The Scene
A fine blend of style and substance, this large, modern space is accented with a mahogany bar, carved teak screens, sandstone statues and sexy lighting, most of it imported from India. But this is no theme restaurant: The food and atmosphere are infused with the exotic, rather than overpowered by it. Soft banquettes and pillow-laden booths enhance a refreshingly mellow vibe, and the shift from eatery to lounge is organic.

The Food
The kitchen has created a changing menu of upscale French and New American dishes with Indian touches. Tandoori-style red snapper is delicately flavored with mushroom ghee; pan-roasted lobster tops deliciously aromatic basmati rice; and the wild-greens salad is hopping with chaat masala. Portions are small, so you'll have room for some wild berry "samosas" afterward.

Key Points

  • Newly Renovated Space
  • Exciting and Creative New Menu
  • New Weekly Events and Parties

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - With no attitude or door policies (some servers even wear flip-flops with their stylish black outfits), the restaurant aims to be inclusive. So if you see a line, it's because of the fire codes.
  2. When to Go - Taj II hosts regular nightly events, including salsa every Monday and a weekly Haitian-themed party called Kompa Sundays. Call in advance for details on what's happening.
  3. What to Drink - Signature cocktails include the cucumber-infused mojito and an Absolut Citron, rosewater and champagne martini.
  4. When to Go - Taj II hosts regular nightly events, including Wednesday comedy nights, salsa every Monday and a weekly Haitian-themed party called Kompa Sundays. Call in advance for details on what's happening.
  5. The Extras - With large U-shaped banquettes, tons of comfy seating and a mezzanine-level lounge, the space is great for big parties.

Ratings_icons Hated it!! Rude staff!!

nyangel17

The girl who collects money on Saturday nights is a total POS. She commented that I was wearing flip flops when on this website it says they don't care. Mean while I was wearing a really nice outfit. Ughh so rude!! Plus she had the worst attitude, a "I'm better then you". Jeez, its a bar where people want to have fun, calm down!! The drinks are way over priced and the cover for guys makes it not worth going in. Don't go there!!

Pros: Music

Cons: Rude people at the door, over priced drinks, high cover to get in

Ratings_icons Awesome Birthday Party

seneca11

I had my birthday party at Taj 2 weeks ago and I was able to work with them and book Dj Precise at the venue. The staff was awesome from the manager to the bathroom attendant. Some of my guy friends had an issue because they wore sneakers but the doorman accommodated my request as I was turning 30 and this was BIG DEAL! Some of my guests did have to wait on the line because they arrived late but they eventually got in. I recommend getting there ON TIME but it was a great night. I highly recommend it.

Pros: DJ booking, Staff, drinks

Cons: Lines after 1am, some shots are expensive

I came here last night for Raphael Saadiq's Listening party and it was such a great event. I tried a couple of the signature cocktails and the Taj Wings which were great. I forget the name of the cocktail that was really tasty. It was like a spicy martini but it was really good! The crowd was great and very upscale and the place was beautiful! I will most def be back soon!!!

Pros: crowd and decor

I came through Taj a week ago for appy's and drinks at a friends B-day party and had a great time. The waitress was on the ball with our table, drinks were GENEROUS and the food was great. We had platters upon platters of food, and if you like crab cakes, they are a must to try!
I'll be back definately in the future :)

I went to a bday party in the VIP a couple of weeks ago and we had a great time. We had dinner at 9:30 and then stayed for the late nite party. The dinner was great. our waitress was really nice and she recommended the crab cakes and pomegranate chicken. GREAT CHOICES! After dinner more friends joined us and we had some bottles and partied the night away! The DJ was like a master at mixing!! He played EVERYTHING! From pop to rock to hip hop to r&b we danced the night away! I?m going back this Saturday for dinner with my guy and I?m sure that I will have another great night and some more tasty POMEGRANTE CHICKEN =)

Pros: POMAGRANTE CHICKEN, SERVICE

Cons: none

Ratings_icons Great Service.......

romulus1980

Dont get me wrong, i hate to be in an over crowded room but when you get service the way i got last friday you cant help but appreciate it. Its good to know some places still remember that custermer service is the corner stone of making us happy. Thanx to the managment for being attentive and ensuring that although it got a bit crowded we still had a great time.

