I wouldn't put it past the guys at Horseman to doctor up some reviews to boost their rankings...all they do is sit at the front of the store behind their computers all day and barely acknowledge your presence when you're there to BUY

For all the gripers, I feel for you. You got in over your heads. Happens to amateurs all the time in The Big City. Sucks to realize you're not as smart as you thought you were. For people who still love NYC to have eccentric hustlers

In the simplest terms - I would not do business with this company again if they had the perfect antique at the perfect price. I'd rather not be specific. In one review area they rebutted the customer complaints. If I never hear from them

I've never seen so much mid century modern in one spot. Where to start... The stuff is awesome and there's tons of it. It took me hours of hunting for the perfect pieces, mixing and matching all the different possibilities. The guys did a lot to help me out with opinions and even some discounts. They also offered to clean up scratches and tighten up the legs on a server I'm using for my flatscreen and stereo for no extra charge. Extremely cool experience. Anyone looking for really unique stuff to furnish their apartments with, this is THE place I would recommend.

Last Great Secret Find in Brooklyn. 4 stories of endless furniture maze, Incredible inventory of mid-century modern, old fashioned black book of prices, price haggling - but only if you're ready to buy!!! =D Very old school Brooklyn. Loved It and my new desk. Definitely going back.

This felt like the last great secret store in Brooklyn. It's four floors of furniture - antiques and a ton of mid-century modern. They worked out of an old 'black book' of catalogue numbers and prices and were willing to "negotiate" the price, but only if I was "Ready to buy"!. Try that at IKEA. Vintage No Nonsense Brooklyn Style Business . Loved it and love the desk I got. Definitely going back for more. =D

Awful. We have reviewed them on every site we can find so that no one else gets burned the way we did. Sold us a $700 chair that broke within two weeks. They tried to fix it for five weeks - then broke as soon as we got it home. They have another of our supposedly "one of a kind" chairs but won't exchange it unless we give them ours and pay them "half" price- or a total of $1050 for a chair that we paid $700 for in the first place. We have filed a Better Business Bureau complaint after we were told, when we said there was no way we were giving them for more money, to "do whatever we had to." We're not rich, and it really hurts to get so burned on something we scrimped for and really liked the look of. We know there's no way they'll do right by us at this point, so we're just trying to save others the trouble. Don't buy from these people. There are plenty of other reputable, decent dealers on Atlantic that you can deal with instead.

So you don't have an experience like ours, don't buy from these guys. The sales staff is decent enough, but the owners are awful. a $700 vintage chair broke the third time we sat on it, within two weeks, and they have declined to replace it or refund it. They kept it for a month "fixing it" and it cracked again as soon as we sat on it. There's nice stuff in this store, but you are better off at a place that will stand behind what they sell, not a place that will rip you off.

Everything here is really overpriced and disorganized.

Staff is really rude and extremely lazy. You have to write down product numbers then go back downstairs through a maze to get pricing. The sales person I dealt with said he was too busy to give me pricing on more than 3 items. I replied sarcastically that he looked really busy (he was sitting on his ass doing nothing.)

He then spent the next 5 minutes backtracking, babbling incoherently then telling me he could give me pricing on anything. They have to go through a huge book to find pricing on each item (computer anyone?) and you end up discovering that every item is extremely overpriced.

This place is a huge waste of time. I wish they would get organized, find good sales people and price their furniture to move. Not surprisingly, everything in there has a thick layer of dust on it. Overall a disgusting and annoying experience.

four floors of furniture, all chosen with excellent taste -- the taste is what makes this place different from other large antique furniture stores/warehouses. got one desk and one chair here, and i've been back lots of times since -- even when i'm not sure what i'm looking for, they are happy to take me all around the place to guide me to the pieces that fit my description. this will always be my first stop when looking for something special.

Found something I wanted to buy and when I asked for help the sales "man" didnt even get up from his precious seat. He quoted me $500 and would not negotiate at all. Then when I went to go buy, the owner grabbed it out of my hand and "claimed" it was already sold for $600. Very shady business and an obvious lie and rude behavior made me leave and never want to go back. Beware of shady stories of how they stock "under priced" items that are worth much more and that they just do not have the time to research any of their own inventory.....just very sketchy and unprofessional.... Buyers beware!

This place is huge with multiple floors of mid century modern pieces and furniture literally piled on top of each other. It's cramped but that's part of the fun - going through the nooks and crannies of each floor. This weekend, my husband and I came away with amazing chairs at an unbelievable price. The person who helped us answered all our questions, arranged delivery and gave us an upholstery recommendation. The chairs came the next day exactly as scheduled. A smooth transaction on top of a great bargain.

