On December 22, 2012 I went to the Armory Dog & Cat Hospital as a "walk-in" hoping to have my Yorkie seen by a vet. My Yorkie had hurt her leg the day before (she has a luxating patella in that same leg) and I wanted to see if the condition had worsened or if maybe the vet could wrap her leg for support. I arrived at 12:31 PM, I signed in and waited. There were only five other people before me so I did not think the wait would be long. Boy was I wrong! After sitting there, patiently waiting for two hours, I finally left at 2:31 PM, without my dog having seen the vet! Before I left I contacted Riverdale Veterinary Group, they were closing at 3:00 PM, so I wouldn't be able to make it before they closed. But they did set me up with an appointment for the following day, without a problem.
I used to admire and even recommend Armory Dog & Cat Hospital, but after this experience I will no longer do so. This place can be best described as completely dysfunctional! There is no organization whatsoever and they are bereft of any type of compassion. My dog can't walk on all four legs so she hobbles on three; she is clearly in pain and the staff in this place don't seem to care, they'll get to you when they get to you and if it means you have to wait two, three, or four hours then hey...too bad!
I don't recommend this place at all, which goes without saying. The staff here obviously don't care about their patients or their patients owners and it clearly shows in their actions. So unless you don't mind waiting hours on end to see a vet then this place is for you. But if you're like me and want a staff that gives a damn and that doesn't keep you waiting for hours while prolonging the suffering of your pet then I recommend you go some place else. I did, and my Yorkie and I are the better for it, especially my Yorkie!

P.S. I went to my appointment at Riverdale Veterinary Group on December 23, 2012 at 11:30 A.M. and I left at 11:59 A.M.! My appointment lasted exactly 29 minutes! Not hours, minutes! On top of that I was given anti-inflammatory pills for my dog's injured leg. Thankfully Riverdale Veterinary Group was compassionate enough to provide this to their new patient. All this and on a Sunday too! Lets see Armory Dog and Cat Hospital top that! That's a sucker bet because they can't! I didn't put up with this and neither should you!

We took our 2 month old Puggle for his for his first vet visit since we purchased him a week ago. Loved it! Every single staff members we interacted with was polite and professional. Dr. Metheny was AWESOME. The vet tech that assisted her was a sweetheart. They answered all of our questions thoroughly. Dr. Matheny even let my aspiring vet daughter to "assist" her which thrilled my daughter beyond belief. We were in and out in just over an hour. The visit and medication totaled $56! We brought $300 in cash expecting a huge bill (which was our experience at another vet). This is our official doctor from this point forward. Also, some reviews mentioned a smelly waiting area..it's a vet not a restaurant! If we had to wait 2 hours, we'd do it without question. That's how much I like this place.

I went there with my mom to pay the balance to have my 14 year old dog's ashes returned to me (he had been put to sleep there 2 days prior). It took them well more than an hour to call me just to process my credit card and sign some papers, even though they knew why we were there. Just knowing that the body of our beloved baby boy was still back there somewhere was absolutely heart wrenching for us. We were both emotionally distraught. After about an hour and a half to two hour wait we're finally called in to process the payment. About 2 weeks later I returned to collect my baby boy's ashes. I went by myself, my mother just couldn't bear to accompany me. Anyway, I let the receptionist know why I'm there. She seemed very compassionate and offered her condolences and asked for my name. I told her then she went back to look for his remains. I'm guessing she couldn't find anything under my name (even though I paid with my credit card, and I was listed as the dog's actual owner) so after a while, asked me what my dog's name was. I told her and that's when she found the paper bag with his name on it. Inside was an urn with my baby boy's ashes. I cannot explain the emptiness and pain I felt when I saw it. So I proceeded to go around back to pick it up and to sign some paperwork. That's where this one bitchy woman, a vet tech or something, started snapping and boisterously complaining that my dog's info was under another person's name - my aunt, since she had originally taken my dog to be put to sleep because neither my mom or myself could do it, it was just too excruciatingly painful. Anyway, this lady clearly knows that I'm there to pick up the remains of my 14 year old loyal companion who left me just 2 weeks prior, yet still feels the need to snap and be rude just because I had given my name (since that was what I was asked by the receptionist) instead of my aunt's name. That is the absolute epitome of insensitivity and unprofessionalism. Part of me wanted to curse her out and punch her in the face. But I was emotionally broken when I saw the little paper bag containing the remains of my sweet little angel. I couldn't deal with that rude and insensitive ghetto broad. I just wanted to get the hell out of there. I signed what I needed to sign and I just bolted out of there. Looking back at it, I received much more compassion and empathy from the other animal lovers that were there with their pets that day than from the staff of this clinic (minus the receptionist). Needless to say I would NEVER bring another pet to that place again...EVER! From the appearance of the clinic, to the overall unprofessionalism and ghetto behavior of a lot of the staff, it's just not a place you want to take your beloved pet to.