Pros: Speedy Service and Customer Understanding

Cons: A bit too crowded

I have been all over the city, and to some of the nicest resturants. But Taj has really steped up the compitition. From the door girl who walked us to our table to the cute server. Brent went out of his way to see that our time at taj was trully amazing. The cocktails were rocking and the music was poping. Man those cocktails were fabulous. I will def-ly bring my friends to this place!!

Ratings_icons Worst NYC Experience Ever

CM84

This place was truly heinous. We made reservations for dinner at 8:00, and they told us that it might be loud because of a private event, but then called to confirm the reservation. However, when we got there we were seated upstairs?on a couch. The hostess said she was keeping the genuine tables downstairs open for the event. Thus, we could only order appetizers off the bar menu. Awesome. We ordered drinks and though we were seated next to an entirely empty upstairs bar, our drinks took forever to materialize from the more crowded downstairs bar. We were offered other peoples? food twice before the servers got their ducks in a row?the other people, by the way, having real dinners while we got bar niblets. Of course, dinner-eaters were forced to balance plates on their laps, on account of the couch situation. Our $12 crab cakes turned out to be an order of only 2 and they were rubbery, our ?Taj Fries? were actually bland dorm-dining-hall-style fries, nothing Taj, Indian, or Fusion about them. Tacky balloons for the event (which we never saw) lessened the already standard decor, and we never had the same hostess or server twice in a row, making it difficult to work out who worked their and who was as baffled as us. To top it all off, the bouncer kindly opened the door to let us out?into a back hall where they keep their trash?very scenic. We won?t be going back, wouldn?t recommend it, and will sleep fine tonight after leaving a scathing Citysearch post.

Ratings_icons Stepped their game up!!

cutiebrwn1

Its taken some time but Taj has definetly worked to change their style!! I went this Saturday expecting to find the same old vibe and was pleasantly suprised!! The decor was hot and the crowd was just looking to have a great time. We came for a birthday and getting a guestlist was easy. We got there early and the cutie at the door moved the line quickly. Some of my friends couldnt get in cause they came late when the door was closed, but the lady manager came out and explained they didn't want to overcrowd the room.As other customers left, my friends were allowed in and we had a blast!! Nice change of pace for customer service in NYC. I will totally be having my bday there in September!!

Pros: Service, Decor, Music(DJ was hot!)

Cons: Get there early!!

Ratings_icons Not Bad!

Thomasppc

After a recommendation by Mark from Katra we decided to go to Katra's sister bar Taj for Saturday Night. The food here is also very nice but the service is a little less more attentive. The signature cocktails are beautiful and the bartender Jenifer was very helpful. The waitress seemed a little preoccupied which we felt made the night a little disappointing. It turned into this crazy club at eleven which we were not prepared for and felt we were being rushed a little so as they could take our table. We left then because it was not our type of party but we would pay a visit here again. We asked their door host where to go and he was very helpful and sent us on our way to our next venue. So far so good for our trip here.

Pros: Decor, food and Jenifer

Cons: Service for dining and late night party

Ratings_icons Great Place To Be!

BanzaiLuv

Ive been to Taj only a couple times but was amazed each time. The first time I took my boyfriend in there for dinnner, for his birthday, and had Denae as my waiter. She recommended the steak which was great as well as a African wine. When we ordered dessert, there was a candel in the dessert. She had said that she overheard us talking about the celebration and wanted to make it "special" which it couldn't have been anymore. I was so appreciative that she took action without me even saying anything. Everyone else was so friendly to us as well. I am coming back for sure!

Pros: Friendly staff who are knowledgable

Ratings_icons JUST GRAND!!!!!!!!

