Great Reception at the Burgundy Basin
by Theresa B.
We were married at sea February, 2009. We had our Reception, with a Renewal of Vows, at The Burgundy Basin, on May 17, 2009. We give tons of credit to the management and staff for the way this wonderful event came together. They really helped make our special day wonderful.
We chose The Burgundy Basin because of consistency: (we had been to functions there over the years and the food and service were always good), and value (we were able to pick what we wanted -not a package- and it was still affordable).
The main things I would like to comment on, that I think people would be interested in, are as follows:
Experience: Michael Clarcq was wonderful to work with. We had a few things we knew we wanted, like served dinner instead of buffet, and a few details, (fresh lilacs on the tables, Serve the band members immediately after the head table so they have adequate time to eat before playing again), but there were so many other things we did not know about or were confused about the choices. Michael and Denise spent a lot of time discussing how things worked, what worked well or not, etc, based on their years of doing Receptions. The only thing no one thought to discuss was Wedding Crashers. I handled them myself when the situation arose. However, I am confident they would have had suggestions for this, if we had discussed it ahead of time.
Food and service: They have experienced waitstaff and bartenders, and everyone was happy with the service. We had 2 bartenders for 108 guests, and no one had to wait long for a drink. All the food came out like clockwork, and everyone thought the dinners were great. We were able to offer our guests 3 dinner choices, plus they accommodated 3 of our guests that were vegetarian. All of the dinners came out hot. All of the servers were very personable and efficient. They bake Wedding Cakes there, and we ordered our cake from them. It was as delicious as it was beautiful. We ordered the Cake Table Decorations, and they were lovely. We ordered our Groom's Cake from another bakery, and they served it without an additional "cutting charge", like some places have. They cut extra slices of the Wedding cake and Grooms Cake for people that wanted seconds, placing them on the cake table.
Day Of Reception Manager: I know all banquet halls have a manager that handles their staff. Here, the manager is there (in our case, it was Michael himself) and handles your people as well. He is there when the Band and Audio Visual people come to set up, available for directions/questions. He got all of our wedding party out into the hall and lined up before the ceremony, and again at the end of the cocktail hour. He did all the announcing. He got the house microphone where it needed to be at the different times. He brought us drinks when we were in the receiving line. He was a very calming presence and this was very helpful.
But the thing that personally impressed me the most was this: I had prepared a schedule of when I wanted things to happen- Pictures, Ceremony time, Dinner time, etc. Many people warned me not to get too committed to things happening like I had them on the paper, but not Michael. He took his copy and MADE IT HAPPEN! You would not believe the number of people that commented on how smoothly the Ceremony and Reception ran. I was very pleased at that.
We would certainly hold another event here, and would give them a great recommendation. They have our address and permission for people to contact us if they have any further questions.

I was at a conference recently and had a vegetarian meal. It consisted of sauce, broccoli, artichoke hearts, and pasta. Sauce from a Prego jar would have been better! The salad and dressing and the roll was fine. Others had chicken and were ok with it. My mom went there not too long ago and wasn't pleased with it. Nice sized banquet rooms and our waitress was excellent!
