Cavo Cafe Lounge & Garden is the perfect place for a romantic dinner or late-night lounge experience. With a plush, bi-level dining room, adjacent lounge, and 4,000 sq ft garden that's vibrant with waterfalls and flowers, guests feel like they've been transported out of New York City. The menu is particularly captivating with modernized interpretations of Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. A great after-hours scene with well-known DJs, live music, and other various events throughout the week entertain the neighborhood's young and glamorous. A great place to book private events as well.

In Short
Red satin decor and an outdoor garden complete with sparkling fountain create a debonair atmosphere; whether Eurostyle or Eurotrash depends on how many chocolate martinis are being served at the moment. Locals are rightfully proud of this gracious oasis of continental chic, and likewise guarded against the invasion of gentrification. With the spirit that won the Trojan War, servers will risk rude service if presented with sojourners who don't behave as visitors to someone's home.

Key Points

  • Outdoor Dining
  • Lounge/Open Late Night
  • Private Events

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - The kitchen closes at 2am.
  2. The Extras - Call the lounge for a schedule of live music, from classic Greek performances to DJs to Spanish guitar.

Cavo is too much fun!

by Jaimie B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,321

Fun time. Lots of different areas including a large outdoor patio.

Hard time getting right up to the bar b/c the predominantly Euro crowd tends to linger around well after they've ordered and began drinking their cocktails. Drinks are around $10 a piece.

Absolutely beautiful and great music!

Great Patio

by Anonymous

If you want to feel like you're on the Greek coast, go right to Astoria to Cavo Lounge. The outside Patio is great in the warm weather. Food is OK but the atmosphere is what draws me back time and time again. The drinks are reasonably priced and they do offer bottle service.

Great atmosphere, Delicious Greek food

by Alison H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,567

Cavo is a very European-esque lounge. You will be surprised by the enormity of it. The place is decorated beautifully and you will see lots of beautiful Greeks. I'd reccomend the food, even though its a little pricy

Great Ambiance & Music

by sweetncute

Definately one of the most chic club/lounges in Astoria.
Why go to the city, when Cavo is right here in Queens. Its spacious and there is always fast service for food or liqour. I've been going there for 2 years. The new DJ there is one of the bests. He really know how to spin for the crowd everything from techno, to pop, to reggae. The place during the day is also a great restaurant. You get a good deal of stuff for the price.

Pros: no admission fee, no hassle on line, fast bar service

Cons: none really

A great place

by Represent0the0ppl

Love it! I've been there many times (and for many birthdays - including mine! ) Great food (a bit pricey for the quality... but still good food), great drinks, great atmosphere. I love it!!! I am a regular there for sure!!! (Only that they don't know my name, but that's fine lol) Great for dancing, and parties!

Pros: Nice ambiance, great for groups

Cons: Service is not at its best and the food is a little too $$$$

Best place ever

by ABrion

This place is truly great and a lot of fun. Food is delicious, service warm, people are great to look at and always seem energised. My friends and myself love to go to Cavo. It is our favorite place. Fridays and Saturdays, the party is off the hook in terms of music, crowd and energy level. There is always something going on, it's so cool. The garden is just unbelievable. You feel the energy right away, as soon as you walk into this place. Definitely go if you want to hang out along a stylish European crowd, sip on great drinks, listen to great music and just enjoy yourself. Everyone has a fabulous time there. Highly regarded and appreciated by a cool, fun and great looking crowd.

Pros: music, food, drinks, garden, people, decor, space

Cons: none

Not Worth It, Don't Bother Going

by wilowetree

Was there with a group of 8. We were seated by an oven which brought a wiff of burned bread throughout the night. Half of us didn't get waited on unless we got up and asked for our waiter, we were completely ignored by other waiters. The food was too expensive for what it was (mediocre would be an overstatement) and the drinks are $9.00 or more and not that strong (possibly watered down). The staff walks around like "a chicken without a head" , the service was veeeerrrryyyy slow. Save your time and money, go somewhere else. I only gave it one stars because half of hour party was being attended.

