Prospect Heights was located in Crown Heights, just across the street from the Brooklyn Museum and down the road from Clara Barton High School. Unfortunately, the school has had a long history filled with violence and poor academic standings.

Even when my older sister and brothers attended the high school back in the 1980s the school ALWAYS had incidences of fights and knifings (school gun violence in the 80s was a rare occurrence back then). Thankfully they transferred to better schools but the violence continued to the 90's escalated by overcrowding of the classrooms and the school (an unfortunate growing NY trend), leading to poor grades for students and an environment doomed for disaster.

In 2005, the NY State Board of Education announced plans to shut the school down and in June of 2006 the school had its final graduating class ever.

Today, though the school Prospect Heights & their name is officially shut down, the building houses 5 individual high schools within the former high school's building, and it is attended by about 1,100 students.
