I just went there, midsummer 2008, to find the restaurant closed and padlocked. No furniture inside. Menu still posted outside, but no other notices ie "We've moved". Very sad. I loved this place for breakfast and lunch. Whenever I came into Manhattan for business or pleasure (fairly frequently) I would get there via a short walk from Penn station. I can't seem to find any other french breakfast restaurant like this in the same area ... have been searching on Citysearch. May have to try Zagat's. Loved the coffee, pastries, brought business associates, family here over the years. Moonstruck Diner across the street is so-so, typical diner fare, but pretty good coffee. Good substitute until I find something else. Its the little places like Chez Laurence that make NY what it is. Rising prices for rent, utilities are driving the little guys out. All we'll have left is Star*ucks. if you get my drift.

Pros: Great midtown location, close to Penn station

Cons: Closed since April 2008

i haven't been at night but every time i've been for brunch or lunch, i am thoroughly satisfied. they have a nice wine selection by the glass and i've always found the staff very friendly and attentive. it's always a nice meal at a reasonable price. the smoked turkey with brie is one of the best sandwiches on their menu - simple combo of ingredients and the bread is toasted to perfection. there's a lot to choose from at brunch, without getting too pricey. i'm really glad it's in my neighborhood - and it's now open on the weekend!

Pros: large menu but it's not a diner
