11:30) and still had trouble at the door. Apparently a $600 table reservation doesn't matter. We were instructed to wait in the "line" which was just a mob on the sidewalk, took 20 minutes to get in.

Once inside, there was a mandatory coat check ($3 per item). The decor was non-existent, they just turned off all the lights in attempt to create "ambiance". Can't believe I spent so much money at this dump. The pics online are really decieving.

The music was just OK, mostly old school hip hop, felt like I was at a wedding for a while. The crowd was just TRASHY. Hoochies in Forever 21 dresses barely covering ther lady parts, showing off all thier cellulite. Skeevy dudes just STANDING on the dance floor.

Was emailing with the promoter, Chris AC, for two weeks. What a joke. He promised "no door drama" and any one on my guest list would not have to wait in line. LIES! A group of friends who arrived later (12:30) were told to go to the back of line, which was of course an hour long at that point. He also said we would have a table on the upper level with plenty of room for my party of 12-15 ppl. Nope! We got shoved into one of the small tables downstairs with seating for only 4 ppl.

I managed to have a decent night only because I was with my friends. In short, I will never, ever go back here. You should not go either!

2 Stars: I'm glad I got in without paying a cover charge... (by DeeDee200)

I went here for my birthday last month. I had a good time only because I was with my friends but it would have been much better had we gone somewhere else. The music was boring and it killed my dance buzz. Besides the music, the place was okay. If I had paid a cover charge, I would have been pissed that I spent money to get into this place. I don't think I am ever going back and I don't recommend it.

5 Stars: Cool Spot (by jaseofspade)

Ummm the place was pretty cool. They sent out thank you letters today to say thank you for having my party here last night, that's pretty cool. I've had a few parties for myself and friends and this is the first place that emailed me EVER to say thank you! we didnt even get bottle service and they still said thank you. So i'm leaving a review because they were nice enough to thank me for coming to their cool spot. So thank you Taj lounge for having me and my party!

5 Stars: Amazing afterwork Birthday party! (by The Wizzle)

I never write reviews, but I celebrated my 40th birthday with friends, co-workers, and family @ Taj II last thursday, and I was moved to write THIS review. Every aspect of our evening was perfect. Our event coordinator Eddie, was phenomenal. He was professional, attentive, and true to his word he ensured that we would have a great time. Charles our bartender was a great sport, and Heather was terrific in meeting the needs of my guests. Our party was in the mezzanine, and it was spacious with great views of the club. The platters of food were plentiful and tasty. I will certainly return again and again. Kudos to Eddie and his staff. You guys are the truth!

4 Stars: loving the food! (by Ch0c0latequeen1985)

I came to Taj for the first time on Friday night for my friend's birthday dinner and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The waiter not only gave us the dinner menu but the bar menu as well so we had more choices! The Taj Wings are spectacular. They are spicy yet sweet and the Bombay Fries were so good!! I had the Pomegranate Chicken for dinner and it was perfectly cooked and the pomegranate glaze was just right. I definitely am going back for dinner, or just for the Taj Wings because they're so addictive!!

I just wish the cops hadn't messed everything up! We were having a great time and the music was great and then they had to move the crowd out due to a capacity issue or something. This is why Taj lost 1 star. The staff was really nice and accomodating and very apologetic and they gave us a few suggestions on where to go and we ended up next door at Duvet and got in for free because they knew what was happening at Taj.

All in all we had a great night even with the cops trying to shut the place down and I will be coming back soon

4 Stars: everything worked out in the end (by Sambo339)

i helped my best friend plan his birthday party at taj this saturday and "due to building issues" we had to move our party. the reservationist called us and told us that their capacity was 75 people!! we thought we were screwed but then she offered to send us to their other club katra. she offered us a free table and a free bottle of champagne for all of our troubles and we also got to invite more people. she was really nice and made us feel like everything was going to be alright.

my best friend had the BEST time ever and is probably nursing a nasty hangover right now. they really took care of us and made sure everything was perfect. even though we had originally planned to go to taj everything worked out in the end. hopefully next time we'll be at taj.

5 Stars: GREAT 21st birthday (by sexysince1988)

I had a great 21st birthday at Taj. I started planning the birthday weeks in advance because I had never thrown a birthday party. I got bottle service and everything that i expected from my conversations over the phone were done that night! No suprise charges or anything like that which was awesome. I was a little upset at first because i couldnt come in until 12am on the dot (ern i actually made 21) but after i got in i had the best birthday EVER IN THE HISTORY OF MY BIRTHDAYS! lol it was really great. The manager even sent us over a free round of shots when she found out it was my birthday! I will def be comin back soon :)

5 Stars: Cool Spot (by luckyleftie007)

So I'm not a real fan of going out because I hate super crowed places, long lines, and promoters that lie. So when my friends told me we were goin out I wasn't too excited. We were told 2 for 1 drinks and free until midnight on our guestlist, to my shock when we got in FOR FREE there actually were 2 for 1 DRINKS! That really made my night, plus the fact that there was a really sexy bachelorette party down the bar from us. I have to say that i really had a good time. The drinks were a little pricey but they were strong and good so it was worth the price. All in all i had a great time. Still not a "club" person but i can really see my self coming back to this place very soon!!

5 Stars: Always A GREAT Time (by MissKatami)

I recently celebrated my Birthday at TAJ on a Saturday night and it was one of the best birthdays I've ever had!

All of my friends had a great time.... No Drama, no complaints, and my boyfriend and his friends had no problems at the door....

The venue itself is beautiful, the crowd is upscale....
And the music was awesome... We all danced the ENTIRE night!

The promoters totally took care of me and all my friends... And from what I heard, the bartenders definitely werent shady with the pouring!

I had a table with a couple of bottles, and the promoter even gave me a free bottle of champagne =) The waitress was also really nice as well.

We've set up a bachelorette party here for next weekend... I cant wait to go back!

5 Stars: Reason I love NY (by DMilfort)

I just wanted to start off by saying thumbs up to the people at the door for reinforcing the dress code. Many places let the wanna be thugs with baggy pants, Timberlands and hair rags in. But at TAJ they make sure you look the par. Once I step in mannnn the ladies look amazing, the DJ play all hits that make you wanna dance all night. The upper level is a great spot for a more intimate small party. This place gets an A+++++ everyone was on there P's and Q's..........

5 Stars: Great Night in the City!!!!!!! (by nightlifebunny)

Attented a good friends B Day party here and was left in aww as to how popular this place was. Ive heard great things about this place but kept brushing it off. Next thing you know im walking up 21st street and my jaw dropped at the long line and crowds of people trying to get in. I had specific instructions on what to say to the door host who turned out to be a pretty hot mamma(Very Rarely to you see women running the door in NYC) anyways my girls had bottle service so we were able to bypass the bread line and get to the bar asap for a few shots before heading to the reserved table. Next thing I knew the DJ was banging hits, we pop'd a few more bottles and ........ well the rest is a blurr. Great night. This place has definitely been added to my places to be in the city this upcoming spring.

Ive been several times to afterwork networking events at Taj but Fridays Mardis Gras theme was fun. They even handed out beads to everyone to keep it festive. It was more of a singles party than some of the others and I got to meet some nice guys. The DJ played some 80s as well as todays music. It was a very nice event and i signed up for the newsletter for the next one.

4 Stars: DJ GETLIVE!!! Great party!! (by partyhottie1)

I went on Saturday for my birthday and it was so much fun. My group planned to club hop but ended up staying at Taj the entire night!! There was no cover early and an open bar until 11!! Add that to the second DJ that played and my night was great!! Except for the one short power glitch the Dj had, hes the best ive seen in a long time!! I recommend checking him and this place out!!

1 Stars: WHAT A RIP OFF (by NYkniowitall)

DO NOT GO HERE!!! For one the promoters told us "LADIES FREE B4 1AM" (I have the flyer to prove it). That was b-s. Half of my girls got there 11:30PM and still had to pay! The people at the door told the them the promoters lie just to get you there. The rest of us got there at 12:30am, but they held up the line until 1am, forcing us to pay! Once inside the bartender told one of my girlfriends that he had to charge her an extra $6 for using her debt card at the bar! When it was time to check our coats we were told coat check was "closed" and if we wanted to still "check" them it will be $5 instead of $3. If coat check is "closed" why the heck are you still offering to check coats.... it was another BS way of getting our money! I WON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MY WORST ENEMY!!! I'M SURE THERE ARE MORE RECESSION FRIENDLY PLACES IN NEW YORK CITY!!!!!

