They cheated me so bad. that i try to talk to Master Card. Andr is the one that is the best at cheating you. We bought several items,1 iphone 3G, 2 sd card Kingston 4 gb, 1 case for a Kodak digital photo,1 card to unluck the iphone universal simcard, 1 Lettermann knife, 1 fm transmitter for the iphone,1 battery for a cannon camrecorder phone,1 armband 1 usb connecter for iphone,1 connect to schwitc in Denmark All that I paid 1749 $ for, They cheated me for about 500$ I wrote to them, but did not here from them at all, the battery and the simcard didn't work, and I mailed it back to the store to have it exchanged; I could'nt use it anyway, I am so furius that you have at store that can cheat tourist in that way, because you most of the times leave the day after. We where in the store wednesday and were leaving NY saturday, and they had vacation and closed the store for Thursday, friday and saturday. I cannot say enough, keep out of this store. When i paid i used my mastercard, but they didn't put it through the normal way of using electronic card, they used the old way, so I had my mastercard changed, in case they also cheat with that. I do not understand, that people can do this to other people, just to gain more money. Because i do not think that they have earned the money.

Don't enter this shop !!
I'm so upset from my New York trip that I will do this short.
They priced 899 dollars + tax for macro/wide angle set that costs about 50 dollars on other shops. You can't refund or change items, they get angry and you feel very bad and afraid.
I will discuss this with Master card/and search for a way to stop them.
The rating is far below zero.

Unfortunately we got scammed too. Andre got us into the shop claiming that an iBook cost 350$. He then sold a Pocket projector to us, charged us for two extra batteries that were actually included in the box another 400$, a video converter 290$ (which we got only when I questioned the bill), a video adapter which cost (we found that out later) 48$ for 290$ etc.etc.
This shop preys on tourists who will not have a chance to come back because they are in NYC just for a few days. Their trick is that you get an invoice showing a lump sum so that when you go to court you can never proof what you paid for.
We are surprised that a shop like this should be able to go on scamming people, because their customers don't expect scams in a location like this. Gives a bad reputation to NYC.

The whole crew at the Lafnac Digital Computes Ltd in New York are gangsters.
They try to steel your money.

We visited this shop on our trip to New York.
First they talked friendly to us, asked us about our trip and made good offers, but they told us, that they have to order the products (it was a Panasonic digital Camera and a IPod Nano we asked for).
We went there every day (wasn??t a real problem because we passed this shop close to Grand Central Station every day) and where put off every day to the next day.
On our last day the offered us to get the parts quickly if we would pay a higher price.
So be careful and don??t deal with them, the only thing they want to do is to trick you.
If they make a good offer, try to take it but don??t let you put off to the next day.
And please pay attention to the quality of the product they will give to you.
Because of there very good offer from them at the beginning we missed to negotiate with other vendors in New York.

I want to warn everybody for the shop on the opposite on 5th Ave with the name of Le Petit Inc. Maybe it seems another shop than Lafnac but this shop used to have the same name (also Lafnac) . The way they operate is exactly the same! I was swindled and cheated badly in the shop of Le Petit. They sold me a cameralense for $300 and when I looked on the internet later, I saw the price was only $60 at Amazon. The userviews I read of Lafnac are quite similar. I did a complaint on www.nyc.gov/consumers and I hope one day someone can stop thes guys, because I feel quite helpless.
The rating is far below zero !!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT...DO NOT .... DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE... YOU WILL BE ROBBED.. LIED TO.... SCAMMED.... authorities should close places like this..... I WILL NOT REST UNTIL I SEE THEM CLOSED... We went in for a Camara and where practically "forced" to buy a computer the camara never appeard, but they charged for the lap top.... promised the camara would be there next day...otherwise I would be able to return the lap top (eventhough they did not accept to make the charge back that same day) ..... obviously the camara never arrived.... I am sure they assumed I would not be back...but we did..... they got mean.. agressive....the guy insulted me.... talked about laws in the US (who asked them???!!!) ..... threw the lap top to the floor and made the charge back to my credit card....
if you do not want to spoil your holidays... AVOID THIS STORE... ADVISE YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY.... REPORT THEM!!!!
I ended up at B&H buying a great camara for the correct price and came back home truly happy....

