I really love the food howevr they just don't care about hospitality and making things right. Especialy when they screw up. I order delivery from them all the time. A while back I ordered some food and spring rolls were part of my order. When I recieved the order the spring rolls were not included. When I called to complain and asked them to please send me what I paid for they said that they will not send the delivery person just for spring rolls. I could not believe it. Remember I alredy paid for it and they would not send it.
This brings me to now, weeks later, I called and ordered Ginger Beef and Chicken Nuggets. I got the Ginger Beef but instead of the Chicken Nuggets they sent me Chicken Satay. When I called to complain and asked them to please send me the correct order the woman i spoke to who took the order told me that I was a problem customer that they had issues with before (the spring rolls). It seems that when they scew up they do not want to hear about it. Both times I asked to speak with a manager and both times i was told that there is no manager available. I was also told that if I hated Red Bamboo so much that I should not order from them. I was appalled. I've been in the food and beverage industry for thirty years. If i found out that one of my employees treated a customer like this i would fire them ASAP. Courtious hospitality is the those most fundamental and crucal part of this business.

Pros: food is fantastic

Cons: unprofessional, lacking management supervision

This is a wonderful and cozy vegetarian restaurant. The food is wonderful and there is a great variety of choices. I highly recommend them. They're not that crowded as their location isn't very central, so you might get in there and avoid the stress of a long wait!

This place has a Caribbean vegetarian theme. The food is really great. Try the coconut shrimp. My only complaint is that the service is spotty; not rude, but slow at times.

I came to Red Bamboo b/c I've been to Soy and Sake Village (not yet on CS) which is a new Veg restaurant that the owner of RB opened and was so excited to give it a try. I went on a Fri night and luckily got the last table for 2 so didn't have to wait but there was quite the wait within a few minutes time. It's a tiny place and I had to shimmy into my seat without disturbing the other diners. The food was def. above average and the menu was quite mouth watering but I probably won't be back soon. I like places that are more low key and less crowded (although some are worth it). I took home some leftovers since the portions were far from skimpy and it made for a nice lunch the next day.

The food is insane! It's some of the best and most creative vegetarian food I've ever had. Everything is so fresh and beautifully prepared. YUM!

Vegetarian meats total yumminess at Red Bamboo. Its dishes are mostly bad for you (especially anything fried) but they're oh so tasty you won't care. Everything from their sandwiches to the entrees are plated beautifully and their portions will not disappoint. A casual atmosphere makes this a fun place to eat as well.

One of my best friends is a vegetarian and the Red Bamboo is her favorite place to eat. I don't think highly of the service there but the food does make up for that. They have a wide variety of vegetarian/ non-vegetarian food.

This is NYC and there are plenty of vegetarian restaurants to choose from. So, my point...AVOID this one at all costs. The food may be decent but the RUDE customer service (the HOSTESS during the DINNER shift) will turn your evening into a night from hell. Great food + quality service=success...unfortunatley not so for Red Bamboo. The hostess wil ignore you and suggest that you squeeze into a two seat table for a party of three. And to top it off when I called the restaurant to discuss my experience with the owner, the employee that answered the phone could not understand how one bad experience could generate a poor opinion. Very easily! NYC Vegeatarian lovers, try S'Nice or Gobo, NOT Red Bamboo!

Following having my gall bladder removed, I had to make serious changes to my diet: I HAVE to eat healthy, otherwise, my insides hurt. I am very happy to say Red Bamboo does not let me down. I've dined there once for dinner and once for lunch. On a Wednesday at 7pm, it was about 45 minutes for our party of four to be seated - accurately quoted by the hostess who took our phone number and promptly called us when our table was paying their check. Our waitress (who I had on both visits) was a bit quiet, and seemed a bit aloof, but service wasn't too bad (an industry girl myself, I'm fairly critical). The second visit, a late lunch for two, was sat immediately and was very expedient. As a (current, but not for much longer) meat eater, I was extremely impressed with the food. A lot of "fake meat" I've had has been bland and generally gross. Not the case at Red Bamboo! My two favorites are the bamboo nuggets & the panko-crusted soul "chicken" sandwich. Proportions are large - all of the appetizers are very share-able. Same for the sandwich - I (very happily) took half home for later. Another favorite is the vegan spring rolls. They come with an absolutely delicious just-spicy-enough dipping sauce, and are a steal at $3.50. The only thing on the menu I was somewhat disappointed with were the steamed spinach Asian dumpling; the dough was too thick and heavy for my liking. Overall, this place is great for meat eaters and vegetarians alike and definitely a great value (dinner for 4 was $65, and lunch for 2 was $19). Now, if only they had fake bacon...

