Management nasty rude and condescending. Especially Joyce. Sent my two daughters 19 and 14. Made their appts for them was told how much it would be. They were nasty to them and TOTALLY took advantage. Charged my one daughter over $300 for a few highlights and haircut. I called while they were there and joyce was rude even to me. If she thinks what we got was a full head of highlights she is in wrong business. Paid for other child to get haircut and deep condition..guess what..Just a wash, no condition. Spent about $400 for garbage. I am so angry and will never recommend or go back. You can go anywhere else for better job at fraction of price. Shame that's the people in charge..no customer service skills at all. Sorry my daughters had to experience that!

My husband and I came here for haircuts and a facial-overpriced ones at that. Before any service, my husband settled the bill with generous tips for the staff members that served us. After we got our haircust, I was waiting in the siting area for my husband while he got his facial. Out of boredom I was trying some of the used and opened make-up they had out, thinking they were testers. Michelle, the stylist went over to the receptionist (the old lady with the man's haircut to whisper something). (Mind you, Michelle is the stylist we just patronized.) The receptionist then came over to me and said "this make-up is for our paying customers". Then she looked it over and continued "Look, a few pieces are missing...did you take any?"
What?!?!? Did you just accuse me of stealing used, drug store brand make-up from you after I just paid so much for a service? And what do you mean by "paying customer?" Didnt my husband just pay a couple hundred dolalrs for haircuts and a facial?
Wow!
Management needs to really invest in some manners for these people. You don't treat people that way. You don't offend and insult them like that. One day they will insult the wrong person and it won't end well. lastly, not everyone's life is that narrow and small that they would steal used make-up. If the receptionist's life is that small, then that is pretty sad...
And, no, the haircuts were not that good. Michelle must have been in a pissy mood that day.
Never again!

My experience at Maximus was amazing! First off, I had Rosemary--who is world class in herself-she has an amazing personality, amazing sense of style and is THE most experienced there. Her resume has much to say and her work is pristine. I was treated very well. Her assistant Raquel is also a sweetheart. If you are going to go to maximus, I highly recommend Rosemary. She listens, she knows how to style and what looks right. I have been to many salons, yes they all have their politics and I am sure this one does as well. However, there are a few excellent staff member there and you should take the time to experience their masterful touches.

I loved Maximus in the Source Mall. It had a very professional and upscale feel. It's not quite the same since they moved. Morale of staff not the same either, although they're still pretty damn snobby. They skimped on the decor and they're pretending less is chic. I felt like I was getting my hair cut in a warehouse, and the place is not inviting for spa treatments. Will try Merrick location for haircuts, it is smaller though not sure if they have a spa there. Still like the ability of the stylists, just don't like the new weird location. One thing I can say is I've always been able to trust Maximus for a hair cut that didn't make me cry, so I'm kind of bummed they moved and hope it doesn't do them in. I'd suggest they stop treating customers like they're doing us a favor by not calling the fashion police on us if we're not gay, all dressed in black, or anorexic. Your salon looks like Costco; you lost your snob cred; stop being such salon bullies!

I AM WARNING PEOPLE TO STAY AWAY FROM MAXIMUS SPA IN WESTBURY LONG ISLAND! Never have i ever had such a horrible experience in my life. The woman who did my wax was in such a rush that she did not even complete the job. I had to complain and ask to speak to a manager before, finally getting another technician to finish the job. The first tech that I had burned me, and complained the entire time that my hair was to thick and she would not be able to get to everything.

I travel pretty far to make my routinely visits to Maximus. I get my hair colored by Kim and cut by Glendy. I've never met anyone more generous and professional with their trade. I don't say much when I sit in the chair. I leave it up to the ladies to beautify me. The best thing is that they know exactly what to do before I even say hello!

They recently moved out of their location into a brand new spot only a block from where they were. WOW!! What a state of the art establishment! Its super funky, exactly what a five star salon should look like.

They have this new section called the "Spa Bar" or "Face Bar" where you sit out in the open and an esthetician gives you a mini facial to clean you up! I was impressed to see men being serviced at the "bar."

Anyways, I only wish there were more locations close to me. There's a lot more I'd like to experience during my next visit especially in the spa!

I was just reading all the reviews about Maximus Spa Salon...and I came across someone leaving such a mean review about my stylist Fran...I cannot even believe what I read. She has been doing my hair for a long time and honestly she has always gone above and beyond to assure that I not only look good but feel great.. I can't believe someone would dishonor someone like her and the company she works for. I m so happy everytime I go there, it's a little pricy but absolutely worth it.. I feel amazing after I see her I would follow her anywhere!!