5 Stars: Had a GREAT time!! (by debraSnyc)

I went to Taj with my friends on Valentines night to celebrate being single and we had a fantastic time! There wasn't really a wait to get in (maybe because it was valentines??) but there was still a crowd. Everyone was friendly and made us feel at home which doesn't happen enough anymore. The music was great but though drinks were still NYC priced, we WILL be back!!!

4 Stars: Great Happy hour!! (by bizcutie)

My co workers and I went to Taj for after work drinks and appetizers and the room was nice and cozy. There was a DJ but he wasn't overwhelming and kept the music chill but fun. The happy hour specials will keep us coming back!! The GM came over and invited our group to stay and experience the nightlife scene there and though we were reluctant, she was convincing. We tend to stick to after work gatherings instead of the club scene to stay away from the nonsense. We were pleasantly surprised!!! Everyone had a great time, we stayed until 2am!!
We will be back for Happy Hour for sure but i'm also planning my sisters birthday party there for the club!!

5 Stars: Pimpin Party Spot (by GigiCouture)

I threw a birthday party for my husband and his best friend at this lovely venue on Dec. 20th, 2008. It was off the chain! The ambiance, the feel, the music, the employees, the vibe, the crowd..everything was on point. The staff was very accommodating and every detail of our table reservation was handled with efficiency and class. Edwardo "Eddie" Romano, the event coordinator was a pleasure to work with. Very easy going and enjoys helping you get the most out your party experience. The table was great. We were right beside the dj, which was perfect for our guests..because we really know how to work a dance floor. Although Taj gets pretty packed, that did not hinder the vast amount of patrons' opportunity to cut a rug and show off their moves lol! All in all it was a great experience to plan and to actually see the work come full circle. 21st street has multiple party spots. I've had tables/thrown parties at both Duvet and Slate Plus which are steps away from Taj and this venue can hold its own. It exceeds both the other two, by ambiance and decoration alone. I highly reccommend this spot, and I will most definitely party here again :-) !!!

2 Stars: Great place for dancing but bad coat check (by foxymc)

Taj becomes a club/lounge on Friday and Saturday nights and I've been there a couple of times but haven't tried the restaurant/food. Great place for dancing...the DJ plays a good mix of music. But I had the worst experience with their coat check. First off, their coat check is mandatory which costs $3...that's fine. But if you are going to step out for a smoke or to get some air and check out your coat, you will need to re-check your coat and pay $3 everytime! Are they really trying to make a business out of coat checking?!

Then, the girl at the coat check forgot to give me my ticket and when I was claiming my coat at the end of the night and explained that the girl forgot to give me a ticket, the 3 girls in there immediately got defensive and attitudes flew off the shelves and said "we don't forget to give tickets" (at which point my husband got irate because of their inefficiency). Maybe they can explain why they have an extra ticket taped on the wall which just magically matched the ticket # for my coat. Good thing I had my husband's ticket and told them to check the # right after that since we checked our coats at the same time! I didn't get any type of apology! I probably won't be going back there again!

Didn't have the opportunity to sample the menu, but the DJ is OFF THE HOOK! Music will keep your feet and body moving for hours. Small-ish space, but again, that DJ made up for any infractions. Great combination of music choices and mixes. Can not say enough about the spinner in the booth! Next Party - I'm there!

I recently had my launch party at Taj Lounge - launched my 6th workout video - Masala Bhangra Workout Back to Bollywood. We had many people show up for the event, we had our own DJ for this event and it was perfect. The location was great - the staff was so friendly. Whatever we needed, even at the last minute, the people at Taj were easy to work with. They made my event rock! Thank you Taj!

5 Stars: THE Place for Your Party (by elkane7533)

Reserved a table for my birthday party on Friday, 10/24/08. Went there a couple of weeks before the party to set everything up with Ed the event manager, and I even got to pick a table right there. I was only required to buy 2 bottles for the table I wanted, I got 3 anyway. The price is reasonable and I got a free bottle of champagne with the package. The entire staff was extremely helpful and accommodating, and every single one of my friends got in without a problem. The place was just crowded enough, without having to rub elbows with anyone. Great music & atmosphere, and service make this the best birthday party I've thrown yet!

5 Stars: An amazing birthday!!! (by sivela)

I had my 23rd birthday here back in June and after searching for months for the perfect place that wouldnt give me a hassle getting my friends in, and wouldnt be shady at the door as to how many people could come in under my bottle service.... I called up TAJ and they were so helpful. The lady gave me a great package.... 4 bottles of absolute and 2 bottles of champagne for 1200, tax/grat included. She gave me a booth that could fit 8 and guaranteed that all 15 of my friends would get in. Needless to say, i had about 50 people come to my party.... When people gave my name at the door, they were so accomodating! They didnt give people alot of trouble at the door, didnt make people pay to get in. i got there around 11, most of my friends got there by 12. I had some friends that came late, and the lady at the door informed me she couldnt let any more people in for me unless i bought another bottle. It was hard for me to argue with her since there were already a ton of people that gave my name at the door. But she was still nice enough to give me another bottle of absolute discounted at $200. The waitress at my table was always there if I needed anything.... when it was time to pop the champagne, instead of needing 15 glasses, i needed like 30 and they gave me no problem getting the extra glasses and pouring it out for me. The best staff i've encountered so far in NY.... would definately have another party there. Think it was my best birthday yet :)

5 Stars: Great Dinner.....Great Service (by flavabeats)

I had the pleasure of being invited to this lounge this past Saturday(9-13). My friends told me the place was beautiful but I had no idea how incredible it was until I walked in the door. Everything about your place was fantastic and I made sure to look everywhere. I think the best part were the workers, the food and that big tv above the room. During the dinner quite a few of us had no problem looking straight ahead and watching the game. :)

I even took a few cards to pass along to my friends and can't wait to return.

You don't know me but I attended a party at Taj Lounge on Saturday, hosted by a good friend of min. I just want to let you know that this restaurant was beautiful, mainly the ambiance. The seating and space was comfortable. Most importantly, our waiter was excellent. He was cordial and VERY patience with us. He was there to make sure everything was moving smoothly but at the same time not intrusive. He deserves a bonus and acknowledgment for being an excellent host of your establishment.

5 Stars: Awsome events department....u guys rock (by kimfinsim)

I intend to send a card thanking everyone but every little bit of praise counts. Taj has the best Events Coordinator I have dealt with in a while. He remained professional at all times, never once was he rude with all my continuous calling, not sure of how many guest I would have, and even on the day of the event you were kind to my guest as they entered in and out of the lounge. " Far "..... was absolutely amazing, under all the pressure " he never cracked" and followed all my crazy request to the " T ". All my guest had a great time I would like the name of your assistant, I think she is your assistant. She is Latino or Black reddish colored hair. She was very helpful and kind to my guest. Throughout the evening I saw her make an appearance every once in a while to make sure things were running smoothly. Even though you want remember their faces, several of my guest and friends will be back ( including me ).

I have a B'day coming up soon. Who know's you might see myself there LOL.

5 Stars: best service EVER (by luckygirl78)

I planned an impromptu get-together here one night for 20 people. I walked in with no reservation, but the staff (Edwardo, Ruth, Delores) was more than accommodating and I was able to set up a nice little event -- such a rarity in NYC! They treated everyone like VIP, and my friends had a blast. So when it came time to plan my 30th for 50 of my nearest and dearest where else was I going to go? And I'm getting the hook up even though I planned everything a little late in the game! Edwardo could not be better! Plus, the decor/vibe is sophisticated and chill, the spot is very spacious (high ceilings), and the drinks/food are reasonably priced. FANTASTIC spot!

5 Stars: Dinner and Late Night (by ickyticky)

Made dinner resorvations for my girls B-Day. Now i just want to say that im not a fan of indian food so i was a little hesitant but Carla insisted on going here. So i took my chances and luckily everything worked out. Turns out the food isnt indian, its just the spices, LOL if that makes any sense. Anyway, they also had a decent night life. This was a complete surprise to me as i had made table resorvations elsewhere but when i saw the truck load of bachlorettes and b day parties starting to show up, literally every table was flooded with bottles by midnight. So on my way out to have a cig the hostess breaks down a deal so that i could just stay here and party. Not economical by any means but hey its NYC. She did give me a better deal then the other club and made sure to give line privledge to all my friends that came in late. Hands down they know how to make something from nothing. Even the owner took time out to stop by and wish Carla a happy b day and have a shot with us. Very personable, Good looking crowd, bangin D.J. the list goes on and on. Made my job setting up my girls b day a breeze. Thanks Taj. Ill def be back.