SultryShortie

Rarely do I ever write reviews of places I attend for dinner and/or drinks, but after going to Taj I'd be insane not to let others know about this admirable place. Went there last Friday for after work dinner and drinks with a couple of my friends. Might i say the food there is very good , BUT the dessert was just exquisite. I had the Chocolate Bread Pudding Samosas (I can still taste it now just thinking of it) MMMMMMMMMM. (the waitress was VERY patient with us when deciding what we wanted to eat and even gave us very good suggestions). After dinner we decided to stick around because in the late evening they also have a nightclub. We couldn't believe how many people frequent the place. The line was long BUT the wait wasn't as long as other places we've been to recently. The staff at the door were pleasant (not to mention very attractive..great way to draw in the ladies..myself included)...They weren't arrogant and insolent like the mojority of NYC lounges or clubs...
Once inside we realized what the big deal with this place is. The decor is admirable. The drinks, although a bit expensive, were worth every cent. The ambiance was great and a diversified crowd.
I look forward to going to Taj again. We're even thinking of making this OUR SPOT

Pros: PROFESSIONALISM, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE

Ratings_icons Get Your Party On

tammymcfunky

This was my first time planning a party at a night club and I must say I was not disappointed. I held my sister's bachelorette after party at Taj and had an amazing night! It was about 12 ladies in total and had VIP resevations. From the moment we got there, we were escorted in, followed by drinks and food. Throughout the course of the night, the staff kept checking to make sure we were happy with the service and wanted to make sure we were having a good time. Definitely felt like VIP that night! Kudos to Eddie, the event planner, who helped make this night special. Very efficient and a pleasure to work with! We spoke several times before the event in order to provide me with the necessary info...not to mention, he goes out of his way to make the event memorable for those involved. Food was good, music was great lovely ambiance and drinks were non stop!!! We definitely got ur party on that saturday night 6/08. My guests had a great time and my sister was elated. Thanks Taj! Definitely a place to revisit.

Ratings_icons Best after work spot to mix and mingle

cimi11105

I frequent this venue for its really nice and cool interior decor, along with great service and food. on the weekends it turns into a club which is hip-hop and r&b mostly. barely have issues getting in and once inside the atmosphere is really enjoyable. the crowd is cool and hip and not there to cause trouble, everyone is having fun.....after work is ideal to go because it offers more than just a cool club, music, and environment, that being the food. the food plus the mix and mingle atmosphere i think is the most enjoyable plus the hosts really know how to handle the club. i.e. DJ blasts music while im eating dinner and the gentleman named Eddie i found out later gave him a little speech about what the volume should be and adjusted it. i had to thank him and got to know him a little better and about the club. DEFINITELY CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!!!!

Cons: WILL BE BACK TO FIND SOME

I had a very memorable and fascinating experiences at taj. I find it to be one the best restaurants in New York. Its a great place to attend for an after work drink or get together with friends to have fun on the weekends. I definitely know a great party and taj is the place to be Monday thru Saturday; wether your in the mood for a good party or just a group of co workers out relaxing. It caters to all of New Yorkers. Theire drinks are better than average and their service is excellent. I have been going there for over a year and will always return. Oh ... and i must not foget it is a great location to network and you'll never know who you will come across.

Pros: Great Service

So my little sister planned a party for me and 15 of my friends here on July 5 and we had a great time. Earlier that week we had come for dinner so I was siked about having my bday here! We got 3 bottles upstairs in the VIP and a platter of apps. It was a great evening!! All of my party got in hassle free and the guest list was actually upheld unlike at other clubs. DJ Get Live was a great DJ and kept shouting out the Bdays and VIPs! The crowd was great and at the end of the evening I was even surprised with a cake! I can say it was a great birthday!

Pros: Everything!

Me and some buddies came here awhile back for their salsa party. It was a great night and the dancers were really hot. So when my sister said that she wanted me to take her and her girls out for her birthday i decided to try this place out. It was a great pick. The line wasn't too long and their was not too much hassel at the door. Once inside the music was really hot and so were the chicks. The crowd and the music were really live and made for a great time. The bartenders flirted with my sister making her night even better and i left with a couple of numbers. Overall it was a great time and we will most def be back again.

Pros: Good Drinks and Great Crowd

Cons: Downstairs bar gets really crowded...but hey the drinks are worth the wait.

Ratings_icons A great Staruday night

browwnsuga

I used to party at Taj when it first opened, but hadn't gone in a while
until this past Saturday. The new Taj proved to be an excellent choice for
a Saturday night in NYC. Taj improved its existing decor with LED lights,
which indeed gave Taj a new look and feel. The line was short and quick
and the door man was very cordial and quite handsome! My friends and I felt
welcomed from the time we entered. The music was amazing and varied from
80's, old school to hip hop/reggae, everyone was dancing non-stop and
having a great time. It was a classy and mixed crowd. The bartenders were
very friendly, didn't have to wait to be served. The signature drinks
including the Tamarind and Budina were awesome. Overall the customer
service was excellent and I will definately be back on a saturday night
with my crew!