I went in to get my hair baliaged/balayaged at the Maximus in the Source Mall in Westbury, NY. Baliage is the french hair painting treatment that celebrities get (like Gisele) that gives them a sun-kissed blondeish hair color that when grown out at the roots, it still looks fabulous (google it). Anyway, I was provided with a colorist by the name of Nikki. I told her that I wanted to go from brunette to blonde with the baliage hair coloring technique and then showed her the pictures I brought in of Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Aniston, and Gisele Bunchden. She told me that she did not think I could achieve becoming blonde and that she needed to do a strand test. After the strand test, she told me that she was surprised and that I can go any color I want. I told her to baliage me and get me the lightest blonde that would complement my skin tone. Since there are no mirrors in the color dept. I could not see what was going on. I felt her putting plastic on my hair and doing it like highlights. She then put me under a dryer, which is not needed with baliage. She then told me that it would cost and additional $35 to blow out my curly hair after she washed it. I was already paying $150 and needed to give her a decent tip so I declined paying the additional $35. When the wash was done, I went to the mirror and my hair seemed the same color! She told me that when I blow it out at home, it'll look great and that I'll see the color. I went home and blew my hair out and realized that she did a half head of red highlights! Everyone at work the next day that were expecting me to come in blonde, said it looked horrible! I called Nikki and told her and she tried to act oblivious and said that my hair didn't take. I scheduled a color correction/re-do with Eddie. I went in and he told me that I was unrealistic and that I cannot have Baliage done. He said that it would jeopardize the condition of my hair. He said that down the line I could be blonde but it would be way in the future after being dedicated and coming in for highlights every 4 weeks. He made me sign a waiver stating that I understood what he explained about haircolor and how it affects the hair. He then told me that he will do highlights all over that will make my hair look baliaged. Well, he only put blonde highlights underneath and toned the red highlights on top. My hair now has red highlights on top and blonde highlights on the bottom with mostly brunette hair all over. This is not what I wanted! I payed for something I never got. I am going to complain to corporate. I am very unhappy. I thought going to a trendy salon would be a great choice for a trendy hair treatment. I was so wrong. All they have is a fancy name and location.

So I went to this spa for spa week - for a facial, massage, spa manicure and pedicure.

Facial was actually very good, my face felt smooth and was radiant after the facial. Great products. It was a standard good facial. This was the first service I received and I thought that I would be in for a great day of pampering. Sadly, I was mistaken.

Massage. I would not even call if it a massage. It was basically just a woman that rubbed(not even massaged) bengay on my whole body. There was no pressure. I could have saved myself the money and just gone to CVS, got bengay and put it all over my body, arms, shoulders, legs because this is all the massage was. A bengay application. Was not impressed. Overall very dissatisfied with the massage.

Spa manicure and pedicure. Nothing special here either. There were two standard massage chairs. I wanted to turn one on since the massage I received was inadequate. However, the massage chair did not work - it did nothing more than shake the chair and almost all the buttons were not working. The woman doing my manicure cut my cuticle and it started bleeding.

Also, I almost forgot, the robes that they give you to change into are like the brillo on the back of sponges. Very scratchy - not luxurious. The changing room also lacks any privacy and definitely need upgrading.

This is not a rant on the people that work there as they are all very nice and accommodating. The services they provide are lacking.

I've been to maximus at least 6 times - I'm not sure why I keep going back. Appointments are at least 30 minutes behind schedule each time I go. The desk staff are rude - often gossiping amongst themselves as opposed to helping customers waiting at the counter.

I've had my hair done at some pretty well established salons in Chicago, Manhattan and Boston from highly experienced stylists with way less attitude.

Overall, the haircuts are fine - but putting up with the long waits, and rude desk service is vexing.