"I am an avid antique hunter/collector. I have purchased many beautiful mid-century modern pieces from this store! The inventory at this place is amazing! Rare and one of a kind designer pieces you cannot find anywhere! unbelievable!!! There used to be a very surly old man that ran the place but I am happy to report that he is gone and in his place is an entirely new staff of knowledgeable, friendly, polite gentleman that are a pleasure to do business with! When you go, be prepared to be overwhelmed by the massive amount of furniture, lighting and art! There are five floors of constantly changing inventory with a hidden gem at every turn! On a recent foray I did observe the furniture is much more organized than in the past and there were brand new fire extinguishers everywhere. I asked if the clearance signs meant they were going out of business and was told, "no, that in fact they were about to celebrate 50 years in business and doing better that ever!" (Kudos!) I can understand how tourists might have been easily offended by the gruff "New York attitude" they may have encountered in the past, I however considered it part of its charm. (New Yorkers' always seem to get a bad rap but it is still the friendliest place on earth!!!)
If you have not been to Horseman recently or had sour experience in the past, I suggest you check out the new Horseman Antiques for yourself! Deals are definitely to be had and made, it"s all about how you approach them! In this place you definitely get what you give!!! Horseman Antiques is a wonderland waiting to be explored and I LOVE wandering for hours through its blast from the past stacks of priceless memories! They are open 7 days a week until 6pm, sharp!"

Despite the huge selection of things, I was extremely disappointed with the sofa and armchair I purchased there. While both were antiques, I was assured they were in very good shape. It wasn't possible to fully examine the bottom of the sofa because there was so much else piled on top of it. After 6 months, the entire bottom of the sofa dropped out. Both were expensive and I paid far too much for falling apart furniture. I'd have to agree with the other reviewer on this place - lousy customer service and a real hard sell on damaged goods.

My husband and I just bought a Danish modern sideboard/credenza here. We put a large deposit on it last week and said we'd pick it up this Saturday after some minor repair work was done. When we were on our way they told us that all the sold furniture had been moved to the basement and they'd have to see if they could dig it out. We were already on our way with a van we borrowed so we decided to see in person.

The owners were not happy with us that we showed up even though this was what we'd arranged with them. They wanted the balance and for us to sign the receipt before we even saw the sideboard. Because it was such an tense situation we mistakenly paid and signed. Once located, they told us they were the only two guys there but they'd quickly load it into our van. I wanted to examine it first but they rushed it into the car. As they were carrying it out I noticed a nice size nick in the front top that hadn't been there when we selected it. It was a considerable amount of money and we spent a long time examining it before deciding to purchase. I knew every imperfection/damage on the piece--this one was new. The owners wouldn't even entertain the though of renegotiating the price or refunding our money. They instantly became thug salesman and wouldn't rationally discuss that they or someone else had damaged the sideboard while moving it three times in an over crowded area. One just kept repeating, "I will not refund your money or give you any money back." It seems like they planned to rush it into our car all along and stood on the grounds of, ?You paid for it and it?s in your car, what?s to negotiate?? After arguing we had no choice but to leave with the sideboard we had paid in full for.

We are shocked at how they conduct business. I usually search for reviews of stores and services online but don?t generally write any?this time I felt obligated to warn others. I strongly suggest you shop elsewhere.

Do NOT purchase furniture at this shop.

My husband and I just bought a mid-century Danish modern sideboard/credenza from Horseman Antiques on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. We put a large deposit on it last week and said we would pick it up this Saturday after they did some minor repair work to it. When we called to say we were on our way they told us that all the sold furniture had been moved to the basement and they'd have to see if they could "dig" it out and that we should call back to check. We were already on our way with a van we borrowed so we decided to see in person.

When we arrived there the owners, Frank and Donald, were uptight with us that we showed up and they didn't have our piece ready for pick up but Donald said he'd see if they could find it. Meanwhile Frank took the balance of the money and asked us to sign the receipt before we even saw the sideboard. Because it was such an uptight situation we mistakenly paid and signed. Once the piece was located they told us they were the only two guys there and they'd quickly load it into our van. I wanted to examine the piece first but they were rushing it into the car. As they were carrying it out I noticed a nice size nick in the front of the wood at the top that hadn't been there when we selected it. The sideboard was a considerable amount of money and my husband and I spent a long time examining it before deciding to purchase. I knew every imperfection/damage on the piece--this one was new. Frank and Donald wouldn't even entertain the though of renegotiating the price or refunding our money. After a heated discussion we had no choice but to leave with the sideboard that we had paid in full for.

We have never encountered such unscrupulous, scam-artist business owners in our lives. I usually search for reviews of stores and services online but don??t generally write any??this time I felt obligated to warn others. I strongly suggest you shop elsewhere.