5 Stars: fastest service ever! (by classact55)

Was on 21st street today and remembered that I've been meaning to write a review for Taj for a couple weeks now.
Went there about 3 or 4 weeks ago, on a sat night, and was amazed by the service I got at the bar. Normally, I go out to clubs and just dance because I don't feel like waiting 20 minutes to get a drink from the pretty but incompetent barstaff...
Let me tell you that that is not the case at Taj. These bartenders were CRAZY FAST! Even though the bartender I was ordering from was doing about 20 things at the same time, she had the time to joke with me and gave me a tip to remember their names. She told me to remember the sentence "justin timberlakes p*ss..." (for Jenn, Troy, Pete). I thought that was hilarious!
What a well oiled machine Taj!!

Friday Nights at Taj is a fun and great place to party. The music is great, they play a variety of everything!
1 Stars: The door girl stinks!! (by Megs4)

Just wanted to say that the place has potential but the girl who collects money on saturday nights is just plain old main and nasty. I feel that the person who is letting you into the place should be poliet and nice and make you excited to come in. Instead she rolls her eyes, gives you a hard time, and makes comments about your outfit. Not cool in my book.

4 Stars: Great music and drink specials!! (by sarahluv)

I went tonight for an after work party and the place was great. The DJ kept me guessing with the new school and old school tracks. They had happy hour specials and when that ended, they had free flavored malibu drinks for awhile. It was definatly a nice setting for dinner and drinks while getting out of the rain!! I was a little confused by the hawaiin themed group that threw the party, but it worked. And if it gets me free drinks....sign me up!!

5 Stars: BEST BDAY!!! (by jenb2)

My friends decided today they would take me out for my bday and couldn't get last min reservations for a party of 15 without getting pre-fix!!! We found taj and they told us there would be some party so it may be loud with a DJ. We had a ball!!! The server kept bringing us cake shots and making us dance. For last min, it was probably the most fun Ive had.

1 Stars: Horrible experience terrible staff (by missmarymac)

I would recommend not going to this place on a saturday night. The staff has a bad attitude. On a monday night for Salsa fun. On a Saturday night do not go. The girl who collects money not so much. Rolling her eyes, making comments about not being stylish enough. Who does she think she is?!?! I would not go back on a saturday night. Drinks are way to expensive anyway.

1 Stars: The girlss who work the door are complete and total SNOBS!!!! DO NOT GO (by Pie10)

This place is beyond pretenious!! The only reason we went was for a friend's birthday and we were on a "premier" guest list. They claimed that it would be free admission before 11 pm and open bar for vodka mixed drinks between 10:30 and 11:30. We got to the bar at 10:50. The line wasn't bad at all, but the people at the bar would not let us in until 11:01 making sure we would have to pay the $20 "discounted" admission. I spoke with the girl who was taking the money, who rudely yelled at me and got very worked up. I've never experienced such rudeness. We went in only because it was a friend's birthday. Normally I would have just left. The drinks were $10 or more (which I know is typical for a NYC bar) however, since we had to pay the $20 to get in, no one wanted to drink anymore. I asked the bartender about the open bar who said he was never told this and "sorry" but he can't do it. (even though it was only 11:02 at the time). However, he was really nice and gave me a free shot. He was the only good thing about the bar. The girl at the door is horrible!! She should learn who to talk to people and get that stick out of her butt. On a different note the music was good too. But that didn't make up for the girl who collects money. Please do not waste your time going there on a Saturday night.

The girl who collects money on Saturday nights is a total POS. She commented that I was wearing flip flops when on this website it says they don't care. Mean while I was wearing a really nice outfit. Ughh so rude!! Plus she had the worst attitude, a "I'm better then you". Jeez, its a bar where people want to have fun, calm down!! The drinks are way over priced and the cover for guys makes it not worth going in. Don't go there!!

I had my birthday party at Taj 2 weeks ago and I was able to work with them and book Dj Precise at the venue. The staff was awesome from the manager to the bathroom attendant. Some of my guy friends had an issue because they wore sneakers but the doorman accommodated my request as I was turning 30 and this was BIG DEAL! Some of my guests did have to wait on the line because they arrived late but they eventually got in. I recommend getting there ON TIME but it was a great night. I highly recommend it.

I came here last night for Raphael Saadiq's Listening party and it was such a great event. I tried a couple of the signature cocktails and the Taj Wings which were great. I forget the name of the cocktail that was really tasty. It was like a spicy martini but it was really good! The crowd was great and very upscale and the place was beautiful! I will most def be back soon!!!

I went to a bday party in the VIP a couple of weeks ago and we had a great time. We had dinner at 9:30 and then stayed for the late nite party. The dinner was great. our waitress was really nice and she recommended the crab cakes and pomegranate chicken. GREAT CHOICES! After dinner more friends joined us and we had some bottles and partied the night away! The DJ was like a master at mixing!! He played EVERYTHING! From pop to rock to hip hop to r&b we danced the night away! I?m going back this Saturday for dinner with my guy and I?m sure that I will have another great night and some more tasty POMEGRANTE CHICKEN =)

1 Stars: Worst NYC Experience Ever (by CM84)

This place was truly heinous. We made reservations for dinner at 8:00, and they told us that it might be loud because of a private event, but then called to confirm the reservation. However, when we got there we were seated upstairs?on a couch. The hostess said she was keeping the genuine tables downstairs open for the event. Thus, we could only order appetizers off the bar menu. Awesome. We ordered drinks and though we were seated next to an entirely empty upstairs bar, our drinks took forever to materialize from the more crowded downstairs bar. We were offered other peoples? food twice before the servers got their ducks in a row?the other people, by the way, having real dinners while we got bar niblets. Of course, dinner-eaters were forced to balance plates on their laps, on account of the couch situation. Our $12 crab cakes turned out to be an order of only 2 and they were rubbery, our ?Taj Fries? were actually bland dorm-dining-hall-style fries, nothing Taj, Indian, or Fusion about them. Tacky balloons for the event (which we never saw) lessened the already standard decor, and we never had the same hostess or server twice in a row, making it difficult to work out who worked their and who was as baffled as us. To top it all off, the bouncer kindly opened the door to let us out?into a back hall where they keep their trash?very scenic. We won?t be going back, wouldn?t recommend it, and will sleep fine tonight after leaving a scathing Citysearch post.

Its taken some time but Taj has definetly worked to change their style!! I went this Saturday expecting to find the same old vibe and was pleasantly suprised!! The decor was hot and the crowd was just looking to have a great time. We came for a birthday and getting a guestlist was easy. We got there early and the cutie at the door moved the line quickly. Some of my friends couldnt get in cause they came late when the door was closed, but the lady manager came out and explained they didn't want to overcrowd the room.As other customers left, my friends were allowed in and we had a blast!! Nice change of pace for customer service in NYC. I will totally be having my bday there in September!!

3 Stars: Not Bad! (by Thomasppc)

After a recommendation by Mark from Katra we decided to go to Katra's sister bar Taj for Saturday Night. The food here is also very nice but the service is a little less more attentive. The signature cocktails are beautiful and the bartender Jenifer was very helpful. The waitress seemed a little preoccupied which we felt made the night a little disappointing. It turned into this crazy club at eleven which we were not prepared for and felt we were being rushed a little so as they could take our table. We left then because it was not our type of party but we would pay a visit here again. We asked their door host where to go and he was very helpful and sent us on our way to our next venue. So far so good for our trip here.

5 Stars: Great Place To Be! (by BanzaiLuv)

Ive been to Taj only a couple times but was amazed each time. The first time I took my boyfriend in there for dinnner, for his birthday, and had Denae as my waiter. She recommended the steak which was great as well as a African wine. When we ordered dessert, there was a candel in the dessert. She had said that she overheard us talking about the celebration and wanted to make it "special" which it couldn't have been anymore. I was so appreciative that she took action without me even saying anything. Everyone else was so friendly to us as well. I am coming back for sure!

