I've been a customer of this restaurant for the past four years, I'm a lover of Latin cuisine. But today I had the worst experience in my life. I made a complaint to one of the waitresses about how salty the appetizer was, she was willing

Pros: Great Music

Great food, great atmosphere, good service, but with a large group it's definitely difficult to be served together and in a timely manner. The food is worth it, though. If you're going out to eat with 2-3 friends you should definitely check it out. It is in a bit of a remote spot so it's certainly not a tourist attraction!

I came with a large group on Friday night, but there was delicious sangria so the 30 minute was no big deal. The food was really, really good (sweet plaintains filled with spicy beef are small, but every perfect bite counts!). The menu truly is a terrific blend of fusion food, so whether you want a burrito, mango gazpacho, or tostones they've got it in some delicous way!

I've been to many spanish restaurants and I must say that Boca Chica was one of the best. The waiter/waitress were extremely fast and efficient. The food was amazing!!! It was layed out beautifully and smelled so good. Well worth the wait. I went there on a Saturday, and it was packed. I would definitely go there again!!

Pros: The Ropa Vieja was delicious

yum-eeee.

ambiance: festive, fun, loud and boisterous - but not obnoxious, laid-back, colorful

prices: a little pricey, but not TOO bad

food: last night was my first time... i tried the shrimp ticul [green chili sauce with red onions and lime juice] accompanied by black beans, white rice and a type of coleslaw salad. The shrimp was absolutely ridiculously amazingly deliciously spicy and fresh. It was SO good and flavorful. I highly recommend this dish if you can handle your mouth being on fire.

service: strictly business - good speed, was not rushed, efficient, no extra chatter, water was filled regularly

meal came out to about $24 including a pacifico, tax, and tip

came her friday night. arrived around 8 and had to wait 30 mins or so for a table. shared the shrimp quesaditas which were good but probably had like one shrimp in it. shared a pitcher of white sangria which was a lil bit too sweet and not too heavy on the alcohol. i had the ropa vieja which was good. served with black beans, white rice and some salad. my friend had one of their specials.. chicken with sweet potato? It was ok but the chicken was a little bland and felt a lil bit under cooked?? Everything smelled really good tho and the portions are pretty big. Shared teh chocolate bread pudding which was very good. Pretty much like a chocolate cake the size of a baseball. The bill came to $61 total after tax. Although the wait was annoying, the food was good so i might be back for a regular-night out kind of dinner.

Boca Chica (small mouth) is a great place. The food is very good, try the Steak!!
I go here at least 2-3 a week and never had a bad time. Its very fun place. Bar scene gets really good too
on the weekends theres a little wait but having drinks at the bar makes time go by fast. service is always good. Dont let the long waits push you away from this fun/hip place.

Pros: Great Food, Great Drinks, Good Prices, reservations only from Sunday- Thursday

Cons: Music sounds like oldies should be updated more salsa please!! No reservations Fri-Sat

.

All the fish specials and shrimp dishes are fantastic. I've been going at least once every other week for years and the food is always first rate. I always bring out of town friends here and it never disappoints. The dipping sauce that comes with the complimentary plantains is amazing. Great, friendly staff as well.

Great ambiance, great drinks, great food in generous portions, what more can you ask for? All I would say is that you should come early because they don't take reservations. I had about an hour of a wait which I didn't even mind because I hung out at the bar and had some great drinks. Overall a class act.

My girlfriend and I started going here a few years ago. We are in at least twice a month ever since. The food is always great. Drinks good and strong. Service is top knotch. Friday and Saturday night get kind of loud and sometimes a long wait. But that is true of any place, for Fridays and Saturdays, that is this good.

We recently went last Saturday, October 21, 2006, with a group of 13 people. We had called ahead to make reservations, but we were told we could not, however, we were told to arrive at around 6:30 to accommodate our party. Once we got there, 8 of 13 in our group, the hostess was rude and unprofessional. Her attitude did not change all night. We were finally able to sit when person number 11 arrived, but no sooner, the hostess would not sit our party, yet was angry that we were "blocking" her way. 13 people were sat on 3 small tables. The food was ok - not typical at all - I ordered an alleged Dominican dish (chicharrones de pollo) - it was far from what I ordered - it was just fried chicken, not chicharrones. After we ate dinner, 2 of our friends left - the rude hostess approached and wanted to take a table away since "you are only 11 now". We were not even allowed to order dessert nor coffee (which we were going to). I will NEVER go to this place.

