i luv this place!!!

Pros: food/atmosphere/people/location

Cons: zero

I ordered delivery from this restaurant once before and had enjoyed the food on a previous occasion. BUT, this pass week I got food poisoning from their BBQ Seitan entree, garlic spinach, and/or bamboo rice. I have an ER and doctor bill for the 3 days I was out (no food, no water, just IV hydration in my arm). I'm awaiting the test results from what caused the poisoning exactly. I didn't eat anything that day until dinner from this restaurant. When Neil, the restaurant manager asked me what compensation do I want, I hadn't thought about it and said for my meal to be comped. I would have been fine with an apology, but he got angry by that and challenged me to press charges.

Pros: Fine food on previous occasion

Cons: Caused Food Poisoning this time!

The name GALAXY DINER fits it better. From the counter to the booths, it's more diner than eatery (or drinkery). Our group of a dozen or so were the entire crowd, except for a few stragglers at the bar. The smallish place has one server, who was accommodating, if not Ms. Congeniality. Despite the Galaxy theme, the place was quite down-to-earth. A standard diner menu, with a few extra goodies like vegetarian potstickers. We didn't order main courses, so we can't comment on that. The calamari, we can say, was happily ungreasy. The beer selection was a step above BUD, BUD LITE, COORS. They even had Sapporo in those fancy silver cans. It's a good place to go for a quiet evening with a group. It won't be crowded. --Drink Club is a roving group of NYC drinkers

Pros: quiet, unpretentious

Cons: very unspecial

I choked on the dry chicken on my caesar salad. Choked! The waitress told me I shouldn't have eaten it. The manager gave me 'talk to the hand' attitude. I wouldn't eat there again if you paid me. I'd give it no stars but the program won't let me.

Pros: My friend enjoyed her bloody mary

Cons: Bad food, inept manager does not give a flip, mean waitress

.

first of all it stinks in there, smell of burnt food is everywhere!
food is gross, I had ceasar salad with chicken-simply disgusting!our waitress saw that we are unhappy with the food but did not care to ask. My friend had free-range chicken, it even didn't look as chicken and tasted horrendous!
one bathroom did not work and did not have a door (!) the other one was gross.
I was so unhappy with this place that I decided to register here and write my first review.

I had two good meals here recently. There are some odd things on the menu, so I can't vouch for everything, but I had a caesar salad with shrimp, which I liked, and my date had soft tacos with shrimp, avocado, black beans and rice which she liked as well. My salad had baked cubes of tofu instead of croutons, which was fun and the tacos had cabbage instead of lettuce, which worked pretty well. The shrimp were fresh and nicely grilled. We shared some green tea ice cream which was flavorful. The place is casual and funky with twinkling star lights on the ceiling. Nothing amazing, but a nice place in a neighborhood with a lot of high-end restaurants. I recommend it before going to one of the nearby theaters or maybe Irving Plaza.

This place is gross.. I have been here for both brunch and dinner and both times was sorely disappointed. The menu tries way too hard to be different and unique but they fail miserable when it comes to taste. for brunch i had the "french toast" which was god awful and sat like a brick in my stomach along with a flat mimosa. My guest had the "swedish breakfast" and being a Swede informed me that besides being bland was nothing like her breakfasts back home. For dinner I have tried many of things on the menu and can honestly say all of them are pretty gross. The soy "drumsticks" taste like soggy cardboard on a stick and the yuca fries are always way to starchy to digest.
Overall this place gets no stars but i have to put at least one for citysearch

Decided to stop here before concert at the Fillmore (right next door). The friendly waitress sat us down right next to the lead singer of Gogol Bordello (the band of the night), which was a great perk. Water was given to us immediately, and our waitress was very attentive when it came to ordering. My boyfriend had the Smoked Eel burger, and I had the Thai'd Pizza. Both were extremely tasty and were served in hearty portions. The Eel burger was served with beet fries that tasted like chips, as well as a delicious cucumber/seaweed salad. Overall, the experience was very pleasant, and the atmosphere was great for a place to chill and eat right before a concert.

Pros: Service, Food

Cons: Bathrooms are extremely cramped

I was almost turned off by the "atmosphere" thinking it was a little too kitschy, but if you ignore the space decorations and emphasis on hemp the food is quite good and makes vegetarians and edgy omnivores quite happy.
Would recommend that they keep up with the great food but tone down the "out of this world" atmosphere. The food speaks for itself and makes people happy enough. Would love to go back and try many of the items on the menu, but the tandoori flavored salmon with coconut quinoa was divine.

Pros: Prices, Selection of Food, Food Quality

Cons: Too "Out of this World"

If you're craving buffalo or ostrich, or some sweet potato fries, and happen to be in the Union Square area, Galaxy's your spot. The prices are average, the service is generally good, and if you're lucky there's a boy band playing next door and you get to feel superior watching people freak out.

Diner remade into a hip space theme without being over the top. Drinks available. Healthy, creative menu at very affordable prices; I appreciated lots of vegetarian choices, yet my carnivorous friends loved it too. I'll be back.

I really enjoy eating at Galaxy. Its low-light and has a 'chill' atmosphere. There's even stars on the ceiling for those who notice. The menu is very creative and unique. The food is delicious too, and the prices are pretty good for what you're getting. It's really one of the only places that I regularly go to. I highly recommend it and I take my friends there all the time.

This place is an underrated treasure. If you cant find anything on the menu here to please your palette, you need help. The prices are low, the drinks are creative, the menu is both voluminous and eclectic as heck, and most importantly, she's open pretty much 24 hrs. Whats to complain about? I have met a couple of people that are freaked out about the menu, but they are uncultured and afraid to ever try something new, so I pity them. Sure some of the items on the menu are quite outlandish, but I am sure they have their fans. My favorites are the turkey meatloaf and the beet fries. They also have a great brunch - I love the turkey bacon with the poached eggs and jalepeno aioli. My significant other, a vegan, likes the TBLT. They are sooo creative here!

This is a great freakin' restaurant, with mucho choices for vegetarians & meat-eaters alike. Cool ambiance, great place to chow before or after a show at Irving. "The Beggar's Purse" is the best damn dessert I've had a long time! Woo! (Now if only their drinks weren't so pricey.)

Girls' weekend this weekend and we hit several spots around the city. Went here after a show on Saturday night and ordered 4 different items off the menu. We barely ate any of them. Food was not worth eating (avoid the humus especially) . . . and the service was rather slow.

The food here is great with a very eclectic menu which includes things from black rice to freshly squeezed lemonade. You must also try the calamari!

The bar is well stocked. The service is freindly and prompt.

I've been a regular @ Galaxy for several years and I've never been disappointed by the food. The waitresses are usually quite lovely, and the food is even better! The food seems to be kind of a pan-asian diner mix, and there's quite a selection. These guys have some weird obsession with hemp. Check out the Galaxy burger-- it's cooked with some spices and seasoning, giving it some unique (and excellent) flavor. There's so a nice collection of galaxy special drinks. Give the place a try-- it's just steps from Union Sq...
