The Bangkok Cafe serves up some of the best thai food I have ever had. With a large menu and many daily specials I'm sure everyone can find something to enjoy.

Bangkok Cafe used to be known for its delectable entrees, such as the basil sauce (Kra Prow) and the pineapple fried rice. While those entrees are still on the menu, the food has unfortunately lost its pizzazz. This almost-hidden spot may seem enticing, but please...keep looking. Really, keep looking.

I was going to order Chinese, but sifting through the menus, decided to order Bangkok Cafe at the last minute (for the first time). Big mistake.

I called in the order for myself and a colleague ahead of time and went to pick it up. When I got back to the office and looked at my meal I was so disappointed. The portion size was small and the chicken looked bland and unappetizing. My Chicken in Peanut Sauce was supposed to be a ?hot & spicy? selection, but it tasted just how it looked.

I would venture to say that they got some chunky peanut butter, mixed it with water and threw it on the dry, tasteless chicken breast strips. I was so disappointed but found a soy sauce packet and put it on the chicken for flavor. I was hungry, had already paid for it, and so I gobbled it down.

My colleague had ordered the Panang Curry Chicken which was also bland and unappetizing both visually and in taste. Another ?hot & spicy selection,? which was far from that.

Not too long after eating the meal, I noticed an empty feeling in my stomach. As time went by I started to feel the unmistaken symptoms I have after consuming food with MSG. My colleague also complained of the same symptoms.

By the night, I had a full-blown migraine headache and my boy felt like a mess. I couldn?t sleep. When I got up in the morning, I felt weak and queasy. I got to work and discussed it with my colleague and she told me she had thrown up that night! For me, my symptom subsided by late morning.

I had to take the time to write this review. This is my first, but I was disappointed by the fact that the food was just utterly tasteless and a waste of money, but on top of that, it made me and my colleague sick!

I don?t recommend this place, or at least these dishes: Panang Curry Chicken & Chicken in Peanut Sauce.

I had the basil shrimp w/noodles, my friend had Panaang Vegetables and the veggie rolls--which were SUPER tasty. But the best part is the care our waitress took with our order, making sure the pan. vegetables only came w/the vegetables my friend wanted. SO nice and very rare in NYC! Recommended for lunch! Great deal on 3-course lunch special, $10.95 I believe....

Pros: great service, good food, convenient location

Cons: ambience lacking

The prix fixe dinners @ $15.95/ person are a good deal: appetizer, soup, salad, entree & dessert. The pad thai is one of their best dishes. Although, i wouldn't recommend the Pad See Ew- burnt and dry. The fried banana dessert was delicious! The service was very attentive and polite.