5 Stars: JUST GRAND!!!!!!!! (by SultryShortie)

Rarely do I ever write reviews of places I attend for dinner and/or drinks, but after going to Taj I'd be insane not to let others know about this admirable place. Went there last Friday for after work dinner and drinks with a couple of my friends. Might i say the food there is very good , BUT the dessert was just exquisite. I had the Chocolate Bread Pudding Samosas (I can still taste it now just thinking of it) MMMMMMMMMM. (the waitress was VERY patient with us when deciding what we wanted to eat and even gave us very good suggestions). After dinner we decided to stick around because in the late evening they also have a nightclub. We couldn't believe how many people frequent the place. The line was long BUT the wait wasn't as long as other places we've been to recently. The staff at the door were pleasant (not to mention very attractive..great way to draw in the ladies..myself included)...They weren't arrogant and insolent like the mojority of NYC lounges or clubs...
Once inside we realized what the big deal with this place is. The decor is admirable. The drinks, although a bit expensive, were worth every cent. The ambiance was great and a diversified crowd.
I look forward to going to Taj again. We're even thinking of making this OUR SPOT

5 Stars: Get Your Party On (by tammymcfunky)

This was my first time planning a party at a night club and I must say I was not disappointed. I held my sister's bachelorette after party at Taj and had an amazing night! It was about 12 ladies in total and had VIP resevations. From the moment we got there, we were escorted in, followed by drinks and food. Throughout the course of the night, the staff kept checking to make sure we were happy with the service and wanted to make sure we were having a good time. Definitely felt like VIP that night! Kudos to Eddie, the event planner, who helped make this night special. Very efficient and a pleasure to work with! We spoke several times before the event in order to provide me with the necessary info...not to mention, he goes out of his way to make the event memorable for those involved. Food was good, music was great lovely ambiance and drinks were non stop!!! We definitely got ur party on that saturday night 6/08. My guests had a great time and my sister was elated. Thanks Taj! Definitely a place to revisit.

5 Stars: Best after work spot to mix and mingle (by cimi11105)

I frequent this venue for its really nice and cool interior decor, along with great service and food. on the weekends it turns into a club which is hip-hop and r&b mostly. barely have issues getting in and once inside the atmosphere is really enjoyable. the crowd is cool and hip and not there to cause trouble, everyone is having fun.....after work is ideal to go because it offers more than just a cool club, music, and environment, that being the food. the food plus the mix and mingle atmosphere i think is the most enjoyable plus the hosts really know how to handle the club. i.e. DJ blasts music while im eating dinner and the gentleman named Eddie i found out later gave him a little speech about what the volume should be and adjusted it. i had to thank him and got to know him a little better and about the club. DEFINITELY CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!!!!

I had a very memorable and fascinating experiences at taj. I find it to be one the best restaurants in New York. Its a great place to attend for an after work drink or get together with friends to have fun on the weekends. I definitely know a great party and taj is the place to be Monday thru Saturday; wether your in the mood for a good party or just a group of co workers out relaxing. It caters to all of New Yorkers. Theire drinks are better than average and their service is excellent. I have been going there for over a year and will always return.
5 Stars: Great Birthday! (by hisbabystace)

So my little sister planned a party for me and 15 of my friends here on July 5 and we had a great time. Earlier that week we had come for dinner so I was siked about having my bday here! We got 3 bottles upstairs in the VIP and a platter of apps. It was a great evening!! All of my party got in hassle free and the guest list was actually upheld unlike at other clubs. DJ Get Live was a great DJ and kept shouting out the Bdays and VIPs! The crowd was great and at the end of the evening I was even surprised with a cake! I can say it was a great birthday!

5 Stars: cool place (by 1food1lover1)

Me and some buddies came here awhile back for their salsa party. It was a great night and the dancers were really hot. So when my sister said that she wanted me to take her and her girls out for her birthday i decided to try this place out. It was a great pick. The line wasn't too long and their was not too much hassel at the door. Once inside the music was really hot and so were the chicks. The crowd and the music were really live and made for a great time. The bartenders flirted with my sister making her night even better and i left with a couple of numbers. Overall it was a great time and we will most def be back again.

5 Stars: A great Staruday night (by browwnsuga)

I used to party at Taj when it first opened, but hadn't gone in a while
until this past Saturday. The new Taj proved to be an excellent choice for
a Saturday night in NYC. Taj improved its existing decor with LED lights,
which indeed gave Taj a new look and feel. The line was short and quick
and the door man was very cordial and quite handsome! My friends and I felt
welcomed from the time we entered. The music was amazing and varied from
80's, old school to hip hop/reggae, everyone was dancing non-stop and
having a great time. It was a classy and mixed crowd. The bartenders were
very friendly, didn't have to wait to be served. The signature drinks
including the Tamarind and Budina were awesome. Overall the customer
service was excellent and I will definately be back on a saturday night
with my crew!

1 Stars: Only Okay (by Jenifer9119)

Myself and my girlfriends were here for dinner last Sat night and Taj was disappointing. The food here seems confused and I am not sure what they are trying to do with the menu! It?s not Indian that I am sure after visiting there. It?s not fusion so I am not sure.
My problem was that or waitress was asleep and did not seem interested in our table. She spent most of the time at the bar having fun with the bartenders. We finished our dinner and decided to give late night a try as we were told it turned into a good club late night well not exactly from what we could see. Two of my friends left to go to another bar for a while and when they came back were told they must pay cover. When they explained the host told them that that was there problem for leaving and then rudely told them that if they did not stop arguing then the whole group would be asked to leave! They paid and what a waste of money. Drinks were very expensive and there seemed to be two prices for Vodka and RedBull. One bartender $17 and another I think $15 or $16 which is insane.
Music was good but Taj got interesting as the crowd changed throughout the night. They would let anyone in there and there were some rough looking people. At two we left and went to another club where the crowd was more mixed
Sorry to say Taj did nothing for me only disappoint all of us.

4 Stars: Great saturday night party (by Mbali)

I'm an event planner and party promoter. For my first time working with TAJ II, I was pleased with the level of professionalism they demonstrated. They opened their doors to me and my team and made sure that we had everything we needed before, during and after our party. Eddie was great to work with. He's generally a really nice guy and very fair.

We brought 200+ people to their venue on a Saturday night. There were some initial hiccups at the door - people wanted to come in through the front of the line with the promotion team and it seemed that they were making people wait unnecessarily. And some of the bar staff were unaware of some of our sponsorship arrangements. But that was all cleared up quickly by Delores and Eddie and everything explained in a calm professional way.

DJ Get Live was great and able to feel our crowd really well. Played a lot of hip hop and old school R&B.

We will work with Taj II again very soon.

5 Stars: Great Tuesday! (by your1mom)

I went to Taj last night (Tuesday) and had a fantastic time! My daughter had been inviting me for the past three weeks and I am glad that I finally went. When we got to the restaurant there was a DJ and a few people were dancing, but as the night progressed, more people came and the night became more exciting. My best friend and I even began to dance. We tried some appetizers, the calamari was really good. And I also had a spicy drink, I forget the name, but if you like spicy drinks and margaritas then you would love this drink. All in all it was a great night and I really happy that I came out to experience it.

1 Stars: No respect for customers (by Elles)

Don't expect to be treated with respect here.
I have been visiting this place before. It seems that the policies are changing to the worse.
If you leave your purse/jacket on a sit while going on a dance floor ? you might not find it after you return. The waitress can put it to the different sit or on the floor.
We had a dinner reservation. The waitress said that we could keep the table until at least 9 pm.
At 8 p.m. (before we finished the meal) we were asked to vacate the table.

Place is crowded, service is terrible.

5 Stars: Great Renovations (by pendangis)

I havent been there in atleast a year. So when i walked in i was amazed to see all the changes that were made. Kudo's to the designer. Its nice to see that not all clubs in nyc have given up there Unique International decor for more of a miami neon lights theme.( Im soooo sick and tired of the neon lights theme) Either way, the place looked amazing. I didnt fell like i was in New York once i got in. Great ambiance and a nice mix of ladies. The door was as usual a bit of a wait but it moved alot faster than most places I've visited in the last few months. I had no problem with paying the cover. As a matter of fact I was having such a good time i ended up doing bottle service from inside the club. They sat me in the mezz were there just so happen to be some celeb's popin bottles and a large group of girls celebrating a bachlorette. One word. INSANE. The absolute best time i had this year so far and the best money spent in the city since my bday party last year. This year its definitely gona be at taj.