The doctors are great but a staff member at the front desk are not at all in the least bit professional. Most of the staff is loud, rude and they have no compassion or respect for the animals and their owners who walk in. I took my pet there to put him down because he was dying. They made me wait over an hour and half; needless to say my pet died in my arms while we waited. One loud mouth, red headed, ghetto receptionist
told me I had to pay 75 dollars if I wanted to skip the line to see the doctor. And even after my pet died when I rushed him in she again emphasized that if the doctor took a look at him, it would cost $75.00. It took every muscle within my body and soul not to jump over the desk and punch her lights out. While I cried over my pet, the receptionist from hell was laughing and being loud. The Dr. B and Dr. G should really think about reorganizing their staff; maybe putting the redhead
bimbo at the back cleaning cages, she has no business dealing with people at the front desk. They should have someone there who represents the professionalism of the doctors and who can give 100% of their compassion to the patience(animals) and their owners who are there.
Seriously, my pet who was a member of my family for 7 years has died and I hope he passed away knowing that I did everything I could so he wouldn't suffer.

I brought 2 of my cats there. Dr Burchman is incredible. He saved my cats life when she was going into labor and it was his first time with a cat in labor and I guess this is the word..> resuscitated a few of the kittens. I still owe money there cus i didn't have all the money at the time. The receptionists are rude and dumb broads sorry to say and sit there gossiping each of the maybe 10 times ive been there. If you have an emergency just go there. just expect to pay! always have money handy when you have pets cus you never know what could happen. they're our children :) another time i went there my kitty opened up her cut from the aspca van that fixes the cats. there was a woman there at the time cus dr. b was in surgery and she was a great help. the docs know what they're doing.

The @#$%^^ worst vet to see if you want your dog, cat or any pet to live!!! The place is small the associates are rude and none professional. I took my sick dog in and got charged a $75 dollar emergency visit which was not a problem and then given an estimate for 4 days of hospitalization along with some test and blood work and they snuck in a double fee for the emergency room visit. Not only did they over charge me, my dog passed away the same day I went home and they did not even call me the same day. I went the next morning to see the dog and thats when they told me she died the day before. What the f&@#$ is there problem there? My daughter and wife were crying for days. We all were under the impression the our dog was still alive. What a smack in the face! They gave us a run around about refunding the days I pre paid for. The dog did not even last 24 hours. Dont trust them with your pet!! All they care about is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!@ Ass#@!%!!!!

I went to this place because my cat had trouble breathing and since it was close to were i live i went there. First they were slow and taking their time doing things while my cat was trying to get air, i try to tell them that it was an emergence. This so called lady said that the price was $75.00, so i was like okay just take care of my cat. The lady takes her time, then calls me, i thought it was to see my cat. NO it was for me to pay first before seeing my cat. while my cat is having an asthma attack. I have been to many hospital for my cats asthma before, but never was told wait or to pay before seeing my cat. I have never seen such behavior in any animal hospital.

Yes, the place is very small but I have two poodles and a cat and I have been taken them here for a long time and the reason being is that they know what they are doing and are very knowledgeable about the animals. If you are a walk-in the wait time is extremely long because appointments are taken first. They are excellent groomers and I wouldn't take my animals to any other groomer because I like the service here. i suggest for those who don't like the wait to find another place and the prices are excellent especially if you have a lot of animals. The doctors are very professional and handle each animal differently according to their circumstance. I would definitely recommend this place and I will keep going here unless I move out of the neighborhood.

I used to take my dog to this clinic even though I hated the3-4 hr wait (with or without appointment). The prices were reasonable and the main doctor (Dr. Burchman) was very knowledgeable. I dreaded taking my pets for a visit but I was low on cash for awhile and this place was ok. I changed my mind after what happened one day at the vet's waiting area. I had just finished with my pet inside and when I went to exit into the waiting area, 2 pit bulls jumped to attack my dog. They were held back by their owners but they were really strong almost pulling them down. Everyone jumped and started to run out of the waiting area. I was livid. Had something happened to my pet or myself the good old doc would've been up to his eyebrows in a lawsuit. I couldn't believe that the clinic would condone vicious animals in the waiting area where there were so many other small animals and children. Nothing was done about the almost attack and I never returned there again. I was also becoming disgusted with the waiting times with or without an appointment and the ultra small waiting area. Sometimes there was no place to sit comfortably with your pet. Unsanitary and smelly too. Hope this helps.

I use to take my pet to this clinic. I referred people as well. The clinic is to small and they get pack really quick. The doctors are slow paced. The enviroment is ok. They also have grooming on site.

I would recommend to those who do not have much to do. If you have a scheduled appt. you are not seen at that time. I understand that with the expection of an emergency which is understandable.

This hospital is too small. The doctors are ok. The enviroment was not what I expected. What is not meant for me may definetly be meant for someone else.

Dr. Burchman is really great. He's knowledgeable, explains things clearly, and genuinely cares for the animals. The clinic itself is a little crazy- it's always overcrowded with a tiny waiting area and the staff are constantly too busy. However, Dr. Burchman makes it worthwhile- I only wish he practiced in Brooklyn so he'd be closer to us. Also the prices are the lowest I've seen in NY.

Pros: A Vet you can trust and affordable prices

Cons: the waiting room/ area/ support staff
