Hosted a birthday party on the mezzanine level with about 25 guests. Everything went as expected. We brought our own cupcakes and cake, they provided the bottles and hors d'oeuvres. Sure there is a cake cutting fee (to be expected in NYC), but they did cut the cake quite well. The music this evening was pretty good. Some 90's hip-hop/reggae mixed in with some contemporary beats kept us dancing, bumping and if you're too cool, head nodding.
Our server, the lovely Dee Dee, was great to work with. Despite a longer than expected start on the initial wave of hors d'oeuvres, she kept up with the drink orders, kept us tipsy and seemed pleasant throughout. Patrycja, the hostess, was very pleasant to deal with as well. After a minor hookah mishap, things kept right on rolling and we were comped with another, no problems.
I would definitely come back as a civilian (not as the party host) so I could get as hammered as my guests were that evening!
Came here last weekend for my girlfriends graduation celebrationThe food was pretty good, the service-not bad either...
We had a good table that was comfortable for our large party. We went later in the evening knowing that it turns into a club. Our folks were in for a surprise because they werent prepared for the restaurant to go full scale club toward the end of our late dinner (10:15pm or so).
My gf and our friends partied till the early morning. Good times.
TAJ IS MORE THEN A PLACE TO PARTY! CHRIS IS THE MAN HANDS DOWN! THE MUSIC IS ALWAYS ON POINT, THE BAR STAFF IS COOL! OVERALL THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO! ITS GOOD TO PARTY WITH THE GROWN AND SEXY! NO DRAMA JUST A PLACE ABOVE THE REST!
THANKS TO CHRIS AND THE STAFF!
~ FACE THA MUSIC!!
Great Place to Take friends you known for a well. Pricey drinks. The food is good. So good I took my personal trainer, Lopez from midtown personal trainers with me.\r
I hate him but I didn't over eat
Recently went here the other day with some friends for a night out on with some friends and had the Madras Jerk lamb chop which was AMAZING i also tried the spiced wings which were also pretty good.
Storm PR Agency & I recently organized an event for NBC's new reality show ""The Great American Health Challenge NYC"" and I decided to contact Taj Lounge via my A good friend. I always loved Taj Lounge but I never hosted and event there. I must say, I am glad I chose this venue. They ambiance is incredible. Their Asian inspired decor sets the mood just right. When you walk in it is obvious that the staff loves the venue just as much as the people they tend to daily. The management was very attentive and made sure that every detail of my plan was executed precisely. I have coordinated and hosted many events and this was by far the best event to date. Taj lounge was even gracious enough to help me find a liquor sponsor for my event. It doesn't get much better than that. If you are looking to make a good impression and have a successful event at a classy manhattan lounge...... I would definitely suggest working with Taj lounge. I am getting ready to work with them again real soon! If you would like to see pictures of my event for NBC please review my pictures on FaceBook by searching for Walter Lucky Church Simons. Have a wonderful day.
Wat a great spot to party at. the music was good, the appetizers were tasty especially the taj spice wings, my friends n i ordered drinks n they were all mixed very well, the bouncers let us stand on the couches unlike other places in the city. lets just save wen the nght was ova i did get home safely. :) cant wait to go back next thursday
l love Taj lounge because the simply have the best deals on bottles in comparison to other venues. my friends and i booked with them to celebrate our graduation and they offered us 2 bottles of Ciroc for $350 including tax and gratuity. I personally thought that was bomb b/c 1 bttle alone was 375; and the best part of all was that they let us select the Ciroc flavors which usually cost more. The bottle host were soo cute they were dressed up and brought us sparklers, i loved it, i loved it, i loved it!
I went to taj this saturday and i had a really good time. a few of us came early so that we could have dinner before the late night. dinner was pretty good...we mostly had drinks and apps tho. for late night i did bottle service and had a few more friends join me. We got sparklers and everything....our waitress was BEAUTIFUL!! I'll def be back

Visit on 1/22/11. Came for friends birthday party, had to wait for 10 minutes or so outside, twenty dollar cover, mandatory coat check and pat down.
Staff is reasonable, coat check is painfully slow. Drinks are expensive, but no more so than other nyc clubs, if anything somewhat less.