August 8th 2009, visit to NY:
I bought there an I-phone: newest one, cheaper, internet everywhere. Price on the back: $1499,97.... Paid: $816, plus a chip (???) to make internet accessible everywhere. I paid $ 300 for this chip. It was off my account before they told me about it.
Back home in the apple store: It's absolutely not the newest I-phone. Made simlock free and with newer software on it. It was sold to me without box and information.
And then this little beamer, 'very good for business-presentations!! Buy 2! Also for your friend at home.' I am glad I didn't. Paid $ 1700 for it. I can buy it here for ? 300 !! And the 2 extra batteries for $319 were paid before they told me.
The more you trust their information, the lesser you know about the stuff, the more they robb you! Let the police do something here.

The buisness that these two men conduct should be illegal and they should be shut down. My parents came in from the uk and were led to believe that the camera these guys sold them was orginally $599 and that he was just charging them $299 to give them a great offer. Another $60 for a cheap looking camera case, $100 for a 1GB memory card and another $70 for a bogus additional battery, which didnt work...total of $570 with tax..PLEASE!!!! i could of picked all this up online or at a department store for not much more than $250. I did the research and wrote down real prices from different vendors before i went back in.
I went back with them to the store and guess what, NO REFUNDS!!!!! I screamed at the top of my lungs until they finally upgraded the camera...Still was not even close to being good enough! But what can you do! At least now they were down 200 instead of 300!
These men are con artists and should no be allowed to rob people on a daily basis..My advice is to never step foot in the store and research online what you should be charged for a camera before you shop!

Cons: These two scam artists rip tourist off everyday!

I'm very upset about the two salesmen in this shop. These two salesmen are thieves and work togheter to rip off the tourists. I was interested in a camera. They tried to force me in a bad manner also to buy a ibook and a projector. I'm happy, I didn't.
Paying the camera by mastercard, these two frogs disturbed me heavyly. They insisted, that they have to put the price on the check, because there is also to fill out the amount of the tax. Later I realized, that they put $ 335 instead of the agreed $ 185 on the check. With an stamp on the check "No Refund". I'm really upset about these frogs.

I was in town on vacation and purchased an iphone. The phone is completely useless.

These people prey on tourists because we usually don't discover the fraud until we return home. By then, its too late to go back to the store and they won't take your phone calls when you call to complain. They have been getting away with ripping people off because most people don't report them. I reported them to VISA and hope they will reconsider their business relationship with these crooks.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this store. If you discover that they indeed ripped you off, please REPORT THEM!! They are still in business because there have not been enough complaints of their fraudulent activity for anyone to do anything about it. When I reported them to Visa, they said my report was the first complaint they received about them. Don't let them get away with this.

I also was ripped off by this company. I realised the next day and reported them to the NYC Dept of Consumer Affairs. They were very good and rang the store and told them to give me a refund. I returned the goods and got a credit on my AMEX which of course has never been presented to AMEX. AMEX has now given me a credit and is chasing their money with Lafnec Digital. All credit cards need to stop allowing these people access to them. You can make a complaint at www.nyc.gov/consumers. I feel very sorry for those tourists doing their big trip that they have saved for ever for and these creeps rip them off. I knew enough to know where to get help not everyone does. The credit companies and NYC have a moral obligation to close these people down especially when the pop up under another name as is the case so often. They should be in jail.