Pros: The signature drinks and customer service

Ratings_icons Only Okay

Jenifer9119

Myself and my girlfriends were here for dinner last Sat night and Taj was disappointing. The food here seems confused and I am not sure what they are trying to do with the menu! It?s not Indian that I am sure after visiting there. It?s not fusion so I am not sure.
My problem was that or waitress was asleep and did not seem interested in our table. She spent most of the time at the bar having fun with the bartenders. We finished our dinner and decided to give late night a try as we were told it turned into a good club late night well not exactly from what we could see. Two of my friends left to go to another bar for a while and when they came back were told they must pay cover. When they explained the host told them that that was there problem for leaving and then rudely told them that if they did not stop arguing then the whole group would be asked to leave! They paid and what a waste of money. Drinks were very expensive and there seemed to be two prices for Vodka and RedBull. One bartender $17 and another I think $15 or $16 which is insane.
Music was good but Taj got interesting as the crowd changed throughout the night. They would let anyone in there and there were some rough looking people. At two we left and went to another club where the crowd was more mixed
Sorry to say Taj did nothing for me only disappoint all of us.

Pros: Decor and cute bartenders

Cons: Service and crowd

Ratings_icons Great saturday night party

Mbali

I'm an event planner and party promoter. For my first time working with TAJ II, I was pleased with the level of professionalism they demonstrated. They opened their doors to me and my team and made sure that we had everything we needed before, during and after our party. Eddie was great to work with. He's generally a really nice guy and very fair.

We brought 200+ people to their venue on a Saturday night. There were some initial hiccups at the door - people wanted to come in through the front of the line with the promotion team and it seemed that they were making people wait unnecessarily. And some of the bar staff were unaware of some of our sponsorship arrangements. But that was all cleared up quickly by Delores and Eddie and everything explained in a calm professional way.

DJ Get Live was great and able to feel our crowd really well. Played a lot of hip hop and old school R&B.

We will work with Taj II again very soon.

Ratings_icons Great Tuesday!

your1mom

I went to Taj last night (Tuesday) and had a fantastic time! My daughter had been inviting me for the past three weeks and I am glad that I finally went. When we got to the restaurant there was a DJ and a few people were dancing, but as the night progressed, more people came and the night became more exciting. My best friend and I even began to dance. We tried some appetizers, the calamari was really good. And I also had a spicy drink, I forget the name, but if you like spicy drinks and margaritas then you would love this drink. All in all it was a great night and I really happy that I came out to experience it.

Pros: The drinks and the Atmosphere

Cons: At times too much spanish music

Ratings_icons No respect for customers

Elles

Don't expect to be treated with respect here.
I have been visiting this place before. It seems that the policies are changing to the worse.
If you leave your purse/jacket on a sit while going on a dance floor ? you might not find it after you return. The waitress can put it to the different sit or on the floor.
We had a dinner reservation. The waitress said that we could keep the table until at least 9 pm.
At 8 p.m. (before we finished the meal) we were asked to vacate the table.

Place is crowded, service is terrible.

Cons: bad service, crowded

Ratings_icons Great Renovations

pendangis

I havent been there in atleast a year. So when i walked in i was amazed to see all the changes that were made. Kudo's to the designer. Its nice to see that not all clubs in nyc have given up there Unique International decor for more of a miami neon lights theme.( Im soooo sick and tired of the neon lights theme) Either way, the place looked amazing. I didnt fell like i was in New York once i got in. Great ambiance and a nice mix of ladies. The door was as usual a bit of a wait but it moved alot faster than most places I've visited in the last few months. I had no problem with paying the cover. As a matter of fact I was having such a good time i ended up doing bottle service from inside the club. They sat me in the mezz were there just so happen to be some celeb's popin bottles and a large group of girls celebrating a bachlorette. One word. INSANE. The absolute best time i had this year so far and the best money spent in the city since my bday party last year. This year its definitely gona be at taj.