Went to Red Bamboo early on a Saturday evening. I'm not a vegatarian so all I can say about the food is that for a red meat eater I found it to be tasty. The vegatarian and the vegan in the group both said the food was good. This is not a place for big groups as the restaurant is very small. We didn't have a problem getting a seat as we went fairly early by NYC standards, 5pm. We had a group of five and really we were sitting at a table for four. The wait staff were great, very friendly and helpful. The place is so small they kind of tag team the tables. Overall everyone enjoyed the experience and said they would go back.

Pros: selection of vegan and veg, service, resonable price

Cons: very small space

If I wanted meat entrees I'd eat meat. The fake meat entrees neither impress meat eaters or vegetarians. I was dissappointed by both the service, food and decor. They took one of the most incredible spaces in Fort Greene and did very little with it. Following an Ital diet for 7 years now, I can't count how many other places I'd rather eat then this one - even if the selection is one vegetarian entree alone. If you want to cook for the non-meat eater set - don't develop a menu that looks carniverous. Feature and flaunt fruits and vegetables.

i must say, i ate at Red Bamboo even before i was a NYC resident and instantly became hooked. In fact, the thought right now makes my mouth water. The vegetarian/vegan cuisine is excellent, the portions plentiful and the price is just right. now that i live in new york, i bring all of my visitors to Red Bamboo to experience the delicious cusine, however, DO NOT go when you are on the verge of starvation. The wait is looooonnnnngggg. My friend and i waited for about 3 hours once - NO JOKE! once we reached the 1.5 hour wait we felt for sure that our party would be called at any moment. unfortunately, it didn't end up happening for another 1.5 hours. I thought i was going to die, i was so hungry at this point. Other than the wait, i suggest you try Red Bamboo, you won't be disappointed, except if you have to wait for more than 3 hours.

red bamboo is consistently good. the atmosphere is warm, comfortable, and relaxed and the music is usually excellent. highlights include the buffalo "chicken" wings appetizer and the philly cheese "steak". the focus here is soul food, but there are very tasty healthier options available as well. staff is usually friendly and if there is a wait, it's never *too* long. it is another excellent new york vegetarian/vegan option.

This restaurant is a vegitarian's dream. The food is almost completely vegan soul food...something you never dreamed could exist. I don't really like doing a lot of the fake meat, but this place is amazing. My steak loving boyfriend loves this place and the first time we went here he thought the crispy soul chicken was really chicken. My recommendation is that you either go for lunch during the week because they have lunch specials, or you go with a group and try a bunch of things. My personal favorites include the Soul Chicken and the amazing vegan shakes and deserts they have!

Although the service was probably the worst I've had, I'll go back because as a vegan, good food is hard to find. I went with 2 friends, for a total of 3, at 6 PM on a Friday. We were told 20 minutes for wait, which we didn't mind. But after an hour and constantly being skipped over while they seated other parties, we were very upset. We finally got seated in a small table, but a larger table immediately became available. They initially refused to sit us there, but finally gave in. If only they could match the quality of their service to the quality of their food!

So good, it's always crowded. I've had to wait an hour on a Wednesday night. That said, I was perfectly willing to pass the time down the street at the Belgian beer garden in anticipation of Dante's Cuisine and a soy milkshake. The only thing I've ever had that wasn't good was the Unagi Don, a dried-out fake fish that defies the description on the menu. I can't say the service is always great, and last time I went there was a very rude, ditsy hostess. The tables are too close together and it's awkward to get up and down without disturbing the folks next to you, but the food is still the best around.