I also was ripped off by this company. I realised the next day and reported them to the NYC Dept of Consumer Affairs. They were very good and rang the store and told them to give me a refund. Got hustled mega big time by smooth operator Andre & his friendly side kicks. Steered expertly from buying the PC on the advertisement in published Manahttan City Guide available at tourist information. Same sad tale of 40% off official manufacturer's price & just about to close for 4 day inventory sale and need to shift stock at knock down prices - according to stick on lables carefully removed after purchase, Suddenly a "bargain" kept increasing in cost which turned out to be the standard package but billed as if they were optional extras. No guarantees supplied despite the printed advert. So called receipts supplied in sealed Lafnac envelope & "everything in the bag". Challenged the extra $300 on bill & told it had already been approved by credit card comany and I was mistaken about prices. Returned to amazingly open shop the following day- 4 day inventory being conducted upstairs in the stockroom was the explanation. No way was there going to be a refund of money when I presented documentary proof that the correct price was $450 RRP and not the $1100. Got laughed at in response that they had misrepresented the goods, their value and the blatantly false sales spiel - they know about torts & civil action compared to criminal action. But loading the credit card is a criminal action so they reluctantly agreed to refund $600 by way of credit card refund. I watched the electronic transfer go through, have the recipt but no refund has appeared on my credit card balance 3 weeks later, Only now do I realise that it's just a slip of paper with no credit card company's name on it. I'm hoping my credit card company can dispute the bill as there's no way that I got the goods or value according to their published advertisement or sales spiel. This shop MUST be closed down and made to acount for its scam tactics.

Sadly I'm just another tourist taken in by the "genuine" 40% off RRP off goods because of the 4 day stocktake sale and "closed for 4 days". I was hustled into taking a far more expensive item than the one advertised in the New York cty guides which had lured me in. All manner of gadgets were also offered with 3 salesmen bustling about distracting the purchase. I signed a warranty certificate without realising it was a cover for a blank credit card authorisation. Getting back to the hotel I opened their sealed envelope for the receipt and warranty. No warranty and an extra $400 to the final bill for no extra goods. Checking the manufacturer's web site I found that I'd been charged THREE times the RRP which should have been 40% off that according t ther spiel. I returned to the shop the next morning for an explanation and a refund. I was accused of trying to scam Lafnac by returning an inferior PC for a refund. But they couldn't show me a "superior" PC or their stock list with it on it. They sneered and said that any dispute was a civil matter and I was stuck wth the goods as they weren't taking it back despite being unused after being out of the shop overnight for only 9 hours. As the shop was filling with customers they agreed to do an electronic credit card refund for $400. I watched it being authorised but my credit card company has no trace of it even after a week. The Lafnac manager also took away the orginal receipt and rewrote one minus the fictional $400 refund. This is no civil matter but is outright criminal actions from start to finsh. But Lafnac prey on tourists and their 42nd street location knowing that their customers are in NY for only a few days. The New York city guides shouldn't accept and publish Lafnac advertisements in their brochures as it makes you think that they're a respectable retailer. Buy nothing from them. They know the ropes and how far they can go wth their scams. I should have had 3 PCs at the RRP but am left with a tripled bill to pay for a PC which wasn't what they clamed it to be.

My husband and I are aged pensioners and we were takien to the cleaners by Andre & his fellow thieves. We had the same story of the inventory sale, shop closing for 4 days, just about to close for the day - after first being quizzed about our tourist status. Andre said that we were getting 40% off the recommended retail price. We paid $1200 only to discover that we should have paid no more than $450. We were charged extra for everything that came as part of the standard package. We turned up at the shop the next morning and were accused of changing the prices on Samsung's official web page. They declined to show us their stock prices when asked to justify their claim that they bought the PC for $1450 & weren't making a profit out of the sale. Andre said that the shop could charge anything they liked and there was a difference between RRP and Lafnac prices. The manager tried to palm us off with every piece of garbage he wanted rid of, mostly obsolete stock. We were accused of having written the 40 independent negative reports on this website just to get our money back.. Finally the manager offered to refund $300 using Visa electronic transfer. We have the Visa refund receipt but no refund was ever put through so they're also working some Visa scam. Why does Visa allow this to happen? Why do the electronic & camera manufacturers still supply them? Why does New York allow these scam merchants to continue operating and give their fine city a bad name. My advice is to keep well away from these rogues and give the homeless the thousand bucks rather than line the pockets of these master thieves.