I have been to the Maximus Day Spa in Westbury twice, going the second time was a grave experience. The first time i went was for a makeup application for a christmas party which I attended. The application was a nightmare. Most places now use airbrush to apply the finishing touches and to cover up any flaws. I could've done a better job myself. The makeup just didn't go with my complexion and didn't cover up a couple of acne scars that I did have and i peeled. I saw it in my photographs. The second time I went was yesterday, first when I walked in it looked liked a factory, people everywhere; people being serviced and people waiting to be serviced.
I was there for a brazilian which I have had done before at the Red Door Spa in Garden City (Meghan is AMAZING!!!! go and see her). I swear if the Maximus day spa was my first experience, I would NEVER have another brazilian done in my life ever again!!! The technique the woman used was so old-school. She used the paper and the wax ( you know when you get your eyebrows waxed and they use the strip). The pain was EXCRUCIATING!! I almost asked her to stop because it was too much. Many salons have moved away from that because of the level of pain, Nowadays there is a special wax they use and believe me, you don't feel it. She also burned me with the wax and I have a scar to prove it. I was so livid but I still paid 40 dollars for the service. She seemed like she didn't know what to do with me. Not only that, she did not remove ALL the hair. A true technician will ask you if you want everything off. Besides that all she did was complain, saying the hair was coarse (which was highly unprofessional) and telling me not to shave and to have brazilian waxes done . Maximus does not have the experience to deal with African-American clients. I was told by many people not to go there but I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt. I should've listened.
EVERYONE GO TO RED DOOR SPA!! THE BEST!!

It took me many years of going from salon to salon trying to find someone who could cut my hair the way I wanted them to! Many stylists have tried but no one took the time to listen to my concerns. One of my friends recommended Rosemary from Maximus and she sat down with me and we talked about the type of hair that I had and what would look best on me. Two years later, I am still happily going back to see her. In my opinion she is the best that Maximus has to offer!

My husband treated me to a massage and facial here. The receptionist was so rude that I wanted to leave before I even got into the spa. The place was dirty and the staff was horrible. I couldn't wait for the day to be over. I felt so bad because my husband paid alot of money and it was such a waste. I would never go there again.

I went to Fran at Maximus for an expensive haircut. She was rude, arrogant and cut my hair a good 3 inches more than I asked, plus left me with wispy uneven layers that look terrible. Worst haircut I ever got. When I initially told her I just wanted a trim, she claimed to be the "hair whisperer" and always knows best so ended up doing what she wanted. I didn't see what happened until it was blown out (badly and quickly).
However, Vanessa was great for color. She's obviously skilled, listens to what you want and is very nice. So I'll continue with Maximus for color, and go elswhere for cuts and styling! After the disaster with Fran, I wouldn't try any other stylists there either, as she's been there 10 years so I guess they like her type, wouldn't risk it.

I went there this past Tuesday for spa services. My sister got a facial and I got a hot stone massage. For $110 for the massage and $100 for my sister's facial, the salon is certainly lacking the quality of a spa environment. The changing room is a locker room (literally) and there was one chair for both of us to use to sit while we changed. We both had appts at 6:30 pm and the salon was open unil 9pm. Howver the attendents kept running in and out of the small locker room trying to rush us to our appts (we were not late and there was one other person receiving a service). There was absolutely no privacy and they instructed us to put a robe that was located near the showers and appeared to have been used.

I've had spa services in Manhattan, Boca Raton, Scottsdale, Phoenix, Dana Point, Santorini, Greece, so I guess you can say i'm a abit of a spa snob. But if you're going to have the audacity to charge $110 for a 50 minute hot stone massage in Long Island, please ensure that you have the right "sshhhhhh...stuff" to back it up. The woman immediately put what felt like an old and rough towel on my back and then placed rocks on top of the towel. I've had this procedure before .. typically you put some oils and massage the back area before dropping a towel with rocks on it. Also, the rocks are usually warm and placed directly on the skin (as in the visual poster placed all over the salon). It felt like she was pouring gallons of oil on my body that I could feel it dripping off of me. The massage was not relaxing and I lay there counting the minutes until it was over. Which came sooner than later because she informed me that while I was getting the massage someone came in and signaled her to finish bc my sisters services was ending. Well that was BALONEY bc when I finished (in about 40 minutes) my sister was still in her service.

Save your money on Maxi-Not and go to a real spa!!