Music is terrible. DJ apparently never learned how to transition from one song to the next, half a minute of silence between each song, almost like the guy was using cassette tapes. Acoustics were terrible, my ears are still ringing the next day.
Bottom line: Go somewhere else, your ears and wallet will thank you.
Get ready for the cool and sultry vibe of this exotic venue on New Years Eve ! It's not too late to come and enjoy this awesome party.
I had a great time here tonight. It was officially my second time being spent here. The first time a friend of mine was performing here after I received some bad news, so unfortunately, I didn't get to enjoy the full experience that time.
I came here tonight to celebrate the DVD Release of the movie I'm in, ""The Big Shot Caller"". I must say that the service was good, there were no problems at the door after making things clear of who I was and that I was on the list.
I would say that this place attracts a positive crowd that purely wants to have a good time and dance; maybe also share meaningful conversation, but most of all MOVE. It isn't one of those places that you have to worry about people rubbing up on you and feeling nasty and sweaty. The decor is great and surprises you since it doesn't ""seem"" like much from the outside. The bouncers were very nice and informative instead of the ""I'm in charge"" types.
I give this place an A to an A+. Great live music w/ Willy Torres and nice people! Unfortunately, I didn't get to try the food since I was so busy on the dancefloor...but I take that as a good sign!
Ok so who knew that an INDIAN place owned by IRISH people would make great SOUL FOOD! lol It was a really good change from the regular eggs and toast from the deli around my house. oh and did i forget to mention that i got to watch the GIANTS and JETS game! Yesterday was the last brunch so im sad i missed it all year!! But yea it was an awesome time! Tony Rock and Tocarra were there which was kind of cool....and the french toast??? Sooooo good!! i hope they bring it back because I FREAKIN HAD A BLAST!!!
I must say, that I love Taj, I have the best time everytime I go. If you are thinking about throwing a party you have to contact ED/NorthernStarEvents. I have been to clubs where you make a reservation and you get there and they act like they don't know who you are. Well not with ED, the first time I went to Taj was for my birthday, and I went back for Holloween, I am having another party there for with ED as the promoter. Thanks again NorthernStarEvents.
I'm not a club person. At all. I can count the amount of times I've been to a club on one hand and still have a few fingers left over. So I'll preface my review with that.
Being said, Taj wasn't as bad as I expected. We got there around 10:30 on a saturday night. Was empty inside initially and we didn't have to pay the cover. About an hour later the place was packed and there was a line otuside. Nice. Fun atmosphere. A bit small, but they made sure it didn't get overcrowded. The DJ does play a lot of 90's stuff as a few others have mentioned, but as the night went on there was some more current stuff played. Drinks are overpriced, but you expect it from a hot place like this in this city.
Am I suddenly going to become a clubber? no. But a place like this a surprisingly good time every so often.
I know this place has had some mixed reviews, but I went here for a going away party celebration and did not have to worry about the main things that may discredit a good review.
1.The line: If you are on a guest list you don't have to worry about the line, so make sure you know people.
2. The cover: Since the party was booked, we did not have to pay a cover
3. The crowd: The club was already packed by 11:30, so make sure you get there before midnight. There was a mix of races, mainly early to late twenty age range. About 2-3 male female ratio
4. The AC: They made sure to have the air on full blast, so I was not sweaty nor had to worry about funky body odor.
5. The Music: My only complaint was that there was not enough dancehall reggae. The DJ did a good job or old school, hip hop and krunk and pop, but the reggae and reggaeton were lacking.
6. The drinks: We had a bottle of grey goose and pineapple, cranberry and orange juice chasers, so I was able to make the drinks just the way I like it.
This is place is hot, a definite party spot !
Unlike the person before me i had an AMAZING bday at Taj! i googled nice lounges and went to Taj's website and really liked the room. i sent in a reservation and someone in the office got back to me in like 2days. I sat up dinner with my REAL friends at 8:30 on a saturday night. The food was really good. The lady manager came over and gave me and my girls a shot on the house because we had to wait for our table to be bussed b4 we could sit. Dinner was great tho! afterwards i had a guest list for other ppl that i didnt really want to have dinner with. They all came after dinner and i even got a comp champagne because i had like 20 or 25 ppl show. It was a really good bday! the dj said happy birthday alot too! The only thing is it does get a little crowded so next time i will def be getting a table. Other than that the dinner was great, staff very friendly, and drinks great. I will def be back soon :) thanks!