Cons: Thieves, liars & scoundrels of the lowest order

Just like others I was pressured into making a purchase by their lie that prices were reduced as they were about to do a stocktake & close for a couple of days. Sounded genuine but clearly a way to pressure you into making a purchase without doing further research. They got me interested by underpricing the SLR body, then ripped me off on the lens. They tried to sway me into buying a different camera (like others, I assume so that it was a product I was unfamiliar with & they could further con me). They told me they would swap the US battery charger for an International one (which I thought shouldn't be necessary) & then charged me for it. When I asked to see the original they said it was in the warehouse which was closed (the camera comes with an international charger!) They told me they would give me an international warrantee but would not give me any papers to support this and they removed the US warrantee from the box. They never told me there was no refunds until the payment had already gone through despite the fact I had discussed refunds with the salesman. They suggested I pay by debit card so they didn't have to ring creditcard company for authorisation as it would take too long (which meant I couldn't stop the payment - I didn't realise this at the time). He also tried to get some cash out of me as part payment which was all a bit strange but didn't do. In the end I made no savings from what I could have purchased in the UK without all the stress & with the correct warrantee. Because its on a main street & looks decent people get mislead. No matter what you do they will not refund you. They tell you that 'the salesman probably did say that, but I'm still not going to refund you'! From what I can tell they have other shops in the area so watch out. Go to B&H Photo - they are central, reliable etc If you're unlucky & buy from them ring 311 & report them to consumer complaints and better bus bureau, try to stop payment - they need to be stopped

40% off (just today) for a new iPod Nano. Too good to be true!! The salesman probably showed us the real iPod, but when the Birthday-gift for my son was examined back in Denmark it showed up to be a fake copy. Well made, but still fake and not working properly. Tried to sell us a lot of Accessories, which we luckily avoided.. KEEP AWAY from this shop unless you are a pro. The rating should be no stars.

I got ripped off by the creeps at Lafnac in the same way as everyone else here but complained to my credit card company and after a bit pushing I got my money back when I mentioned section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. I can't send you a link but you'll find what you need by Googling " section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act ".

I also gave Mastercard a link to this site, invited them to get in touch with you all for more input and am looking in to getting Lafnac's ability to take cards removed to protect others. I only came across this site after being ripped off, too late for me - but together we can stop these criminals - so please complain to your card provider if you haven't already.

So, thank you to all of you who took the time to contribute to this page and warn others - I'm sure you helped my case. If I can be of assistance to you then please get in touch.

Ok, it seems that like all of the people that have thus far reviewed LAFNAC, i feel like one of their latest victims of cheating and dishonesty.
I needed a laptop and had been shopping around NYC looking for a bargain, I had no idea about this 30% off stock taking thing and was purely taken in by the price of this laptop in the window. But the guy that served me(sounded european), refused to show me the one that I initially went in for, and instead kept showing me this other tiny acer model, which I knew that I could get back in the UK for less than the 550 dollars that he was trying to sell it to me for. Usually, I'm pretty astute and know when i see a bargain, but for some reason with this guy, in 20 minutes, he had me handing over 469 dollars including my taxi money back to JFK, for the same model I could have bought in the UK for 300 quid!! The laptop wasnt in a box, labelled properly, with no proper paper work, the international guarantee is non existent and now I am left wondering how long this laptop will be working for before I'm forced to pay out double when I buy a new one!
Don't fall for it and end up like everyone else here, feeling instantly foolish the moment you leave the shop, knowing deep down that there was in fact no bargain to be had and that you've been robbed!!!