5 Stars: Night clubs are sooooo over rated or so i thaught. (by harlemhoney)

Yep.......It?s OFFICIAL. This place rocks. Last night I ventured out into the city for what I thought would be a quiet and relaxed drink at a bar. Next thing you know my phone is blowing up and it?s my girl telling me how she's at Taj doing body shots. I didn?t hesitate to head over and to my surprise the door staff was the SAME guys from Saturday. Very rarely do u see that. So these guys stroked my ego to the point that I almost floated into the room on top of taking care of all my girlfriends. They really know how to treat their guests. Kind, courteous, and to the point. When I asked the bouncer why are they so different he says it?s because they don?t B.S. you at the door. You are going to get in or you?re not. Either way you won?t have to wait 45 minutes to find out. I even stood there as the door guy turned someone away. The guys were a bit unhappy but it was otherwise a smooth transaction. I swear I've never seen that level of professionalism displayed at a door. Even in Miami. Long story short, this club is amazing. Decor, Drinks, and customer appreciation. SIX STARS AND GROWING...........

1 Stars: Worst Party Ever (by jenleb121)

I would never write a review but there are always the exceptions! We were at a party on Sat night here and it was the worst ever. We were first told that there would be a two for one drink special and when we got there it was in fact changed to a vodka open bar which was not agreed too. I don?t drink vodka and was forced to buy my normal drink at $14 per drink .The bartender was very rude when I asked him about it and he told me if we did not like the way it was then we have a choice of the other places in the neighborhood which I found totally unprofessional.
The music was okay but as the night proceeded the crowd began to change and become a little rough looking. While the party continued a fight broke out and people were just rude. One gentleman was bothering my girlfriend and we asked security if he could help and ask the guy to leave us alone but we were told that was not his job. We asked to speak to the manager and were told he was not available. My girlfriend was upset because of pretty much everything that we decided to leave. I would never come back here to be treated in such a way.
Before we left there was a fight again and someone used pepper spray and everyone was asked to leave. I have never seen anything like this while at a club. This was not what we expected when we booked this party and we have learned never to trust a promoter again !!!!!!
When they say "Hot Party" it means tempers not the crowd!

Talk about a true hot spot!!! Me and my Girl friend went to Taj on saturday night. Never been there before but heard good things. Even though the promoter had some of his information wrong. The party was of the hook. I meet some really cool people and had a blast. The music was great but the drinks were better lol. Even though some girls were being rude. The bouncers totaly took control and made sure that every one else had a good time. I just want to say thanks Taj!!!

So,i went here after being invited by a friend to this "great" lounge/club. I havent heard anything about the place in awhile so i was prepared to be turned off. i was suprised to find that they had redecorated and the vibe was super nice. They had an afterwork happy hour thing going on that later turned into the usual bottle service scene (but a bit more inviting). The staff was a bit chill, but very friendly. The even serve food which turned out to be pretty good. I would def go back. Its a nice change of pace. Prices are still nyc but vibe is worth it!

2 Stars: Don't get comfortable in the seats or chairs (by citygoer123)

I went to Taj for a special event. My friend and I sat, got comfortable, and ordered a lovely dinner. As soon as the bill was paid, and before the event began, we were told that we had to move so others could eat. The waitress was friendly and we understood. That was fine. She told us we could sit upstairs and still have a great view of the upcoming performance.

We moved and got comfortable once again.

But we were immediately approached by the hostess who told us to move for another party that were there to eat. (Mind you - the tables were coffee tables!). We were reluctant, but moved to the last chairs/seats available. ... only to find out that the couple who sat to eat never ordered and LEFT. Other non-eating customers came and took over the area and the dinner napkins on the coffee tables were left un-used, but my friend and I, who paid to have dinner, got the boot twice!

If Taj wants to serve dinner, they need to be more organized and not "shoo" their paying customers around ... and AWAY!

1 Stars: horrible employees (by p3n1s)

i've actually been here a few times before and had a decent time but i havent been there in a long time and went back for two friends birthdays. first the cashier girl and this other guy that controls the line (not the bouncer) were really rude. usually at parties you pay first then go to coat check. the guy tells us we need to go to coat check and we're like ok...after we pay we'll go. then he goes on saying if we're deaf and to check in our coats, its like talking to a wall. you dont need to insult us just tell us we need to go first. plus coat check should be optional because its freezing in that place.

then after the whole partying in an over crowded environment where i could barely move and go to get my jacket and i handed 2 tickets to the coat check girl who ends up giving me another friends jacket. i tell her thats the wrong jacket and she gives me an atitude about its the right jacket. i'm thinking maybe its right but i needed the actual jackets i needed because my other friend was staying. so i get my friend to give me her ticket and went back to get the original jacket and replace it with hers. surprisingly (being sarcastic) she cant find the jacket...you know why? because she gave me the wrong jacket in the first place. she then calls me names for getting everything mixed up which is impossible because i never went behind the counter and doesnt replace the wrong jacket she got me.

so ladies, when you arrive at this club make sure you dress warm or dance till you sweat. if you dont dance you're gonna freeze bu tthen again the bumping and body heat of the crowd might be able to warm you up. also be prepared to lose your jackets because from what i see the unintelligent coat check girl who cant read numbers will lose it.

2 Stars: Terrible line policy (by bobbyhbobby)

Miserable experience to not even get in. Showed up around midnight for a large group's private party. Told the bouncer who put us on the bottle line (shorter) so we were anticipating waiting maybe 20 minutes. I was completely wrong. They made us wait for over an hour and the short guy with glasses running the line was completely powerless as his other taller (maybe senior?) bouncers let 40 guys in off the street. Perhaps they're regulars, so I hold no grudge against them, but my friends inside said the place was completely empty, so I didn't quite understand the need to keep people waiting that long. Needless to say my friends (1 other guy and 2 girls) decided to leave and head someplace more reasonable. I've been here before and had a great time, but I never anticipated anything like this. To top it off, they planned on charging guys $40 after waiting that long.
Maybe it's Friday nights, but the wait was absurd, the cover too, and to top it off the place was empty.

The music and decor was awesome! It was crowded and the service was terrible, the waitress was rude! It's mad expensive and overated. The dark hair skinny waitress, she was so rude and obnoxious, I guess since she already knew she was getting a big tip because we order a bottle, service after that was NONE. At the end of the night we wanted some martinis, we gave her a $100.00 and said we want our change back, apparently she misunderstood and never came back, we finally did ask for change, she came back with an attitude and the money fell on the floor and she walked away. Attitude like this will drive customers away.

4 Stars: good times (by frednwilma)

Went on a Friday night. A bit of a wait at the door, but after getting in we bought bottles at a table and danced all night. Very crowded at the bar, though.

5 Stars: Beautiful place... (by dahotti)

I was at Taj on Friday and had a great time. I had such a wonderful time I went back on Saturday night. Everyone from the door to the bartenders were really nice/pleasant and very helpful, although it was packed - I found an area by the bar where I felt safe and closer to the bartenders (wink). I have to say the bartenders are all hot - I think thats why I went back on Saturday night (shhhhh).... The music was really good both nights. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family - everyone have a wonderful time!

4 Stars: Comedy Show (by jr8268)

I went to the comedy show at Taj on Wednesday night. I really enjoyed the show and the atmosphere was great. We received a raffle prize of Knicks tickets and even though the Knicks are losers we were thrilled at the prize. The food was good and for the price we got three comedians from different TV shows and the host was even funny. The grown up crowd was a nice change and I'm definitely going back with some of my co-workers.

2 Stars: Nightmare on 21st, assume the position!! (by amateurkritik)

what a nightmare it was... Bouncer. Bouncers. Bouncers. Bounces .Cops .Cops .Cops. oops i'm sorry i meant boucers. who do they think they are : fake promotion ad of open bar 10 to 11, 2 for 1 drinks 11 to 12am.. they had a private event , told us to got next door to slate comeback at 1130 after event was over. cameback and we had to make the line from the end bouncer said there's nothing he could do! . after spending $750 in liquor who wouldn't be happy , we were a group of five. But who ever is incharge of these guys sholud give them a class on service, and respect. we are here to get service and spend money, not the other way around. musics good but after 3:30, they just kept repeating it (djgetlive). i would try again on a regular night and come here to tell you what i think about it!
ps: people w/ express passes were waiting online. we were online from 11:30 to 1:30am. while bouncers were letting their friends in, and fooling around, oh! and if you don't find a package 'cause they're all sold out. then try the minimum of 3 bottles for 5 people "bottle service". what are they stupid? or ridiculous.

