How can a restaurant name Bubby's (Jewish term for grandmother) have it's menu literally packed with bacon and pork products?? Poor Bubby is spinning in her grave. Even the over-rated freeking biscuits have bacon fat in them, for christ's

I have been brunching a Bubby's since it opened in 90'. The food is great. Both the atmosphere and the eats are consistent, cozy, comfortable. Brunch has become a bit of a scene and it can get a little crazy sometimes. There is always a line-up and tons of tourists and New York transplants. If you can stand being trampled at the bar by a loud family of six from Kansas - or getting bumped for Natalie Portman and friend - after you waited an hour for a table, then you're in for a treat. Once you are (finally) seated, you will be treated to attentive service and some of the best brunch selections in the city.

Pros: ::duh:: The Food - hello?

Cons: The crowds ::yuck::

Over the years, I have developed a typical abused spouse syndrome towards this wretched brunch place. Every time I go there and get mistreated, I leave angry, swearing never to go back. Two weeks later, I hopelessly trudge back there for another take, and again, I storm out fuming and swearing it was the last time. Well, this time I have really, really had it. No more for me. I do not even know where to begin. The worst service you can imagine magnified by ten. Last time I went there on a Saturday morning, when the place was nearly empty. My husband and I were placed in the farthest corner of the restaurant, practically INSIDE the little side room for the dirty dishes, squeezed between a constantly swinging door and a wall. 35 weeks pregnant and rather huge, I asked the host if we could have a different, more comfortable table. His response? Well you know, we try to distribute the tables more evenly. The cups are habitually dirty. Getting bottled water is an impossible task. If you lose your knife, you better learn to cut with your teeth, because you ain't getting a new one. The home-fried potatoes are so overfried and burned, I think they recycle the ones from three weeks ago. My last dish there had two thick hairs on the bottom. The waitress didn't even offer to have it replaced. The bathrooms are a health violation. Yes, they occasionally have spectacular reuben sandwiches and good bacon, but really, really, I have HAD it.

I had been wanting to go to Bubby's for brunch for some time and am so glad I finally made it! The place was packed but our group of 6 was seated within 15 minutes. The food was delicious and the portions were huge! The mimosa had fresh squeezed orange juice and the bloody mary was spicy and seasoned perfectly. The sour cream pancakes were out of this world and I would highly recommend the cheese grits as a side. Will definitely be back again soon!

We went to Bubby's for the first time, read lots of great reviews on it and always wanted to try it. The food was good, not great, but pretty good. The place was packed, we sat inside because the outside tables were taken and it was hot and humid inside, they need better ventilation. As a typical NY spot, they also pack you in there like sardines, you can't back your chair up w/o hitting the person at the table behind you!

Our breakfast was good, nice big portions, but a little overpriced if you ask me. I mean c'mon, it's only breakfast. The huevos rancheros was avg, not the best I've ever had. The fresh squeezed OJ was delicious though!

Would recommend but not if you are on a budget.

The menu has changed - it's now smaller (what happened to the chicken fried chicken!?) - but one thing hasn't changed: POOR SERVICE. Waitresses are clueless, the food takes forever to come out and the sides are always wrong. In addition, they are almost always out of atleast a couple dishes - i'm not sure who is in charge of inventory but I have never been to a restaurant that is out of food on a saturday night at 7:30.

Had a work lunch here on Thursday. Very cramped and close quarters, quite loud, and rushed service.
Brought clients because of the food. Matzah ball soup was light and fluffy, as it should be. However, all of the sandwiches were served on toasted thick sourdough. The bread not only overwhelmed the sandwich, but it was very difficult to eat, and get your mouth around. Would go for brunch, but not for lunch or dinner.

We were sat promptly for Sunday's brunch, but the problems began where most of the brunch specials were out when we got there. I ordered the special omelette but the waiter came back moments later and told me that they ran out of that as well. I had no choice but to change it to "Bubby's Breakfast". But guess what? The busboy brought out the special omelette instead of the Breakfast! The waiter was clueless.

I have to say the food was pretty good, and the "Fair Trade Coffee" as well. However, it was overpriced based on the ingredients they used in our food. It was an okay experience, but honestly, there is nothing else to rave about.

Cheese Grits every day is heaven. It's the best comfort food in the world and Bubby's makes a good one. For lunch, the Garlic burger with brie cheese is a good bet. Just don't talk to anyone for a few hours because your breath will reek. The wait staff are very nice and the dining area is airy. You can eat al fresco if you want but it is right next to a Holland tunnel exit. The portions are sizeable and definitely invite sharing. Not everything on the menu is tasty but they do make some dishes well. I have a few favorites and am a frequent customer there.

We had horrible service and had to prompt the waitress for everything from drinks, to bread to our check. The tables around us were complaining about the same thing. The food was good, but nothing to write home about.

We are in New York for a holiday and decided to try buby's as it was just roound the corner. We had brunch, I ordered a bubby's breakfast meal. The food arived within 15 minutes. The bacon was nice but a bit too fatty. The eggs and homefries were amazing! We also tried the pancakes, they were delicious at hot. The actual place was friendly but a little cramped. The bathrooms were not very nice and not accessible that easily. Overall it was a good meal but I wouldn't want to go there again as it would have been boring.