Pros: Nightlife party packages

Cons: way too many people. If your no doing bottle service get ready to be unconfortable

Ratings_icons Night clubs are sooooo over rated or so i thaught.

harlemhoney

Yep.......It?s OFFICIAL. This place rocks. Last night I ventured out into the city for what I thought would be a quiet and relaxed drink at a bar. Next thing you know my phone is blowing up and it?s my girl telling me how she's at Taj doing body shots. I didn?t hesitate to head over and to my surprise the door staff was the SAME guys from Saturday. Very rarely do u see that. So these guys stroked my ego to the point that I almost floated into the room on top of taking care of all my girlfriends. They really know how to treat their guests. Kind, courteous, and to the point. When I asked the bouncer why are they so different he says it?s because they don?t B.S. you at the door. You are going to get in or you?re not. Either way you won?t have to wait 45 minutes to find out. I even stood there as the door guy turned someone away. The guys were a bit unhappy but it was otherwise a smooth transaction. I swear I've never seen that level of professionalism displayed at a door. Even in Miami. Long story short, this club is amazing. Decor, Drinks, and customer appreciation. SIX STARS AND GROWING...........

Pros: Customer Appreciation

Cons: No Parking

Ratings_icons Worst Party Ever

jenleb121

I would never write a review but there are always the exceptions! We were at a party on Sat night here and it was the worst ever. We were first told that there would be a two for one drink special and when we got there it was in fact changed to a vodka open bar which was not agreed too. I don?t drink vodka and was forced to buy my normal drink at $14 per drink .The bartender was very rude when I asked him about it and he told me if we did not like the way it was then we have a choice of the other places in the neighborhood which I found totally unprofessional.
The music was okay but as the night proceeded the crowd began to change and become a little rough looking. While the party continued a fight broke out and people were just rude. One gentleman was bothering my girlfriend and we asked security if he could help and ask the guy to leave us alone but we were told that was not his job. We asked to speak to the manager and were told he was not available. My girlfriend was upset because of pretty much everything that we decided to leave. I would never come back here to be treated in such a way.
Before we left there was a fight again and someone used pepper spray and everyone was asked to leave. I have never seen anything like this while at a club. This was not what we expected when we booked this party and we have learned never to trust a promoter again !!!!!!
When they say "Hot Party" it means tempers not the crowd!

Pros: Decor but nothing else

Cons: Promoter, security and customers

The party was of the hook. I meet some really cool people and had a blast. The music was great but the drinks were better lol. Even though some girls were being rude. The bouncers totaly took control and made sure that every one else had a good time. I just want to say thanks Taj!!!

So,i went here after being invited by a friend to this "great" lounge/club. I havent heard anything about the place in awhile so i was prepared to be turned off. i was suprised to find that they had redecorated and the vibe was super nice. They had an afterwork happy hour thing going on that later turned into the usual bottle service scene (but a bit more inviting). The staff was a bit chill, but very friendly. The even serve food which turned out to be pretty good. I would def go back. Its a nice change of pace. Prices are still nyc but vibe is worth it!

Pros: vibe, chill scene

Cons: parking..street closed after 11

Ratings_icons Don't get comfortable in the seats or chairs

citygoer123

I went to Taj for a special event. My friend and I sat, got comfortable, and ordered a lovely dinner. As soon as the bill was paid, and before the event began, we were told that we had to move so others could eat. The waitress was friendly and we understood. That was fine. She told us we could sit upstairs and still have a great view of the upcoming performance.

We moved and got comfortable once again.

But we were immediately approached by the hostess who told us to move for another party that were there to eat. (Mind you - the tables were coffee tables!). We were reluctant, but moved to the last chairs/seats available. ... only to find out that the couple who sat to eat never ordered and LEFT. Other non-eating customers came and took over the area and the dinner napkins on the coffee tables were left un-used, but my friend and I, who paid to have dinner, got the boot twice!

If Taj wants to serve dinner, they need to be more organized and not "shoo" their paying customers around ... and AWAY!