5 Stars: Best Lounge, Great service, Make reservations (by nydilruba)

My husband and I went here for our 1st wedding anniversary and were looking forward to a great time...and that was exactly what we got. The decor was beautiful with a very warm inviting look. We made reservations and when we told them we needed a separate area for ourselves...they set us up with a Cabana. We were very comfortable and had a great staff that was always available whenever we needed them. We had a great waiter who was very nice and personable. This is a great spot to go for a date or just to hang out with friends. The food was good and so were the drinks...but I wasn't too crazy about the drnks. But overall I think the decor, staff, and the place overall made our evening wonderful. Thanks to everyone at Taj.

1 Stars: Bad taste (by lastchance11)

I have been to few places that left such a bad taste in my mouth but Taj is No 1. The food was nice but I agree with last reviewer that adding %20 is silly and we only had two people. What annoyed me also was the fact we were told to vacate our table at 10.30 for bottle service even though we came for dinner at 9.20. We had just got our main course and were told that we had to finish at 10.30. I was so upset because this was suppose to be a special dinner for us. The music started blaring at 10.00 and it made things worse. We got up from our table and my husband bought to Grey Goose and red Bulls and we were charged I believe $32 and then were told we had to spend $50 on a credit card. My husband went to the atm because there was no way we were tipping on top of that %20 which the bartender said was the rule. Now myself and my husband know the owners and they are really nice girls but this is a shame and it is greedy. The manger explained to us that this is the new Taj well I say bring back the old because that is the only way I am coming back

1 Stars: Not a good experience (by rekhapillai)

I was at Taj for dinner last night, and even though we made a reservation - we were not told that there was an after work special going on - so we could barely hear each other. And then to top it all we were charged a MANDATORY 20% gratuity - for a party of three!! I would have paid the usual 18% voluntarily, but where is the justification in "demanding" it for serving 3 people. When we questioned the charge - the waiter informed us, that we recieved the "wrong" menu - and that all other menus indicated that the 20% gratuity is required. I think that is in extremely poor taste. I must say the food was good. But between the unexpected loud music during dinner and the demand for a tip, I am extremely disappointed and will definetly never come back again.

I was at Taj last Fri Night and was shocked out how friendly and unpretentious the vibe was. I waited in a short line so the doorman could check my ID and no problem getting in. When we walked in the music was hot, the room exotic, and the cocktails delicious. Thanks Taj for making my friday night which is usually tough in the city a real pleasure!

I went to Taj last night after work to meet some friends and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and over all vibe. The bartender was nice enough to explain all the different specialty cocktails on the menu and she even lgave me a little taste test. The music was great and so was the food.
5 Stars: Theee BEST..afterwork party in NYC!!! (by brnz112)

If u r a member of the truly "Grown and S*xy" clique... then Mix & Mingle on the last Thurs of EVERY month is where it's at! This afterwork party used to be at LUSH on Church & Duane but later moved to TAJ because the following was busting at the seams! For those of us who like to come early but don't want to be the first ones there....these folks come to maximize their party experience so they come when doors open!! The music is like "manna from heaven"....bringing back all of the great and nostaligic 80's & 90's R&B, hip hop and reggae oldies but definitely goodies!! If ur worried about the drama factor......there is NONE!! In the 4+ years that this party has been in existence..there has NEVER been a fight..like I said..GROWN and definitely s*xy. Great food, drinks, service, people..what more can u ask for???? I have a great time everytime I go.

5 Stars: Great Restaurant and Lounge! (by cmontesano)

Every year, my best friend and I have a huge birthday bash since our birthdays are not far a part. This year, we thought that it would be a great idea to find a great restaurant that transformed into a lounge, so that our guests would be able to arrive as they please. We came in for a 9 pm reservation, the hostess greeted us very nicely and our dinner was exceptional. The service was great, fast, and our food was delicious. Once dinner was over, the rest of our guests joined and we partied all night until close. The door staff was very nice to my guests. My guests who arrived before 11pm did not have to pay a cover. In order to remain seated at our table, we purchased a few bottles and again our service was exceptional. The music was great and made our evening unforgettable. My friend and I have thrown many parties at many different clubs in the city, but our experience at Taj was fun, easy, and special. I recommind this place for anyone who is looking to have a great dinner then followed by great music!

2 Stars: Worst of New York City (by mandylady)

I agree with the last review that this place is the pits. My girlfriends and I went here last week and were told we were not on the list. I had booked with Taj a week before hand and had confirmed on Friday. Most of my friends were East Indian and we spend money. When we got to the door there was no line and very few people around. We were told by this girl at the door that we were not on the list and that the only way we were gaining entry was to pay cover and then get a table with a two bottles. I told her that I was on the list and that I had confirmed the day before. She said that if I was not on her list then we were not getting in. She was so rude and I felt very upset. I asked her to look at the list again and when I tried to point out my name to her she pulled the list away and said I was not getting in! I use to love Taj and I have been there many times for parties in the past but now I can only say that this place has left a bad taste in my mouth and I will never go back here again and I will make sure all my friends know what they are like. P.S By the way on the night in question my asian friend went in looking for us and said it was only half full so it makes me wonder what was the reason we were stopped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 Stars: Worst Club in NYC (by nyc_swinger)

decided to try this place out on Sat night. It was by far the worst establishement in NYC. The DJ played Top 40s all night long, and the people acted like they have never been to a lounge before. (moshing and playing air guitars on the dance floor?). This place has no business charging a $20 cover and a mandatory $6 coat check. ( I was wearing a blazer!!). I have been to many high end lounges and clubs in the city, please take my advice and avoid this place at all costs.

The place I must say is absolutely gorgeous. Amazing decor, go check out the bathroom as well.. The entire place is just trendy. The waitress was courteous. The drinks are tasty but on the pricy side. The appetizers that they have, are pricey as well in small portions. Pay $10 for fries. Not reasonable. Also if you want to seat by the couches along the wall you make reservations specially if you have a larger group because if you just show up they may move you from there.

3 Stars: OK !!!! Party 21 st (by hipdi21)

Taj is nice with all the nice decorations. The food is A+ but the people who hang out here look like kids! We had dinner here and went outside for a cigeratte break and the promoter or manager wanted us to pay to get back in. When that was fixed we got back to our party and they were trying to rush us of our table telling us there late night reservations were coming in. I have no problem with that because that was explained earlier but when we were standing up for an hour and the table was empty it just left a bad taste in my mouth. What annoyed me even more was the fact one of the bartenders told me I could not run a tab unless I was prepared to spend $50 and after spending $600+ on dinner just was not right. This is not to say its not a nice spot but it does act like a big club on Sat

5 Stars: Great for a birthday party (by mllejeanne)

Going out in new york can be a big headache - especially if you have a large group of people, there are lines at the door, and you just want to have a good time. TAJ was great. I went once before and had a good time, so emailed the event manager to set up a party for my friend. She was so prompt and easy to work with, the a setup our guestlist for 15 people. We had no problems at the door, even though our party arrived at different times, and there were so many people waiting at the door for an event (the line was literally around the corner). The music was great, the bartenders were fine, and overall it was just a great hassle-free, fun time. I highly recommend Taj.

This place looks good but there servers are asleep. My table waited for 30 minutes for our main course's to come out and the waitress seemed like she was asleep. The dj was boring and it was the same music as the sat before.

3 Stars: Average Place (by laetizia123)

I went to Taj on 7/27/2006 with a group of girlfriends and had a good time. The lounge space is great if you get there early. Unfortunately the air conditioning/music & lighting were all off due to a power failure but was resolved pretty quickly by NYC standards. They take all the couches off the floor once it gets crowded, so there isn't much seating. Happy Hour went well and the bartenders were friendly. The music that night was a little too old for my preference, but it was an older crowd, so they have to cater to them. The people were pretty much cool, just friends meeting up to hang...no drama or pretentious people here. I would rate the establishment average since I didn't feel the space, food, drinks were spectacular or different from other places I've visited. It is also next to Duvet and other clubs in case you get bored. My only advice is to get there early so you can enjoy happy hour and just chilling out before the afterwork crowd comes in. Finally, the food was nothing to write home about. It was expensive and from the looks of what people ordered, quite plain and unappealing.

