the sushi was delisicous, you can tell it was prepared on the spot- it even felt like they may have had an aquarium on site! the meal took a little while to arrive, but i still would reccomend this place to a family memeber or friend!

Been a regular customer since this spot opened and this place only gets busier and busier.

With good turnover, the quality of the sushi is always fresh and tasty. I frequently come here because of the friendly service and comfortable

I've been to Kyoto several times with my girlfriend and never really had a bad incident. Their food is delicious! The place is pretty popular and it does get busy, therefore service can't always be excellent, but I definitely have seen better waitstaffs elsewhere, so there IS room for improvement. OTherwise they have a really nice staff, great food, Excellent sushi and a nice place to take a date. Make a reservation...

I've been there 3 times now, and everytime i went there i always get bad experience. I first went there with a bunch of friends on a thursday night. A waiter served us, we just sit for not even a minute, he asked if we r ready or not, when the food comes, he didn't even give us spoon or fork for the fried rice we order, everytime we asked for something, if he remember to give it to us, he gave it with unpleasant face, we have to constantly ask to refill our water, he didn't bother to ask if everything was ok or no, but at the end, when we decided not to tip him, coz he didn't deserved it, he asked us where is his tip! Unbelivable!! The ass manager saw that, came to us and ask was everything ok, so i said that the service was very very bad.
The second time was on a Monday ,my coworker took me here again for a business lunch, this time i'm not complaining about the service, the waitress was very nice and gave us a good service. We were just enjoying our food when there's a bunch of group came and sit at one of the big booth they have, but Gosh they are so noisy, they are screaming and laughing so hard, even the other tables were complaining that they are too loud,i can't even hear what my coworker said to me, so i made complain to the waitress and one of the hostess and they said they're gonna find the manager to talk to that table since the manager is on his break. The manager finally showed up after a while, but all he did was looking at those booth and did nothing, i saw that and wait for awhile, he disappeared again, so i stand up and go to the front desk asking for the manager again, this time i wait till he showed up from his break while someone called him and talk to him myself that he should talk to that table to lower their voice down alittle, then finally he did something, he talked to them, whats the matter with this people?? Isn't manager get paid to take care of customer's complain?? He doesn't seem to bother maybe because those people order lots of martinis???
Third time was last weekend, our luck we got the same old waiter that served us when i first came there, HORRIBLE HORRIBLE service, he's lucky my friend was good enough to gave 10% tip this time, i don't think i'll come back there again, the food was ok but if you have to eat there with someone that served you with unpleasant face all the time??? I don't think so, some of my friends also said this place now have bad service, when they made mistakes, or give bad service and we complain, all they do is just give the customer 10% off

I go to Queens College which is near Kyoto and one evening I stopped in to get some sushi and I fell in love with the d?cor and the vibe. At the time I was also looking for a venue to have my 25th birthday dinner celebration. After being in Kyoto for 10 minutes and asking if they cater private parties, I instantly made the decision to have my birthday dinner there.

The catering manager was very helpful and flexible with my all needs. She made great suggestions in terms of the room d?cor and everything turned out fabulous.
On the evening of my event everyone from the staff to hostesses to bartenders were extremely polite and helpful. They made all my guests feel welcomed and comfortable.
All of my guests had a great time and really enjoyed the food (presentation, quality and quantity) and the ambiance.
They applauded me on finding the location and deciding to have it there.
My uncle is planning a 40th birthday celebration and I have already recommended Kyoto for his celebration.
Overall everything at Kyoto was just WONDERFUL!!!

I recently held my best friend's bridal shower here in the private party room and I have to say, this was a great decision. The room was clean, spacious, and was set up exactly as I had requested and envisioned.

The staff, from the owner, to the host/hostesses, to the wait staff were ALL incredibly helpful and friendly. The wait staff was always ready to help with whatever request we had. From inquiring about certain foods, to providing more plates/utensils, to even helping with the media equipment, I felt completely comfortable in their care.

The food was superb and affordable. Our guests all raved about the quantity as well as the quality. In particular, the sizzling beef, basil chicken, thai chicken wings, and spicy tuna rolls were phenomenal!

My best friend and all her guests gave thumbs up to the bridal party for picking this location. Highly recommend!

I live in the neighborhood of this restaurant and I read quite a few of the Cityscape reviews, both good and bad. I couldn?t believe the bad ones for a place that has been there so long, so I thought I would give it a try.

I was very pleased with my experience. The hostess staff was very courteous and friendly. I was seated at one of the bench seats that someone wrote was hard and uncomfortable. I guess if you sit on the hard wood maybe, but the seats had a pad and it was fine.

I got there about 4PM, was seated promptly and was helped with my menu suggestion by one of the hostesses. After I placed my order, she came back to my table and advised me that it was not yet 4PM (3:57 PM to be exact) and I could have my meal using the discounted lunch menu. I thought that was very thoughtful.

