So im supprised to hear these awful reviews. I recently moved into the area for work, and took my new suits and dress shirts over to this small scale shop. He was recommended to me at John Varvatos, where I bout 2 of my suits as well as an overcoat. Apparently he does the alterations for their soho location. Anyway he made 3 off-the-rack (armani, zegna, hugo boss) suits look like they were made for me. Same thing on my shirts. The older guy seems to be the head honcho... SEE HIM!!!! he is a little impatient, but the place was packed. After seeing the suits, I brought in some clothes i inherited from my father who was a larger man than I (a couple of vintage suits, and a 1975 burberry trench coat) and he made them fit great! He is somewhat on the pricey side, but Im telling you that the work is worth it.. you can tell this guy has experience with good clothes... take your wranglers to china town, but take your good stuff to this guy.

Pros: great work, and more than decent turn around

Cons: none yet... i have found a new tailor!

Do not take even your smallest tailoring jobs here. 1) Ramon Sr. ruined a brand new dress from Saks. After he ruined it, his proposed solution for cutting out too much fabric from one area was to cut off fabric from the bottom of the dress to fill in the area he messed up. I guess it didn't matter that he messed it up because it wasn't even ready in time for the event for which the dress was purchased though Ramon Sr. had specifically promised it would be. They still charged me. 2) I asked them to add a simple strap to a winter coat so I could hang it up on a hook - they added a strap from a very flimsy material, not even positioned correctly. When I took it back, Ramon Jr. expressed surprise that it was done in such manner and said they typically only used leather straps for heavier coats. Redid the job but still charged me. 3) I brought in a Piazza Sempione dress to fix because the sitching on the straps was coming undone-just required a simple straight stitch across to fix. They did a completely sloppy job with threads hanging out everywhere on one of the straps, and a completely different stitch on the other strap, which I will admit looked fine. I had to take the dress back two more times to get them to fix the one strap to make it look somewhat neat and the same as the other strap. By the end of it, there were so many stitch holes in the one strap, it was absurd. Still got charged. 4) Last straw - took in pants to get hemmed and also asked them to fix some holes in the front pockets of the pants. They ended up closing the front pockets entirely, obviously didn't even bother fixing the holes I had asked them to repair.

This tailor shop may have been something great back in the day, but not worth the risk nowadays for even basic stuff. I can't even recommend their dry cleaning. They aren't good at cleaning stains, even if you point them out. I've had items recleaned at other places that do get the stains out. Sloppy shop all around.

Pros: location, convenience

Cons: everything else

Horrible and incompetant service. Do not believe any of the press on the walls, other than it translating to rip-off.

Brought in a dress for tailoring and cleaning. Result 5 days later: Dress was only partially tailored, dry cleaning came back wrinkled and much more expensive than any neighborhood or upper east side tailor. Take your clothing and cleaning elsewhere... a definite skip and waste, unless you want to pay for your clothing to be retailored and recleaned.

Slow turn around time and pants weren't ready when they said they would be. Quality of stitching is excellent, measurement were off.

They spend their time yessing you to death, rushing you, and then do a lousy job and you wonder why you didn't question them more at the beginning. Absolutely sloppy in taking measurements and inconsistant. I had 2 identical shirts sleeves shoretnened and one was 1 inch shorter than the other. I had to throw it away. I brought them a closet full of suits to tailor and they destroyed some by overcutting the fabric. Cost me thousands. Although I live in SoHo I use Ignacio's on 60th St now, recommended by friends working in fashion as beng top notch. Avoid Ramon's like the plague. A very expensive lesson.

I gave my jeans to alteration and spoke personally with Ramon to make sure he understood what I wanted. He quickly approved but didn't seem very attentive. When I came to pick up my jeans I discovered my request was totally ignored and above all the stitching work was crappie. They ruined a perfect very expensive Barneys pair of jeans. STAY AWAY AT ANY COST, NOT RECOMMENDED!

The short version is that I spent 55 bucks getting some pants relined, and he did such a crappy job that they ripped right away. I took them back to have it fixed, and they said they'd fix it, no problem. I come back a week later to pick them up, and they were NOT fixed. On top of that, they said that the lining in the pants was the original lining, i.e. they abdicated responsibility, although those were the pants Ramon had just (poorly) relined. To top it off, I was expecting to come back and pick-up fixed pants and was planning to wear them right away. I asked why they hadn't let me know that they'd planned not to fix them, and they sort of shrugged like, too bad for you. I realize they didn't have my phone number, but with my full name and address, it shouldn't be THAT hard to use a phone book - that is, if you actually care about keeping customers... which they don't, obviously. And they lost me, so I suppose it worked out for everybody...

He didn't do my alteration correctly & then forgot to fix it, on top of which I am out $55.00. I could not be more dissatisfied with my experience with Ramon and will not be using him again.

I recently went to Ramon's to have a silk dress taken in two sizes, and I am very pleased with the results. Ramon did such a beautiful job that I would highly recommend him. His prices are very reasonable for NYC and are well worth the results. He is a genius. I would also like to add that my dress was ready quickly.

I brought a jacket in to remove the shoulder pads and take in the shoulders. When I picked the jacket up, the shoulder pads were still in place, only one shoulder was taken in, and the lining in the other arm was completely sewn up! I couldn't even put the jacket on and had to spend big bucks elsewhere in order have it fixed. I also had a skirt altered at the same time, which wasn't done properly.

I took my coat and jeans to have tailored here. The coat was shortened, and it was a nice job. Cost about $40. Don't know if that's alot. Then I had my jeans hemmed, with the original hem. Cost $25 which seems to be alot. I was pleased with the job, until I noticed that one leg is a bit longer than the other and drags on the floor when I walk. So I am not pleased anymore and don't know if they will redo it.

ramon agreed to do a rush job for me on a bridesmaid dress. he complained throughout, not wanting to shorten the dress, take it in, or generally do any tailoring to it. Ultimately, he did some work on the dress but not nearly what i had asked for - i was left with the dress the day before over $80 for it!

They are disorganized, there's no computer system and so they frequently "misplace" orders, and the job they do is mediocre at best. But it was so convenient, I did $150/week of business in there . . . until they ripped a silk/cashmere sweater across the entire back. It looked like they took a box cutter to it. I brought it back, in the plastic, and they still claimed they didn't do it. When I mentioned how much business I did, and asked if they would just forgive my next bill, they refused and didn't care that they lost a customer. Bad choice. Bad business. Bad cleaners.