4 Stars: Was here 2 times since May, both nights were enjoyable. (by callmezo)

I was here for 2 different birthday parties, and both times enjoyed myself. Being on the list at the door, a very short wait and got in no problem. The place fills up at night, a bit crowded walking through everyone dancing to get to the bathrooms. I was able to go up to the loft for the birthday parties, which was great since it didn't fill up and overlooks the main bar area. Music was a popular mix of modern dance which everyone enjoyed. A younger mid 20s crowd it seemed. The bartender in the loft area was very friendly and social (and cute), as was the bathroom attendant who directs traffic in the hall to the bathrooms. Overall I've enjoyed myself here both Saturday nights.

This past Friday night was my friends B-day. She wanted to go to a really chill place With lots of hot people and great music. I suggested Taj, and let me tell you we had a blast. With the sexy bartenders and the cute Waiters. We had great service every step of the way. Sleek drinks and Great food. We ate and hung out untill the resturant evolved and took shape around the beautiful people in side. This had to be one of the best experiences I have ever had. Just wanted to say thanks for such a great night :)

5 Stars: SO MUCH FUN!!!! (by justin181)

Oh please! Do not listen to this person. The only thing that I will agree on is the place looks great. I went there for dinner and then late night and I had the best time. B+T? What place is not anymore on the weekend. I don't think this person should be writing a review... doesn't sound like they have gone out in over 6 yrs. As far as the music, i was there on a sat nite and the music was better then most places. The DJ was very good. Yes he played everything from hip hop to 80's, but if I recall every hot spot does now. If you want something different go to crobar for House Music! Oh and 2 last things, the food and speacialty cocktails were incredible, and the bartenders and waiters were very helpfull with any questions I had. TRUST ME.... GO.

5 Stars: Good Times at Taj (by wapak)

We've been going to Taj for over one year now for its exceptional environment (it's a lush, warmly lit, gorgeous space) and fantastic, friendly staff. Located amidst 21st Street's many clubs, Taj does a great job of balancing class with what the crowd wants.
The bartenders are fast, serving up good drinks. The DJs are always great.

1 Stars: Ugh- I had a terrible experience here (by for_real)

The place itself is nice looking and in a good area for club hopping. But the positives end there. Dodgy cheeseball crowd. Hate to be cliche but it was B&T to the fullest. If you are into that type of thing great, but if you're not into greasy college kids from Jers grinding up on you avoid this place! DJ was eh. Hip hop from the 90s mixed with the typical Come on Ilene trax. Drinks were poorly made. Coat check was mandatory. It took 20 minutes to check my coat and about a 40 minute line to get it. Bouncer guy was smoking inside.. are you kidding??? This place is pretty low class all around. Can't wait for it to close so another better lounge/club will go in since the only thing I like about it was location and the room itself.

1 Stars: YUCK! Don't go here!!! (by sundoori)

I had my 29th b-day party here on Saturday. A mgr promised me no cover < midngt / $10 after, & a 'VIP guest list' so we could skip the line. Instead, the rude & completely unreasonable bouncer didn't even have my list, told me that the deal was *before 11pm*, & we now pay *$20ppsn*. He scathed me (ON MY B-DAY!) for not getting there by 11pm, even though this wasnt what we discussed, & that now we had to buy a table to get in. I was literally in tears w/the slew of frustrated messages from friends & colleagues (visiting from out of town) who got turned away or told to wait most left. Moreover, the music was terrible; it totally didn't make up for things. In short, TAJ COMPLETELY RUINED MY B-DAY.

The ambience of Taj is magnificent and truly lives up to its name.
HOWEVER A WORD TO THE WISE: the service is truly not up to par and brings the level of this place way down. I threw a private party there and was told I would be getting the VIP section. Not only was I not given the section when I showed up but the place actually kicked my party out after two hours- they had neglected to mention they were
holding another private party that night. If you want to be in a beautiful setting and
be treated in kind then by all means go there. If not, I would hightail it to another of NYC's fine establishments.

4 Stars: Go for ambience and drinks (by wowololo)

The ambience is what makes this restaurant. Read some reviews re: small portions. Hate to say this but I have to believe these are early 20 year olds who are writing this. The portions are fine. They are well sized. But the food, overall is just average. The drinks are well done - and the ambience is great. You can't get that ambience easily. So it's worth it for a date - for mood - but if you want really great food - there are far better places.

I've been coming here since they opened a couple years ago. The ambience is perfect - beautiful, harem-like drapes and pillows - and the Indian fusion menu is just wonderful.

I took my boyfriend to Taj for his birthday on Saturday. I was impressed by the reviews on citysearch and thought it would a good place to dine. I had reservation for 8pm. I figured from the review I should reserve a place early. We get there and decided we did not like the seating the host chose for us. She said everything else was reserved. Even though it was only 3 other tables dining. Anyway, our waiter Jesse moved us over to one of the separate seatings.I was very suprised how empty this place was on a Saturday night and we were there till 11:30 pm. I had the Red Snapper, which was very tasty. Say no to the mango chutney and raita. Beef is good. Servings are quite small. It looked more lounge than restaurant. Ambience is good, but I would definitely recommend going for drinks not dinner.

4 Stars: Great Time (by ltimmel)

My honey and I had a blast people watching while nibbling on our dinner at this place. Funny that the last reviewer was there the same night we were and our experience was much more positive. Really liked the food and the management was very friendly. Ambiance was great, very cool.

1 Stars: Don't go! (by 3530)

One of worst experiences I've had at a NYC restaurant. After appetizers, service completely disappeared. Dinner came 1.5 hours after appetizers. No explanations at all. Bus boy actually cleared away our table setting at one point because we were waiting so long. Dinner finally showed - cold. Is this restaurant Indian fusion?? I would have never known - food was totally bland. Finally, after paying a pricey tab we were ushered out side door past 2 huge dumpsters. Perfect ending to a really bad experience! Definitely skip dinner this is not a restaurant! Are the $10+ drinks are worth the money? NO! They are pretty watered down. There are too many restaurants and lounges in NYC to waste your time at this one.

2 Stars: Pretentious and unsatisfying (by Flames21)

Don't get me wrong, the decor is gorgeous. But unless you're rich, pretentious and anorexic, it's not worth it. My boyfriend and I went there this weekend for our anniversary. We each ordered a cocktail, an appetizer and an entree. While everything tasted fairly good, the portions were insulting. $24 for 6 bite-sized pieces of duck, a little pile of green stuff, and some whitish unidentifiable mashed-up stuff, that looks like it was squeezed out of a tube? After eating a $100 dinner, we were both still hungry. We'd been planning on having dessert, but we decided we didn't want to give these people any more money. Especially not $12 for 2 bites of chocolate souflee. We walked to the village and had each had a crepe for about $5. The crepes were more filling than an entire meal at Taj, and they were delicious!

Definitely one of the most beautiful places in the city. My girlfriends and I were there a couple of Saturdays ago having something late dinner and dancing.
3 Stars: great food...horrific service (by tjb1970)

if you have a few hours to spare, then this place will be fine. the food is excellent. the red snapper and the halibut are both fantastic. the naan is average, but the chutneys served with it are very good. unfortunatley, the service leaves a bad taste in ones mouth. not only did we not get our 'bombay' fries until after the entire meal, but we then had to wait nearly an hour for our inattentive waiter to bring our check, and only after we flagged him down. overall, worth checking out for the food, but be prepared to be ignored.

Did a quick citysearch for this gem.
Although it was rather quiet due to a NYC blizzard, I had a very pleasant experience. We were charmed by the well informed and engaging bartender and wonderfully spoiled by the waitstaff but still left to ourselves to enjoy the meal, without too much fuss. Kudos! And the cocktails were amazing!
Great for dates as there are some wonderfully romantic nooks where one is seated side by side.

Had My Send-Off Party at TAJ last night and was totally impressed-- Trendy Spot with no pretention!! My friends thought I was lame, but I asked what CD was playing. We already thought Josh the bartender was too cute, but he was also happy and charming and introduced us to the manager who went and faded the music to something else to get a title for little old me. Cucumber martinis are awsome, but beware for the mornig after.

My friends and I heard a great deal about this place and tried it out. the decor and ambience when you first walk in is breathtaking...we were greeted by a gracious tall hostess/mngr. and were escorted to a plush corner booth on a busy night (wed). Our server was great but our meal was even better! the food was impressive and we all eat out every night and were blown away....several cocktails(which were also amazing) into out dinner...the vibe starting getting a little livelier and the bar scene grew...can;t say enough aboutnthis place except we loved....will become a regular haunt!