Why can?t I give a 0 star rating?

My review is not going to be any more favourable than those that have gone before me. I?d also like to echo the sentiment that people should avoid this place at all costs. To the extent of crossing the street to get past.

As with others, I went in inquiring about one of their window display products, and twenty head-spinning minutes later I was standing looking at a selection of gadgetry totalling $1200, none of it being what I had originally asked about?!?

I guess had they not pushed the boat out so far, as to try to sell me 3-4 times the value of the product that I had originally asked about, they might have even gotten away with it, but thankfully not. And the whole idea that I decided not to buy in the end seemed strangely alien to them? Greed? Greed? Greed? I never understand why society tolerates these sort of bottom feeders. Possibly it?s the economy that?s making it tough for these guys, and hence their overt tactics, but lets hope they close sooner than later.

Again, I?m only happy that I walked away? but the whole experience left a sour taste in my mouth. I wonder what on earth they could be possibly counting in their twice weekly stock taking (yawn)?

Hello,
really make sure you do not buy in this joint (and we've noticed other similar places in NY) they are very professional and you'll get robbed in a great manner !

Those guys don't hesitate to go out of the shop while you're browsing to make you enter, then they'll propose whatever they have handy, telling you mostly false informations on the equipment (such as the pixel count for a the Nikon camera he sold us : they told us 12 MPix when it's actually 6 MPix - but we didn't have any means to check !), and creating a sense of urgency ("inventory starts tomorrow and we'll be closed for 3 days").

Also everything is really overpriced, they just play with you being jetlagged, not having much time to get around and compare, and not having access to the Internet for easy double-check.

Anyway, we paid 400$ more than the price but got back part of our money by coming back the next day (of course inventory had been ... cancelled !) and claiming our money back.

Avoid those places, it's easy : they always sell cameras/computers/suitcases !

All the best

Please don't buy any products at this shop otherwise you'll end like us. We came for a city trip and bought a camera and two iphones at this shop. We got all the fancy explanations about bargains, supercool accessoires (which are highly priced on the invoice) but when we checked the purchases we maded the day after we had to conclude they ripped us of for more than 1000 $. So please, please, do not buy at this shop. The main thing we learned from this is never to buy expensive goods when experiencing jetlag (and not thinking straight). We think they prey on this kind of customers.

I bought a laptop in this shop : a Compaq Presario C700, but over priced ! This product was tagged "special offer" and the guy confirmed that it was a real bargain. In fact, this laptop is not from the lattest and I could have get a recent one with better options for a much better price. I'm from Europe and the guy knew I didn't have much time to make up my mind and not too many point of comparison as US products may be different in many ways from european ones. Actually, I was interested in an Apple product at first. Of course, he was nice and smiling and very persuasive, but I strongly recommend not to deal with this shop : kind of hard to realize that you paid 20% above the average price.

Go to B&H Photo - they are central, reliable etc. If you're unlucky & buy from them ring 311 & report them to consumer complaints, try to stop payment, better bus bureau - they need to be stopped

Pros: There are none

Cons: They are thieves and liars

I am currently working on my credit card company to withdraw their facilites from these crooks and anyone else who has been ripped off should persue it so no one else suffers the same fate.I was told I was being charged 1100 dollars but was actually charged 1400 dollars.I could have bought the same phone much cheaper in the UK and I feel a fool to have been ripped of this way.Like others I saw the shop and thought it would be a proper shop as it is on a major street not a con shop on a back road. They seperated my husband and myself and kept us both talking while they helped themselves to my credit card. The oldest trick and we fell for it.

Thieves!! They underprice and when you are just to pay they put more like ridiculous battery in separate. Big liers: you ask something like is the digital camera case is included? And they respond yes. But afterwards they will bill it!

And the worst: when you figure out your buying got 50%+ over original price can be too late.

They will not cancel the transaction and almost put you against the wall. Trust me: you will not convince them to reverse transaction.

