If you need to get your animal fixed, whether feral or house pet, Dr. Perkins delivers the best surgery/surgical treatment that can be gotten outside of a professional operating theater in an Emergency Hospital.
I began bringing my 18 year old cat to her (in Bayshore) when she was still doing examinations, and she blew me away. She carefully examined my cat with her hands, and said, "I know what this is, no problem." She got me the prescription, and did not even charge me for the examination. My cat lived to 20 years old, way longer than expected. :) HOWEVER:
A few years ago Dr. Perkins retired, leaving the office to newer vets. Unfortunately they have neither the experience nor the skills to treat animals the way Perkins could. Dr. Perkins remains in surgery, and is wholly amazing to this day, but she has retired from "practice" at her office. It's too bad, too - because the new vets all operate on lab tests and chemical diagnostics, and have no hands-on training in the old-school methods that Perkins knows. The results can be devastating: their prices fro treatment are unreachable for most families.
So do yourself a favor - if your pets needs spaying or neutering, this is the place to go, Perkins will take care of your beloved pet. But for anything else? East Islip is the place to go.
Sorry, Jackie, I love your work, but the kids just don't have the spark.

I have had the most unsatisfactory experience with the Bayshore office. My dog has been seen in the Patchogue office; however, due to current conditions, that office is now closed. I had the unfortunate luck of having to deal with the office staff there in reference to obtaining a refill for my dog. After a day, they called to say that she has to be seen for more blood work and a visit in order to fill the script. All told, this will cost me over $300.00. When I asked for another option because I cannot afford this right now, the receptionist was not helpful and rude. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was given "Angela" who gave new meaning to the word rude. She referred to the people who go there as "low income" and stated that she was not operating a "charity" office. This place is full of insensitive people who are overcharging people in a desperate situation. It is deceitful to think you are actually obtaining affordable care here because they get you by these deceptive practices. The only thing affordable is the office visit but that's never all you pay off. I am sorry to hear that my dog's doctor, Dr. Sarter is no longer there because she was a compassionate person. Stay away from this place or be prepared to get taken for a lot of money and deal with insensitive and rude people.

I have reviewed this place on every website I can find. This place is an enormous ripoff. They entice people by having such an affordable rate for an office visit and I assume if you are just getting a check up, it's fine. But the instant you say something is wrong with your dog, they go and find 10 other things to charge you for. I took one of my dogs there because I suspected an ear infection. They diagnosed him with an ear infection and then told me all these other things I needed to do. I asked for an estimate and they printed up a $650 list of things I should do... all for his ear! I had taken him to a vet in Hauppauge before and they gave me $30 antibiotic fluid to rinse in his ears, and it was fine. Sure enough, that's all I needed after visiting a real vet afterwards.
I won't even go into my other dog that I took there for allergies and spent $350 with absolutely no result.
Not to mention the vets act like there's no place that rather NOT be and the front office staff is terrible.
If I had more money I would tell everyone to go to a place like East Islip Animal Hospital and I will pay the difference in office visit prices... that's how much I DON'T recommend this vet.

Kind, helpful, empathic and affordable. No one can love our pet friends like we do, but they've always respected and supported my decisions.
Bless them all, particularly the "Angel'a, that I call my friend.

I've had the displeasure of dealing with Island Rescue for many years. I go to them when I'm in a bind and can't see my regular vet when he is either on vacation or the wait list is too long.

Be prepared to wait anywhere from 15-20 min

Ive had dogs my whole life and been to multiple vets, but this place has got to be the worst place. They have cheap services but tack on whatever they can to raise the cost. I've been there twice and both times has been terrible. Do

Rude Staff, The doctors must have practiced in a foreign country with no standards. My cat left with an infection that almost killed her, they wouldn't pay for the damages or medications required to fix their mistake. I found out from other vets that they use the same bloody, dirty, crusty, tools on 10-15 animals before getting a new pack. At any vet each animal gets its own pack of tools. This place tries to cut costs by infecting and killing animals. It should be shut down. Check Better Business Bureau they HAVE AN F RANKING!!