My overall experience was the food was very good, the wait staff was excellent and I will be sure to repeat my visit.

About a year ago, we were looking for a place to go in Queens that had the quality and service we had in the city without the hassle of having to travel into the city. We went out on a limb and tried Kyoto and have been going there ever since - at least once a week. The food is excellent and the staff is extremely friendly. We were amazed at the quality of sushi, which is comparable to many places we go to in the city. For those who prefer something cooked, the Thai/Japanese kitchen menu is extensive and delicious. It's great to have a place to go that accommodates the sushi lovers and those who prefer their food well-done. The tatami booths and private party rooms are great for gatherings and private parties.

Whether it's date night or just a casual night out with friends, Kyoto has yet to disappoint. The atmosphere is casual yet romantic and chic. It's a pleasant surprise to have a place like this in Queens. The cocktails, sakes and desserts are definitely worth a try! My recommendation - start with a Lychee Martini, followed by the Sushi Deluxe or Pineapple Fried Rice and end with the Thai fried banana with honey for dessert. Mmmmmmm!

we recently had a nice birthday celebration in the private party room and was pampered by the staff. we were loud and a bit messy but the noise never bothered anyone else so we could be ourselves. there was a ball game on the tv, which some of us could watch while courses were being served. all in all, we had a great time and would definitnely do it again!

Kyoto has become my favorite Japanese and Thai restaurant. Not only do they have delicious food, the restaurant has a hip atmopshere one can only expect to find in Manhattan. The best thing about Kyoto is their special rolls, they are addictive! The fish they use is undeniably fresh. Their salmon teriyaki is superb! All of Kyoto's dishes are reasonably priced for their fine quality. Definitely try their tatami booths for a more authentic Japanese eating experience.

The girls in the front desk are really friendly and nice. The waiters were helpful. The food came out fast. The wooden seats werent as comfortable as I thought it was. The setting of the restaurant is very nice, sets the mood just right. I felt like I paid for the decor at Kyoto, rather than the food. The food was nothing out of the ordinary. Although the drinks seemed interesting and new, the bartender didnt seem too happy making them. Overall, the trip to Kyoto was mediocre.

I've been to Kyoto on numerous occassions. The first time, I just stopped in to try it out. I ended up parking my butt in one of the seats by the bar and enjoyed some great food! I enjoyed some great wine as well as a great conversation with the friendly bartender the entire time I was there. It's rare that you see a bartender have a conversation with every customer who sits by the bar and waits for their takeout.

The 2nd time, I brought a date there for dinner. Upon entering, not 1 but 2 hostesses quickly dropped what they were doing to greet me and my date. The atmosphere was extremely cozy and romantic. Eventhough it was a pretty busy night, the wait staff was very quick and attentive. The drinks and food both came out extremely fast to my surprise as sushi restaurants tend to take a long time to serve especially when busy! The sushi was extremely fresh and the have a great twist on many traditional drinks and plates. My date had a great evening and was extremely happy that I took her here.

I would recommend Kyoto to everyone I know and even people I didn't know!

I used to work near Kyoto so I've been there a few times, and I refuse to go back. The food is pretty good with very fair prices but their service and drinks was TERRIBLE! If you work or live near Kyoto, I'd advice you to order take out instead of dine in. It will save you from a horrible experience!!

The last time I ate in there with some co workers in Oct, we were pretty much ignored the entire time except for the very rude girls in the front who gave us plenty of attitudes when we walked in. Our food came out pretty fast, so fast that it beat the drinks to the table. I ordered a Mojito and my co worker had a Lychee Martini, they were both the worst we've ever had. Their so called bartender doesn't seem to have a clue about making drinks, she pretty much just threw the mint leaf and limes in for display and filled more than half of the glass with club soda. Also like Jennifer A. mentioned, we also saw the bartender drinking behind the bar (maybe if you stop drinking, you can learn to make better drinks). The worst part of the night was when we found out all of those rude girls were under the age of 21.

I don't understand how this place can stay in business with such bad service and allowing their underage girls in the front drink on the job.

So I went to Kyoto with a couple of my friends and I'm a very picky eater and don't usually go for exotic cuisine, but my experience was amazing. The host staff was very friendly and the mixed drinks were excellent; they have many of their own recipes and have put twists on many common drinks such as the mojito, cosmopolitan, and martini using sake, peach, and other flavorings. And the food! Even though I was venturing out of my comfort zone, the food was especially delicious (I had the black noodles and some of the Kyoto Chef's Salad). The chef's salad was an assortment of sushi presented in a martini glass and it was sooooo good! The thai food was also very flavorful and spicy because I love food with a little kick. Anyways, long story short: check this place out!!
I had an amazing experience and I'm sure you will, too!

