Cute atmosphere and exceptional food. We had the caesar , edamame, shrimp, steak, salmon, chicken. The dishes were well assembled with great attention to how the flavors on the plate work together. Delicious! The wait staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. The cocktails are out of this world in my opinion, if you're into that sort of thing Nice wine list, too. I would definitely recommend this place, and will certainly go back.

really liked this place. Great food, not all of it is for me but none of it was actually bad. Some dishes SHINE. The chicken was to die for. I would send people there for the chicken. Wine was perfect, it's not too pricey. what is there not to love?? I recommend to anyone.

My friend and I stopped in at Wined Up before going to a show. We were immediately seated and had excellent service. The wine by the glass selection is extensive and includes many highly-rated wines. We had a cheese plate which was delightful (as well as some other tapas) and the bartender was sure to keep the bread coming. As far as wine bars go this was great - good selection, reasonably priced, nice service, relaxed atmosphere, and tasteful appearance.

I really liked this place. It has a nice atmosphere and food was just great. I wish there would be more vegetarian entrees on the menu but still vegetable lasagna was pretty much satisfying. I also recommend string beans they?re deep fried but tasty. On the sweet side chocolate bread pudding with ice cream on the top is to die for. We also had chance to take a peek upstairs wine bar. It seemed like pretty cool place. They said we could also use dinner menu upstairs. I will definitely go back.

I have to say that I think this place is on a major comeback. This is a local hangout for me, and after a few visits early last year where it seemed the staff didn't know what they were doing with food and wine pairings, I gave it a shot again last week and things were WAY better. Staff were friendly and attentive, bartender before we were seated made an excellent recommendation on a light red that I had never tried before, and the server for our table suggested a dry white wine that matched both our appetizers and entrees perfectly. According to the hostess, there is a new GM who has apparently made some changes, and they are definitely good ones from what I could tell. Staff seems much better trained and more friendly than in the past, even though it was pretty busy the night I was there. Highly recommend this place for both food and wine. Shrimp dumplings are perfect, and their spicy edamame is great. One comment is that the menu is a bit all over the place, and I get the sense that the chef is a little overeager in trying to make everything so fancy and please every possible palate-- wish they would consider going more greenmarket/simple given their location just north of the Union Square Greenmarket. But honestly there was nothing to complain about this time. Definitely worth a visit, and I'm glad I can consider them another high quality local place again.

Pros: smart attentive staff, good ambience, great wine selection

Cons: menu could be simpler, but food is overall excellent

.

Good people, nice atmosphere, fun, good food, great service. Nothing fancy, just everything you want whether you're there for drinks to wind down or for dinner. I would be a regular if I lived closer.

Very romantic restaurant especially later at night ...The wait staff is unfailingly friendly and polite even in the face of rude customers. The food is excellent and they have a nice collection of wines!!! My wife and I have been here for brunch, lunch and dinner and have always been happy with service, atmosphere and food.

I recently came here for brunch this past weekend. I was very impressed with how quickly i was seated. Especially on a saturday at 1pm. From the moment i sat down the staff was very attentive to our table. The freshly baked goods were amazing along with the bloody mary's. I had the salmon egg's benedict. The salmon was very fresh along with the perfect amount of Hollandaise Sauce. There were so many great things on the menu. Next time i think i may try Aged Cheddar Grits

I came here w/a group of girls for brunch and have to say that the wait for food and drinks was the longest I have yet to encounter. Service was terrible and management did nothing to make up for the fact that they messed up almost half the orders! Was a very dissappointing experience for everyone...

Punch's menu feature American plates with common Italian, Asian, and Mexican offerings like risotto, ahi tuna, and quesadilla. The calamari was too salty and the exotic sounding accompaniments of banana chili sauce and wasabi aioli were unfortunately nondescript. The filet mignon, and truffled potato puree were equally disappointing. Where other dishes were lacking, the shrimp dumplings stole the show with a filling of shrimp, chestnuts, and green onions as if prepared in Shanghai with the perfect marriage of flavors -- surprising spiciness, with the simplicity of soy sauce. The place is dimly lit and relaxing. Framed art adorns the walls, and banquettes line one wall. Service was quick but the kitchen was slow.