I've been taking my cat to Island Rescue for five years with no complaints whatsoever. I have never found the staff to be rude, and the doctor speaks in a monotone because he has a speech impairment. So far none of our visits have cost

This place should be looked into for fraud. We have taken our dog twice to try and figure out what his allergies are. I understand that it's not an exact science unless you take him to a dermatologist or get a blood sample. However,

Dr Fong is very good and gives great care for my dogs. However, some of the office staff is very rude. The time to wait, even with an appointment is an hour or more. The check out time is even worse. My dogs were barking for the 3rd time in 45 minutes and one office staff ran over an told me to put the dogs in the car (on a 80 degree day) or wait outside, because she couldn't hear on the phone. Why not put me in a room or offer assistance? Several of the staff members are very thoughtful and friendly. They know that dogs bark, can be aggressive and are in the VET. This person had no problem humiliating me in front of many people and another employee. I will never go back. Any savings is not worth being treated like that. When I went back in to told the receptionist (who was outstandingly nice) to cancel my appointment and explained how this other employee made me feel, she could only apologize.
The prices are not exactly cheap, still not cheap enough to be mistreated.

I'm not sure why everyone is saying that Island Rescue is affordable. To me, they are a total ripoff. Brought in my 7 yo dog for her annual shots and they gave her the 1 yr rabies meanwhile last year when I went there, they told me she can have the 3 yr shot the following year. Next, advised them that she had an ear infection, dr told me they were going to give her some medication, I had thought that the medication was to cure her infection but instead after the assistant brought out the meds, she told me one of the meds were for dry skin and the other was some other crap that was not meant for the infection. Both totaled to $50. My total bill for an annual check-up and a minor ear infection totalled to $250. They do not advise you nor asked the pet owners if they are receptive to the costs and procedures but instead go ahead with the procedures first and then bill the customers. This is a horrible practice. Perhaps what people are referring to when they say this place is inexpensive are the surgeries but definitely the annual check-up is not worth it. I will never come back to this place ever again, better off taking your pet to Petco and having them administer the vaccinations for $50 (no in office fee either). STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE WHO CLAIMS TO LOVE ANIMALS BUT INSTEAD MILK THE VULNERABLE PET OWNERS.

Called the Island Rescue in Patchogue on a Sat. at about 6:20pm...they are open until 7pm. I just wanted to get a "guess-estimate" on how much they might charge for a certain proceedure. They did not even want to speak to me. The vet kept saying "bring the dog to an emergency vet." She was very rude....and the ironic thing is that it was not a service that warranted "emergency" treatment...it was only a superficial laceration. I would never go there....

My pet cat had an infected anal gland, and since we were basically financially raped from the previous place that we took her to, we decided to heed our cousins' advice and take her to Island Rescue. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a terrible odor; the smell was nauseating and the waiting area looked dirty and unkempt. The wait was not that long, however the staff looked completely rushed.....it was about two hours before closing so I don't know why we were being rushed out.

In the office (also dirty), the doctor was impersonal and very forceful with my cat. The doctor literally did not try to calm the animal or make her feel at ease. She took the animal, to the next room (within ear-shot) and we could hear her cries for over fifteen minutes! That was true of the other two pets that were at this place at the same time. When we got her home, her bottom looked terrible. Five months ago she had the same procedure at a different place and the procedure came out perfect.

She also had blood work done, basically scaring us to death-mentioning cancer and leukemia only to wait until later on in the previous night to call us and tell us that she was perfectly fine. She was also vague when it came to giving her medicine, and failed to give us a protective cone for her.

