Bishop Dunn was my home for so much of my childhood. I attended from Kindergarten until 8th grade, as well as a camper and eventually employee of Summer Fundamentals. Now as I look back at my elementary, high school, and 4 year university--all of which were Catholic, I can strongly say that Bishop Dunn instilled values in me that followed me throughout my education and now in my career. The environment led me to grow and thrive intellectually, morally, and socially and prepared me greatly for my next chapter. I can honestly say I worked harder at Bishop Dunn than at my four year Catholic high school, and was not pushed as hard until my freshman year of university.

This is not to say that we did not have troubles/issues from time to time. But what is most important of any institution of learning, especially an elementary school, is that the administration hear you out, consider your point of view, and choose a fair course of action to be a solution. The latter is what my parents and I experienced at Bishop Dunn.

I never went back to my high school to visit after graduating. However, I cannot count the number of times I returned to Bishop Dunn to visit teachers, students, and administrators or simply enjoy a BDMS Drama club play at the Mount. Furthermore, it has been 8 years since I graduated Bishop Dunn, and I still reconnect with several of my classmates every break, all of whom I did not attend high school with.

I highly recommend Bishop Dunn to any parent.

Bishop Dunn is an ok school if the students are willing to cooperate with the teachers. I always did, but still got in hot water, mainly thanks to the antics of the other students. One teacher stated clearly that it was against the rules of all schools for students to say they were innocent when punished or reprimanded as part of a group. That lying about being guilty and refusing to defend yourself were two perfect ways to respect your elders. I hated that rule, but decided to obey it just to be fair.

Bishop Dunn is a great school and I should know, I go there. Unlike some of the kids in my class, I did not start here until 2nd grade, but all of the kids in my class that did go here in pre-k and kindergarten say Mrs. O' Neill was great!!!! I'm now in 7th grade and definitely still want to go here until 8th. I love BDM's teachers, academics, and especially activities like basketball, Drama, Choir and brownies (its like a younger version of Girl Scouts). I'm currently in Basketball and Drama, they're both the best activities in my opinion. So those people that made negative reviews maybe just saw the down sides and negativity of the school (even though there is not many), instead of the positive things about the school. Mr. DelViscio and the staff run a very high quality school, and I hope you consider going there!!!

I hate to see all these posts about Mrs. O'Neill. I have had her for 2 years for both of my sons. I was able to step back as a parent and observe my children from her viewpoint.. and not as a mother.. where sometimes we see EVERYTHING as unfair to our kids. Mrs. O'Neill has the objective to push the kids to their own personal limits so they can feel the sense of accomplishments for doing a task well done. She lets THEM know they are capable of SO MUCH MORE! And whether you liked her or not, by the end of the year, most parents agreed they saw a HUGE growth in their child.. .
She does NOT wish ill on ANY child.. It is a shame people think she does. I keep telling her NOT to retire until my 3rd child can have her!

I would not put my DOG in Mrs. O'Neill's pre-k class. There is something very wrong with her. Several parents have already complained, but they refuse to do the right thing.
We should all go and picket at the school. It is a shame that we have to go to a website to post our feelings.
After my dealings with Mrs. O'Neill I was very depressed. She is an awful person. I do not know what motivates her. I guess since her son had ADD and other issues, she thinks she is giong to save everyone else. Someone must have given her a hard time too and probably was not senistive to her and I guess that's why she treats children and parents in this manner. It baffles me what motivates her poor behavior.

If you (above) have such a problem with the pre-K program, then stand up for your children and speak to the teacher and/or principle. Why are you on this site complaining about it?

In my opinion and in my experience the pre-k teacher is horrible!!!My child is afraid to try anything after she went to this pre-k class. The teacher refused to help her with her zipper. My daughter can do zippers, but sometimes gets stuck. The teacher refused to help her with the smock for painting, so my daughter NEVER got to paint. This teacher does not seem to understand that my daughter just turned 4, she is not 11. I'm paying all this money for a teacher that would not even help her to develop and encourage her abilities and skills. I had to spend a lot of time helping to rebuild my child's confidence. My daughter felt like she had to know how do do everything right the first time. IN my experience this teacher is rude and totally insensitive. Everything that my child could not do always stemmed from some kind of delay according to her. We should all get together as a group and file a complaint. I am no longer at the school, but I would be willing to do it. Pre-k should be a wonderful first experience for children.

I did not appreciate the heavy handiness of this class. My son was stressed out.

He was intimated by the teacher, who would get mad at him if he did not know how to open the milk container or if he opened it at the wrong end. Beware that eating too slow is also prohibited.

When I spoke to the teacher she did not show any sensitivity, she just stated in an annoyed tone that he needed to be independent for this class.

I expressed my concern to the princiopal. He was very flippant about the matter and I felt brushed off. He said she had been running the class for over 20 years. I think some changes are VERY necessary. In the end I took him out of her class along with my other 2 children who were in the upper grades.

I had an awful experience with the pre-k program! They treated my child terribly!!!If you put your child in this program you can expect your child to get diagnosed by the pre-k teacher with every aliment and problem such as ADD, Speech and auditory issues. The pre-k teacher will then send you to St. Francis where your child will be evaluated. After a medical doctor tells you nothing is wrong with your child the pre-k teacher will disagree and make you keep a notebook with you all year to drill her point home to you every week. My child got sick in school and they told my child to clean it up. I wish I could tell you my whole story here. Pre-k should not be difficult. It was HELL for both parent and child. No one should have to experience this. The principal does not have control over his own school and does not seem to know right from wrong.

The pre-k teacher called my house after I got off the phone with her, I thought my daughter had a brain tumor. I spent three days in bed crying before I found out from our doctor it was nothing.

The best way to describe this program is that it is like boot camp. They are extremely anal about everything, but truly know nothing. The children are expected to know everything before entering the program. If the teacher has to help your child in the slightest way, you will hear about it.

I complained to the principal, he told me I was the only one to complain. I know I'm not, I spoke to other parents. I was happy to see the previous review - thanks for confirming I'm not alone.

This a great school, with warm, loving teachers and staff. They offer pre-k thru 8th grade, with plenty of activities such as a basketball and a soccer team. Band, drama and chorus are also offered.

This school is outstanding. My child has attended since Kindergarten. The staff, teachers and principal are outstanding and we could not ask for more.