I was looking forward to going to this restaurant after reading the reviews on Citysearch, but I came away very disappointed. Our waitress was extremely rude and unprofessional, giving us literally two minutes to look over the menu before demanding our orders, and doing the same thing after handing us the dessert menu. A beverage I ordered never arrived, nor did my friend's bread pudding (I finally had to ask another waiter to bring it.) The desserts were tasty, but my salmon was very undercooked. I won't be back.

This is a good place for dates, the environment is very intimate and the lighting is just right. The food is good, although I wouldn't say excellent. Most of the variations they have made to "update" contemporary dishes are a nice change without everything being too exotic that they ruin it. Good wine and beer. Didn't go to the bar but it looked nice enough.

I chose this restaurant, because it's where Sam from Top Chef used to cook, and though he is gone, it's a great place. I had the corriander-crusted salmon, and it was absolutely to die for. Though our waiter wasn't particularly attentive, another waiter helped us with choosing what the order and where to go out afterward. I tried the lychee martini, after hearing how good it is, and I was really disappointed - the other cocktails at my table were good though.

I've eaten here a few times, both before and after Sam the chef left, and the food is good, not great, but good, especially for the price.
The bar is the key though, with good tap beer, free olives and just a simple pleasant atmosphere. It's not hip or cool, but comfortable.

Ive been coming here for about 2 years..it was so damn good. It was the place I would Take out of town guests, family, friends etc. Always a huge winner. The staff informed me The old chef Sam has left to persue a television cooking career. Well when he left he must have taken the entire kitchen staff with him. The best dishes have been removed..WHY? The new menu is a play on something the restaurant is not at all. The menu is almost unfit for this location and to the regulars. Mint- egg sauce with oysters, are you serious.? Im all for exciting new flavors, but thats just disgusting. Sam where ever you are -----HELP!! These guys really need it. Although Im sure your tv show will
be a great. ( He's such a HOTTIE)

When I lived in Chelsea, this was on the regular bi-weekly rotation of restaurants - great food, good service, reasonably priced. The menu has something that everyone can enjoy. This is a versatile pick suitable for every adult audience - dates, out-of-town guests, business colleagues or just your friends. As mentioned in the tag, you must have the shrimp ceviche - a delectable combination of sour, sweet and spicy with a fantastic, crisp texture, which comes with a side of slightly stale, unsalted popcorn. Sometimes I just sit at the bar and have a double order of it.

A friend suggested it as a good place to go on a weeknight for good food and great drinks - and I agree! We went at 9pm and despite a crowded bar, there was no wait. The fist dishes were really good - the Ahi especially. I definitely recommend. Waitress was attentive - food was timely...

On a recent Trip to NYC I ate at Punch on Broadway. This was a great restaurant with moderate prices. We waited for about 30 minutes without reservations but the Bar was great. Appitizers, Crab Cakes, Bread, and Desert were all great. Service was very good too. I highly recommend this restaurant for your next visit to New York.

The food is average, however the service is way below average (our waiter was a stuttering fool when it came to the specials and left our drinks empty for the majority of the night) The atmostphere is cheesy as well as the crowd. Lets just say I won't be returning, and if you haven't been, you're not missing anything

a nice trendy place for a girls night out! food, ambiance and staff was amazing! the waitress was so attentive. she recommended a nice bottle of shiraz to go with our meal. the proportion was perfect. not too big, nor too small. i noticed a handful of cute customers there as well. another reason why i should go back again. hehe.

The food is very good and terribly interesting. The cocktails are simply wonderful and creative. I absolutely adore their drink that has vodka and blood orange.

I went with 6 other people, we had a reservation and were seated right away. I'm not sure I would recommend a party of more than 10 at the most. Generally there were tables of 2-4 filled.