I went to Maximus Salon in Westbury even though I am not from NY.I had always been told from people who had visited NY that it was the place for the latest fashions and hairstyles. So why wouldnt I trust my hair to high priced professionals.Oh boy am I ever going to regret doing it again.First off it was my 30th birthday and I had never been to NY.I had had my hair done professionally several months before in my hometown for my wedding.IT TURNED OUT FABULOUS.Well needless to say I didnt get the same results from this place.First I thought it was cool because there were so many people in this place and it had to be good.I was taken in immediately but ended up sitting in there for 6 hrs.I told the hairdresser I didnt want anything ash or with red tones because I had red tint in my hair cause I am Irish and had had past bad experiences with those colors in my hair.Well she picked a honey color and I also wanted bold blonde chunks to accent the color.Since I already had blonde hi-lights before I figured it wouldnt be that hard to color them out after the honey color was done.Well the end result was really red hair, blonde streaks and one mad Irish woman.I asked the girl who was cutting my hair to ask the girl who had colored it to come over and see what she had done since I never got to see it until I sat down to get the cut.I was pretty much told I didnt know what I was talking about and that there were no red tones in my hair.I disagreed but since I was tired and hungry from sitting there for 6 hrs I just decided to go ahead and agree with what she was telling me.I have to say I am satisfied with my cut but my color is soooo wrong in sooo many ways.Even when my husband and my son both tell me my hair was red I knew she had lied to me and just wanted me gone.Well dear you have gotten your wish I am not stupid twice. Now my hair only after 3 washes with professional salon hair care shampoo and conditionor is sandy blonde with gold streaks.I have had my hair done before by professionals and was never as disatisfied as I am with this place. So from now on I think I will stick with my salon in my hometown and pay waaaaay less for better results. Also I would never have to wait 6 hrs and be insulted by someone who's IQ is lower than her bra size.

I was so excited for my spa day at maximus Westbury...but was totally disappointed. Below is a list of a few of my observations/experiences:- The atmosphere was at best run down and dingy. There was a huge brown water stain in the drop ceiling of the massage room. The chair covers in the waiting room were basically falling off. The treatment rooms were so small that every noise from the extremely loud hallway was heard in the rooms. It made it hard to relax. And lastly there was ONE bathroom in the tiny "locker room." There was always a line. - The massage I would have to say was enjoyable...if you could get over the atmosphere. - The water journey I was so looking forward to was rushed and done with very little care. - And lastly the person doing my facial spent the hour telling me all about the few products she wanted me to buy. I was not even allowed to relax because the entire time I had to listen to how clogged my pores were and how she had the perfect thing for me. The tactic of putting the client down to make them feel awful about their skin and buy what the spa is pushing did not work. - The facial was sub-par and my skin is not nearly as clean as it usually is after a facial. I think if a focus was put on the actual facial and not pushing products the results would be better. I wish I could say it was as wonderful as I was expecting. But it was the worst spa I have ever been to. I am not anticipating getting another gift certificate there...but if I ever do, I will ask for my money back. I have had more relaxing experiences driving in traffic to work in the morning.

I had been going to Maximus for years until they jacked up their prices without mentioning it to their customers. They are charging now for the dye and everything...$200 for half a head of highlights with tip. Maybe I could justify it if my hair came out nice but it came out orange. They've got some nerve ....I'm never walking back into that salon.

I had a partial low-light by Vanessa yesterday and it turned out really good. She was very nice, and the guy, Eddie, that washed my hair and put in a conditioning treatment gave me a great scalp massage. I would have to say that I thought that $150 for low-lights is a little expensive, not to mention the extra money I would've spent if I'd bought the shampoo and conditioner they recommended ($50 total). For me, it was worth it because the color looks great, but I don't know if I could do that every 6-8 weeks.

I have always been impressed by the staff at Maximus, they are not snotty or full of themselves, they treat all their customers well. The services are great as well. I love the spa at the Westbury location.

I've been going here for almost 2 years...I've been going to Fran for my cut and Vanessa for my color and I have never been let down. Fran is the only person that is allowed to touch my hair. I've tried other places in the city and no one can beat this Long Island salon. Yes, I said Long Island. It's always been a nice experience here, and everyone LOVES my hair.

Maximus is quite possibly one of Long Island's best full service salons. They offer hair styling, cut, color and other salon services like waxing, massage and makeup consulting.

I go out of my way to visit Maximus. I travel all the way from East Northport to Westbury to have my hair done here. Kathryn does the cut and Jessica does the color. When all is said and done, I'm out $150 but its totally worth it.

How many hairstylists would YOU trust to just sit in the chair and say "do what you think would look good"?? But Kathryn is truly gifted and I always walk out of Maximus feeling like I got the star treatment!!

PROS: Talented and professional beauticians
CONS: very expensive

This places caters mostly to women but men do get their hair cut here as well. They are great. very professional. the place is immaculate and the clientele is so friendly. It is located right in the Fortunoff mall. It isn't that expensive compared to other salons- you get what you pay for in my experience.

A definite splurge but so worth it! This place is located in the Fortunoff Source Mall. It was the only place I considered going when I decided to highlight my hair. There are several colorists. once a color is picked they put everything into the computer so they know for the next visit. The stylists who cut your hair are wonderful. A definite difference from this place and one of those chain haircutting places.