I recently visited the new branch of Red Bamboo in Ft Greene, Brooklyn, but it was my first RB experience. I am absolutely addicted. Everything on the menu is delicious and well-catered to the tastes of craving-stricken vegetarians and vegans, or health-conscience meat-eaters. The Soul Chicken and Bourbon Chicken dinners are fantastically done, accompanied by sweet corn mashed potatoes (almost as perfect as the "meat" itself). I can't wait to go back!

Great food here, but be prepared to wait if you go in anytime during the weekend or weeknights. It's a tiny little place, and can feel a little cramped. The food is great though and one of the most inventive vegan/veggie places I have ever been to. Never had a bad dish here. It is not that affordable, but not that pricey either, somewhere in the middle. Leave your name with the host, give them your cell number, and go walk around W4th to waste time and wait for the call...

The food at Red bamboo, generally speaking, is quite good, but not quite top notch. While the faux meet is very well done, and presentation excellent, I find in more than a few dishes the sauce to be so heavy as too overwhelm the actual food. The mango salsa with fish cake was too sour, the apple suace for pork chop too sweet. However, the appetizers I've tried (rolls, calamari, fish fingers) were really delicious. Dessert was pretty good too. The service, while polite, can be aggravating slow. Once we got here on weekend night and a 20-min wait turned into 50 minutes. The food took another half hour. While I liked the place, I'd never come back in a weekend night again, and with reservations.

This has become one of my most favorite places to dine lately. I love vegetarian food (although I am not) and this place has some of the best in all NYC. Try the dragonfly rolls, the pork chops, voo doo sticks and anything with mango. Plus the staff is knowledgeable & helpful, so you are guarenteed good service for it's price. You won't be disappointed!

I was drawn to Red Bamboo because they had vegetarian fried shrimp. As a Louisiana girl gone vegetarian, fried shrimp were the one food that called to me from the carnivorous world. These vegetarian beauties are AMAZING! I'm completely addicted. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I drop by for a quick snack or a meal or I grab some takeout to enjoy later at home. The staff is really nice and helpful and the portions are generous.

I am not at all a vegetarian but we decided to take out our very vegetarian friend out for her birthday. We chose this restaurant because of all the good reviews. I made the reservation a week in advance for 7 people. It took them an hour to seat us. This is definately not a good place for groups because it seemed that we took up the first half of the restaurant. But to make up for the wait, the food was fabulous. I must say that if I could eat or cook food the way they make it here, I would gladly become a vegetarian. Don't expect the real thing and you won't be disappointed.

My cousin recommended this restaurant because I am nuvo-vegan. It is a wonderful place to dine! The atmosphere is inviting and relaxed. I enjoyed every part of my meal (and some of hers) from the appetizers to dessert to the wonderful service we received. I found myself raving about the butter pecan ice cream we chose to end the meal. And the spring rolls I order for an appetizer almost made me get another order to go. I will continue to visit this restaurant over and over again. The one problem I noticed was that it is so popular there is not enough room for all their patrons.

After reading the many good reviews I decided to venture to "Red Bamboo" . It was nearly 5:30 on a Friday evening and the restaurant was already busy. As I was by myself I was quickly seated. If you don't like sitting close to others then I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. I was so close to a couple that came in after me that they started a conversation with me. It took a while for the waiter to aknowledge my presence eventually I ordered and appetizer and sandwich. For an appetizer I enjoy the Thai Vegetable Rolls. The rolls were well sized and tastey. I ordered the Seitan Sandwich with a salad. Food was served promptly though I recieved fries instead of salad. Quickly fixed. Had a piece of pecan pie for desert. Was not worth the $6 price. Overall I spent $21 before tip. Enjoyed my experience

I'm a non-veggie so I usually don't eat the faux-meat dishes, but my friend insisted that Red Bamboo had "the best" soy "meat." She was right!
The Tandoori Chicken Supreme was AMAZING and just-the-right-amount-of-spicy, and it actually tasted BETTER than chicken. Also, the grilled soy beef Voodoo Sticks were terrific too. I've tried to go veggie off-and-on for years. Red Bamboo will help me "stay on the veggie wagon" when I have those meat-taste cravings! Thanks Red Bamboo!!