Since going to Kyoto, I will only eat Philadelphia rolls from there- the smoked salmon is SUPER fresh. I'm not a huge fan of the peanut dressing that comes with the Thai salad but that's more of a personal preference thing- it's a little on the thick & spicy side for me.

We've yet to try the Thai selections or Japanese entrees b/c we always get the sushi there- it's just so good. My friend who told us about Kyoto likes the pineapple fried rice & Pahd Thai.

Excellent Japanese food, the sushi is very fresh and we really like the tempura. We have ordered from them several times and have really enjoyed the food. We have not as yet tried any of the Thai dishes but we are looking forward to doing that, if it is as good as the Japanese food we will be very happy.

My wife and I recently dined here with my business partners and their respective spouses. Made reservations and were seated promptly upon our arrival. We got a step down booth - you take off your shoes, place them in the drawer and then step into your seating area. The only complaint I had was that they didn't have large bottles of water to share, just individual plastic bottles of Poland Spring (go figure). Everything else about the meal was a delight. Food was tasty and the recommendations were spot on. We ordered several dishes to eat "family style" even though that's not what the portions are designed for. Sushi was very good. Not Nobu quality but then again you only pay pennies on the dollar, comparatively! All the appetizers and non-sushi items were decent if not very good. I'd go back there again and my fellow diners have asked me how to get back there again. Not bad considering their tastes are probably even more discriminating than mine.

I walked in with 3 other people yesterday and was accommodated immediately without reservations. The food was excellent and so were the drinks. Desserts were heavenly, especially the strawberry cheescake tempura. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The price was very reasonable and I would recommend this place to everyone who is open to try something new.

My wife and I looked all over for a place to have our daughter's baptism party. Because my wife and I love Japanese food we thought Kyoto Sushi was perfect; Kyoto Suchi was absolutey the perfect resturan for my daughter's babtism party. When my big Italian family who are used to traditional italian food at every party found out my wife and I were going to feed them Japanese, they were all scared, but overall they were pleasntly surpirsed by how good the food tasted (they even raved about it). Durning the party my family was very loud and chaotic, but never once did the managers (Josh, Andy or Brian) say to us quiet down. As the food was being served, my family was out of their seats, but never once did the wait staff complain. At the end ot the night, as I was apolpgizing for my crazy family, the manager said to me it was the first time he delt with such a party crowd, but he loved it. I would definetly recommend Kytoto Suchi to any couple who wants Japanese for their party even if you have a crazy family. Kyoto Suchi is a Very freindly and accomidating place

I used to work in a sushi restaurant and am very picky about sushi. Kyoto's sushi is AMAZING. Their fried banana dessert is delicious, though simple, and their pad thai is good....HOWEVER I don't go to this restaurant as often as I would like because their service is strange. The servers hover and on many occasions I've had them serve countless other guests before they even took my drink order. They never smile and the hostess has lied to me before about their policy regarding the sit down booths on the left when you walk in.

Pros: Sushi and dessert

Cons: Service

The ambiance and decor is fabulous. I brought my girlfriend there for a nice and relaxing meal. And we got that and more. The sushi was excellent and fresh. The service was phenomenal. My girlfriend is pretty particular about how her sushi is made. Her order usually gets botched up, but not at Kyoto. Not only was the service friendly, but it was very accommodating. I will definitely be back the next time I?m in the mood for some sushi and sashimi. I can?t wait to try the rest of the menu.

The food with very good and really it was better than a lot of places I had tried and the price is convenient however the service there need a lot of renovation because at leat you need to have some of the staff to be qualify for the service and give attention to their guests. At all I enjoyed the meal overthere and I think I will go there again.

I abosolutely love this place. The food was great. And yes, I agree with other review about their yummy fried ice cream. I can't get enough of that. I came here on a date recently and it was the cutest place ever. The workers are so sweet. Plus, they're offering a lounge next door. Which is awesome because after dinner you just walk next door and there's a cool place to hang out. Love this place.

Pros: Japanese food, service, ambience

Cons: Parking on the street

In a neighborhood filled with Chinese takeouts, fast foods and pizza delivery franchises, it is refreshing to see a restaurant that serves haute cuisine that too Japanese/Thai. The fact that both are available and tasty and well prepared is wonderful. In fact, one doesnt know whether to eat Thai or Japanese!!!
Their maki is exquisite and they have a pineapple fried rice to die for! WOOHOO!

My wife and I had lunch here not too long ago as we had a field trip in Queens together. We decided to go to Kyoto because of their reputation for good sushi and japaneese cuisine. I have to say we loved it. The portions were perfect and the sushi rivaled some of our best experiences in Manhattan. I would highly recommend this place.