Pros: Mojitos were good

Cons: SERVICE IS AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.

Great ambience, fun and quirky crowd and pretty good food. Not great food, but filling and satisfying. Good sangrias and mojitos. The steak sandwich is very good as is shrimp ceviche (although a ceviche is a wrong term since the shimp is actually cooked, not marinated).

We spent $40 a piece here. The dinner was really good, but that is somewhat pricey for the Lower East Side. The big expense was the great Xingu Beer at $6.50 a pop. The spicy shrimp was a welcome change in a city full of food wimps. All the dishes were delicious, and the staff was really accommodating of our rearranging the furniture as we grew. Dessert? The pineapple with rum sauce! Come before 7 if you want to be sure of a seat. Yowsah! --Eat club is a roving group of NYC gluttons.

When my boyfriend and I were going on our first date I went on citysearch to find a good inexpensive date spot. I chose Boca Chica and I am so happy I did. The place is very small and but also very colorful and festive. The food is authentic and DELICIOUS. My boyfriend is not very adventurous when it comes to food but he loved the Arroz con Pollo and even ate some of my Ropa Vieja. This is not a trendy hopping bar the attitude of the place is that more of a cafe than a restaurant but it is very good food for a very good price and the decor puts you in a great mood. Plus if you want to check out the bar scene afterwards it is in a great location. There are probably six tables and one booth in the entire place but the staff does not rush you out, Try the Flan and the white sangria- both delicious! My boyfriend and I have been together over a year now and he still suggests Boca Chica everytime we plan to go out to eat.

I love this place. I've been here lots of time and try to bring anyone who hasn't tried it. The food is fresh, flavorful and delicious. I don't know how else to describe it.
It's a bar/restaurant, so it's loud music, crowded around the bar.
Free plaintains and bean dip fills you up, so don't indulge.
Their drinks are great and service is quick.

This place is one of my favorites. The food is great. The fried plantains and dip they give you at the table are delicious and different. The drinks are REALLY strong. I cant help but order the Pastel de Choclo everytime, it's so good. The only thing is that it's tiny so a group of 2 is definitely best here. And the bar is small too, so waiting for a table can be uncomfortable.

We celebrated a friends birthday there last night. We selected Boca Chica because there were so many bar/lounges within walking distant from it. Before hand we were told that they do not take reservations on Saturday nights and the wait could be around 1hour anytime after 8pm for large parties. We thought that was an inconvience but were told we could hang out at the bar and wait. When we got there we realized why they dont take reservations, the place is tiny. However we were seated pretty quickly. The food was enjoyable, the food was well seasoned and cooked and we had everything from coconut shrimp, steak and chicken. The sangria was kind of bland. They did bring out a piece of cake with a candle on it for my friend which was a cute added touch. Overall we enjoyed our time at Boca Chica.

This place can get pretty busy, so I would suggest making reservations. We had to wait about 45min-1h before we were seated, but they were kind enough to give us any one appetizer from the menu on the house due to the long wait.

The food (vegetarian & non-vegetarian) was truly authentic as well as the drinks (alcoholic & non-alcoholic). The quantity is definitely more than average, so don't go with a full stomach. Also, unless you really can handle chilies don't order the shrimps with green chili sauce - I personally loved it.

At Boca Chica you will get well-cooked food; however, it won't actually be true Brazilian, but true Carribean. You will pay an average of $10.00 to 15.00 for a huge plate of food. Accompaning fish or meat are some hefty side dishes such as white rice, black beans, yucca, radish, tomato, and green pepper salad, or plaintains cooked a variety of different ways. As for the ambience, it is quaint, a dimly-lit hip place, but it is loud. You have to scream in order to hold a conversation. Lastly, the drinks are pricy but are compensated by being strong, so be careful.

The food here ranges from good to very good. It does not deserve a rating above 9 on this website, but it is very tasty and reasonably priced--probably should have an 8. The best deal I've found in the neighborhood, though, which is generally overpriced. Steak was fantastic. Chicken was good, but about the quality a very good cook would make at home. Sides were all delicious. Drinks weak, but big, so they add up to a good deal.

