Great pizza place. That's it.

Pros:
-pizza is really good( the big one is really huge what makes it more delicious!)
-live music
-lot's of tables

Cons:
-it's a little bit pricey...
-the waitress were awkward...no forms and the lady had a long hair laying all over her shoulders...hey,you are not on a cat walk!...
-the restroom is strange..why would they need a bath there???

overall, I love this place and I go there a lot. It's a super casual place, but food is good....I'm always happy with my meal (even if the service is a little spotty sometimes). The piano player is a nice touch, too!
Reasonable prices.

This is the greeting you will generally receive when walking into this excellent example of old-New York family style italian dining. The Chef is what I call an over achiever, the specials are far more delicious then what you might expect to find at a "Pizza Bar". Although the Pizza is very good the real values are the sandwiches, salads and Clams Arturo. THEN THERE IS THE JAZZ! With no cover charge! It is simply the best in NYC. The Harry Whitaker Trio is usually in session and always has special artists sitting in. The waiters sing as well. Jimmy, who is more of a host then waiter, is by far the last great waiter in NYC. He remembers your particulars, comps and deserves the highest tips you can pay. As mentioned by others, you can also eat at the bar. Tony your bartender, who looks like Al Pacino, fills all drink orders. He also takes bar food orders and closes out every cash receipt himself, without a hitch. The crowd literally varies in age from the ancient to the very young, but the patrons are generally the 30-somethings and the NYU hip. Every local NYC celeb knows about this place and occasionally as well as inconspicuously drops in. Did I mention the KITCHEN IS OPEN LATE and they DELIVER! Arturo recently left us but Here's to Arturo??s forever!!

Pros: Good Food Good Jazz

Cons: Often crowded

This used to be my "Cheers," but never before have I allowed myself to be treated so poorly, with such disrespect, by restaurant staff who so overtly (and so tactlessly) insist that I bring in new patrons. I was once a regular, but I will never be back. If you want real jazz music, go to a real jazz venue. If you want real pizza, go to a real pizza place. This restaurant is neither one of the above--and it doesn't appreciate its regulars.

One of the best pizzas you would have ever eaten in your life. The best part about it is the way they bake it, truly good, if you are making a trip to NY do not miss this one!!!!

The best Pizza in NYC and probably ever. The crust is so good you will remember the taste for a long time. The live jazz band playing will also add to the experience.

My husband and I enjoyed a nice dinner. The bathroom looked like a crime scene with its dirty bathtub, but that didn't ruin my night. I noticed i had been charged 4 times and called and asked to speak to a manger. The manger refused to give me his name, and told me they were a restuarant, not a bank and I shouldn't "live on the edge" with my money and should learn to manage my money better. I was shocked he would make this assumption when he should have been apologizing for charging me four times and rectifying the problem. Its not his business, but I happen make a good living as a surgeon and know how to manage my finances. That doesn't mean I am willing to overpay for a meal 4 times. Ridiculous conversation. 20 min and he still wouldn't help or give me his name. I'll stick to Lombardi's, food is better and they treat customers with a modicum of respect. I'll never go back and I reccomend no one else does, especially if you want to use credit.

Pros: THE BEST PIZZA IN NYC!!

Cons: Houston St is not Park Avenue

Without exaggeration my worst NYC dining experience in 13 months living here. First, something nice: the live music was a pleasant surprise. However, the pizza was flavorless (except for the charcoal); Toppings were frozen or canned; Service was missing in action; and the Decor truly putrid. Go to John's on Bleeker a few blocks away.

This is one of my favorite old-school Italian spots in the city, especially for the coal oven pizza. I usually get the pizza, because I love that really thin crust and the garlicy sauce (I sometimes ask for extra sauce.) I've had friends who worked here, and they gave me a great insider tip: the same size ball of dough is used for the medium and large pies. So that means the large pies have thinner crust, and the smaller size pie has a thicker crust. Order according to your preference. The stuffed sole is also good, as are the other "Italian Specialties" -- although probably nothing to write home about. This has been a family-run place since the 1950s (and yes, the same family). Like most families, it is a little dysfunctional. Delivery and in-restaurant service are usually pretty slow, but it can't be beat if you've got some time and you're looking for a taste of good old-fashioned, old-school NY.

