Fairway Market

Since I changed jobs, I decided to use Fairways instead of Murrays Cheese as it was closer- Let me tell you that I will be travelling to Murrays. All 4 cheeses and one other produce (membrillo) is nowhere near as good as the stuff Murray's has. My first few trips to Fairways had me impressed, but Ive quickly learnt that while they are better than your avg supermarket, and reasonable priced, that they lack in quality. The meats IMHO are only middling, - in fact I think their name captures it - Fair. Not good and not bad and preferable to Associated or Whatever- but no match for the fine purveyors Manhattan has to offer. I would give them 21/2 stars but this site allows only whole numbers

This supermarket has an excellent variety of products, including international foods. Check out the bakery for excellent artisan breads and the best bagels! They have fresh coffee, lots of cheeses and even prepared foods. This place is a mecca for all the cooks out there. The prices are very reasonable, cheaper than Zabar's for just as good breads and cheeses. For free parking, go to the Harlem location, although the parking lot is tight and hard to navigate. It is very difficult to park near the Upper West Side location, which can also get too crowded due to very narrow aisles.

The upper level has organic food, produce, and groceries. The lower level carries excellent high quality cheeses, oils, vinegars, produce, meat, groceries, and more! It can get very crowded here, but the food is worth the elbow bruising. The prices are a tad high compared to other grocery stores, but if you only get non-mass-marketed items here, it's worth it.

my experience with this place is somewhat limited, but highly important. the day after our wedding, we planned a picnic in central park, and ordered a sandwich catering plate from this grocery store (mainly based on price and selection). let me tell you, these were the best damn sandwiches that anyone had ever eaten. i mean, really unbelievable - top notch ingredients, perfect combinations of flavors, and enough variety in the selection to please almost the entire wedding guest list. plus, the people working there were super helpful and friendly, making planning the picnic a complete non-stresser.

If only there was a Fairway in every neighborhhod in the city. Or if only I even lived at Fairway. New York City is all about compromising one's day to day life, but this just is not the way that Fairway is. In my opnion, it is the best grocery store in the entire country. Great selection, groceries, produce, organic products, and best prices. Not to mention the cheapest beer in the city.

Fairway is the place to go for all your supermarket needs. It's huge and has a great selection of fine produce, meats, cheeses, dairy, and grocery items. The prices are very reasonable which is why people flock from all over the city to shop here. The people are very helpful if you need assistance and the food is always very fresh. It's a really pleasure shopping at Fairway and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't done it yet.

its not really position in the right area in the city. there prices are average and produce is fresh. Its located next to a clothing store which is werid how that would happen. Visit if you live close by =]

What else could you want besides the best prices for quality fruit and vegetables in Manhatten? Shop there and go to H&H for your bagels afterwards. Not the most friendly or helpful service, but who needs that when shopping for papaya, eh?

I really enjoy going to Fairway to shop! It is a great store with a nice selection. They have a ton of produce (organic and regular) as well as great specialty items. It is acrossed town from us but still worth going to when we get the chance. Definitely worthwhile and recommended!

This market has fresh foods and more selection of organic and healthy foods than most. The prices are comparable to other grocery stores in Manhattan, but the meats are fresher and the store visibly cleaner. Watch out - the aisles are small and usually packed with people with carts and such and bring a jacket along to go into the cold room. If you don't you can borrow one of theirs.

I love Fairway and when I need olive oil it is a good reason to go there. I live in Queens. so it is a trip, but when I go I buy their own olive oil which I prefer to the much pricier imported brands and lots of my friends agree with me. Also, their cheese, especially parmegian cheese, is so fresh that I hardly get out of the store without tasting it. Their prices are much cheaper than any comparable store in Manhattan and their quality is very high. One of my favorite Manhattan stores to shop.

This is probably one of my favorite markets in the city. Top quality foods and good prices and salespeople that are both helpful and friendly. These guys have GREAT shrimp. I don't know why, but I love the shrimp they sell. Fresh and wonderful foods!

The Fairway Market is a great place to shop in NYC. The prices are much better than at fancier markets (such as D'ag stores) and their selection is very good. The lines can get a bit long, but that's too be expected in NYC. Luckily they have a large variety of chilled beverages because on hot summer days those are very good sellers I'm sure. They also have a terriffic fruit department to cool you off on a warm day and don't forget to pick up an ice cream bar as a special frozen treat.

Fairway Supermarket in New York City is hands down the best market around in terms of selection. It's one of the only places I know you can get organic seaweed and fresh produce as well as a bag of Oreo cookies. The only downside is that it is ALWAYS crowded and the aisles are very narrow so be prepared to push and shove your way to great groceries.

Fairway has a great selection of fresh fruits and vegetables and, for a market in the city, their prices are not too bad. I would not buy canned food here though since it is more expensive and the variety is limited.

I think people like Fairway because it has that "warehouse" kind of feel, which equates to being in a "gourmet food mine" or something. However, there are always so many people there that it doesn't seem worth trying to push your cart through a maze of shelves only to wait on line for a billion years. The value isn't even all THAT. There are gourmet food items there, but nothing terribly out of the ordinary. I would rather go to Whole Foods, where their lines move quickly and there are some slow times.

Great market on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. They have a nice variety of specialty foods and a fantastic cheese area staffed with experts to help you pick just the right one. Prices are also pretty reasonable (for the city). It can get kind of packed on the weekends, but it's still manageable. They also offer delivery.