Ratings_icons horrible employees

p3n1s

i've actually been here a few times before and had a decent time but i havent been there in a long time and went back for two friends birthdays. first the cashier girl and this other guy that controls the line (not the bouncer) were really rude. usually at parties you pay first then go to coat check. the guy tells us we need to go to coat check and we're like ok...after we pay we'll go. then he goes on saying if we're deaf and to check in our coats, its like talking to a wall. you dont need to insult us just tell us we need to go first. plus coat check should be optional because its freezing in that place.

then after the whole partying in an over crowded environment where i could barely move and go to get my jacket and i handed 2 tickets to the coat check girl who ends up giving me another friends jacket. i tell her thats the wrong jacket and she gives me an atitude about its the right jacket. i'm thinking maybe its right but i needed the actual jackets i needed because my other friend was staying. so i get my friend to give me her ticket and went back to get the original jacket and replace it with hers. surprisingly (being sarcastic) she cant find the jacket...you know why? because she gave me the wrong jacket in the first place. she then calls me names for getting everything mixed up which is impossible because i never went behind the counter and doesnt replace the wrong jacket she got me.

so ladies, when you arrive at this club make sure you dress warm or dance till you sweat. if you dont dance you're gonna freeze bu tthen again the bumping and body heat of the crowd might be able to warm you up. also be prepared to lose your jackets because from what i see the unintelligent coat check girl who cant read numbers will lose it.

Pros: decent priced drinks

Cons: the extremely rude staff, over crowded

Miserable experience to not even get in. Showed up around midnight for a large group's private party. Told the bouncer who put us on the bottle line (shorter) so we were anticipating waiting maybe 20 minutes. I was completely wrong. They made us wait for over an hour and the short guy with glasses running the line was completely powerless as his other taller (maybe senior?) bouncers let 40 guys in off the street. Perhaps they're regulars, so I hold no grudge against them, but my friends inside said the place was completely empty, so I didn't quite understand the need to keep people waiting that long. Needless to say my friends (1 other guy and 2 girls) decided to leave and head someplace more reasonable. I've been here before and had a great time, but I never anticipated anything like this. To top it off, they planned on charging guys $40 after waiting that long.
Maybe it's Friday nights, but the wait was absurd, the cover too, and to top it off the place was empty.

Pros: Usually a good scene, but has it's off nights

Cons: Overpriced, terrible line policy, short bouncer w/ glasses is powerless to get people in.

The music and decor was awesome! It was crowded and the service was terrible, the waitress was rude! It's mad expensive and overated. The dark hair skinny waitress, she was so rude and obnoxious, I guess since she already knew she was getting a big tip because we order a bottle, service after that was NONE. At the end of the night we wanted some martinis, we gave her a $100.00 and said we want our change back, apparently she misunderstood and never came back, we finally did ask for change, she came back with an attitude and the money fell on the floor and she walked away. Attitude like this will drive customers away.

Pros: GOOD MUSIC AND NICE DECOR

Cons: EXPENSIVE AND RUDE WAITRESS

Ratings_icons My 30th B-day party

jonthomp25

My guest and I had a great time at Taj. Everyone loved the place and the mezzanine was great it set the mood for the party. The DJ was great he played a good mix of music. And the service was excellent the bottle hostage I forgot her name but she got all my guest in with no problem and our waitress and servers were very accommodating. Even the two bartender upstairs were very cool and polite. I will definitely will be having another event there.

Pros: The place isn't huge its a nice size and the music was very good

Cons: none

Went on a Friday night. A bit of a wait at the door, but after getting in we bought bottles at a table and danced all night. Very crowded at the bar, though.

Pros: good service

Cons: crowded, wait to get in...

Ratings_icons Beautiful place...

I was at Taj on Friday and had a great time. I had such a wonderful time I went back on Saturday night. Everyone from the door to the bartenders were really nice/pleasant and very helpful, although it was packed - I found an area by the bar where I felt safe and closer to the bartenders (wink). I have to say the bartenders are all hot - I think thats why I went back on Saturday night (shhhhh).... The music was really good both nights. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family - everyone have a wonderful time!

Pros: Everyone was good looking...

Cons: Cold outside, but they can't do anything about that.

Ratings_icons Comedy Show

jr8268

I went to the comedy show at Taj on Wednesday night. I really enjoyed the show and the atmosphere was great. We received a raffle prize of Knicks tickets and even though the Knicks are losers we were thrilled at the prize. The food was good and for the price we got three comedians from different TV shows and the host was even funny. The grown up crowd was a nice change and I'm definitely going back with some of my co-workers.