Pros: Can't Think Of Any

Cons: Where do I begin

Avoid this place.

by gvdldbwp

We tried to get a reservation five days in advance. They said they wouldn't take a reservation, but we should just come in and they would get us set up as a walk-in. Our party of nine was present and ready to be seated at 9:00. The host, a smug bald guy with a shirt and tie that didn't match, told us our table would be ready in 20-30 minutes. We were seated over two hours later, at 11:15, over my protests that we should just split, get some quarter pounders, and find a bar that doesn't charge $12 for a mediocre cocktail. This, mind you, was after the server spilled a tray of food on the birthday girl. Once we had finally been seated, a friend of ours who was planning on meeting us after dinner for drinks showed up and was turned away at the door for wearing sneakers. Plain, black sneakers. The aforementioned host tried to talk the bouncer into letting him in, but it was no use. Apparently the bouncers operate independently of supervision and control. All in all, we got nothing but lies and attitude all night from everyone we came into contact with, except the server who spilled the food. She was really sweet. They should make her the manager/bouncer supervisor. I wouldn't go back to this place for anything. It's an offense to Greek hospitality.

Pros: Example: best croissants in town

Cons: What are the drawbacks?

I love this place!

by GeorgeK

I don't know what the person below is so upset about. Being Greek myself, I can say exactly the opposite. Cavo has always had a healthy amount of Greek and also international clientele. I go there all the time and so do many people I know. It is still the place to be in Astoria and everyone knows that. I can safely bring my friends from Manhattan or business contacts there and be sure that they will have a great time, or just party with my Astorian friends. It is a very successful combination of classy restaurant and hot club. You can have a great dinner and then stay and party all night long at the bar or for bottle service. Every popular place has a door policy and long lines. I don't find Cavo's excessively strict. In fact, I was there this Saturday and had a great time. The music was great, it was packed and the party was going on and on. The bartenders are fun and friendly. There was some guy in the crowd(not Greek), that was a trouble maker, but other than that it was great. I can't wait until the garden opens too.

Pros: Hot decor and garden, great food, beautiful crowd, fun

Cons: They let in uncool trouble makers sometimes

Fame has gotten to the owners' heads

by jarules

This place used to be frequented by Greeks such as myself back when it was a single storefront. Now that it is widely successful and 5 times the size, the people who run the place ignore the Greeks who made it a success. So, on any given Saturday night, if you don't have a female handy, or god forbid, are a single male, the knuckleheads at the door won't let you in.. Sadly pathetic..What is true though is that Greeks don't look out for each other and would throw their own under the bus without blinking. Thanks for nothing guys!

Pros: Nice ambience, done-up ladies

Cons: Meatheads at the door

what kind of place is this?!?!?

by Susie28g

I just called to make reservations for 9 people at 630pm on a saturday. The girl on the other side of the phone said "we don't take reservations for more that 8 people for saturdays". I said well make it for 8 and she put me on hold. She came back and said, I can make it at 6pm for 8, I asked why 6 and not 630pm, her answer was well there's large reservations for 7pm, I asked, more than 8 people? and she said YES.
Then she tried fixing it, but it was too late.
I will post a VERY bad review in every website I can think off!!!

Pros: nothing

Cons: horrible people working there!!

We give it a thumbs up

by dantheman55

We went to Cavo last night with a group of 12 people. We thought we were only coming for a quick dinner and drinks. When we arrived it was seemingly empty, but little by little it filled up. The wait staff was quick and exchanged my friends meal with no questions asked. The food is great. We all shared our dishes and had plenty to go around. Before we knew it, it was midnight and the music was pumping. We were shocked at how great the music was and even more shocked to find a girl DJ playing the music. About 8 of us stayed until closing time just so we could drink more and dance. I know we will all go back for sure. The place looks like a resturant but in actuality its a discotech far better than any Manhattan spot.

Pros: DJ Music, food

Cons: .

