This is a great bistro that I have been going to for years! It is the perfect place to go for late night dining or for a great brunch. All the food is done right and there is a good wine selection. There is always a very cool scene and the service is friendly and helpful.

Dinner here was not so special. Staff did an okay job, but they weren't so friendly. I wasn't blown away by the wine selection. The tartare wasn't great either. Atmosphere is okay, but all in all, this place is probably not worth the fancy prices. I would go back for a drink at the bar, but not for another meal.

Went for my birthday-My wife, 2 and a half year old and I. We were seated promptly and brought a high chair.

Started with frisse salad with egg. Possibly one of the best salads I've eaten-ever. Crisp Frisee, bacon and some truffle oil dressing. Steak frite au poivre was tastly and cooked to perfection. The chef does the au poivre sauce sans cream, but thats ok. Washed it down with a nice chimay.

It was a Friday nice and the crowd was one of the most ecclectic mix of people I've ever seen in a NYC restaurant. And lots of babies and young kids.

The bill came out to $250 with tip which was my mini beef with the check.

Pros: Great Steak frite, Attentive WaitStaff, Kid Friendly(yep)

Cons: Pricey, cramped

The Moroccan Martini is quite possibly one of the best drinks in the entire city. The food is tantalizing and the lights are just dim enough to create the perfect date ambiance.

I went to The Odeon on Dec 31 for lunch. We were 6 and were seated promptly. Service was good. The manager Aaron was very nice. I had the special soup for the day which had a lot of flavor, chicken breast paillard and the molten chocolate cake with hazelnut ice cream. I will definitely go back there! we spent around 300 and something which i found fine including a bottle of champagne and cocktails.

I just moved to Tribeca and have tried to understand what is up with this joint for a few times now. It never delivered to my expectations - food portions are miniscule, prices ridiculously high and a service that is absent in every possible way. After my third visit I actually felt hungry after having dinner there (???)
Tired looking decor, tired looking food and a very high tab await you here!

The Odeon was a huge disappointment. My wife and I could not understand why people seem to like the place so much. The service was decent, but the most important component, the food, was lacking in every way. There was no color to our plates--everything was a pale yellow or greenish-gray My wife paid $14 for a soggy salad that would barely suffice as a first course. My eggs benedict were subpar in every way--the English muffin was burnt, the bearnaise sauce without any flavor and the potatoes which accompanied my dish were gooey, charred and again, flavorless. None of the ingredients seemd fresh and none of the dishes had any "love". To make matters even worse the coffee was stale, the juice was sour. We realized that the waitstaff probably knew we didn't enjoy our dishes as they didn't ask a single question such as "everything okay here?" , "can we get you anything else?" "are your dishes to your liking?". It just seems that none of the employees there care about the food or if it makes their customers happy. If you are in Tribeca, avoid the Odeon and instead check out one of the other, better staples of the neighborhood.

The problem with this restaurant is that the staff has their jobs split up so much that if one thing goes wrong it will only get worse. The managers are full of apologizes but are unable to correct the situation. We arrived and sat at our table, 18 minutes later a waiter tells us he will be right with us. 10 minutes after that another waitress comes over to take our order, both drinks and food at the same time. ( its crowded and she is starting the feeling we should move along). She returns 5 minutes later to tell my guest that they have run out of the special she had ordered and would she pick something else. Our apetizers never comes, and 20 minutes after the waitresses last visit a new person comes to the table with my guest's order and asked if I wanted anything. This new waiter didn't know what to do so I flagged down the second waitress who told me she was sure it would be out soon. I asked her to check in the kitchen and she did to tell me that the order was forgotten but did I want and apetizer while I wait. When the meal came 12 minutes later it was completely cold. They did not forget to make the order, they just put it aside. Knowing that I was going to complain, they sent over the manager to apologize which he is so talented at doing he didn't even stop and kept moving. At the end the bill came, with the apetizer on it and the waitress told me I should have said something. It became very amusing at this point. The table next to ours turned and told me they had sent their order back twice because they kept placing entrees on the table that they did not order. Finally we go to the front for the coat check. This did not look promising because the table across from us that left 20 minutes earlier were still waiting for their coats. 17 minutes later our sentence at this restaurant had be served and we were paroled. Its been open since the late 80s and it needs to be put out of its misery and ours too.