Long time fan of this place to dine in, but back to back bad experiences have prompted this disappointed review... the last time i went in the service was exhausting, even to someone like myself who as a former waitress has virtually unlimited patience and understanding... three times we ask for drinks? We never actually figure out who our server is, and wait interminably for soggy pizza, silverware, plates and finally the check. It was embarrassing honestly, after raving about how wonderful the place is .. but the most frustrating thing is twice to call within the advertised "8 block delivery radius" and be told that they won't deliver there. When asked what exactly their delivery zone is i get a slew of addresses with a zone like a jigsaw puzzle that is subject to change based on the availability of their delivery staff... please Arturos. I live 7 blocks away on any map and you can't bring me a pie? Too many other good pizza places in the west village for this, sorry.

Pros: if you have the time for a leisurely pizza lunch or dinner, the atmosphere is great

Cons: you need plenty of time for the slow service, delivery zone inconsistent and teensy

Kind of cramped place, but it is kind of homey and cozy, which is how you shoudl feel while eatin so, thats cool. Theres also live music, which can be loud if your sitting right next to it, but its not so bad and it goes with the whole ambience fo the place. Or waiter looked like a patron off of a bar stool in the front ( oh yes they have a full bar, always a pro) Jeans, messy hair, baseball cap, th ewhole nine, he forgot abou us like 4 times, another girl had to take our app's. The mexican guys were theones doign all of the work, ( cleanrin the tables, bringing things out,and wraping our food) we saw the waiter/bar patron guy twice, and he left us sittinghtere with our jackets on for 20 mins before comming over and asking us if we were waiting for coffee : / we then told him we wanted the bill, and he stayed close by to wait for that one. The food was delicious though, I am always very iffy abot ordering maccaroni, but it was sooooo good, we had some pizza ( yuckkkkk, very chewy-if you want good pizza go to brooklyn) but the voka sauce was out of this world!!! All in all I liked the atmosphere, loved the food but the service sucked. I almost wish i gave the mexican guy the 20$ tip.

I simply love their crispy brick oven pizza with all the toppings. Fun live jazz music and resonable priced cocktails.
Best night to go is on a Tuesday less of a wait for a table. Great staff good service even when crowded.
Fun place very retrospective part of Greenwhich Village. Arturos reminds me of how Greenwhich Village use to be years ago.

The staff was great and they had live jazz (Thursday night), so I was really excited about the food. The arugula salad with fresh Parmesan was amazing, so my excited grew even more as the pizza was on its way. I'm sorry to say, it was a big let down. It had little flavor and didn't inspire any ooh's or ah's. I've had better pizza at the little hole-in-the-wall shops on Bleecker. I won't dissuade people from going here, but I don't think it's worth the hype.

Arturo's was recommended to us by a friend. Going in we had high expcecations and not only were they met they were greatly exceeded. The food, the service and the ambience of the restaurant is incredible. The restaurant has a good neighborhood feel to it. Many of the tables near us were "regulars" with the staff asking if they wanted their regular. The food was excellent. The baked clams with bacon had actual bacon slices on them, not just diced up or fake bacon. The main courses were delicous and good sized portions. We were so full we did not have desert but I imagine that would have been great as well. Arturo's is my new favorite Italian restuarant in New York city.

I used to live in NYC and ate here any time I craved pizza. Now it's the standard by which I measure every other pizza and eat here whenver I visit NYC. Yes, the place is a somewhat seedy dive and is always crowded, but it'll never be accused of being bland. And the pizza, with it's thin, coal over perfection is exactly how I like it.

I was taken there by friends that are 'locals'. Now each time I come to NYC I insist we go to this place - it's the best pizza in town and the best pizza I know! On my last visit we managed to secure a place outside. I greatly enjoyed the people watching, thought the staff was great and the peperoni and the mushroom pizzas did not dissapoint. Didn't see John Favreau, though!

Thin, very crispy but still foldable, nice taste of char without being burnt. All in all I'd say it's was the prototype NY pizza crust. The toppings were unremarkable. All in all though a good pizza. The service was slow and the waiter definitely gave the impression that this he really hated his job. The people watching sitting outside was fine, the inside is pure old NY kitsch, and I'd eat there again - although I wouldn't make a trip to do it. Some better toppings and I might.

Arturo's has the genuine feel of old Greenwich Village, with its time worn nooks, primitive art, and staff that seems to have worked there since the 1930s. It's a lovely atmosphere, rarely found in the City these days. Unfortunately the food is not that great. Pizza crusts are a little too firm and the toppings don't seem much different from your corner pizza place. With gems such as Lil' Frankie's, Franny's, Joe's, et al., this brick oven doesn't do much for these pies. The apps are just terrible piles of cheap ingredients, oily cheese and iceberg lettuce. So come for the atmosphere only.