The WORST night in my life!!!

by newyork08

My first and last time visiting CAVO, i was in CAVO last night, with two of my friends, we decided to get some drinks at the bar, we waited for 30minutes trying to tell the bartender what we wanted to order. The batender was ignoring me and my friends, after getting mad and telling the bartender to get us our order, the bartender told me to RelaX and to calm down. There is no customer service in that place.... Who ever is planing to visit CAVO please make sure to DON'T wear any sandals or slippers it will be to dangerous; After been in cavo for 2 hours, i started dancing with my friends, and while dancing i had to stopped and live the place right away, my friends had to call an ambulance my foot couldn't stop bleeding, i cutted my foot with a glass from a cup that was on cavo's floor. How dangerous is that. The ambulance took me to the hospital, and i had to get 20 snitches in my foot. How fun is it?... after planning a fun night with my friends, i had to end up at the hospital, and also not been able to walk normally for 2 1/2 weeks or more... Thanks to CAVO... !!!.. i will NEVER go back to cavo. ......

Pros: BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Cons: DANGEROUS FLOORS!!!

Great place! Saturdays are crazy!

by eurochamp

Best scene in NY, been to many trendy spots in Manhattan but Cavo seems like another world. Feels like your on european vacation. The crowd is good looking and ambience is stunning! Although, after parking my car, I entered the restaurant and had no idea that it was breathtaking, I thought it was an average size restaurant with a garden but it's not! Its big, and a garden thats perfect for a romantic dinner! Food was delicious, the filet sole was great and chocolate cake was unbelievable! Service was extremely friendly. Actually thinking about doing my husband's birthday party there next month.......Cavo is really nice change from the ordinary!

Pros: great food , friendly staff

Cons: too busy on saturdays, long lines

I have just moved to Astoria from the city and I have already been to CAVO many times. People carry themselves very well and in the classy European way; That what makes the place nice. Beautiful men all put together... love that. Nice service and staff.

Absolutely gorgeous!! The ambiance and service was amazing. Went there for dinner and was seated in the garden with my friends which was breathtaking. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, the short ribs of beef with the creamy polenta just melted in your mouth and for main course I had the red snapper which was the fish of the day......delicious!!! For the chocolate lovers you should definetely try their warm chocolate cake. Cant wait to go back.

Best Date Place

by astoriabella

After working late 3 wks in a row, my boyfriend took me out for a nice late-night dinner at Cavo. Not only was the food amazing but the staff doted on us as though they knew I had a rough few weeks. Great food, amazing wine selection, and the live flamenco dancers provided stunning entertainment on a Thursday night. Overall highly recommended.

Go for the Resturant, and be VERY impressed

by lia_citygal

The first time I went to Cavo was for my cousin's birthday party a few months ago. We got there around 9 on a Friday night and spent a couple of hours in the front bar drinking, ordering small plates and talking. There was a group of 15 or so of us (of course only 10 of us stuck around for the check...aren't birthday's grand?), but we'd all had 2 or 3 drinks and several plates to share and with tip the bill was around $50 a person. For the atmosphere, the time we spent there and what we got I thought that was VERY fair. I just moved from the Upper West Side to Astoria and I would put this on par with Evelyn Lounge for price, atmosphere, and crowd.

If the owners are trying to make it FEEL like you are in Manhattan, don't be surprised by Manhattan-ish prices. That's a good rule for any place you venture into.

If you want a good price, go to one of the neighborhood bars--I ordered a Bailey's on the rocks, Whiskey and diet coke, and a soda at a place down the street from Cavo and my total was $8. I was also standing next to a mullet. You get what you pay for.

The second time I went to Cavo I went just for dinner, and was blown away. The food was fantastic, and it was a greek/mediterrian/nuevo american fusion experience. The owner came by our table twice and made the best recommendation of the night--get the small plate of shrip. In fact, get two. Outstanding. We were a party of 6 and we ordered 9 small plates (almost everyone on the menu). Everything was delicious. We were there on a Saturday and left around 11. No smoke, no noise, no problems.

There was a line of people at the door waiting to get in when we left, and I could tell that it was starting to become more of a 'club' at that time of night--NOT MY SCENE. But dinner, before 10:30, was great and I would recommend it to anyone. The Host was a little obnoxious (I think the decor fooled him and he thoguht he WAS a Manhattan somebody), but otherwise I had a great time.