I went to Punch with my wife a few months ago. The food was horribly over-cooked and the waiter was rude. He was muttering expletives under his breath and when we complained about the food he rolled his eyes at us.
The decor was sloppy and the ambience was poor.

I ate dinner at Punch last Sunday night and was so pleased. The place was busy, but the comfortable banquets and friendly service made me not mind waiting a little extra while for my food to come out. And the food was wonderful. Southern/ Asian/ American fusion sounds bizarre, but everything was creative and delicious. I'll definitely come back!

Always have a great meal at Punch. It's really a bargain for what you get. But! I just discovered that they have a lounge above the restaurant. The events/ambience vary from night to night. We went on a thursday and they played some funky/cool music. I liked the neighborhood vibe. They also have some inventive martinis and a happy hour on weekdays. We shall return.

I have been eating here for years and, in fact, I met my current wife while dining there. However, recent changes to the menu implemented by their new chef, Sid Talbot, have me looking for a new spot. Tried the espresso rubbed filet and found the preparation to be an affront against an excellent cut of meat. Overall, food has gone from awesome to average. Might give it another shot but I doubt it.

Heard a thing or two about the new chef...who I had never heard of before...anyway, took the trek down to Punch (has a great late night scene) and walked away wondering why. Why the buzz? Why all the cliches on the menu? Why not spend some real cash and get a real chef? Too bad, something special could have come forth, but alas it wasn't to be.

Had an after-work drink at the bar with a date, loved the place so much we came back for brunch the next morning. The food was incredible. My date had a berry foster version of french toast. Wow. Now I remember why people wake up on the weekends. I had the fried chicken with cheddar grits. I don't know what the secret recipe is but it beats Colonel Sanders. And the grits were flavorful and creamy.
Can't wait to try the dinner menu.
One last thing. Bartenders at this joint make a mean blood mary.

I've lived in the flatiron district. The neighborhood's always had heavy hitters like Grammercy Tavern and Fleur De Sel. I've never even noticed Punch. A friend recommended it recently and I had the best meal I've had in awhile. The food is a spin on classic/southern American. Creative, fresh and fun. I loved the Barbecued Snapper. My boyfriend got the foie gras and an order of the fried oysters. I feel like a fat house. I couldn't stop eating.
I saw the chef visiting some tables on the dining room floor. He's a tall drink of water.
Food, service, ambience, not one complaint to peep about.

I've been going to Punch forever. The food has always been outstanding. Over the last year they've remodeled a bit and brought in new chef, Sam Talbot. I was a little tentative with the changes.
However, the effort they put into improving a good thing shows. The food was excellent. Now, it's even better. Try the calamari, Espresso rubbed Filet Mignon, and the banana-berry foster for dessert. The only thing I didn't like was the bread that came to the table before dinner. I didn't think you could have bread that was too crusty. Well, you can. The wine list is varied enough to satisfy everyone. Service was attentive and friendly.
*Bonus--hit the lounge upstairs for an after-dinner drink. There are sometimes fun events going on up there. I've been on a Tuesday for their early comedy night and on a Wednesday for the live brazilian jazz band.

Despite a relaxing atmosphere and good background music, Punch's upstairs lounge was a disappointment. They were out of 2 of the beers on the menu---on a Friday night, no less. Our waitress seemed confused and inattentive. Tasty appetizers though...French fries, calimari and string beans.

I have been going to Punch about once a month for the past 3 years but I don't think I'll go back again. They hired a new chef 2 weeks ago and while the food was not bad, it certainly was not the Punch menu I know and love. The dishes were average at best. My favorite dishes like Pad Thai and Cashew Crusted Halibut were gone as were the yummy ginger candies they gave when you paid the bill.
I am open to new menu items but why remove the best ones??

This is one of the unassuming restaurants of the area. The chef does an excellent job of mixing flavors and each dish I've had is delicious. The service is excellent, ambiance is quaint and pleasant, and the brunch is a great choice also! Definitely worth the little extra $$.

