The Correct name is Montford Point Marine Association - New York Chapter. It is a Non-profit veterans organization dedicated to preserving history and legacy of thr first African Americans to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps circa 1942-1949, and the extended history of those that followed.Membership is open to Veterans and members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. We strive to continue in the support of Educational Programs, Community Service, Social awareness and Health issues, and mentoring.Some Chapters also offer a highly active Ladies Auxillary which aides in the efforts of our organization. Recent efforts by the chapter have yeilded the filming of the documentary "The Right to Freedom" narrated by Louis Gosset jr. Our National Museum is also located on the grounds of Camp Johnson North Carolina - renamed after one of Sgt Maj Gilbert "Hashmark" Johnson. Many of our Chapters have employment links designed to help veterans and returning services members to civilian life.