Pros: good music, fun time
Cons: A lil crowded
I contacted Premier List to organize a 30th birthday party for my fiance. A representative suggested Taj Lounge as an appropriate venue. I received emails and was told in future conversations that men would be charged no cover charge if they arrived before 11 pm and female guests would receive free admission before 12am.The cover charge for guests arriving after 12 am was $20. I was also told that a table would be reserved for our party and the guest of honor and me would receive free admission at any time. I was told to inform guests that they should ask for Cassie, the door girl who represents their company at the lounge or ask for the premier list to ensure free or reduced admission. 3 female guests arrived at Taj Lounge at 11:45 pm and were told that admission was $25.I told her that the guests were unable to gain free admission and she claimed that no one asked for her. I contacted my friends and instructed them to ask for her and the premier list. I identified Cassie upon arrival. The other individual was a male representative of Taj Lounge. I again told her that guests had informed me that they had asked for her and she again declared that she had not been contacted by anyone. I asked her if I could identify my friends present on the line. She instructed me to get on the line. I joined my friends on the line. I informed the Taj Representative that I was on the premier list and my fiance and I were supposed to get free admission with free admission for guests before 12 am. The Taj Representative informed me that admission was $25 and free admission was only an option with the purchase of bottle service. I asked him why wouldn't he honor the premier list offer and he responded that ""Promoters say what they want"". Cassie also responded as if free admission for me and my fiance was ludicrous. My friends later informed me that they had actually spoken to Cassie directly and she chose to not acknowledge nor offer any assistance to guests who followed premier list's instructions.
Cons: Overpriced, unprofessional staff
I went here this past Saturday for dinner. The food was phenomenal and the liquor selection wasn't half bad either. The general manager was nice enough to buy my table's after dinner drinks which was very generous. The decor was also very warm and comfortable. Our table was in the corner and the seats were comfortable. The one drawback to this place was I guess at night it turns into a club or something and it sort of felt like they were itching for us to leave. The server informed us about the reservation policy with table turnover though so next time i'll make reservations instead of just stopping by. But overall I had a great time and the food was well worth the 10ish turnover time.
Pros: great food
My wife and I got married here!!!!! IT was AMAZING!!!!They customized the room regarding our wants and needs, and were able to use their candles, tablecloths, etc... for NO extra charge!! Very accommodating! Every detail that we agreed on with Delores was done the exact way the night of!! And the waitstaff was warm and I always had food in my mouth and a drink in my hand! thumbs up to these guys!! We will def be back after our honeymoon!!!!!!
Pros: Excellent Staff
I tend to find myself going to Taj pretty often for afterwork events and just recently started going for the late night Friday and Saturday parties. For afterwork, I especially like that they have a food menu. On Friday (and maybe Saturday too), I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they have 2 for 1 drink specials on anything! That's right, premium and super premium alcohol included! My girls and I got 2 French Martini's and 2 Grey Goose and pineapples for $26! We also got there early enough to get some of the unreserved seating and held it down the entire time we were there by dancing in front of it (and we did a lot of dancing). All in all, I had a great time.
Pros: mixed crowd, drink specials, serves food afterwork, seating
TAJ 2 IS THE SHIZNIT! I WENT UNDER ""theKONGLIST"" AND MY GIRL & I GOT IN FOR FREE (even though we got there after midnight lol)...WE HAD THE TIME OF OUR LIVES! MUSIC WAS AWESOME! CROWD WAS MIXED & MELLOW! SATIFISFACTION GUARANTEED!
Pros: MIXED CROWD
My girls & I go to TAJ II almost every other Friday and we can't get enough of it! The lounge has been renovated and it has a Middle Eastern feel to it...there's a little bit of everything there: cabanas, couches, tables, dance floor, DJ booth, upper level that over-looks the lower-level...it is intimate, cozy & fun!!!
