.

We felt like Greek and since Molyvos was in between our show (Wicked) and our hotel (Le Parker Meridien), we stopped in after the show.

Since it was relatively late for us, we skipped appetizers and salads and just stuck with an entree each. I ordered Aglaias Moussaka (casserole layers of eggplant, potato, tomato, spiced ground lamb, yogurt Bchamel) and the beau ordered Kotopoulo sto Fourno (boneless pan roasted free range chicken, lemon and garlic roasted potatoes, artichokes and rosemary).

When both arrived they smelled fantastic. Digging in to the moussaka, it was honestly one of the best I've tasted. The beau's chicken was quite good as well. We ended up taking leftovers with us (fridge in the hotel, yay) and we had an amazing breakfast the next day as well. Delicious!

This place is a tourist trap! They added 18% to my check for a party of four! And when I complained to management the response I received was that a lot of tourists do not tip so they tack on the tip! I am appalled at the rudeness and how they are trying to con tourists and discriminate against customers! DO NOT GO HERE! There are plenty of other great places in NYC!

This place was just opposite to where my friends were staying, and we all were hungry so went there. As mentioned in the other review, chicken was very nicely prepared. Service was good as expected and I like to sit in restaurant and have a nice talk with friends and not being hovered around by the service staff for asking things again and again. We had the restaurant week menu.
For Appetizers, I had Mikro Pikilia consisting of 3 diffrent
Melitzanosalata, Taramousalata and Tzatziki. My friend had Horiatiki Salata and according to him it was nice.
For Entree I had Kotopoulo Sto Fourno, chicken dish and it was one of the nicest roasted chicken I have tasted in a long time. The other one I like is the India clay roasted oven with authentic spices. And for the deset I had Ravani, the almond cake which was ok,

The only issue and even though its minor issue, they added gratuity for 3 person, even though it was listed that it will be added for more than 6 persons. These small things show what kind of management it is and my reason for 3 stars.

We were in NYC for new year's, but with the wind chill at 0 degrees we wimped out and didn't do Times Square. (We're from the south where it rarely dips below freezing.) So with a sudden change of plans and no dinner reservations for New Year's Eve, we tried the restaurant adjoining our hotel. (Abbocato at The Blakely). They had no table but recommended Molyvos, their sister restaurant. It was just around the corner and had a table available, so we went. I'm not a big fan of our local Greek restaurants, so we went with a "what choice do we have" attitude. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was very fresh and prepared simply so the flavor of the fresh ingredients stood on its own. I had the grilled pork chop with butternut squash and a potato pancake. My daughter had the pan roasted chicken with roasted potatoes. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. The Greek salad was a little pricey, but the tomatoes were the best I had had since last summer's vine-ripened crop. Who knew you could get a great tasting tomato in the middle of winter?
The wait staff was well trained and discreet. I never felt they were hovering or rushing us, yet our glasses never got more than half empty. We shared an order of the dessert special (which they allowed with no problem) of chocolate baklava. It was delicious. Our coffee arrived out of thin air as soon as we ordered it. The waitress did not rush us with our check. We had to ask for it.
The ambience was very nice and I did not find that the tables were crowded. I will go again, if the opportunity rises.

We went to this restaurant based on a recommendation from a Greek friend. He was right on the button w/ this one. The food is exactly how your mom prepares it. The staff are helpful in explaining the dishes, we would go back.

I've never had Greek food before, but after going to a performance at Carnegie Hall, my aunt took me to Molyvos. This place is really beautiful inside. It has an amazing ambiance and it is a fairly upscale place. Since it is a classy place, it is a bit on the expensive end, but trust me, it's worth it. It's not your normal Greek food! Explore different foods on the menu. The mutton was extremely delicious. I'd definitely recommend this place.