Pros: nice atmosphere, great food, nice neighborhood

I couldn't believe how tasty and authentic the fish, chicken and shrimp-like veggie dishes were. Combined with excellent sauces and a very nice presentation I have to say that Red Bamboo was outstanding for this new vegetarian. One word of advice to the NYU students eating there, however. There is virtually nothing on the menu that two people can get that would justify a $2 tip, especially when breaking mommy's $100 bill. Spread the love with the terrific waitstaff next time!

I'm in the process of becoming a vegetarian and it's been very difficult because i desperately missed the taste of chicken and meat. Red Bamboo is a miracle for people like me! The food was delicious. I had the chicken quesadilla and was incredibly surprised at how delicious it was. My boyfriend, who's a life time vegetarian, said it was the best food he had in the city. The waitress and atmosphere were great. We'll definitely be back soon.
P.S. Try their cranberry and orange juice...juice. It's to die for!

I was only in town for 41 /2 days but ended up going back to eat there a twice because it was so good. The lady I was traveling with is a hard core carnivore but ended up being really surprised and loved it too. It's really refreshing for a long term vegetarian from Iowa to be able to eat everything on a menu at restaurant (there are only 2 places where I live that are that way) The food and service was excellent and very efficient. I especially loved the BBQ wings but would reccomend pretty much anything. It was also nice that everything was made form scratch too and not pre packaged substitutes. Very affordable too. will definetly go back next time I'm in town.

Awesome vegetarian soul food restaurant with a lengthy and diverse menu. Even carnivores like it. Try the shrimp appetizer (you won't know it is from the vegetable kingdom) and the codfish cakes. Leave room for dessert, their non dairy ice cream and sundaes are amazing.

Easily one of the best restaurants in New York that offer vegan/vegetarian cuisine. Favorite dishes amongst me and friends include the soul chicken sandwich, Bamboo club, Philly cheesesteak, buffalo chicken wings, and the grilled chicken salad. Personally, they make some of the best Miso soup I've ever tasted- they load it with vegetables so its more hearty than your average miso soup. The desserts are absolutely to die for - excellent cakes (try the Peanut Butter Tandy Cake), delicious non-dairy ice cream and even better milkshakes! The waitstaff is by far one of the most friendly I've ever encountered

On the downside, the restaurant is extremely small and there tends to be long waits to be seated in the evenings and on weekends when it gets crowded. However, the food there is superb and well worth the wait. Highly recommended for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike!

I've been a vegetarian since I was 9 years old and this is an excellent restaurant. The key is to know what to order. My friends and I love the buffalo wings, bourbon chick and the soul chicken. The soul chicken is straight up out of control. For those vegetarians who liked the taste of meat but decided to change for different reasons, this place has some very very good food. Also, the buffalo wings are better in the restaurant than they are delivered. Soul chicken is good for the hunger and good for soul.

Red Bamboo hands down has the best consistent veggie fare. I've turned on several avowed steak and potato folks over to the place who have returned on their own with relatives and friends.

The meat tastes like meat. For best results stick to the chicken and pork dishes, the creole soul or parmesan chicken and butterfly soy chops with the collard greens are some of the best veggie dishes I've had.

The desserts are very good as well, the vegan short cake, raspberry or strawberry were excellent. The tofutti chocolate / chocolate chip mint ice creams were great. Avoid the boston cream cake, it's a solid brick of blandness.

The service is good, courteous and prompt.

Weekends, dinner reservations are recommended

The lunchtime menu is a good way to sample different dishes.

The decor is modern fusion, like the cuisine. High marks for the quality consistency.