I love the brunch here - especially the biscuits and cheese grits - but you have to get there before 11am, or the wait is heinously long. Although I'm a devotee of the food, I have to agree with those who complain about the service, both in-restaurant and delivery. It's pretty shabby, with a few exceptions for some great servers that shine among those that are really sub-par.

Happy farmhouse decor, complete with groups of out-of-towner girls who think everything is one big S&theCity episode. Overpriced, food comparable to your local corner diner, and the guaranteed long wait at the door adds insult to injury. Thought I would come back after a few months to give it another try, but nothing's changed and this is the last time I'll eat here. ps: the pie is still good though

This is a great place...if you're a kid.
You can run around in this large space, yell to your hearts content and they even have a play corner with toys. But if you're an adult who cares about food, ambience and prompt service.."forghetaboudit as they say in Brooklyn. The food is so bad that we didn't even want to try the pies which I'm reading in other review is terrfic. So if you have kids..GO. This could be a wonderful place for them. Otherwise it's just coasting. Lazy management, kitchen and staff who just want to coast and make everything easy on themselves.

I came here because of a friend's recommendation. My wife and I were sooo disappointed with the brunch. Let's start with the long wait - half an hour. The table service was horrible. Our orders kept getting mixed up with the next table and our waiter barely came around to check up on us. The food was mediocre. My wife ordered the smoked salmon omelete; very salty and the home fries were burnt. I got the steak and eggs - again nothing special. The prices were just outrageous. Why were we paying high prices for dishes we can cook at home? The food was not even organic. The only saving grace was the pie we had for dessert. Hands down the best pie we ever had. Next time, we are just going to pop in and pick up a pie to go. For brunch, we are going back to our usual place.

So I heard Bubby's was THE place to have brunch in the Big Apple. So I took the subway from the Upper West Side all the way down to Hudson Street in hopes of a great experience.

I was told there was a 15-minute wait, so I went outside as their sign instructs and waited ... FOR AN HOUR!!! They kept calling other people's names who had come in after me. I finally inquired as to why they weren't seating me. They didn't have a reason and basically told me "tough luck!"

I suppose I wasn't dressed TRENDY enough for them to allow me into their restaurant. I can't think of any other reason. Too bad I'm currently writing a book about the best and worst eateries in the United States. Oh believe me, America will hear about Bubby's!

I went here for brunch with a friend. I was really excited because, I'm from the South, and I love grits, so I was definitely looking forward to one of the few opportunities New York provides to get grits. What a let-down! We had to wait forever to get in, the place was way too loud and crowded, the grits were nasty, the rest of the food was horrible, the water had stuff floating in it, and it was WAY overpriced! Don't waste your time here. Blech!!

after the first time we went there, this place became a sunday morning tradition for me and my friends for the entire summer. theres a lemonade stand outside that you can drink while waiting for a table, and you can get several flavors, including my fav, mango. also, every single time we went we saw at least one celeb sitting around us, including mena suvari and kevin connelly. loooooved it, amazing food, can have a light or heavy breakfast with the huge selection on the gigantic menu. also, there's mrs. pacman in the basement.

We headed over to Bubby's on Mother's Day for a very late breakfast. My husband ordered the original pancakes. He got mildly burned, heavy pancakes, which were mediocre at best. My son, who was in a lunch mood, ordered the garlic burger. It was ok, but nothing more. No irresistable garlic flavor, just an average burger with garlic in it. My order, the asparagus goat cheese omelet, was the biggest flop. It was bland, bland, bland. No salt, no pepper, no spices, no flavor, and the goat cheese tasted more like ricotta. Needless to say it was a disappointment. The biggest slap in the face was that it was an expensive disappointment. Each of our orders averaged about $15 a plate. More than we've ever paid for pancakes, even in the city. I don't mind paying high prices for good food, but this was not even close.

We waited for 45 mins for our weaitress to bring our drinks. She forgot about taking our order and then the people next to us received their meals before we had ordered and we had been sitting there at least an hr longer. The waitress had no idea and when i finally received my meal, it was cold. The worst service I have had in years. The other table didnt even wait for their check because she took so long, so they left!

Yes, the decor is adorable- you will feel like you stopped at a charming bed and breakfast while driving through the countryside. You will be surrounded by distressed wooden "antiques", aged glass bottles and black and white pictures of somebodys long dead relatives. But when the bill arrives and you realize you just paid $14 for two eggs, hash browns and some toast you will really wonder if it is worth it. The food is typical diner food set at astronomical prices. Two plain pancakes are about $10. I don't remember if the butter was extra. The restuarant is packed to capacity with tables so you have to be mindful of bumping elbows with your neighbors as well.

I usaly dont give a bad review but after last night it is a must. If your focus has changed from people who liked your bbq and pie that have kids to mothers and crayon toteing 3 yrs. olds who need a Salad and a happy meal you should have warned me before I sat down. I have been coming for yrs. . Please dont ever try to pass off pork that was cooked at a high temp for a shorter time as bbq again. A charred out side and a fatty fat fat inside shows it was just that. It might float with the tikes who dont know better but for your customers who used to come in once or twice a month it just doesnt float. It wasnt a total wash you still have the best potato chips in town.