When we entered the restaurant we were greeted at the desk and brought to our table.
Initially the service was fine. About 15 minutes into our dining experiance the service stopped.
When I say stopped I was never asked 1- if I wanted another drink.
2- How was every thing!
3- The staff hoovered around and spent more time outside smoking than paying attention to their cliente!!
4- I emailed the restaurant and shared with them my experiance and NO REPLY!!!!
It's a shame because the food was pretty good. The owner has several places in the city as well as City Limits in White Plains.
Good food in New York is in abondance good service isn't.
Take my adviise and the sdvise of others ... take your hard earn money and go to a good restaurant where they appreciate youe business.
Molyvos on 7th Ave truely has a poor aditude towards non greek families!!!!

Cons: service and the aditude

I have eaten here many times, I love the food and usually have consistant service. Recently however the service seems lacking. The food is as good and interesting as always so go figure !.

I hope they can get it together because even in a tourist part of towm Molyvos is one of my favorites.

Molyvos is something you wouldn't expect from the outside. The outside has a big banner that reads MOLYVOS and doesn't prepare you for the fine dining area that is inside the doors. The dining area is a little crowded but the atmosphere is great. Family, business, pleasure, romantic they can cover all those areas. They have a great wine list. Ask the waiter what they recommend with whatever you are planning to order. I recommend the octopodi as a appetizer. Tender octopus with a herb sauce was amazing to the taste buds. and the Hummus white bean hummus was also very delicious i wanted seconds. For the entree i had lamb. forgot what it was called but tender lamb chops was amazing. I dont think i like greek desserts that much. a little to sweet for me, but taste was great. I just couldn't have more than 2 bites. The whole meal was great from start to finish. the wait staff was very accommodating. I would go again when i have the chance.

The food and atmosphere were great. However, I was here with my girlfriend and she found a long piece of hair in her salad. Sure, mistakes happen, I get that. However, the staff (both our waiter and the manager) were smug about the whole thing. They took the salad off the bill and the table and ended up comping us a desert, but the smug way that they handled things generally left a bad taste in our mouths. That said, the food and atmosphere were good and I think that most diners would be pleased with the experience. Just watch out for the greek salad.

I have been going to Molyvos for years and have to be honest as a Greek...there are a slew of other new upscale Greek restaurants that have just opened in the city and while they have dropped a ton of money on decor & other areas, they drop the ball on authentic Greek food...Molyvos is a standard NYC restaurant for good Greek food, made freshly, presented neatly, in a warm atmosphere...and I have tried almost every Greek restaurant in the city...my favorite dish is the lamb ravioli, and the mezedes (appetizers) definitely satisfy every time. The Greek wine list is quite impressive, as there are not too many restaurants that offer them although they should considering there are a number of great wines coming out of Greece today...Molyvos is all of these things in one-I always look forward to eating there and definitely recommend this place-they do not need to go "over the top" to impress, the food speaks for itself-KALI OREXI!!

As expected, the food was great. I am mortified, however, by the service at a restaurant of this caliber. Our water glasses were filled so aggressively that water and ice splashed all over the table. When going over the menu, our waitress kept saying that a dish was "really good" as though she was talking about a tuna melt at Friendly's. Once she took our order, we never saw her again. For the majority of the meal, 3 of the 4 glasses of wine on the table were empty. No one bothered to refill our glasses from the rather pricey bottle we had ordered that they kept just out of reach. We made the mistake of ordering another bottle which came after 10 minutes as were we finishing our meal. Unacceptable. The food is not worth the price with this kind of service.

The studio I worked for was near Molyvos so it was my idea to take a friend Saturday. It was 11:45 but the hostess, who knew we wanted appetizers, graciously seated us. It was the last pleasant moment of the evening. The waiter eventually took our order and the busboy informed us that one appetizer wasn't coming, the kitchen was closed, and we made do until the pita ran out...no more bread. The manager asked if we wanted coffee and I informed him we hadn't been able to enjoy what we had. Minutes later pita magically appeared. We were charged for the missing appetizer and when I complained to the manager, who never thought to apologize, he blamed the kitchen. When I mentioned that the hostess knew we planned to order he told me she HAD to seat us and I wondered who put the invisible gun to her head.