Pros: Great ambiance
Had my friend's bday party here. Mgmt is very good, they send you a emails that goes over what you need to do if u want to reserve a space for a bday party. If you bring in 20 people or more, they willlet the bday person drink free all night (via a wristband), but they wont give u the special til 20 really show (manager/doorman keeps track i guess). They also reserve a table/seat for your party, no bottle service required just a table charge which was nice. The space is good. music was decent, changed from trance to hip hop to 80s to dance, etc. didnt like the 1 of the bartenders tho, was slow and and took forever to get a drink. however, i thought mgmt and events ppl did a good job making sure our party was comfortable and its a good place to dance or mingle. would recommend for bday parties and just to come hang out.
If I'm looking for an awesome time, I can always count on Taj on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays. The DJs are right on with their music choices and everyone there dances all night. Really can't complain about a thing!
Went here for my birthday and had a great time!! Called alot of places and because of the amount of people(12), every where else wanted to do a pre-fixe menu and ""special event"". Taj made it very easy for me and all of my friends to just enjoy and have a good time.Great food, great drinks and a very responsive staff! I had a very memorable night and was glad that I celebrated here! Thank you for the professionalism and the hospitality! ALL of you guys we awesome!!
Pros: good food good drinks, responsive staff
Cons: nothing to say
Stopped in for Brunch this past Superbowl Sunday with a couple of friends and had the BEST meal EVER! Sundays they have a Soul Food Brunch menu from 12-7pm that is absolutely delicious. The BBQ wings are a must try as well as the Shrimp Po Boy Sandwich. Other things on the menu included Chicken & Waffles, French Toast, scrumptious Tilapia and more!! Definitely try the Peach Sangria or the Blood Orange Mimosa - so tasty. Our server Jackie was especially sweet & made sure we were well taken care of. We ended up staying to watch the game and found out they also had a Superbowl Menu! We ordered the wings.....again.
Pros: Delicious food, tasty drinks, fast & friendly staff
Cons: Brunch served only on Sundays
Last month i went to Taj for their Monday Salsa night. Must i say, it was the best experience ever. Before the actual dance lesson my friends and i sat to eat and the service was great! Our waiter Farh was sooo handsome, with his high spirits, and sparky personality brought excitement to the begining of our night. \r
This is def a place i'm going to be coming back to. \r
New Years Eve Party, here we come!!!! =)
I had a great night two weeks ago @ Taj. They were very courteous and extremely efficient w/ taking care of me. I did bottle service and was taken care of quickly, as were my guests. There was a line but we skipped everyone via the VIP/Bottle line. Once i was inside, the decor and atmosphere were both awesome. The DJ kept me dancing!!!! Service was great. I will definitely be back!!
Pros: Great Music & Good Service
Every year we have a holiday party which is usually boring and no1 wants to go here. But this year we had it at Taj instead of a stuffy ""ball room"" type of place. The DJ rocked and every1 got really tipsy *AWESOME OPEN BAR* The buffet dinner was cool and we all had a really good time. Next year i hope the holiday party is as fun as this year cuz im sure way more ppl will come!
Pros: Excellent Service
Cons: Open bar ended too soon!
We had a great time here at Taj 2nite. We stumbled upon it this Tuesday because it is usually the last thursday of the month but we are glad we did. We met one of the promoters named Ted and he invited us to next the next party he has at Taj as well as some of his other parties. This was a great kick off to the Christmas holiday.
Pros: Nice Crowd and Good Music
This has to be the worst place I've ever gone to. I rather go to the Ghetto China Club than this place again. For start, they don't give you all information when you call them. When I called them two weeks ago the receptionist didn't mention anything about guys paying cover or their door policy. Also, get ready to stand outside for no good reason. We waited over 90 minutes outside and decided to go somewhere else. While waiting, I ask the bouncers if they will let people in and got a ""yeah, don't worry"". I don't understand why they would have people wait outside without any chance of them getting in. If youre looking for a place to hang out and have fun with your friends stay away from Taj. But if you like standing 2 hours outside in the cold just to go to an overcrowded and small room, Taj is the spot for you.
Pros: At least there are other places to go on 21st street.
Cons: Bouncers, venue and service.