Pros: fun decor, fast service

Cons: too exp, bad bbq

Have that craving for a drink? Could you use a baked good too? Want a friendly environment? Then I believe that I have the best place possible for you! Bubbys Restaurant Bar & Bakery will provide for with a wide variety of drinks, baked goods, and a great environment! I would recommend this place!

Loud, overpriced, slow - average food - nothing spectacular.
I wouldn't return -- they do have good pie, but only when haven't run out.

Pros: Pie

Cons: Food, price, service

Bubbys has the very best biscuits and jam, all home made I am told. The menu is great and is the only place that I have eaten where the food is as good as I can cook at home. Bubbys feels like home!

I Just do not understand the lemmings that try to crush into this place for a very mediocre brunch. This place is only good for B-list celeb spotting and for people with not taste buds and being deafened by screaming kids. The food is way overpriced and just not that good(apart from the amazing matzoh ball soup).

I came here to Bubby's for the first time yesterday because of a friend's glowing review. I had a great time and a great meal but found that the prices on everything were a few dollars more than most other well known brunch spots. Besides that, everything was great. Try the frittata. Stay away from the $5 hot chocolate. The wait is long but we got in quicker than anticipated.

I truly don't understand why people go to this place. In my recent brunch the waiter was rude about getting the order wrong, the omelette was bland (no salt), the home fries were extremely greasy, and the place is ugly. I'd put the food on par with a basic New Jersey diner, no better.

Food is good, staff is friendly but speed of service is too painful except for drink cocktails at the bar. If you have time for a long leisure lunch, this is the place to be.

Its so hard to find jewels in NYC like Bubbys! Great atmosphere and comfort food. You can actually have a beer and hold a conversation with somebody without having to yell. A breath of fresh air from the normal NYC bling-bling-bars.

I've tried this place to feel all that fuss for myself and I was very disappointed, 1st the food came out about an hour later and the waiter didn't even say sorry, 2nd the dessert, I mean this is the 'Pie' famous place and believe me I've tasted so much better pies from other places with less money (even at Boston Market). And if you don't like the noisy resturant then AVOID this place, you ears won't appreciated.

Bubby's is must for everyone visiting Manhattan. The variety and value of the many menu offerings is always amazing. Listen carefully to your server as he or she provides the description of the specials:the creativity is endless and the taste is always wonderful. Bubby's is best at lunch and brunch, and the bright open space provides the perfect ambiance for a relaxing meal! Try to leave room for coffee and dessert, it is well worth it!! Bubby's is a great value!

There are few truly baby/family friendly places in the downtown area, and Bubby's in one of them. Although I am not of the baby toting set, I know this kind of place meets a certain demand. Family fun aside, the brunch can stand on it's own. I love the Swedish pancakes when they show up on the special. The other breakfast staples are done adequately. I prefer the sour cream pancakes to the regular ones served with the "Big Breakfast." They seemed to always be out of the chicken apple sausage that has received so many raves. I wouldn't say Bubby's will blow you out of the water, but they provide a solid bunch served with good coffee. Not that you want dessert to wrap up a syrup topped bacon filled start to a day, but the pies and cakes are delish!

I have to admit I was excited to try out this place having never been here before and being that I don't live that far from it. What a disappointment. There were babies everywhere including on the table next to us where a parent decided it was appropriate to change a diaper. The food is way overpriced and those two biscuits they bring out before breakfast were harder than rocks. $14 00 for a frozen waffle with half a banana and a couple of strawberries strewn on top.

Run as fast as you can from this place. The service was awful, the food mediocre at best (and that was the food that actually arrived - one entree arrived a good half hour after the others). And all that after waiting well over an hour for a table. I just don't understand why it is popular.

Great food, excellent breakfast and comfort food if you are staying in the tribeca/soho area. Usual wait on weekends is about 45 minutes as its very popular with local twentysomethings, celebrity sightings are common, relaxed atmosphere, child friendly as well.

Pros: Large Menu, Relaxed Atmosphere

Visited the DUMBO location for brunch. The bad coffee was a harbinger of things to come. My entree was almost unedible, the toast tasted like cardboard & the bacon tasted like the toast, only w/a smoky cardboardy-ness to it.

The wait staff must think that I enjoy eating w/my hands b/c I had to ask for the utensils twice!

Visited the DUMBO location of Bubby's today, foolishly thinking it might be better than the Tribeca one. WRONG! They bought the same surly staff, it still took way too long for food, drink, ANY SERVICE and the food is still $ 12.95 for 2 eggs, bacon, toast & coffee. It took them 15 minutes to bring a slice of pie to go! There are so many other places to go in Brooklyn, don't bother going here.

I went to Bubby's hearing nothing but good things but was terribly disappointed. The service was disjointed, the food was sub-par (I agree with previous reviewer's comment on the biscuits), and the prices were ridiculous ($78 for three to eat breakfast!). Don't go - there are too many other great places out there.