3 Stars: Get drinks elsewhere (by lucabrasi)

My wife took me here for my birthday and the food was really nice. It wasn't very crowded (Sat night 8:30pm) and the food arrived promptly. The decor is really something as well, the service, well I guess I could say it's average.

Maybe I'm really out of touch with reality, but I think $11 for a gin/tonic is absolutely obscene! If it were a large glass or if I could have TASTED the gin, that's a different story.

Having just returned from Bourbon Street, I thought I had experienced the steepest drink prices in the US, but this is worse than N'awlins, where at least the expensive drinks cover wonderful live music.

So, get drinks elsewhere, have a nice dinner here, and stop by the package store on the way home where you can get a bottle of Bombay Sapphire for the cost of 2 drinks here.

1 Stars: Worst service ever! (by caspase9)

The service here is the worst I've ever encountered in my life! - And I've been in NYC for 15 years.. Although we had a reservation, our B-day party was seated about 45 minutes late. Our waiter was snobby and outright rude; he said getting us drinks after we paid our bill would be 'too much of a hassle for him'. Some members of our party were not let in - even after arguing with the doormen, who were rude as well; one threatened me, while the other wanted to pocket an extra $10 for our friends to be allowed in, who were guests for our dinner reservation. I highly recommend staying away from this place.

Although we made reservations, we were seated 20 minutes later. The food was good but unfortunately the service was horrible. First of all the waiter rushed us to order since he said the kitchen would be close, but an hour later they brought food to another group. I guess that was his attempt to turn over tables quickly . Another thing, the waiter gave us the wrong check and it took him awhile to straighten it out. They really need to work on their customer service.

5 Stars: Amazing place for a Bday party (by sonatanyc)

Had my Bday party there on Saturday and it was fantastic! My group of 15 had a dinner first (the food was excellent, partcularly the lamb!), and than we stayed for cocktails (inventor of those Rose and Elderflower martinis is a genius!). The music was great and crowd very hip and cool. Now all my friends want to have their parties there.
Would strongly recommend it, not just for atmosphere and crowd, but also food and those amazing cocktails. However, if you decide to have your party there, make sure to give your guestlist to the management - otherwise your friends who come late may not be able to get in.

3 Stars: Taj (by rgaida)

What can I say about Taj. First impressions are said to be key. Well this place delivers in this department. The decor, style, and feel of Taj are great; I was very excited about it from the moment I walked in. Unfortunately it is all downhill from there. The service is cold and unfriendly, which I have come to expect from places like this, but what I can't tolerate is being rushed. The food was good, nothing that will win any accolades, but rather pricey for the quality. As the night rolls on the place turns into a bar/lounge so the wait staff is constantly rushing you to eat up and move out, not the kind of atmosphere you want for the price you are paying for your entree. Overall I would skip dinner and hit this place for its bar/lounge atmosphere.

2 Stars: ehh.... (by canadian_bacon)

Fusion restaurants confuse me. Either its done extremely well and very innovative or its down right robbery. This place was robbery! Service was good up until the point the staff wanted to seat 8, 8!!!! of us at a small round table not much larger than a studio sized coffee table. This guy who looked like the mgr actually tried to point out empty space between us. I guess he figuredwhen the the food came, we turn our backs to each other to create elbow room so we can feed ourselves. Portions were justlarge enough, for a 2 year old and it was nothing special. (Dusting some curry powder on chicken and adding spinach on the side doesn't make it Indian fusion!) Cool decor though, but not much of a dance floor. Pretty popular now, but it will eventually fall by the wayside as people start to recognize its cons.

4 Stars: Very nice place! (by tludtke)

I was pleasantly surprising going to this restaurant on my first visit to New York City. The atmosphere is great, and the lounge is full of beautiful people. The chicken is wonderful and the service is above average. The only down side is that it is kind of pricey but I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you are looking to impress on a first date.

4 Stars: A Surprisingly Good Combination (by hkizcute)

There are many "in" places in the City that you fit the mold of 1) great ambience 2) so-so or worse food and 3) snooty service. Fortunately, Taj is NOT one of these places. We went to Taj on a Tuesday night, at the same time a private event was going on for a magazine. I figured we had run into our worst nightmare. As it turned out, the food was very good, with the snapper, the lobster, and the lamb chops all excellent choices, as well as the scallop and shrimp appetizers (you really need to order one of each/person to get enough food). Even more surprising was the warm and friendly service, from the hostess to the wait and busing staff! Yes, the portions are a bit small and it is not cheap, but Taj offers you a great venue for a fun and satisfying evening.

5 Stars: Great surprise (by mdrodent)

I took my boyfriend there for a birthday dinner as a surprise and he loved it! The food was great (bombay fries, lobster, tenderloin) and the drinks were very original - favorite bar drinks with the restaurant's personal touch. The service was friendly. Our seat was so comfortable (a couch with lots of pillows) that we almost fell asleep. The ambience was both romantic and posh at the same time.

5 Stars: Beautiful spot (by cara104)

This is a beautiful place with great ambiance. The staff is very friendly and the service is great. The food is a bit pricey, but if you pick the right things its worth it. The scallops appetizer is AMAZING, but the duck I had for an entree was just ok. The music got a bit loud around 9pm, but otherwise, the dim lighting and decor gave it a very sexy feel. I loved this place and would recommend it for anyone who loves good food and a great time with friends.

4 Stars: Great night out (by wol4en)

Great directly after work. Went on a monday at about 6 empty but was filling in as I left at 9. Gret comfortable atmosphere, quiet ambient music until the DJ got there then it got a little too loud. Good food for the price, on a date expect to spend no less then $100. Service was a little pushy, especially since there was no one in there.

3 Stars: Taj - Expensive food and fun! (by d_sherin)

This place can be great or terrible, it depends what you are looking for. The music is loud, especialy if they are doing a 'show'. You can't even talk when they are doing a show. The food is EXCELLENT! I was with a group of 6, and every entree and app was great - the dessert was OK. Drinks are way over priced at $10 for a stoly-o and cran, and the menu is a pricey too. Atmosphere is very fun. Service can be slow. If you don't mind spending $ check it ou!

3 Stars: bad service and small portions (by ejohnsto)

.....heard about this new restaurant and gave it a try. After the maitre'd left us in the entry hall for 5 minutes we found our way to the bar to wait for our fourth. When we were ready to be seated, we had to ask 4 different waitstaff, each of whom looked confused/shocked by our request. We were finally seated at a lounge table and when we asked to sit at a 'real dinner table' were told we needed to specify that when making a dinner reservation. The place was not full, however they refused to move us. The food was fine, but nothing extravagant, the saving grace was the wine (which was overpriced) and the menu limited. I wll inever go back to eat here, which is too bad because the decor was nice.

4 Stars: Beautiful Interior (by toki)

Came here for a friend's birthday this weekend and had a good time. The food is a supposed to be a fusion of Indian and American, but it was mostly American fare with a bit of spice. The dishes were also on the smaller side, and there weren't many menu choices. The best part were the beautiful round lounges that surprisingly fit many people and allowed for intimate conversations.

5 Stars: WOW (by Hope)

This spot is amazing. The food was incredible - the lobster dish, the chicken dish, and the lamb dish were so delicious and creative - I have been to the city's best restaurants and am not usually so impressed. The fact that Taj has apparently only been open for three weeks and has been booked solid speaks for itself. This is a must try!!!!

5 Stars: a new hot spot (by coolyool)

I went to Taj for dinner on Saturday nite and stayed there afterwards to sample the nightlife. The food was a better than expected fusion of Indian and American cuisines. My main complaint is that the entree portions were somewhat small. However, the prices were very reasonable. Also, half of the dinner tables are at a regular eating height, while the rest are at coffee table height, which made it difficult to eat. The service was great and the waitstaff was pretty attractive. After dinner, the place got crowded pretty quickly. There were a lot of extremely beautiful models present, but mostly accompanied by male models. The bottle prices were slightly absurd, with a going rate of $350 just for ketel one. The music on saturday nite was some very average house music. All in all, the place is pretty hot and should have some staying power.

Great Food, Great Service, Cool Place. It has only been open about 2 weeks. Food was infused with amazing flavors.