I don't write reviews but after this experience I feel the need! The line was terrible and when you reserve a table you should be seated immediately. The crowd was not selective and anybody with any sort of dress was inside and I think ten percent was good looking. Alot of pushing and shoving was the norm for the night and it seemed that nobody had manners. Our waitress seemed almost annoyed we were only doing two bottles and tried to get us to drink our bottles quickly so we could move as they had other tables waiting she said. When I told her that we had the table all night and we were taking our time we were told that quote ""We will see about that"". Very sad that this is the state of this business. We then discoved that our friends were charged even though we were told there was no cover for our party and when I confronted the doorman they told me it was the promoters rules and not theres. Very poor Night had by all and will not return here.
Pros: Not Very Many
Cons: Crowded, Door Policy and Rude Employee!
A few friends and I went to Taj last Saturday night! The service I must say was pretty good. We paid $300 for two bottles of Moet... We didn't have to wait in line, free admission, and free coat check. The tables upstairs were too small...The music was COOL.. It was overcrowded...
Way dissapointing. And such a rip off. I expected much better with so many good reviews. \r
Had my b-day party here last night. Huge mistake, DON'T DO IT! Arrived early (11:30) and still had trouble at the door. Apparently a $600 table reservation doesn't matter. We were instructed to wait in the ""line"" which was just a mob on the sidewalk, took 20 minutes to get in.\r
Once inside, there was a mandatory coat check ($3 per item). The decor was non-existent, they just turned off all the lights in attempt to create ""ambiance"". Can't believe I spent so much money at this dump. The pics online are really decieving.\r
The music was just OK, mostly old school hip hop, felt like I was at a wedding for a while. The crowd was just TRASHY. Hoochies in Forever 21 dresses barely covering ther lady parts, showing off all thier cellulite. Skeevy dudes just STANDING on the dance floor. \r
Was emailing with the promoter, Chris AC, for two weeks. What a joke. He promised ""no door drama"" and any one on my guest list would not have to wait in line. LIES! A group of friends who arrived later (12:30) were told to go to the back of line, which was of course an hour long at that point. He also said we would have a table on the upper level with plenty of room for my party of 12-15 ppl. Nope! We got shoved into one of the small tables downstairs with seating for only 4 ppl.\r
I managed to have a decent night only because I was with my friends. In short, I will never, ever go back here. You should not go either!\r
Cons: TRASHY crowd
I went here for my birthday last month. I had a good time only because I was with my friends but it would have been much better had we gone somewhere else. The music was boring and it killed my dance buzz. Besides the music, the place was okay. If I had paid a cover charge, I would have been pissed that I spent money to get into this place. I don't think I am ever going back and I don't recommend it.
Pros: Location. Other places to turn to that are near by.
Cons: Music Sucks
Ok so who knew that an INDIAN place owned by IRISH people would make great SOUL FOOD! lol It was a really good change from the regular eggs and toast from the deli around my house. oh and did i forget to mention that i got to watch the GIANTS and JETS game! Yea ill be back next sunday, gonna bring the guys instead of the wife next week!!
Ummm the place was pretty cool. They sent out thank you letters today to say thank you for having my party here last night, that's pretty cool. I've had a few parties for myself and friends and this is the first place that emailed me EVER to say thank you! we didnt even get bottle service and they still said thank you. So i'm leaving a review because they were nice enough to thank me for coming to their cool spot. So thank you Taj lounge for having me and my party!
I never write reviews, but I celebrated my 40th birthday with friends, co-workers, and family @ Taj II last thursday, and I was moved to write THIS review. Every aspect of our evening was perfect. Our event coordinator Eddie, was phenomenal. He was professional, attentive, and true to his word he ensured that we would have a great time. Charles our bartender was a great sport, and Heather was terrific in meeting the needs of my guests. Our party was in the mezzanine, and it was spacious with great views of the club. The platters of food were plentiful and tasty. I will certainly return again and again. Kudos to Eddie and his staff. You guys are the truth!
Pros: Service, Food, Space, Music
i helped my best friend plan his birthday party at taj this saturday and ""due to building issues"" we had to move our party. the reservationist called us and told us that their capacity was 75 people!! we thought we were screwed but then she offered to send us to their other club katra. she offered us a free table and a free bottle of champagne for all of our troubles and we also got to invite more people. she was really nice and made us feel like everything was going to be alright.\r
my best friend had the BEST time ever and is probably nursing a nasty hangover right now. they really took care of us and made sure everything was perfect. even though we had originally planned to go to taj everything worked out in the end. hopefully next time we'll be at taj.