Dined there twice. First try was so-so, had arroz con pollo, not great. Second time was a disaster, a tilapia that was way frozen & then overcooked. Not worth the money. The waitress knew she shouldn't have recommended it: she never came back to ask how my entree was.

I remember when this place opened in the late 80s. I took me a while to visit, and I don't go often (about once a year), but whenever I'm in the mood for some very good pan-Latin food, I skip the scene at Patria or Chicama, and head over to Boca Chica.

It's a 20-something crowd enjoying the good value (read: very inexpensive). Very loud, small room, but the food is very good, and so is the friendly, accomodating service.

I always get the Camarones Chipolte, spicey, smokey, great beans. The drinks are excellent. One of the best mojitos and margaritas in the city, for a very good price--two of these and I'm loopy.

The coconut flan for desert is very good.

Boca Chica is a winner. I hope they say around for a long time.

Boca Chica is an old-timer in this ever-flactuating corner of EV. Years ago they would clear out the tables after midnight and turn the restaurant into a steamy brazillian/salsa dance hall. It was a blast. Today it's just a ho-hum restaurant with mediocre food. Our chicken breast special looked pretty, but was terribly dried out and overcooked. The penionitas, advertised as "filled with spicy meat," were very sweet and hardly spicy, like bananas stuffed with hamburger helper. The fillet of fish with tomato sauce was mostly a lot of sauce on top of a very thin fillet. With so many better nearby choices, this place needs to shape up...

I had a nice dinner there last night. The waiters couldn't stop refilling our water. The complimentary plantain chips were tasty, and I appreciated the vegetarian entrees especially since this restaurant concentrates on their ultra-fresh vegetables. It's a reasonable restaurant with a fun atmosphere, and there's always something new to look at.

It's a reasonable restaurant with a fun atmosphere, and there's always something new to look at.

Pros: colorful decorations, friendly service, quick water refills

Cons: a bit loud

I stopped by for drinks a few months ago. The bartender was great, so were the drinks. We went back for dinner recently and were equally impressed with the service and the quality. Our waiter knew the menu very well and made some excellent suggestions. We had a tasty steak dish and (possibly) the best shrimp dish I've had in a restaurant. A great stop after catching a flick at Sunshine.

This restaurant is very over rated, quality of food is mediocre, too pricy for the food you get. Not true to carribean or latin food at all.

Never had a bad time here. Sure it's loud and you are sitting on top of one another but the food is consistenty good and authentic. No hype here, just good eats.

Had a friend in from out of town and what better way to start a great nite than at Boca Chica? Good sangria, zesty food, and a fun crowd of guys at the table next to us (thanks for the tequila shots) made a very convincing argument for her to move here! Thanks for the fun memories

Unpretentious and delicious would aptly describe Boca Chica. The portions are enough for two and very affordable and the service is prompt and helpful. Who knew that plantains could be so good? The drinks are amazing -- the pina colada is so good you want to be alone with it for some quality time!
Next time you want a little bit of latin american loving, I would definitely recommend stopping by.

GREAT food and friendly service. This little eatery is a favorite of mine -- close to home and just like mom's cooking.

Delicious food and STRONG drinks that pack a wallop. The pork stuffed plantains are very flavorful with the perfect balance of the sweet plantains and the spicy pork. I take friends that visit from out of town so that we can all sample the dishes and have yet to be less that completely please with the food.

This is a loud fun place to go. Quick service (once you get a table), and decent food. If you go on a Thurs or Fri evening be prepared to wait b/c the place gets jammed early. The acoustics of the place make it seem like everyone is talking at full volume - it's so loud you could probably discuss classified information inside and the people at the next table won't hear you.

Been to Boca Chica twice and loved both experiences.....once with a large group and once with a friend. Food is wonderful, as well as the mojitos. Watch out though, they do not play around with the alcohol!!!!

If you've been intimidated by the massive dinner crowds, try Sunday brunch (but, sadly, not open on Saturday morning). Food is tasty and not too heavy. Love the eggs migas. And brunch cocktails are a measly 2 bucks.

Rave-inspiring seafood, spicy specialties and strong drinks in a crowded but amiable atmosphere. Added draw: we saw several Beastie Boys here with Cibo Matto.

Boca Chica continues to be one of the most festive spots in town: When the salsa music is blasting, you can almost feel the building bouncing with the beat. By all means go with a group and share decent finger food like plantain chips and…