Listen, I understand times are tough, but you do sacrifice a lot when it comes to going to this place. True, you do run the risk of getting ripped off, but the comfort of your pet is truly important; make sure that your vet or vet assistant treats your pet like a member of the family. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

DO NOT GO HERE - IT IS DIRTY, SMELLY, YOU WAIT FOREVER, AND EVEN THOUGH THE PRICES ARE CHEAP, THEY FAILED TO EVEN RECTIFY MY 2 DOGS EAR INFECTIONS. SO AFTER 150$ I STILL HAD TO GO TO ANOTHER VET WHO GAVE THEM ANTIBIOTICS AND DIFFERENT MEDS - ISLAND RESCUE OPENED ONE DOOR AND THE FLOOR HAD BLOOD ALL OVER IT! WOULD NEVER GO BACK THERE! STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS - DO NOT BE FOOLED BY LOW PRICES, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR AND THEY FAILDED TO EVEN ADDRESS A SIMPLE ISSUE LIKE AN EAR INFECTION ON MY 2 SMALL DOGS! 1/2 STAR, OR NO STARS!!

I have two runts one my cousin was told they would have to put down if he went to the shelter because he has so many health problems so I saved him. I used them before for a healthy cat that my ex kept but when it came time to bring my kitten with health problems that was another story. They explained everything to me and I was always well aware of what was going on they really cared for him and since he was near death went i got there the emergency service was great, I was at the emergency vet where i dropped 600 the night before but he only got worse. I havent had a problem and my cats based of their information they gave me are very happy playful and well alive. I have not one complaint.

I've had a good and bad experience:

Good: Vets are good and caring; reasonable rates

Bad: Front office staff is incompetent and needs additional training; better office management is required and not very customer friendly. If I didn't like the Vets, I would never have returned....I try to overlook the bad for my pet's sake. I had an appointment then rescheduled it and was told to come in the following day. When I arrived, I was told that I didn't have an appointment, wherein I explained what had occurred, plus I traveled over 45 min. to keep the appointment. They didn't care and said I would not be seen. As it turns out, the clerical staff who rescheduled my appointment did delete my old appontment, but forgot to enter the new appointment in the computer. I was turned away through no fault of my own. I understand errors can be made, but the manager didn't care and blantly told me that I would not be seen. I've worked in healthcare for over twenty years and if one of my managers treated a patient/customer the way I was treated (no empathy) she would not be a manager for long. The manager is suppose to set the example for the staff and this was a very poor example of good customer service and good leadership skills. The front line is the first impression and they represent the service. Again, my experience with the Vets have been positive.

We rescued 4 feral kittens and were in need of spaying/neutering + shots for all 4. Everyone was caring & wonderful, took the time to explain everything to us. The prices were great too which helps when you have multiple pet. PS we kept all 4 kittens and love them!

My mom and I went to the Patchogue office with our cat and she was given some asthma meds and a steroid shot. The doctor explained everything clearly and the lady behind the desk was wonderful. We called the dotor to make an appt. for x-rays two days later and he said to go the the Bayshore office at four o'clock. At 3:57 on the day in question, we called the office to ask for directions because we were about three minutes away, but lost. We were told they could not give us directions because they were closing and no one had any record of our appt. They kept us on hold until about five after four. Then we were told they found out appt. but it was too late as it was after four o'clock. We were referred to the emergency hospital in W. Islip where my cat was made comfortable by a great staff and passed away . The thing that bothers me is that the woman told my mother on the phone that if we showed up, they would not let us in and that if our cat was so sick, we should have not been five minutes late. Needless to say, we'll be sticking with professionals from now on.