When deciding to visit Molyvos (which I had heard good AND bad things about) I was quite dissapointed. As noted on their website, their "amazing" chef apparently is cheaping up his cuisine, and using canned goods to make imitation dolmades and calamari. The noise of all the plates banging made the experience even worse, and the service did not listen closely to our order, as I recieved a dish that I did not even order. Either it was a bad day, or Molyvos is a hyped-up restaurant with a declining reputation.

I've been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. Recently arranged a party of eight on short notice and thing worked out perfectly. Everything dish we ordered was excellent - grilled sardines - great; grilled octopus - terrific; beets w/skordalia - great; lamb ravioli - fantastic; vegetarian stew - boring (I know, don't ask me why someone chose to order that...).

Service was also very solicitous, never felt rushed. Waitress told us when we were ordering too much food and actually steered us to a slightly cheaper bottle of wine which she said was better (and it was quite good).

It's not cheap. But for this quality and the location (this isn't Asotria, after all), the prices are reasonable.

I can't believe how fresh the seafood is at this place. I am from the Gulf Coast so hard to impress me. The absolute best thing on the menu is the appetizer seafood salad--calamari, mussel, shrimp, crabmeat. It comes in a bread bowl and the lemon juices soak into the bread so you eat it with the seafood. Delicious! We also do their whole grilled fish and it is perfect and deboned tableside. The ambience is business casual, nice decor, spacious, great service. It has become a favorite so we also tried the sister restaurant Estarios Milos and found it to be 3 times the price and snobby. Molyvos is the hands down the best and they also have traditional Greek dishes like lamb chops and mousaka.

I went there for my birthday and the decor and the feeling of the restaurant is wonderful~ The lighting is comforting. The service was very good, and they had an extensive cocktail, beer, and wine list. The appetizer was delicious, and the baby lamb chops were tender and flavorful, but the couscous was so so and I thought there were a bit too much of the herbs to the point where it covered the flavor of the artichoke and the brussel sprouts. I would recommend this place for people that love the strong fragrant herbs in their dishes~

I've been here about 8 times now, and each time I had a wonderful experience. The food is of high quality, and most dishes (including the desserts) have a few flavors intertwined, so you during each bite, you'll get an unexpected flavor "surprise" that is positively delightful. The decor is warm, and the music is kept to a nice level, SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO YELL TO TALK! Warm crab cake appetizer is excellent, as is moussaka, lamb shank with orzo. The service here is always impeccable and discreet. Makes for a nice business dinner, for folks willing to go beyond the standard steak, French or Italian restaurant!

Everything was great ~ from the food to the decor to the service. The grilled octopus was amazing. And they don't skimp on the servings. The red snapper was so flavorful. And the baklava was one of the best I've ever had. They use a combination of nuts (almonds, walnuts and pistachios) where most will only use walnuts. Great place. I will definately go back.

I went here on a Thurs. night around 8:00p. What I liked was that it was peaceful without being "dead". No having to yell to talk, no "posers" at the bar... just nice, well-behaved people looking for a drink/nice meal. While a bit pricey, the food was quite good. My greek salad cost about $9 and for that price, I would not have expected chopped olive (as opposed to whole), and shredded bits of lettuce. And while the salad was otherwise very nice and delicious, it was small. The moussaka was excellent. Very delicate.... and the eggplant they used... I don't know what they did, but it was the best I've ever had! The bread pudding was very nice, unique, and tastefully presented. Service was very gracious.

Molyvos is certainly unlike the tavernas and restaurants I have visited in Greece, but the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is welcoming and soothing. I had lunch there yesterday with 2 friends, and the service was quick and thoughtful, and the food delicious. We each had the lamb sandwich, which we all loved, which comes with a wonderful little Greek salad. The round baklava was also delicious, and the house blend herbal tea was a nice finish.