By far, the best pizza in the city. The crust is perfection. I have tried all the "best pizza" in the city...and none can come close to Arturo's. Any guests that visit me here in manhattan, will be having Arturo's for dinner. JUST GET A PIE...WITH EGGPLANT. You won't be disappointed.

Arturo's is a fave among locals. Tourists are often enticed by the "if its crowded, it must be good" mentality but they are overwhelmed by the transfixing atmosphere pulled straight from an early Fellini movie. The kitch paintings, dusty light fixtures and sunken-eyed staff give an "Addams Family" appeal. Free jazz too. Waiting for pizza means people watching. Matt Dillon, Mike Piazza, Ethan Hawke and other late-night pizza moshers are often seen galavanting about the bar area. Once the pizza does arrive, you are sent into culinary experience. Mid-westerners find the pizza too smoky, europeans want more cheese, but New Yorkers love its authentic coal-over flavor, crispy crust and savory sauce. (Arturo leaves chalk for people to confess their closed door antics). Complaints are met with empty stares and a feeling that you'll be thrown out to the curb. GREAT PIZZA, NY style.

This is the best local Italian place in NY.
Meet neighborhood people, hang out, hear onf of the best jazz piano players in all of NY (Harry Whitiker) and meet the friendly staff.
This is what a NY neighborhood bar is all about, which are sadly disappearing. Long Live Arturo's!

The pizza here is really great, and I even love the cheesy atmosphere (no pun intended) in the dining room, but maybe it's the presence of the heavily packed bar but I always feel as though when I go I am being gawked at as something of an outsider. The waitresses always seem to be staring me down or something - aggressive in that weird way that's neither friendly or rude, just sort of curt and unpleasant. I always end up there and enjoy my meal, but I don't know, last time I went everyone was looking at my friends and I as though we had descretaed their sacred stomping ground with our presence. And we're just two normal guys!

Arturo's is by far the most underated slice in the city. The nightly live music classes up the place, and the low prices keep me coming back for more. The service, while not terrible by any stretch, could use a little work.

Went in with high hopes, left disappointed. Atmosphere was cool(seedly feel) and the pizza was pretty good(nothing amazing). Service was very poor to non existent at times. Appetizers were horrific. One taste of the ministrone soup and it obviously came from a can. Who eats canned soup let alone serves it at their restaurant? Salad was not edible. Not touching your appetizer is apparently normal for the wait staff, they never said a thing. Advice, get a pizza to go.

Not touching your appetizer is apparently normal for the wait staff, they never said a thing. Advice, get a pizza to go.

I was looking forward to trying this pizza after reading all the rave reviews. Taste is a subjective thing, and I'm not laying down the law here, but I found the pizza to be slightly too cheesy. It was clearly good, and a cut above most NYC pizza, but a tell-tale sign was that I started to feel full after 2 and a half slices. You can bet that doesn't happen at Totonno's!

The place is crowded and a little cramped, but has a nice atmosphere.

On a recent hot late afternoon we sat outside and enjoyed a great 'regular' pizza. There were several tables outside and the service was efficient and courteous. This was our first coal-oven pizza and it was delicious: Crispy, great cheese, and just the right amount of sauce.

This place is absolutely wonderful! Old photos decorate the walls of this restaurant, and every time I've dined there, they've had a musician performing and filling the room with music. The food is hearty, flavorful and delicious. They also have delicious seafood: raw clams and steamed mussels in a savory garlic and wine sauce. Superb.

I am a pizza conasieur and this is by far the best pizza. Even if I am stuffed I will keep eating the pizza until I can't anymore. I get cravings for this unique coal oven pizza. It is really light and it is nothing like you have tasted. It simply is.....THE BEST

I went to Arturo's recently with a large party.. They did their best with seating us as fast as they could, on a busy saturday night.. Which was pretty fast! And everyone found something on the menu that that wanted... And LOVED! I had the mussels and absolutely devoured them! The garlic bread with the maranara dipping sause was yummy too! I reccomend Arturo's highly!

Pizza, cold beer, live music and pasta... what more could you ask for? The pizza is delicious and the atmosphere is something that you would expect from the olden days. Would recommend being patient because the lines can be long at this West Village/Soho staple.
