I lived in Brooklyn Heights for 6 years - A few years ago, I brought my cat to them with a cold. Dr. Norton talked me into taking a second cat home, stating that she has taken care of all the preliminary shots, vaccines, and that he was fixed and didn't need anything else for the first year. He turned out to have some urinary issues and when I went to her for his urinary problems, she never mentioned he was behind in shots or stated the fact that she never neutered him!

I recently moved to PA and took my cats to a new vet to have their yearly shots. Only to find out that the cat Dr. Norton gave me was not only never neutered, but also never received any of his de-worming shots and now has parasites!!

This is my first male cat so I had no idea what it's genitals were supposed to look like or why he was having urinary problems. I trusted that a vet hospital in the prestigious neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights would be honest and legit. Wrong move! I can't believe a vet, someone who is supposed to love and care for animals could be so dishonest.

Thankfully both of my cats are now in the care of responsible vets and are healthy.

I have been taking my cats to Heights Veterinary Hospital for over 15 years, and have found them to be terrific, caring vets. Two cats were near death, and they pulled them both back from the brink. They are not alarmist and unlike many other vets, they do not order a zillion tests to compensate for their inexperience. So what if the waiting room is funky? Don't you realize that when you walk into a glitzy office that is what you are paying for? Hello! That's why the bill is reasonable!

Please be very careful if you take your pet here...don't let them out of your sight!

I had an awful experience here with Dr. Norton and her partner. I wish I had never gone there...what a nightmare. My case is being investigated by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

The also are cash/check only so know that if your bill is expensive, you can't put it on your credit card.

Vinegar Hill is a vet that is not too far from here that is excellent as an alternative!

My husband and I have been using Heights Vet for decades for our numerous animals. We couldn't ask for more caring service and top skills than is evidenced by Dr. Norton. She has accomplished great things with unusual surgeries that she has a lot of experience with, and she is devoted to her work. Our animals all love her, and she extends herself to them beyond office hours to ensure that our pets are doing well. Dr. Norton has a heart of gold. Their office could use some renovation, but they are reasonably priced and do not generate the funds they need to renovate by charging exorbitant fees. I can't speak highly enough about this business.

yoliv should perhaps spend more time working on his/her grammar and use (abuse) of the English language. I have been taking my dogs to this clinic for 13 years. Dr. Turoff, Dr. Norton and Dr. Berger have all shown my dogs the best of care and concern. Sometims things are hard to analyze and with the sampling of yoliv's lack of mastery of the language, it seems to be at least a possibility that symptoms were not properly explained. This clinic has been lovingly caring for my pets and many friend's pets for years. Look past the random rant and give them a highly recommended try!

i don't actually use this place, but my coworker does and he just had an awful ordeal (and he's too nice to post anything about it) - he took his cats in on a saturday for annual shots and testing, and while he was holding one cat, his other cat, a sweet 6lb 11 year old, slipped out of one of the doctor's arms and ran into a bathroom, behind some cages. they told him not to worry, 'that happens all the time.'
well, it turns out the cat had slipped into a hole in the floorboards, and to make a long story short, was in there until the following tuesday night! they refused to let him come in before or after work on monday to try to coax her out! they finally agreed to close early on tuesday and let him go in there, and of course, he was able to get her...
but they were very unaccommodating for something that was clearly their negligence. if they loved animals, this wouldn't have dragged out as long as it did!
also, the kicker is that they didn't even draw enough bl**d for the tests the kitties needed and wanted him to bring the other cat back to try again.
no way!

Just went for the first time. I had some reservations due to the reviews here, but my neighbor recommended it so I thought I give it a try. I'm so happy I did! The vet was very sweet and caring and I believe she is very knowledgable. Yes, it's an older office and they might not have the most modern equipment but I feel that for most issues I will receive excellent care for my dog.

I have been going to their offices with my pets since 1977...Dr. Wasserman was the vet back then (and now lives upstairs). True, their offices don't really inspire confidence, but both Norton and Turoff are a bit quirky, but they love animals...they are a bit old school as well, but they know their stuff. This is a neighborhood vet and not a place where you get major procedures done. If they think it's something serious, beyond the capabilities/equipment of their office, they'll refer you to one of the area hospitals. If you're expecting sleek design and state-of-the-art looking environment...don't go here, but if you'd like good care for your pet...give them a try. Oh, and the receptionist has been there for decades and looks like Cloris Leachman...she is a bit absent minded, but a perfect character in this place.

Pros: caring vets, walk-in service

Cons: limited hours, limited equipment

It is clear that Dr. Norton cares deeply about animals. We took our 5 month old kitten to be neutered and she did a perfect job. She was very kind and made our kitten feel comfortable right away by kissing him on the head. I would definitely take our pets back to her.

I went to her twice, both times the wrong diagnosis, and she reffered me to an awful groomer.
I thinks shes really strange
and a bad vet. I hope people who have had a bad experience right about the awful experiece they had. How can you misdiagnose a skin condition as a dog bite.. What an idiot.

I think they stopped keeping up on research when they left vet school. Their facilities are dirty and dilapidated. They only take cash and checks. They are open roughly 5 hours a day, none of them convenient. The receptionist didn't even know that they can't check a cat's blood-pressure there, so I came in with my geriatric cat, only to be literally LAUGHED AT by the sub vet there. My cat has hyperthyroid and chronic renal failure, but they told me he only needs to come in when he takes a downturn.

By the way, Veterinary Emergency and Referral Service on Warren and Smith is fantastic.

Pros: cheap

Cons: Bad hours, cash/checks only, rude, negligent, antiquated, heartless

Terrible vet -- incompetent and rude. You have to ask all the questions yourself, otherwise, they may forget to do things for your pet. Bad bad beside manner.

I have been to this vet various times over the last 20 years -- they are below par, and their bedside manner (particularly Dr. Norton) is awful. Try Walter Maddox in Cobble Hill instead.

I think both Dr. Norton and Dr. Turlock are great. I have been taking my cats there for about 7 years, and have always found them to be caring, calming vets and good listeners. I have called many times and had Dr. Norton walk me through some things I could do at home that would avoid an office visit. Their rates are not outrageous, either. Though the waiting room is a little dreary, the clinic itself is not one of those horrible noisy places with dogs in the back barking and barking and barking non-stop, and the examining rooms are filled with photos and cards from happy families and their pets. I highly recommend them!

I went to Heigts clinic for the irst time and saw Dr norton. I have a puppy and asked where I should go for grooming and she sent me to a horrible place the tailored pet. I was wondering why she would send people to a nasty smelling and bad place. Any how. just a weird place
