I eat at Tono on a regular basis. The food is fresh, relatively healthy, and the price is right. I am very glad to have Tono in my neighborhood.

The recent renovation was a terrible idea. Previously, they catered to a very specific and well-defined market segment ? the people who want quick, inexpensive and decent quality sushi and bento boxes. They had lots of specials and combinations. You could casually eat in or take out. The atmosphere matched the food and prices. It was, for what it was, perfect. They really had no competitors in that market segment.

Now there is a much more limited selection, and the prices, although not much higher than they were before, still seem higher b/c of their new menu and complete shift in atmosphere. They?re now competing with Hana Sushi and Monster Sushi ? two establishments that are very nearby. I?ve eaten at Tono once since their renovation and I didn?t think it was a good value. I?ll probably not go back there unless they bring the old model back.

Slimy, bad tasting, overly salty sushi. I think sushi made in a high school cafeteria would be better