I have eaten here a few times. The food isn't bad. It's reasonably priced in my opinion. However, I recently went to a private party here, and was absolutely appauled when they whipped out plastic cups, paper plates, and disposable flatware to serve 60+ people. If i were the person throwing this party, I would have been totally embarassed, and complained. I would expect a restaurant w/ nice decor such as Kyoto to be alot more classy and serve its patrons on actual PLATES. VERY TACKY using disposables. So if you ever plan to rent out the place for an event, make sure they aren't using paper-goods as if you were in some backyard barbeque or picnic. I have gotten better service at a greasy-spoon diners.

Pros: Beautiful decor, not pretentious, casual dining

Cons: Don't expect too much... soda is served in a can too, they don't pour for you.

Great place for sushi lovers out there. I sat by the sushi bar and watched the chefs make one amazing dish after another. Uni sashimi on a cucumber boat, martini glassed sweet shrimp, and sashimi platters with live fish carved from a carrot! I never found a sushi spot that had such a great display of food garnishing, creativity and design. This place belongs in Manhattan where the high end restaruants are or something. I would bring a group friends because I think they only go all out for larger groups.

I went with my buddy there over the weekend. The sushi is not fresh, service is too Amercianize, the waitress didn't smile at all. I have one of their signature disk (special) #51 something, but nothing special about it. For two people and no drink. My check is over $60, but I'm not even full. I'm not recommend it. The restaurant was not even full and I didn't understand why the service is so bad. Anyway, the sushi and sashimi were not fresh.

I had the pleasure of dining here a while back and I enjoyed it immensely. The ambience was great as well as the sushi. I was greeted by the staff and my server was very attentive. One of the things I enjoyed the most was the fatty tuna. It was excellent. It was also extremely well priced. This place is certainly a gem in Queens. OPEN ONE IN DC.

Best regards.

Pros: Service, food ambience

Cons: You have to drive or take a car service. But it seems that is just the area standard.

I came here with my family on a Sunday afternoon. We wanted to try this before deciding if we wanted to hold a large family gathering there. The ambiance and decor is lovely. The hostess and wait staff is very warm and friendly. I wish I could give the same positive reviews about the food. The sushi was good and fresh. The Thai food was undesirable. I ordered two basic, fairly easy to prepare dishes. The green papaya salad was not authentic, it tasted very vinegary. The chicken massaman curry was also not authentic. This curry dish usually is made with your choice of meat, onions, potatoes, and that is it! Kyoto sushi's version consisted of only two potatoes cubes (which tasted like it was previously frozen), mushrooms, zucchini, peppers, and asparagus. Perhaps the chefs wanted their own spin on this dish however the taste of the curry was not that of massaman curry. This is a cute place to bring a date for cocktails and sushi if you are a local.

Group of 10 for a birthday dinner on a busy Saturday Night, with reservations. The staff was accomodating and helpful. The food was exceptional, the service impressive and the bill at the end of the evening reasonable. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I will be back again.

Guys, if you want to impress your date without going broke, this is the place to go! First off, the ambience is great and very romantic. In case you are not too much into sushi, there is a great variety of dishes that you can enjoy. The Japanese food is great, however, it was the Thai food that I was very pleased by. The Thai food is very tasty, but if you cant handle too much spice , you can request a mild version of your dish and I assure you it will be equally wonderful. On the down side, sitting time is a bit long on the weekends, so a reservasation would be the way to go. So, if you want to get a second date, go to Kyoto!

Walking into this restaurant, I felt that it was a pretty friendly environment and the waiters were attentive. I loved the Japanese feel to the restaurant and recommend sitting in the tatami rooms. The sushi was also wonderful, especially the Godzilla Roll. I would definitely recommend couples to go to this restaurant, it looks like a great place to take a date. But at the same time, I would also bring a group of my friends to pig out on sushi in the tatami room. And I had a pretty easy time finding parking since there are meters in the front and spots around the block. I would recommend people to get there early or make reservations for large groups though, because this restaurant can fill up quickly. Basically, I think everyone should try this place out because its not easy finding a great Japanese place for a good price in Queens, let alone serving Thai cuisine too!

This is an okay Restaurant. I recommend going there once in a blue moon if you like Japanese.
I am curious why it gets such high rating.

I had the Pad Thai in addition to some rolls. I don't recommend Pad Thai here.
Also, the service was very slow. With better management, this place might be better.
Price is okay.

We ordered a lot of food (Thai and Japanese) and it was all delectable. Kyoto offers a diverse menu... lots of sushi rolls to choose from, not to mention the menu actually explains what the rolls consist of! Kyoto is a clean resturant with fresh fish and great portions that are nicely priced. We went on a weeknight and had the place to ourselves! If you are addicted to sushi and live in Queens, you have to visit Kyoto... it's a real treat!!!!
