A trip to Cracker Barrel is like going back in time. And that's a good thing! From the first moment you step onto their "porch" and try out the white wooden rockers, till the exact second their corn muffins slathered in butter touch your taste buds, you will be delighted with your trip to this little touch of the Smokey Mountains right here at home. The Macaroni and cheese is so much like Grandma's that you'll wish you had more of it, and the chicken salad is so mouth watering that you won't need bread to eat it on. I have yet to have any meal at the Cracker Barrel that didn't fall into the "affordable and delicious" category that's for sure. The breakfasts are out of this world with their hash brown casserole, and smoked meats mmmm..pancakes melt in your mouth, and the amount is almost too much for one person to eat. The staff is always polite, obliging, and speedy, and your meal comes to you at the temperature that it's supposed to be (hot if hot, cold if cold)
The gift shop is a treat all by itself, and I actually find myself taking a ride to Cracker Barrell just to pick up some Yankee Candle Tarts or some old time Circus Peanut candy. Make the trip. Between the food, service, prices and fun. It's worth it.

PROS: There IS something for Everybody here.
CONS: This place isn't a secret. It fills up fast, and there are lines on weekend

I found Cracker Barrel to be the type of place to go not only for a home cooked meal, but also for a nice big dinner at a reasonable price. I visited the location on Upper Front St. in Binghamton on 5/21/05.
I purchased the chicken fried steak with three sides: turnip greens, mashed potatoes and gravy, and fried okra. The mashed potatoes tasted very homemade, just the way I like them, and all the side dishes were in even larger portions than most restaurants would give. Nothing was over or under cooked, everything was perfect, flavorful, and the steak was nice and tender! Each dinner comes also with biscuits and corn bread, and they melted in my mouth.
As for the service, the servers were beyond courteous. I would have to estimate it took between 10-15 minutes from the time of order to receive my meal. Each table has one of those wooden puzzles with the pegs, so no one gets bored between the drinks and the biscuits. I even got offers for refills on my iced tea, as well as for dessert
Expect an entree price range about $5-$15, between the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. Also don't forget to take advantage of the country store they have at the entrance. It's a cute little gift store with country/down home related items, as well as certain food items (apple butter!), candy, and toys for the kids to keep them busy during the wait for dinner! However, if you go on the weekends, you may encounter a wait for a table, for they are quite busy.

PROS: very well priced for ample amount of food, courteous service
CONS: weekends do tend to produce waitlists for a table