Pros: nice staff
Cons: they moved our party
I came to Taj for the first time on Friday night for my friend's birthday dinner and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The waiter not only gave us the dinner menu but the bar menu as well so we had more choices! The Taj Wings are spectacular. They are spicy yet sweet and the Bombay Fries were so good!! I had the Pomegranate Chicken for dinner and it was perfectly cooked and the pomegranate glaze was just right. I definitely am going back for dinner, or just for the Taj Wings because they're so addictive!!\r
I just wish the cops hadn't messed everything up! We were having a great time and the music was great and then they had to move the crowd out due to a capacity issue or something. This is why Taj lost 1 star. The staff was really nice and accomodating and very apologetic and they gave us a few suggestions on where to go and we ended up next door at Duvet and got in for free because they knew what was happening at Taj.\r
All in all we had a great night even with the cops trying to shut the place down and I will be coming back soon
Pros: great food, great service, great decor!
So I'm not a real fan of going out because I hate super crowed places, long lines, and promoters that lie. So when my friends told me we were goin out I wasn't too excited. We were told 2 for 1 drinks and free until midnight on our guestlist, to my shock when we got in FOR FREE there actually were 2 for 1 DRINKS! That really made my night, plus the fact that there was a really sexy bachelorette party down the bar from us. I have to say that i really had a good time. The drinks were a little pricey but they were strong and good so it was worth the price. All in all i had a great time. Still not a ""club"" person but i can really see my self coming back to this place very soon!!
Pros: 2 for 1 drinks and free guest lists
Cons: a little pricey on the drinks
I had a great 21st birthday at Taj. I started planning the birthday weeks in advance because I had never thrown a birthday party. I got bottle service and everything that i expected from my conversations over the phone were done that night! No suprise charges or anything like that which was awesome. I was a little upset at first because i couldnt come in until 12am on the dot (ern i actually made 21) but after i got in i had the best birthday EVER IN THE HISTORY OF MY BIRTHDAYS! lol it was really great. The manager even sent us over a free round of shots when she found out it was my birthday! I will def be comin back soon :)
Pros: customer service, decor
I recently celebrated my Birthday at TAJ on a Saturday night and it was one of the best birthdays I've ever had!\r
All of my friends had a great time.... No Drama, no complaints, and my boyfriend and his friends had no problems at the door.... \r
The venue itself is beautiful, the crowd is upscale....\r
And the music was awesome... We all danced the ENTIRE night!\r
The promoters totally took care of me and all my friends... And from what I heard, the bartenders definitely werent shady with the pouring!\r
I had a table with a couple of bottles, and the promoter even gave me a free bottle of champagne =) The waitress was also really nice as well.\r
We've set up a bachelorette party here for next weekend... I cant wait to go back!
Pros: Music, Crowd, Ambiance
I just wanted to start off by saying thumbs up to the people at the door for reinforcing the dress code. Many places let the wanna be thugs with baggy pants, Timberlands and hair rags in. But at TAJ they make sure you look the par. Once I step in mannnn the ladies look amazing, the DJ play all hits that make you wanna dance all night. The upper level is a great spot for a more intimate small party. This place gets an A+++++ everyone was on there P's and Q's..........
Pros: Great Drinks and the DJ was amazing
This is a great place to have a party. The DJ on saturdays is AMAZING!!!! I recently had a birtday party here and the managers were very accomodating. Its super close to any train station and its pretty big inside.
Attented a good friends B Day party here and was left in aww as to how popular this place was. Ive heard great things about this place but kept brushing it off. Next thing you know im walking up 21st street and my jaw dropped at the long line and crowds of people trying to get in. I had specific instructions on what to say to the door host who turned out to be a pretty hot mamma(Very Rarely to you see women running the door in NYC) anyways my girls had bottle service so we were able to bypass the bread line and get to the bar asap for a few shots before heading to the reserved table. Next thing I knew the DJ was banging hits, we pop'd a few more bottles and ........ well the rest is a blurr. Great night. This place has definitely been added to my places to be in the city this upcoming spring.
Pros: Overall great Vibe, Service, Crowd, and most important DJ.
Cons: Its toooo popular so bottle service is almost a must to get in.