Pros: good afterwork event

Cons: ends too early

Ratings_icons Nightmare on 21st, assume the position!!

what a nightmare it was... Bouncer. Bouncers. Bouncers. Bounces .Cops .Cops .Cops. oops i'm sorry i meant boucers. who do they think they are : fake promotion ad of open bar 10 to 11, 2 for 1 drinks 11 to 12am.. they had a private event , told us to got next door to slate comeback at 1130 after event was over. cameback and we had to make the line from the end bouncer said there's nothing he could do! . after spending $750 in liquor who wouldn't be happy , we were a group of five. But who ever is incharge of these guys sholud give them a class on service, and respect. we are here to get service and spend money, not the other way around. musics good but after 3:30, they just kept repeating it (djgetlive). i would try again on a regular night and come here to tell you what i think about it!
ps: people w/ express passes were waiting online. we were online from 11:30 to 1:30am. while bouncers were letting their friends in, and fooling around, oh! and if you don't find a package 'cause they're all sold out. then try the minimum of 3 bottles for 5 people "bottle service". what are they stupid? or ridiculous.

Pros: decor, location

Cons: bouncers. weak drinks,

Ratings_icons Best Lounge, Great service, Make reservations

nydilruba

My husband and I went here for our 1st wedding anniversary and were looking forward to a great time...and that was exactly what we got. The decor was beautiful with a very warm inviting look. We made reservations and when we told them we needed a separate area for ourselves...they set us up with a Cabana. We were very comfortable and had a great staff that was always available whenever we needed them. We had a great waiter who was very nice and personable. This is a great spot to go for a date or just to hang out with friends. The food was good and so were the drinks...but I wasn't too crazy about the drnks. But overall I think the decor, staff, and the place overall made our evening wonderful. Thanks to everyone at Taj.

Pros: Everything...staff, Cabana's, decor, service, Make reservations for best service

Cons: none really

Ratings_icons Bad taste

lastchance11

I have been to few places that left such a bad taste in my mouth but Taj is No 1. The food was nice but I agree with last reviewer that adding %20 is silly and we only had two people. What annoyed me also was the fact we were told to vacate our table at 10.30 for bottle service even though we came for dinner at 9.20. We had just got our main course and were told that we had to finish at 10.30. I was so upset because this was suppose to be a special dinner for us. The music started blaring at 10.00 and it made things worse. We got up from our table and my husband bought to Grey Goose and red Bulls and we were charged I believe $32 and then were told we had to spend $50 on a credit card. My husband went to the atm because there was no way we were tipping on top of that %20 which the bartender said was the rule. Now myself and my husband know the owners and they are really nice girls but this is a shame and it is greedy. The manger explained to us that this is the new Taj well I say bring back the old because that is the only way I am coming back

Pros: Decor and food

Cons: Well Read the Review

Ratings_icons Not a good experience

rekhapillai

I was at Taj for dinner last night, and even though we made a reservation - we were not told that there was an after work special going on - so we could barely hear each other. And then to top it all we were charged a MANDATORY 20% gratuity - for a party of three!! I would have paid the usual 18% voluntarily, but where is the justification in "demanding" it for serving 3 people. When we questioned the charge - the waiter informed us, that we recieved the "wrong" menu - and that all other menus indicated that the 20% gratuity is required. I think that is in extremely poor taste. I must say the food was good. But between the unexpected loud music during dinner and the demand for a tip, I am extremely disappointed and will definetly never come back again.

Cons: Music too loud for a restaurant, bad gratuity policy

Ratings_icons No attitude. Where can you find that in NYC!

diega228

I was at Taj last Fri Night and was shocked out how friendly and unpretentious the vibe was. I waited in a short line so the doorman could check my ID and no problem getting in. When we walked in the music was hot, the room exotic, and the cocktails delicious. Thanks Taj for making my friday night which is usually tough in the city a real pleasure!

I went to Taj last night after work to meet some friends and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and over all vibe. The bartender was nice enough to explain all the different specialty cocktails on the menu and she even lgave me a little taste test. The music was great and so was the food. We were having such a good time that we stayed until it closed. I feel like c**p today (hung-over) but it was worth it because I has so much fun!!

Pros: busy place,great vibe,excellent service,great food

Cons: none