My boyfriend and I ate here for NYE 2003. It was the only place I could get reservations last minute. It had good ratings, so why not? right?
This place was probably trendy when it was just born, but this place didn't impress me all that much. The clientele seemed to be trying too hard to be cool. The decor is great and the lounge upstairs was playing good music but... the crowd was sparce and the food was just ok.
The mussels were fishy but my boyfriend's sirloin was pretty good.

The mussels were fishy but my boyfriend's sirloin was pretty good.

Pros: good music, good service, location

Go for brunch. Small place with "Pier One" styled decor and attractive (though inattentive) wait staff. Perfect omlettes and amazing "asian-inspired" meals. Can't speak to dinner or late night, but brunch food is perfect. Unfortunately the bloody mary's are weak, and you will only get one, since the waitress won't be around much.

I went to Punch last night with my two girlfriends and we absolutely loved it! We found the cockled fish and salad with melon balls to be particularly tasty. As an apetizer, we ordered the tempura fried ahi rolls. They were served warm and smelled excellent - simply orgasmic. Great experience also due to impressive service and a wonderful ambiance. Perfactadomundo evening!!!

I recently went to Punch with my boyfriend and another couple expecting to enjoy the trendy, fun setting Punch once was. Our reservations were for 9:00 on a saturday night and we were the only table there! Despite the fact that Punch has definitely lost much of it's cool - the menu is diverse, the food tasty, and the service fine.
Overall - a decent dining experience. Hint - order the hummus to start.

Punch has a very creative menu that changes from time to time but the staple that I would recommend would be the calimari appetizer. The wasabi dipping sauce (along with the other two) are very tasty. Calimari never tasted better. The entrees are always interesting and I haven't had a bad one yet. Same with the desserts. I don't know how many dates I've taken to Punch - lol.

I totally love this place. I go as often as I can with friends or dining alone. The service is quick. The host is engaging and the service is good. I've tried several things on the menu and I'm stuck on their version of Pad Thai with chicken. The prices are good. Very affordable for Manhattan. The ambience is wonderful especially in the summer when they open up the facade. I've never gone with a big group so I can't comment. Great place to take a date or bring your date. The bar is good. Good cosmos. Clean restrooms.

Really great menu. Have been here for dinner a few times and each time the food has been delicious. the flavors are so interesting. love all of the appetizers, especially the tomato and white bean soup, it is almost like a stew. all of the lite bites are great - especially ifyou are not too hungry. Service and decor are really nice too

having a small party (2-4) for brunch at punch is recommended. pros: seating is quick, service (for the most part) is efficient, fabulous baked muffins given pre-entree, pricing is reasonable considering the large portions, and it has a nice aura. cons: not good for large groups and the dinners aren't as good as the brunches... oh and during the summers - when they "open up" the restaurant - flies sometimes enter.

Aside from being completely empty on a Wednesday, the food was bland, and the wine selection spotty. More manchu-wok than pan-asian. Service was good, however.

My friends and I went here for a fun, after work get together and we must say we were dually impressed. The atmosphere was trendy but laid back, the food was really delicious and the prices were just right! We had 3 very different meals, 3 very different drinks and liked everything. The bar area is kinda small, so plan on getting there early if that's all you want to do. Make reservations if going anytime past 7.

While the food and overall atmosphere may be excellent at this upscale yet affordable restaurant, the management is arrogant and inhospitable, unless your "in." If your not hip with the management goodluck enjoying yourself. Great waitstaff, and bar service, but wheres the management going?

My good friends and I ate at Punch last night, and we were left astounded by everything from the menu selections to the prompt and attentive service to the extremely reasonable bill. The menu had such exotic combinations of food, demonstrating the chef's knowledge of how spices complement each other. I had cane and sake glazed salmon over field greens, cilantro, and a slab of watermelon ($13) - delicious and very filling! Another reason why I give such a high rating to Punch is because of its ambience - very trendy with dim lighting and plush seats - modern is good in my book. I will definitely take out guests to Punch again!