I usually dont complain any further than what I have already said at the establishment itself but this time I feel compelled. I brought my bichon to island rescue because as we all know times are tough and money is an issue. the people at the front desk were very nice and I am sure this is a great place for shots, spay, neutuer, and things of that nature but as far as diagnosing your animal and being helpful and informative I was completely disatisfied I will be fair and say it might have just been the one doctor that I saw but the man almost klled my dog. He was clueless to the point I had to ask if he was really a liscensed vet!!!!! He had no clue how to read an x-ray he had the personality of astro turf and I informed him more of my dogs situation than he knew even after examining her. Needless to say he deduced that she had a bladder infection (which would mean blod in the urine) my dog was bleeding profusely out of her v-gina. Due to the fact that I had a friend of mine with me who is a vet assistant we asked what about this and what about that the so called vets answer was duhh maybe I really dont know. so after spending $255.00 I left there being told wait 2 days for blod work and in the mean time we will treat her for a bladder infection . I knew this was the wrong diagnosis. The next morning my dog was near death. Brought her to another vet had I not brought her she would have died within hours she was diagnosd with immune mediated thrombocytopenia. She is now in critical condition at a wonderful vet who when I brought the x-rays from island rescue and asked him what is that his answer was not I DONT KNOW his answer was they are tumors. Waiting 2 days for blodwork they had back in their office THE NEXT MORNING !!!!! would have klled my dog. This so called vet needs to get off the doggie qualudes and get back to school !!!!!!!!! He should be ashamed of himself and stick to giving shots at petco! island rescue set you standards higher please!!!

For feral cats and for your own home cat or dog, you can't go wrong with their prices...They are the lowest on Long Island. Their staff is very pleasant, helpful and they do a big service to help spay/neuter the feral cats of Long Island at the lowest cost.

Island Rescue is more than a vets office. They have a low cost spay neuter program. Many people line up daily to bring in feral cats for this service.

They also do regular vet work to at slightly reduced cost. There are several vets working there and it can be hard to see the same vet every time.Very busy office...That is why I am hesitant to recommend them if your pet has a serious or chronic health condition. I was referred out when my cats condition got a little complicated.

The staff and doctors are some of the most caring individuals you will ever come across.

Last year I had to put my beloved cat of 18 years to sleep. I called a friend and she recommended Island Rescue. The whole time I dealt with this company I never came across anyone that did not care about me or the situation at hand. Everyone was very friendly and sympathetic. On the day of my appointment, I was greeted by a friendly staff and put at ease. During the procedure I was able to stay with my cat and after the vet was done she allowed me to stay with him for as long as I needed. No one rushed me out or made me feel bad for what had to be done. While waiting for the vet, I listened to the staff talk to other people about their pets and each person was caring and informative with each individual. I would recommend this clinic to others.

Island Rescue is the best place in town to take your feral cats. Their prices are low and the care is good. I do a lot of trapping of feral/stray cats in my neighborhood and without Island Rescue, I couldn't have done as many cats as I have. The doctors are excellent.

I brought my 4month old pit there pretty much healthy, when i left to work in the morning she was running around playing with my other dog and son, so we brought both my dogs there for check up and shots, My other puppy is 2yrs and already has most of his shots and has been very healthy since we got him at 2months old..Well bella came home from the vet thay say she has "Giardia" so we started giving her the medicain right away...about 3 hours later she started getting really sick, 2 dasy after which is today, she was practically on her death bed, we took her to Fort Hill Animal hospital in huntington, thay said they think they can save her, their prices are cheap and their customer services is great, they gave us alot of hope..We are still in the waiting period..she is still hospitalized..My point is my dog was healthy before going to Island Rescue..If you want an affordable vet got to Fort Hill 631-427-1655..

I needed to have a stray kitten spayed...didn't want to pay hi-prices. My vet wanted $250.00....they charged $58.00. The only difference is you don't call for an appointment, you have to be there at 9 am and wait on line for a little while. The medical care was just fine, the kitten was great when we took her home. I have decided to keep her instead of returning her to the outside and will keep using Island Rescue for her medical care.

Pros: much cheaper than most vets.

Cons: Waiting on line and they don't keep overnight....you have to pick your pet up by 6:00 pm

They are real animal lovers that went the extra mile in an emergency both over the phone and when we arrived.

Injury was taken care of fast and Max had licks for everyone.
