I've been to this place numerous times and I've enjoyed 99%...never, ever been disappointed.
You'll be shocked how fresh and delicious sushi it is.
I would recommend the Sake too.
Ambiance, service... EVERYTHING is just perfect... seriously.

This is one of the best and friendliest Japanese restaurants in Astoria! Everything there is so fresh and delicious that it melts in your mouth. I have to admit that they have to work a little bit more on the decor but the service is great, the food is wonderful and the chef shows amazing attention to detail ! My husband and I enjoy going there almost every week. You must try them out and you will be back! Oh, did I mention that when the bill comes they actually do not empty your wallet, unlike many other (Japanese) restaurants?

I've tried this place about 4 times since it first opened. Each time I told myself I will never go back....but I did....with disappointments. I figured there were probably other good item on the menu for me to try. First, I hate that bright white light behind the sushi bar. I know it's only lighting, but it really ruins the mood and the atmosphere. I've tried the bento box, sushi, sashimi, Korean dishes, etc. If you want quality sushi, not here. If you know real Korean dishes, still not here. It's edible, but if you want to spend a little more $ for quality and atmosphere...got to the city. P.S. Shima has better Japanese cuisine in Astoria, although service lags sometimes.

Great place for Sushi in Astoria. My boyfriend and I prefer brown rice sushi, and they always accomodate us. The fish is fresh, the bento boxes are huge, and the staff is friendly. Other sushi spots in Astoria either do not have brown rice or they put mayonnaise in their rolls, yuck.

I went to Gowasabi for dinner with a friend. Gowasabi serves Japanese and Korean food. I believe that the owners and workers are Korean. My friend and I each ordered the sushi rolls dinner set. The rolls tasted pretty good and the amount of food was certainly filling. Unfortunately, towards the end of the meal, I noticed a small cockroach was crawling on the back of one of our chairs (the booth-like chairs that are on the side of the wall). The roach crawled away and my friend and I chose to disregard the roach without making a big scene in front of the other customers. However, I felt compelled to say something when we saw a SECOND roach crawl directly onto our table. The waiter that I called over simply apologized. He did not offer to give us a percentage off of the bill and was adamant that we had to pay the bill in its entirety. Given the situation and his negative attitude, I refused to pay for more than half of the bill. I left the half that we owed and threatened to call the Department of Health if he had problems with the amount that we left. I have not returned to the establishment since that time.

PROS: sushi/rolls taste pretty good
CONS: 2 cockroaches, unsatisfactory response from employee

Unbelievably bad service. I ordered dinner at 7pm. I followed up on my order twice. 45 minutes later, I was told that the delivery guy was heading out with it right now. It is now 30 minutes after my follow up call and I have yet to see my food! Do not order deliver from this establishment. They could at least have the courtesy to inform you the true estimated delivery time. If they had told me the truth I would have easily walked over to pick it up. Instead, I'm held hostage in my apt, dizzy from starvation, while waiting for the delivery guy who is bound to never show up.

Good variety of Japanese dishes. Also a few Korean dishes. Their food is tasty and of high quality for the price. Their service is average.

The environment is very nice and looks modern. Try the plum wine, it is very good.

Go Wasabi is our new favorite Korean restaurant in the area. Excellent service, great music (check out their jazz night), and good location. I love their Bi Bim Bop (sp?) and BBQs. Check out their lunch menus. Their delivery is faster than express train. Great meal for less. Far better place than Shima on Broadway (*UGH). This is a good example of how Japanese business gone bad and lost to Koreans in town. GoWasabi!!

"UPDATE"
Okay, so here's the unfortuant news...they can't cook Udon or Soba. The soup is totally wrong, and too sweet. Must've used wrong dashi base. So stay away from noodle dish there.

I LOVE SUSHI and Go Wasabi is a great place to have it. I doubt if any of the other reviewers who disliked Go Wasabi are very knowledgable about great sushi. I wonder if the guy who talked about this Greek neighborhood has ever had sushi in Japan.
EVERYONE who works at Go Wasabi is very cordial, efficient, friendly, and most importantly, the sushi is always very fresh, and they have innovative items. And the ambience is cool- Really, you won't go wrong at this place. I've NEVER gotten a bad meal there, and I live right down the street, by Astoria Park. Also, my wife and I took her boss and her bosses' daughter there, a three year old, and they are VERY child friendly, little Lilly had a great time, with the piano music and everything, and our waitress even made a children's beginner chopstick for Lilly. GO!

Their teriyake box is gigantic - enough food for 2 people for sure, and delicious.

I recenty dined at the 30th Ave. location, and was really pleased with the entire experience. The waitstaff and hostess were impeccable in their attention to detail, their efficient service, and their overall charm. The sushi was fresh, and delivered in a timely manor, and the portion of teriyaki chicken was enormous. We were lucky to go on a night when the restaurant was hosting live jazz, and the music greatly enriched the overall atmosphere of Go Wasabi. Astoria really needed a quality sushi restaurant, and Go Wasabi certainly qualifies as one of the best. Highly recommended.

As asushi addict, I was very excited when I saw them opening a Japanese restaurant in the middle of little Greece. (I live around the block from this place). When they first opened, the food was above average for Queens standards, but below average for Manhattan standards but the service was fantastic that I kept going back, also due to lack of options. Now, only a year after they opened, I regret it every time I eat there. The sushi is mediocre at best, and the portions are pretty ungenerous considering the pricing. Consider hopping on the train to any Manhattan neighborhood sushi joint until something better turns up.

I love Go Wasabi. The food is always fresh, the restaurant is clean and the wait staff is friendly. I recently went there with a friend of mine who had just spent two years living in Japan. He was skeptical that anything could live up to the food he had eaten in Japan, but he said this was the best japanese food he has had since being back in the US.

For a "Japanese" restaurant, it is not authentic Japanese food. The Nabeyaki Udon is not what I expected. It didn't have any of the things that usually come in it (chunks of chicken, shrimp tempura, kamaboko, etc). The sashimi dinner, raw fish, was fresh but very little in portion. It was not worth the $13 that it was. The sushi was small as well. There was hardly any rice under the raw fish. The sushi rice had no taste to it as well. We were definitely disappointed.

HANDS DOWN the best service I have seen yet in the New York area, without a doubt. And the food was even better. This is the best thing to hit Astoria in a long time. We ate a little of everything, and all of it was perfect. I give it a 12 out of 10!!!

The first time I ate at Gowasabi I was delighted, the food was good and very generous.

The second time I took take out, and it was not as good, both wasabi and ginger was forgotten, but I thought I'll give them another chance, after all anyone can make mistakes.

The portions was cut in half, and it was not near the same qualityas before. Rice is not expensive, so I don't know why they where so cheap with it, the size of the fish was also much much smalle then before and smaller than many other sushi places in astoria.
It is not worth it to go to gowasabi, unless you like very little food for a high price, then this is the place for you.
