go see Jake Dingler at space salon in soho. He did my color & cut making my hair look look super glossy & like a sex kitten with a fab sorta charlies angel cut. I wasn't sure what I wanted but he knew exactly what would work for me, all the while making me comfortable and laughing.

After being recommended to Space,I was pleasantly surprised to find this modern, bustling, well designed big salon right in soho. With plenty of knowlegable stylists & assistants to meet one's needs, I was introduced to a stylist who new exactly what my color needed to be & another who knew what cut works best with my face & spersonal style. A pleasant shampoo, deep conditioning treatment, gloss & awesome blowdry ensured that I looked so great I barely recognized my image in the mirror. Very happy with the results. It has taken me a while to find a salon perfect for me & now I have. I was able to order delivery to eat during my process as well. No attitudes found here, which is surprising for a salon that all the top beauty editors come to.

PROS: nice staff, late hours, near ce & e train at spring & 6th ave

i'd recommend norman james to anyone. he's the best hairstylist i've ever had, not to mention the most charming. if this is his salon (writing from the netherlands) then it must be top rate. he has loads of experience. a true artiste. i was pleased to see that he'd started his own place. i'm sure it's a grand success.

In 1989 I saw a girl with extraordinarily beautiful hair. I asked her who cut it, and she said Norman James at ORIBAY which was
a block away. The minute she left, I called to book an appointment with Norman and have been going faithfully ever since.

Norman James is a MASTER with scissors, he's unpretentious, he's a true artist, he's cutting edge (no pun intended) and I think the best I've ever had the privilege of being a client for! I've been to Sassoon's salon, Gene Shacove did my hair way back when,
but Norman, he is REALLY SPECIAL and well worth whatever he charges.

There has never been a time after Norman cut my hair when EVERYONE who saw me commented on the GREAT HAIRCUT and asked me who did it.

Unfortunately, I moved to California, so now have to get on an airplane to get a great haircut, and IT'S WORTH IT.

This place has all the elements of a top-notch salon: inexpensive prices, a friendly and highly experienced staff, a great location (in a quiet Manhattan nieghborhood), and more. No matter what your hair type is, the stylists here will tell you what the best way to treat or style it is. I recommend this salon to all.