Pros: The small plates--THE SHRIMP

Cons: The high strung maitre d

Way overpriced

by jojipo

My friend and I ventured out to explore the bar scene in Queens. We heard good things about this bar. But I don't think we will ever go there again. The drinks we bought at the bar were $13 each! Bartenders were unfriendly and arrogant. There was nowhere to sit at the bar. The crowd was horrible: a bunch of euro trash men with hairy chests and gold chains. On the upside, the interior of the adjacent restaurant is very nice and they have a lovely outdoor seating. But for these prices I can go to any nice bar in Manhattan.

Pros: nice interior of the restaurant, lots of men at the bar

Cons: overpriced drinks, men at the bar are not particularly refined

great cafe area, friendly staff

by Nursinggirl08

This place is very nice if you are sitting in the cafe, the music varies. The main dancing room - drinks are overpriced.. a shot is $ 9 this is not the city, its too dark inside, but the crowd was nice and no one was smoking inside..there is a separate outside room for the smokers. I might come here again on a different occasion.

you have to wear a gas mask because of the smoke

by vinyasababy

Where are the city inspectors. The place was chockful of smokers. When mentioned about the smoking to the staff their attitude was if you don't lke it leave.. They did not give a damn. They should give a damn when there drink and food prices are what they are.High. It was very crowded, could not dance. Maybe in the summer when the back garden is open it's better. You would not catch me in this place. You would have to be desperate to go there.

Pros: could not think of any pros

Cons: lots of smoke, long line&wait to get in,snobs

Go there to be seen, not to eat

by Annoula

Yes, it's overpriced and people are overdressed, but it's a fun place to hang out with friends, especially in the outdoor garden in spring/summer. Food is really tasty, but appetizer portions are small and the prices are generally WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. I recommend going for drinks and/or desserts for a cheaper option, but if you do go for dinner, make sure to try the following appetizers: meatballs and souvlakia, and the following main dish: thalassomakaronada (spaghetti with various shellfish in a tasty tomato sauce). Stay away from the kavourokeftedes (crab cakes) appetizer because it's really not worth it. The staff is nice, and valet parking is directly across the street.

Pros: people watching, outdoor garden

Cons: loud music

Mediocre at best

by globetrotter33

Started off by being seated 45 minutes late due to a "training" issue. Reservations were made 1 month in advance. The seafood was not fresh and tasted like it sat out for a few hours and then re-heated. On top of everything it had no taste. The steak was mediocre and too fatty. The only highlight is the fancy decor and outdoor garden area. I would not recommend for anyone to dine here. Have a late night drink and AVOID the food.

Pros: the atmosphere

Cons: FOOD

Me my brother and 3 of my cousins and some friends went for my cousins 28th birthday. The place was BEAUTIFUL inside. No cover at the door. 3 rooms. We were in the back and outside room the whole time. Appetizers were great (mozzarella salad, lobster rolls, shrimp, dip) and the drinks were good. The birthday boy was gettin really strong drinks and they didnt even know it was his birthday (weird).. Music is amazing..A lot of good club music, greek, and a little arabic. People are goodlooking..dress to impress. Lots of areas to sit...No dance floor..but u can dance wherever u want..waiters buspeople hostess were all very nice.

Wonderful

by pupsik

Cavo has a "city" feel to it in the decor and prices, but it's worth it. The ambiance is incredible, the food is great and the drinks are delicious. In the summer the outside area is gorgeous!!! I have taken a lot of my friends there and everyone loves it. The people there might be stuck up but they are nice to look at. The crowd is varied - mid-20s to late 40s. The only bad thing about the place is the wait outside - on weekends the line is crazy, but I still highly recommend it!

I agree with previous reviews in that the majority of people there are much more interested in the way they look that in the venue itself. Beautiful decor, nice open spaces, was larger than I expected and has a nice outdoor garden. Worth checking out for the decor, not so much for the people that frequent this location.

Who said you have to go to Manhattan to have a good time. Cavo is a BEAUTIFUL, contemporary space in the heart of Astoria. It was georgous when it opened, but they keep adding and changing the space to keep it fresh and clean looking. Staff could be a little more outgoing. They tend to be shy when talking to customers. But this is a GEM!