Avoid this store!!!! 0 Stars!!!!

What you pay for is not what you get!. Check what you are buying is exactly what you are getting in the box, I paid over $600 dollars for a new Samsung camera, only to find a second hand camera in the box when I returned to the UK. What is worse it does not work and I paid for it with cash. In the UK we trust stores and there advisers to be honest in their dealings and advise, evidently this is not the case with LAFNAC. I am now back in the UK with a dead second hand camera and no way of rectifying the problem. An enjoyable holiday spoiled by a store of rogues and annoyed at myself for being ripped off.

Pros: Cheap electronics

This firm is criminal. Take care what you buy and what you find in your bag when you're home, it don't has the same specifications as offered. Especially tourists are victums of this criminal way of doing business. Take care of your creditcard!!! Better is to avoid this shop. Ask me whats happened if you want: ac.vermeulen@hccnet.nl

There only interest is to cheat their customers. I paid double price by believing their recommondations.

The business methods of Lafnac are to confuse and berate the unsuspecting tourist into handing over his payment card for goods offered at above the market price. There is a price shown on the camera in the store( not in the window) which in my case was $899; this was then offered at $399 with free extras. On handing over the card, I was then shown a printed list totalling over $520, but I was not allowed to cancel the transaction. The price was dropped to $475 which was slightly below UK prices but still well above US prices. I was informed that the cash had left my account and that I would not be allowed to cancel the deal as they did not have the technology to reverse card transactions. I was told that if I left the goods I would still be charged and that I would not be allowed to take the goods until I had signed a sales slip. As a senior citizen this is distressing and I signed having withstood their aggressive behaviour

They don't even deserve a single star. I can't explain the whole story because it's just too long, but in a nutshell, they are cheaters, and big liars. They try to sell you something you don't want and just as an example if you buy a computer the battery comes separately with it's own price! Or you are charged for the wireless connection in a computer that has it already built in. Unbelievable....It was so frustrating to deal with them, they are expert thieves.

I bought a camera at Lafnac in july 2006. I was persuaded to buy another model which was supposed to be more expensive and much better than the one I asked for. I could always change my mind - even after 2 years said the staff. I went there the day after (a saturday) and wanted to buy my first choice instead. Absolutely impossible! I left the store crying with my daughter in hand. I got a much simpler, outdated camera at three times it's original list price. A lens which wasn't compatible with the camera and also the camera used the xD-card though I specifically explained I wanted to use my SD-cards from my other camera,
My only comsolation is I stopped the VISA-payment when I arrived home. The company didn't get the payment and I haven't received a demand for any money yet. I wouldn't trust them for the time of day!

30% stocktaking discount is simply a trick to get you to part with your hard earned cash on the day. Much of the stock is old & obsolete & the staff will try anything to get you to 'trade up' from what appears to be a bargain to a better specced but overpriced item. Stay away & stick to reputable retailers.

Awful!

If I could give ZERO stars I would! It seems that they are doing a 30% stock take reduction everyday. This is the first time that I have been conned in a shop in a major city. Lying and cheating is exactly what goes on here. We purchased a laptop computer that was supposed to have international warranty only to find that when we got home to the UK that it was only covered in Canada or the USA - not really that convenient from the other side of the Atlantic. We were also sold a "6 hour" battery - which lasts a total of 1 and a half hours. Now we cannot even get a new battery without flying back to the US. Like a previous reviewer, I am now looking forward to going back to NYC just so that I can go round to their shop again. Do the US not have an office of fair trading or similar? In Europe we are not used to being ripped off in city centre shops, nor are we used to be lied to. DO NOT SHOP HERE.

If you have been cheated or conned into buying something from these retailers then immediately report it to your credit card company. It is likely that the payment will have gone through since Lafnac telephone for pre clearence authorisation. You may have to wait a while but it is worth pursuing for repayment. I did and have been reimbursed by Mastercard.