Having being a vegetarian for 23 years,Red Bamboo is the best New York vegetarian restaurant I have found.Jason Wong, owner/creator of Red Bamboo's dishes, exemplifies the melding of vegetarian and nouvelle cuisine to the ultimate degree. My husband and I have travelled far to eat fine meals at Red Bamboo; I also order Red Bamboo food for my office. The Salmon Teriyaki is gorgeous, succulent, and perfectly cooked - you would swear you were eating real fish. Master Chef Wong works on his creations, using cooking utensils like an artist's paintbrush and combining color, texture, and flavor to please every palate. I am taking my whole family, including my father who normally disdains vegetarian food, to Red Bamboo for a Thanksgiving Feast - a better recommendation than that I cannot give! Try Red Bamboo at your first opportunity!

Nothing beats Red Bamboo's Cajun Fried Shrimp. It's hard to imagine something as good as their world famous Soul Chicken, but the Shrimp is off the hook.

It's great as a vegeterian to go to a restaurant and be able to order everything on the menu. They do a great job of making the food accurate(shrimp looks like shrimp, chicken like chicken, etc), and the taste is fantastic! non-vegeterians wont be able to tell the difference(for the most part). everything was delicious

Its all about the Chicken Parmesan. I have officially turned on over a dozen people to this fabulous restaurant. Creative, determined and very professional; (while being casual) the staff and owners have done a wonderful job living up to its parent company: VP2. Two thumbs Up!

I've been vegan for over 10 years & have tried just about every veg place i know of...this one was THE WORST!
We started with gyoza, which was doughy, watery, stale & flavorless.
My husband ordered "buffalo wings"...gooey egg-shaped 'things' with the worst flavor & texture i've ever had! The mashed potatoes were COLD & not freshly made.
I had fish & chips...decent, if greasy, fishsticks, but served on a mound of soggy fries that could feed about 5-6 people! the papaya side salad tasted only of vinegar-nasty!
the menu looked great, but the food was the biggest disappointment i've had yet!

The rubbery food we were served here turned out to be a Soy type of replacement. It was of strange texture, something like rubber cement, but a little like a pencil eraser. When we asked what exactly it was, the waitress gave us a sarcastic response, and blew us off. I guess it's for snobs or something. My 3 year old nephew refers to it as Red Booger, I must agree.

I can't resist the soul chicken whether I am at VP2 or Red Bamboo, but I've been a good girl and at least tried some other menu items and everything, and I mean EVERYTHING I tried has proved amazing. The service was great, and even though my waitress was having a terrible day, my service was not affected in the slightest. A wonderful place to be.

After reading the reviews right here I thought, "hmmm... maybe this is a vegetarian restaurant finally worth trying." Well, I'm sad to say, it was absolutely sub-standard in every way.

The carrot ginger salad dressing, which previously I thought was rather hard to screw up, was waaaayyy over sweetened, as was the soy dipping sauce that came with the chewy, flavorless, mush-mounds that they tried to pass off as dumplings. The Korean style scallion pancake was a glutinous mess, and the black rice with edamame was flavorless and overcooked. A complete and utter disappointment.

Now this is veggie soul! This spot motivates me to continue as a vegetarian. I know of no other place where I can get such good MEATLESS soul food from in NYC. Nothing flies, swims, or walks, yet it's finger lickin good. Peace to the chef/founder, Jason (who comes out to talk to you) and his crew. My favorite dish is the collard green rolls. My homegirls and I visit at least 4-5 times a month. We have named it our meeting spot/headquarters. The staff knows us by name when we enter. My friend even received a phone call there once. I have taken non-vegetarians there so that they could see that not all vegetarian restaurants are flavorless. The atmosphere is great! They even complied to play one of my personal CD's when I was there. I just hope they remain humble and cool and non-commercialized. It's all PEACE YA'LL!

It's a vegetarian paradise... but the way I see it, it's a great place to take a non-vegetarian to show them what AMAZING vegetarian and vegan food there is out there. I found the food to be quite interesting and delicious. I recommend the Collard Green rolls and Codfish cakes with Mango salsa but I saw many dishes pass by and they all look amazing... (You should see the Portabella!) Jason Wong, Chef Proprietor has done a magnificent job!