Pros: Exit door

Cons: staff, food, overcrowded tables

Odeon is nothing special. I don't understand why this place is always over crowded with people are starving. Plus I have to wait for at least 30 min. whenever I go there. Their food is nothing special. But it is a sort of safe zone to provide an average food. But don't expect too much. I prefer Baltazar or Pastis rather than Odeon.

From a former employee who has also eaten at the Odeon:

to EAT at the ODEON:

standard stuff done well. Anything from the beef tartare to the steak is terrific. The calamari appetizer is fantastic, as is the goat cheese salad. Eat some of the fish dishes and meat, and indulge yourself in side orders of the fries. PLEASE ASK for extras of the Odeon sauce. It's a great, slightly spicey, totally addictive aoili. And the hanger steak is amazing, it comes with a great bernaise sauce.(did i spell that wrong?)

here's the caution: the tough "house manager" makes the new waitstaff only wait tables for brunch and lunch until they're "lucky enough" to work dinners. therefore, you only get decent waitstaff for dinners. the brunch and lunch waitstaff are all newbies and have to figure out whether you want your omelette "regular" or "usual," which entails the condiments on top of the omelette. and now that outdoor seating is a commodity, good luck getting a table outdoors.

My experience couldn't be more different from the previous review! Everyone from the hostess to the bartender was extremely nice. The waitstaff was very attentive. Try the spinach salad with goat cheese and pine nuts - well seasoned and the spinach was fresh. I also had a delicious fig tart which was absolutely delicious. In fact, given the large volume of people who walk in and out, I didn't think that either service or food was compromised at all. Highly recommended.

What happened to The Odeon? Lately, the odds of getting good service is 50/50. We were there about a month ago and the guy was on top of everything. But last week, another guy, forgot we were there. Still...the food is consistently good. The calamari is excellent, as is the lamb.

Another place to eat late at night after a party or a date. the simplicity of this place is its greatest advantage.

To start off your meal, the bread basket filled with yummy cranberry scones, pumpkin bread and corn bread that is worth the trip alone even if you don't order another thing. Wash it down with their rich coffee and order the Eggs Benny- its to die for. Not overly buttery or lemony and they don't over-cook the eggs like some inconsiderate chefs like to maliciously do. The potatoes are seasoned to perfection and shaped into a wedge that is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. If it's a nice day sit outside- there is alot of foot traffic in front but not alot of cars on the weekend, which makes for a pleasant dining experience.

i would HIGHLY recommend this for brunch. Not for the main entree, the staff or the ambience...but for the bread basket. i have never ate something so yummy. This was no poor man's bread. This was heaven...scones as far as the eye could see, the best scones i've ever had! Corn bread that beats cheese cake...and a raison bread like you would not believe. Please go! But leave your low carb diet at home!

They have excellent brunch. If you get there around noon it's not too crowded - after that you might have to wait a few mins. Generous portions and their eggs benedict is always excellent. Good waitstaff.

Ooh! La La! My first Dinner experience at The Odeon was simply fabulous! Food was great. Ambience was casual yet stylish, and the service was superb. The wait staff were a sexy group of professional actor types...and don't miss the gorgeous Maitre'D, Sal! This restaurant comes very highly recommended! I loved it!

This restaurant was recommended to us "out of towners" by some local friends, and we weren't disappointed. Sure, the wait was a bit long for a table, but the service was good and the food was pretty good too. I had the grilled tuna, served medium rare, and it was cooked just right. The vinegarette-marinated onions and garlic it was served with provided an unusual (but very good) change of pace. The calimari was great, too. Dessert portions were a bit skimpy though. We had the flourless chocolate cake with pistacio ice cream - the cake looked about the size of the bottom half of a cupcake, and the ice cream was scooped out with a melon-ball scoop.

I don't know what haricot vert might be, but I agree with the last poster. Anything but the spinach. My date and I suspected uneaten portions are secretly being recycled from plate to plate, which is commendable from an environmental point of view but makes for a perilous dining experience.

Too bad, because the Roquefort Burger is delicious. Next time, though, I'm sticking with the fries.

the food is great, the service is always friendly and attentive, the ambience is classic. overall it is always a great experience except for one small detail. the spinach sucks. it is way overcooked and not flavorful. if spinach comes with your dish - ask to have it replaced with the much better haricot verts.
